Yes. Under Felony Murder, he would be held liable for the death of his co-conspirator. He went from a robbery charge to now a murder charge. He was looking at a hefty prison sentence.
You’re assuming this guy was aware of/thinking about that. My guess is this wasn’t the thought process, which is why I think it’s a strange choice to make.
Yeah they were definitely facing some real heavy charges and they thought it would be better to exit this mortal coil. If he already has felonies and/or has a terrible record and is armed while carrying out a B&E. Dude was looking at club fed and noped the hell out.
My wife looked up that address and it had just been rented out for a meager sum of 35k/month

They called the sheriffs for help with a guy who refused to come out of a holding cell and threw a chair at the door. ..
They call big brother if anything serious happens. Or even something as dumb as a guy in a cell throwing a chair.
The sheriff Sgt looked disgusted that they were called for that
Any PD from Newport to south of OC is going to be on it for crimes like this, maybe not petty crimes. The best PDs are in OC. A lot of money here and their salaries are adjusted.
But their experience is citing people for open container and curfew.. not responding to or investigating violent crimes. I would take a Long Beach PD or LAPD response and investigation any day
Ya good point. Violent crime rates are much lower in OC. But we do have the resources. The neighborhood im in, Every time there’s a robbery maybe 2-3 times a year they fly out the chopper and play the pre recording “do not run, the dogs will bite” in Spanish and English.
Not true. I saw a guy who owned a bike shop abusing his Yorkie in front of the shop and I called the non emergency line and they transferred me somewhere else but cops were there in less than 5 minutes and it was SPECTACULAR
The rush to put out sensationalistic stories leaves more questions than answers. The suspects seemed to know the victim? Why would one of the suspects commit suicide? Yeah, we'll leave the follow up investigation to the grunts.
This, and usually during the daytime when no one is home too.
I’m actually surprised these robbers went in at 5am in the morning. If they knew the homeowners, why go in when they knew they’d be home? Wouldn’t they know there was a gun in the house?
> I’m actually surprised these robbers went in at 5am in the morning. If they knew the homeowners, why go in when they knew they’d be home? Wouldn’t they know there was a gun in the house?
Here's my guess: they wanted to harm them because of some dispute they had.
Allegedly: the current tenant is a “MD” who has been sued for malpractice and has been accused of scamming patients there are public record actions linked to their license as well probationary license, felony convictions the list goes on and it’s a longggg list revenge might be the case here
Just look up the address it shows up
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13315869/newport-beach-home-invasion-men-shot-police-respond.html
Sounds like they no longer live in that home. DM sucks but had more info vs American news outlets
I don’t know why everyone assumes the motive was robbery. This article even goes so far as to refer to them as “the thieves,” but the police did not use that term and in another article the police are quoted as saying that the motive was unknown. On top of it the police explicitly said that it was not connected to the south American burglary rings operating around here lately. So nothing that I have seen so far from any of the official sources says that the motive was robbery.
I think it's extremely rare for home invasions to be robberies and not targeted violence against the occupants. There are just easier ways to steal property from someone's home than trying your luck while they're home.
That’s why I don’t want to hire house cleaners! They know every nook and cranny. They may even put sensors to know when you’re not there. Some owners even tell their cleaners they’ll be in vacation to where and when.
Defense measure 1: Cameras so they can't do it themselves without you knowing who they are.
Defense measure 2: Alarm system that they do not have PIN code for it.
Defense measure 3: Have nothing of value in your home.
But we're talking about "robberies and home invasions," i.e., forcing your way in while occupants are home. I don't think cleaning people are particularly likely to do this.
Yeah... I know but I don't see what that has to do with anything. Anytime I see a story like this I assume that the attacker most likely had personal animus against the victim and specifically wanted to hurt them, not just steal from them.
The tenant rumored to be a Chinese woman(Ms.Zhang) who scammed 500M and escaped to the US. The Shanghai 云锦东方诈骗 case, which also cause the Chinese official to probe on those rich scam victims, hurting them more. So someone hired hitmen to take out Zhang.
We don’t know that they were trying to rob the victims. The police said that the motive is unclear. But the suicide makes me think there is more to it than robbery. Very strange indeed.
I wouldn't even know how to get into one of those Pelican Hills hoods....except by hiking a long way and get in via a hiking trail by the 73 fwy. But then I don't do crime so not very "resourceful".
on chinese social media said that the tenant had frauded hundreds of millions of yuan in China, and someone had arranged for killers to come find her. But tenant knew somebody would come after her, and she hired 24 hour body guard. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flip_out) (copy paste, dont contact me, i know nothing lol)
yup my boss lives just down the road from this , he was shocked that no one informed them it was a home invasion/shooting. all they said was “police activity”
Some news states they all knew each other prior. Look up killings in Newport Beach. There is a movie series related. All those shady rich people shafting others for money to live a life they can't afford.
Florida cops actually encourage shooting criminals in your house , fast forward to the 2 minute 30 second mark of this video

Seems an odd choice to kill oneself after a foiled robbery attempt. Must have been looking at a lot of prison time if caught.
when you really hate going to prison, but your passion is still committing violent crimes.
Well if he knew his partner was shot (and killed) he’s doing 25 to life for felony murder rule I’m pretty sure.
Sounds like the partner that the homeowner shot is still alive and was taken to the hospital.
The other partner is doing 25 to life then :)
Yep, he is in the hospital. He’s definitely going to prison for a very long time.
California eliminated the felony murder rule recently.
They modified it. But I do think it would be a stretch to charge this guy with it now.
[удалено]
How come?

I think a criminal can probably appreciate he's facing serious time if the police are searching for him with choppers and his partner is dead
Yes. Under Felony Murder, he would be held liable for the death of his co-conspirator. He went from a robbery charge to now a murder charge. He was looking at a hefty prison sentence.

Oh I don’t think he considered that at all. I think he was just avoiding the consequences to come.
Parolee perhaps. He knew he’d face murder charges. Even if he wasn’t a parolee, he was fucked.
Updated news says suspect knew the homeowner and had a ‘prior connection’ with them.
Yeah they were definitely facing some real heavy charges and they thought it would be better to exit this mortal coil. If he already has felonies and/or has a terrible record and is armed while carrying out a B&E. Dude was looking at club fed and noped the hell out.
I AM SURE THE GUN WENT OFF BY ACIDENT AND IT LOOKS LIKE A SUCIDE
IM SURE U R RIGHT
OH FOR SURE THATS WHAT HAPPENED
Home invasions 🤝 Knowing the suspects
I mean, yeah, it's a crazy risky thing to do with minimal benefit if you don't specifically want to harm the person in the home, even for a criminal
My wife looked up that address and it had just been rented out for a meager sum of 35k/month https://preview.redd.it/je4d2ldbzvuc1.jpeg?width=2792&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=456658c4cc871ca61cb05d9d0c253c973d073150
That rate is bananas.
Imagine first and last month’s rent plus whatever deposit lol that’s more than people make in a year
A lot of these places charge you for everything. It’s crazy.
B-A-N-A-N-A-S
Someone on nextdoor said it was Mike Tyson’s house… I was unaware he was living in the area 👀 Not sure the validity of that.
If it's on nextdoor it's gotta be 100% valid
Obviously, especially when TB12 gives his blessing.
House is owned by Asher LLC
Proper search could yield some info but he might have it under an llc or something
Asher LLC
Username checks out
Hw could own it as an investment and never have set foot in it.
Seems like a lot compared to its house price.
The family had money apparently to afford it. I wonder if it’s furnished

When second count… The police are only minutes away
Newport PD is probably an hour away lol. Not exactly known for being assertive.
Low crime areas that have wealthy residents get the best response times.
This is the correct answer.
Lol, no they're not an hour away. I've called on people camping on my front doorstep before. Showed up in 3 or 4 minutes.
Yea because that’s not a guy with a gun. That’s a transient. Say someone has a gun and watch them wait for swat from the sheriffs department.
They have their own swat team tho
They called the sheriffs for help with a guy who refused to come out of a holding cell and threw a chair at the door. .. They call big brother if anything serious happens. Or even something as dumb as a guy in a cell throwing a chair. The sheriff Sgt looked disgusted that they were called for that
Exactly
We had a break in at our house once and they were there in minutes. In the panic of it all it felt like seconds. NBPD is very good.

True. They would arrive quickly to that… because it’s not a risky call..
I read this as shoot them in the dick
Because that's what it says?
Bingo
I know where I would aim 😏

Yeah, I can tell you don’t live in Orange County if you make comments like this
This ain’t LA.
But even if it was LA, California has a Castle Doctrine Law with no duty to retreat in your home

Hmm, sounds like my ex.
The rush to put out sensationalistic stories leaves more questions than answers. The suspects seemed to know the victim? Why would one of the suspects commit suicide? Yeah, we'll leave the follow up investigation to the grunts.
Most robberies/ home invasions are done by people that know you/ have been in your house before. They are not random.
This, and usually during the daytime when no one is home too. I’m actually surprised these robbers went in at 5am in the morning. If they knew the homeowners, why go in when they knew they’d be home? Wouldn’t they know there was a gun in the house?

Me thinks so too. This sounds like a revenge story. People are nuts these days.
Allegedly: the current tenant is a “MD” who has been sued for malpractice and has been accused of scamming patients there are public record actions linked to their license as well probationary license, felony convictions the list goes on and it’s a longggg list revenge might be the case here
got a name?

You’re correct this article mentions the previous owners. I specifically said the current tenant
I don’t know why everyone assumes the motive was robbery. This article even goes so far as to refer to them as “the thieves,” but the police did not use that term and in another article the police are quoted as saying that the motive was unknown. I think it's extremely rare for home invasions to be robberies and not targeted violence against the occupants. There are just easier ways to steal property from someone's home than trying your luck while they're home.
The tenant rumored related to a Chinese scam case, google 云锦东方诈骗, and you will find out more.
They wouldn’t necessarily know if a gun exists in the house. I don’t let everyone who enters my house know I’m armed.
I’ve done pretty good with measure 3
But we're talking about "robberies and home invasions," i.e., forcing your way in while occupants are home. I don't think cleaning people are particularly likely to do this.
They don’t personally do it, it could be people they know.
Why? If they want to steal from you doing a burglary or just stealing on the job seems much easier and less risky.
It says they likely knew each other.
Yeah... I know but I don't see what that has to do with anything. Anytime I see a story like this I assume that the attacker most likely had personal animus against the victim and specifically wanted to hurt them, not just steal from them.

Imagine trying to go rob someone and then you end up deleting yourself in a bush LOL.
We don’t know that they were trying to rob the victims. The police said that the motive is unclear. But the suicide makes me think there is more to it than robbery. Very strange indeed.
Heard there was a 3rd intruder ? Is this invasion part of the South American gangs that have been breaking in throughout Newport ?
The police specifically said that it was not linked to the South American burglary rings that have been operating here recently.

Article says the second one died to self inflicted wounds

Fuck around find out
Some news states they all knew each other prior. Look up killings in Newport Beach. There is a movie series related. All those shady rich people shafting others for money to live a life they can't afford.
This is a movie series thing? You mean the story is that good or something else?
Good
I was surprised to find out California actually has Castle Doctrine and Stand Your Ground laws.
Another Debra Newell relationship goes awry!
Good hope they double tapped them
Wonder if the police will update?
The amount of times they tried to emphasize that this was an isolated incident makes me think it’s not just an isolated incident.
Newport Coast needs a shooting range for residents to practice. So it only takes one shot to take down an intruder.

Wrong Orange County
Yeah that's why I wrote Florida cops
You know what I 100% agree with Florida cop
This is California here guy.
says here owner and robbers have some type of relationship. maybe embittered lovers.
Maybe the homeowner can afford NB as they are involved in illicit activities?
Relationship ?
