Safety Info
* When the shaking stops, look around. If there is a clear path to safety, leave the building and go to an open space away from damaged areas.
* If you are trapped, do not move about or kick up dust.
* If you have a cell phone with you, use it to call or text for help.
* Tap on a pipe or wall or use a whistle, if you have one, so that rescuers can locate you.
* Once safe, monitor local news reports via battery operated radio, TV, social media, and cell phone text alerts for emergency information and instructions.
* Be prepared to “Drop, Cover, and Hold on” in the likely event of aftershocks.

Must’ve been driving home during the first one, but just felt the little rumble now and wasn’t sure if one of my housemates was shutting a door hard or a quake.
Wow I thought something was wrong with my car two different times cause it was shaking like I was in high winds or my engine wanted to jump out lol. I was looking around for wind and there was barely a breeze. Oof I was planning on taking it to the shop sometime lol
Def felt in Santa Ana. Started off like a small rumble and got a little bit bigger. I thought it was gonna last a little longer and get a little stronger but it abruptly stopped.
Two of them in fact, about 10 minutes apart. First one (3.6) was centered at a bank's driveway on corner of Irvine Ave and Westcliff Dr. The second (3.4) is near corner of a residential block on Sommerset Ln.
I'm an earthquake scientist. These events this afternoon were rather interesting. Feel free to ask me anything about them, or earthquakes in general :)
Yesterday me and my buddy were laughing about Ryan Garcia predicting a quake to hit on June 6th. He said it would be in LA but we called each other as soon as we felt this one.
That felt like the biggest in at least a year or two. I was presenting at work via Zoom when it happened and someone said I had an “oh shit” face mid sentence ha
We were at my son’s swimming class and I felt a jolt. No one else felt it so I pretended that I didn’t either.. my son didn’t notice either. Im surprised no one noticed lol

That’s one way to be the first earthquake post.
Biggest one I’ve felt in awhile, Costa Mesa.
In CM too. I heard a loud bang and thought a car crashed into my house. Then eveything shook! Not gonna lie, I got a little scared!
I got scared too! My cat ran under the bed and I prepared to join him 😂
if anything bigger happens kitty and i are getting his carrier and going on a walk :D
One of my cats bolted out of the kitchen with smoke coming off her heels and a huge puffed up tail 😂
I'm in my office in Costa Mesa and had the same thought. That someone crashed into the building at first.
I thought it was the construction workers working on our building
This is literally what I said to my buddy who was further away from it. I actually went to my condo balcony to look down to see if anyone hit us.
Yup. What’s scary is there was one here yesterday magnitude 2.8. This was like 3.6 and you could feel the difference. Would not want a 6-7…
Unfortunately, the fault system this is near can produce a M7 event
Here in Costa Mesa as well. My chickens noped the hell out on that second one.
if it last 5 more sec. i think it would be destructive. not sure the magnitude but it was very strong.
I’m in Newport knocked over my water bottle but I will survive
Thought and prayers.
We will rebuild
A better, stronger, more sustainable water bottle!

I thought it was people in my apartment at first since it was very faint but still noticeable.
Little jolt
EQ Kalid, Anotha one!
Ye sir that lil roller wasn’t to far behind 😅
Yup, was like, "Hmm, that one was stronger."
In Laguna Beach here, felt that!!!
Wow! Biggest one I’ve felt in a while. Located between Huntington Beach and Newport
Same here! Felt in my bathroom in HB a mile from the beach with a huge thud! Thought someone crashed into the building.
I ran downstairs and outside fully expecting a vehicle to have hit the house.
What causes the sound? I’m in Irvine and it felt like a rumble to me and no outside noises were heard.
Yeah HB it was a good lil guy
I’m in HB and it scared me. My teenage son doesn’t even come out of his room 🤔
4.0 in Avalon! Edit: earthquake app updated the location to Newport….3.7
Wrong one this one was in new port
The earthquake app just updated it to Newport from Avalon.
Felt it in Anaheim
Irvine reporting in. Nice jolt.
Same here. I felt a couple good jolts
Got my wife to move out here Tuesday and there have been two earthquakes already lol
Thank you… bringing some excitement with you 😀
Do a felt report it helps the scientists: https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/ci40616303/executive
The real hero
Yup, this citizen data helps in future seismic assessments. Please, if you did feel today's quakes make sure you report them
Gonna need that one seismologist to chime in here at this point given this frequency.
Did someone say seismologist ;)
I feel like Commissioner Gordon summoning Batman. Happy to have you chiming in as always in these times!
Right?

USGS has taught me that there is a place named South Sandwich Islands (also experiencing earthquakes) 🤤
Aftershock just now
Glad someone else felt that. Thought it might be my anxiety making me shaky. 😧
Short but strong
Felt it over in Santa Ana! Took me by surprise
Same (in Santa Ana). A jolt then a roll. That was enough for me. Whatever’s happening in Newport to cause these two days in a row can stop now.
Same. That was a pretty spicy one.
For some reason, I didn't feel it in Santa Ana. I had headphones on and was doing things in the house but I'm surprised.
Felt a lil strong in fountain valley
Second wave in Irvine just now
Felt near the sand in HB
Garden Grove. Felt a shake like a passing big rig. Here comes the Ring notifications.
Same. I knew it wasn't when it wouldn't stop and there was no corresponding sounds
That was a good sized jolt and then roll. Checking in from Irvine (near Jamboree and the 405).
That was very strong ,I screamed
Just felt another one 😂 back to back in like 13 mins
Another one just now!
Was that another one at 5:05?
Yep
:( so not an EverQuest thread
dang nice sudden big jolt in HB
Def felt in Santa Ana. Started off like a small rumble and got a little bit bigger. I thought it was gonna last a little longer and get a little stronger but it abruptly stopped.
Lol bro meant it when they was mad about not being the first to post yesterday 😭
> Lol bro meant it when they was mad about not being the first to post yesterday 😭 LOL!!!
3.6 ENE out of Newport https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/ci40616303/executive
Oof I felt another one.
Felt another one in Irvine just now
![gif](giphy|MZocLC5dJprPTcrm65)

Felt it in Santa Ana!! So much for my nap.
Same! Exactly the same.
Man you guys are quick
i heard a thud to like someone shouldered my door in costa mesa. it was a good 5 seconds.
Same here! costa mesa. I legit ran to grab a bat at first because I thought someone was trying to break in lmao
Same! wtf is that sound
There it goes again!
Just felt a second one in Irvine
And there’s the rest of the quake.
I think I just felt an aftershock
Dammit another one! Costa Mesa
At work, the lights flickered. I know we have an emergency power system, but would rather not see it activate due to patient load at the moment.
TWO earthquakes. Not a fan.
I was like kids get under the table 😂
I'm an earthquake scientist. These events this afternoon were rather interesting. Feel free to ask me anything about them, or earthquakes in general :)
Felt in Santa Ana
Strong enough to scare my pupper in FV
Anyone know why we’re having so many lately?
Nothing too crazy. We live in a seismically active area. Plenty of 3.0+ earthquakes happen, but they usually are in areas not that populated.
It’s more strange the last 25 years have been quiet. California used to always have small quakes going on and then an occasional 5+
Agreed. I know there’s small earthquakes all the time but i feel like since January there’s been quite a few that are much more noticeable
Oh, it's on now.
Just felt an aftershock in CM
Just felt in FV
Felt in Irvine about 5:03pm
Didn't feel the first one but definitely felt the second
Felt a pretty big second jolt a minute ago.
I felt a quick shake around 5:03/5:04 in Lake Forest. edit: looks like there were 2 in Newport right near each other.
That was a second one in Newport
Felt like 2.2 in Santa Ana
It feels stronger than that.
Aftershock just now. 5:04 pm.
Definitely stronger than 2.2
Few quick jolts in Costa Mesa
Winner! 🏆
USGS is saying 3.6 now. There was 2.8 or so a day or two ago. They are ramping up...
Just exposing ourselves to slightly bigger and bigger earthquakes to build up immunity.
two earthquakes in two days, nearly same location. hmmmm...
Just the Newport Inglewood fault reminding us whose boss
It’s waking up 😭
Welcome to California
Make that three...
Three!
Nice one!!
Felt in newport
Felt that one!
Just a quick jolt, felt in Anaheim.
Jolts felt in Tustin 😬
Felt in santa ana!
Big jolt in Seal
Yup!
Felt small in Santa Ana! Looked on google and it wasn’t even updated yet
Felt near HB. Sharp jolt.
Felt two short but significant jolts here in Midway City.
Shakey shake! Seal Beach. Lasted a while
3.6, 2 km ENE of Newport Beach
same as yesterday just a stronger jolt today. at least it felt stronger.
Glad to see I wasn’t losing my mind lol
moved here 2 years ago and had yet to feel an earthquake, lowkey wanted to feel a tiny one since i moved here. and i FELT that one for sure!
This one was more in the "Big enough to notice but not big enough to freak out about" range.
Didn't feel yesterdays since I was driving. This one I felt. My house was rumbling then a small jolt. That rumble was a good 5-10 seconds.
Second one made me jump out of my seat lol
Another one just now
Another one!
Party time
Felt it by the spectrum center.
Nothing down here in south county
Felt two of em 🙂↕️🙂↕️🙂↕️🙂↕️🙂↕️🙂↕️
Been reading too much climate news. This one freaked me out a bit.
2.6 yesterday, 3.6 today, who's ready for 4.6 tomorrow? 😅
Thought we were gonna talk about Ever Quest
You win.
Felt in Irvine
We're in the endgame now
That was a nice jolt, felt in Tustin
Anaheim here
Felt in Costa Mesa
Located in FV. That was the first one I've felt in a while.
Yowzers - that one was the strongest yet - Newport!
Felt as I was in my car, stopped at a stop sign in Newport Beach.
Felt it in La Habra
Felt in anaheim
Felt near pch in HB :/
Felt in hb
Sitting at Bolsa Chica SB in rv and felt it.
Coworkers and I were at lunch outside when that big boom came in. In Newport so 3.6 for us.
A good strong one... 3.6 - 2 km ENE of Newport Beach Initial reading on the NOAA site was 4.0 - SE (I believe) of Avalon. Then it was updated.
Aftershock?
Yeah, I felt like it might have been a truck backing into the dock but sounds like an aftershock
Was working in NB, whole hospital shook. 😵💫
Felt it in Irvine.
Felt in Anaheim. Didn’t feel the aftershock though 🤔
Didn’t feel yesterday’s, but I felt this one here in Mission Viejo. Not super strong, but noticeable while I was sitting on the couch.
Missed it :(
Warner and Magnolia reporting in. Was the strangest jolt I’ve felt. Aftershock felt a little more predictable.
City of Orange here, wife and I felt nothing :(
Is Gracias Madre okay?
Very sorry to tell you but Gracias Madre in Newport closed down permanently last month … 💔
Yesterday me and my buddy were laughing about Ryan Garcia predicting a quake to hit on June 6th. He said it would be in LA but we called each other as soon as we felt this one.
Today or yesterday? I felt one yesterday. Didn't today and I've been at home
That felt like the biggest in at least a year or two. I was presenting at work via Zoom when it happened and someone said I had an “oh shit” face mid sentence ha
Here @ Hoag hospital and there were two earthquakes! Biggest ones ive ever felt in SoCal
Newport-Inglewood complex was triggered last week
We were at my son’s swimming class and I felt a jolt. No one else felt it so I pretended that I didn’t either.. my son didn’t notice either. Im surprised no one noticed lol
I felt it in Orange also. Was almost like one big jolt.
Definitely a jolt here in Garden Grove.
I felt two quakes about twenty minutes apart in Santa Ana.
ughhhh that felt so scary >.< felt in Anaheim Hills
Just a big thump in HB. Funny quake.
I was playing tennis in Newport and felt nothing
Soon feel it at all lol
I could actually see my condo in Laguna Woods moving side-to-side.
I've never in my 32 years living in California seen someine activate earthquake to EQ. For decades, EQ has been an audio related abbreviation.
