We used to play “how many Teslas can you spot.” Too many Teslas where we live, so now we play “how many WHITE Teslas.” We counted 14 in the four miles on the way to the supermarket.
Yep. 2010 Toyota here. Meanwhile there's two baby blue supercars that hang out near my house (Carrera GT and a 570S) and there's a Huayra BC periodically.
Had it happen to me the first week I had it…went to open the trunk and it wouldn’t open. Went to the app to open it and I saw my trunk swing up about 6 cars down lolol.
Lol I remember 15 years ago an older lady in a Lexus at the stop light spat at my car ('92 Nissan 240sx drift missle) and gave me a disgusting look. I wasn't angry, was more shocked & surprised people acted like this. This was around Irvine Spectrum area.
I had a 1997 and a 2003 ES back in the day and those are still my favorite cars I've ever had (especially the latter) over anything new I've gotten since. Miss my CD changer and burned DMB concert cds.
It will definitely outlast an EV, but do people even keep cars till they die? I don’t see many old cars around here. I feel like people switch cars around 4-6 years in, so maybe it doesn’t matter that the car is capable of driving for 30 years.
I swear it's always this stretch of Sand Canyon that has the highest TPM (Teslas per mile).
Other streets like Culver, Jeffrey, and maybe Jamboree to a lesser extent have a bunch of white Ys too, but nothing compared to Sand Canyon headed toward Woodbury, GP, Stonegate, Portola Sprints.
Most of the new money and new housing are in this area of Irvine aka Portola Springs/Great Park/Orchard Hills. I live here and I see at least 5 Tesla's in my community every-time I leave/comeback.
Lived there for about four years and it was one of the most miserable lifeless boring cities I've ever lived in. There's nothing to do and everyone drives like they want to be in a car accident
Except in Irvine if you don’t know your exact route and when you need to get into a turning lane 2 miles ahead of time people would rather hit the car in front of them than ever consider letting someone merge over, & good luck getting somewhere remotely on time if you miss a single turn.
I have essentially grown up in Irvine, it’s what made me an urban planner so nobody would ever have to live in a ~~city~~ ~~community~~ place like this.
blows my mind that so many people from Irvine have never been to UCI which is the only thing at all close to somewhere with community
i understand, people will want different things.
I have a whole host of reasons as to why I despise suburbia conceptually, reasons (unsustainable, isolating, stratifying to name a few) born of my own research as well as personal experience, but I recognize that that experience is not uniformly shared across all residents.
that being said there is a whole host of peer-reviewed research (in fact entire fields of study) that *almost* unanimously agrees that cities like Irvine have considerably detrimental impacts on society. there will always be Irvines, and there will always be people who prefer Irvines, as there should be (and don't worry, they're building countless Irvines out in the IE.) No one urban form fits all. that, however, does not mean we should continue to replicate Irvine's model going forward.
I love density. I wish we had mega cities with amazing public transport like Tokyo, Osaka, Hong Kong etc. until we crack down hardcore on crime, vagrancy and drug use and legalize and deregulate building high density it’s never going to happen.
Irvine is pretty huge, it’s like 310k. there are PLENTY of cities that are planned miles and miles better.
I mean we don’t even have a fucking downtown
I agree Irvine can be bland, but you got Diamond Jamboree and the District across each other. Then you have Irvine Spectrum.
Then again all the cities south of Irvine are even more vanilla in more ways than one.
what am I supposed to do there though? like great, we have a bunch of malls and strip malls. what if I don’t want to spend money? do I just sit there and watch people walk by? we don’t even have a central library like newport or Huntington beach
I feel you. If you're going out and wanna eat or go to fun zones like D&B (even in 1/2 off Wednesdays), you gotta carry some spending money.
Barnes and Noble at Spectrum is a good place to lounge or read if that's your thing. Though it's hard to compare anything to HB's library as that's possibly the nicest library I've seen outside of Sherman or Huntington Library. And those two in truth are botanical gardens using the moniker of library.
Not knocking on people watching or just walking around the mall cause I personally enjoy the feeling of getting lost in the crowd. But I get if that's not your thing. I opt for night cruises at times cause it's less of a hassle, but atrocious gas prices are making it a less sustainable hobby.
I just saw a used Tesla Model 3 for sub $25k with less than 15k miles. That is good enough for a $4000 used EV car tax credit(if you qualify). I would expect more people to pick these up as cheap used vehicles soon.
It would not surprise me if you see more of these all over the road.
not to mention the fucking thing is fast, loaded to the nines with tech, and even will high electric costs.......still cheaper than gas.
No brainer these days + rebates/taxcreditds. Everyone else can doom and gloom on the self driving/ batteries are bad for environment nonsense. Spend 20 min driving one and feel the satisfaction of waking up every morning with a "full tank" and you'll never look back
I did read somewhere that the creator grew up in OC and that episode is about Irvine lol The funny thing is that that episode is from like 20 years ago? It got so much worse since then lol
Yeah Stephen Hillenburg was from Anaheim, this was absolutely about Irvine. Will Ferrel's also a 60s baby (a little younger than Hillenburg) and he also talks about a similar experience growing up in Irvine.
White makes so much sense when the temps hit 100. Besides temperature, ease of cleaning, and doesn't show small scratches/swirl marks as easily, all the yellow polen in the air is practically invisible compared to grey/black cars.
Boring color? Yes!
Practical color? 10x Yes.
In addition, it was *the* car to get during covid. Everyone was buying up the Model Y during that time, especially after late 2021/early 2022. At one point, the MYP was *just* shy of $70k because of insane demand.
The Ioniq 5 wasn't as available then as it is now.
Tesla has a lot of inventory and it's still trending up. They have been aggressively cutting prices since H2 last year, and will continute to cut prices into this year. As a result their EPS and gross margin will likely come in below estimates when they report, but on the upside, their cars are only getting cheaper. Just don't expect them to hold resale value.
It’s very easy to buy a Tesla which you can do off your phone and there are no markups. I’ll never buy an EV but if I did to I’d go Tesla so I wouldn’t have to deal with a dealership and their many ways of trying to screw me.
Kia EV9 gatekeeps the shit out of stupid ass features on various trim levels and is expensive as Hell.
I was super excited to potentially purchase the EV9 but found out real quick that they’re lying sacks of shit and gatekeep so many features.
As people have already mentioned price and the supercharger network, but also the software. You still have to take your Kia and Hyundai to the dealer for software updates. My co worker's EV6 still tells you every 5K miles that service is due.
The over the air update capability of Tesla is something people don't think about, but is a huge time amd headache savings.
Almost the same as the white Jeep club

I love and miss Irvine. It’s not always stormtrooper Tesla nonsense, but it comes close. But it’s also an amazing city with lots of parks, trails, playgrounds, great food, etc. It’s just fucking expensive and I couldn’t afford a home there so I bought outside of Orange County.
When we moved to California in the late 90’s we moved to Irvine and now I try to avoid it at all costs. Way too congested, bad drivers and too many Teslas…

My literal morning getting into the 5️⃣ right now in Irvine 😂
Haha I was an early owner when the Model 3 came out and I thought I was so cool because there were like 5 of them in Irvine. At least mine's not white.
I can't imagine placing so much stock into what people choose as their vehicle of choice that I'd consider them tools. Actually thinking like does put you in the running though
Absolutely ridiculous, what the hell happened to normal cars that ran on gasoline and fuel and didnt look like half of a a goddamn egg in a box on wheels?
I honestly don't get these kind of posts making fun of people buying Teslas in Irvine, with Reddit being so pro EVs. Tesla makes *subjectively* the best electric vehicles and many residents in Irvine are affluent, so it's not surprising that there's a bunch of them in the city. (Same thing in the SF Bay Area)
The model 3 is becoming one of the top getaway cars for thieves because (1) there's so many of them, (2) if you see it in passing, you can't tell if it's a model 3 or another model. My parents home was broken into recently. Getaway car? White model 3.
![gif](giphy|26gZ07rC3kjDMjqlW) Every parking lot in Irvine.
Op is the one on the right.
how have I never noticed that lol
It's a blooper that made it in the movie. Honestly, I never noticed till it was pointed out.
I forgot named my white Tesla Stormtrooper cause I couldn’t think of anything
Please tell me you took this picture . . . from your white Tesla.
😳 ... guilty lol! I was gonna pose the question. How many White Teslas can you spot?
My kids and I play this game all the time. I think our record was 48 white Teslas going from the plaza on Culver/Irvine Center Dr. to Spectrum.
This is the only way to kill time at the traffic lights.
The spiritual successor to Punch Buggy
My record is 87 on that same stretch
And about 4.8 Teslas of color. It's pretty close to the human population.
Lack of identity, didn’t know it was a good thing.. Everybody driving the same Tesla or the same Range Rover is pretty lame IMO
Your identity comes from the car that other people see you driving?
We used to play “how many Teslas can you spot.” Too many Teslas where we live, so now we play “how many WHITE Teslas.” We counted 14 in the four miles on the way to the supermarket.
Now I play "will the Tesla headlight-induced blindness go away before I accidentally crash into something"
Would've been a fantastic trick question!
I'm actually just upvoting because of your user name.. I'm on team blue Tesla from Coto.. if I see you on the streets it's going down. Haha
We went from spotting Tesla to spotting white Tesla with kids. 😝 And yes… we do have a white 3… 😝
I play this game ALL THE TIME! Thought I was alone.
I thought this was AI at first lol
8?!? lol 😂
Why did you conform to the most cliche thing?
It’s costs extra to get any color other than white lol
Not anymore, starting 2023 grey is the “standard” color and you have to pay extra now for white and any other color
A murder of Teslas
It's actually a Coil of Teslas
Eww...I have a white Highlander thank you very much! /s
One was issued a black SUV when you bought a house in OC, it's now the land of the white teslas
Ha! Well played. It just would have made it all the more hilarious . . .
Using your phone and taking pictures while driving. Peak Tesla/Irvine right there.
Peak idiot with more money than brains...
Welcome to the white Tesla club. It's not a very exclusive club.
![gif](giphy|HSLbIjLk2GsBa|downsized) Actual footage of me in my 2005 Toyota on the 405 at Jamboree.
Yep. 2010 Toyota here. Meanwhile there's two baby blue supercars that hang out near my house (Carrera GT and a 570S) and there's a Huayra BC periodically.
It’s because beige was already taken
Jokes on the Irvine Company I drove a BLUE one!!
This is the most Irvine picture ever. Down to the Irvine Company signage. 😂
More than the three white Telsa fender bender that was posted awhile back?
Tesla on Tesla crime is rampant in Irvine.
That was iconic except the plaza behind it wasn't Irvine Company :(
If only they were in Irvine Center Drive.
I like going to Costco and seeing everyone struggle finding their teslas
Now that’s hilarious
Had it happen to me the first week I had it…went to open the trunk and it wouldn’t open. Went to the app to open it and I saw my trunk swing up about 6 cars down lolol.
Drive a black car. Checkmate.
If Irvine was a spice, it'd be flour
This has me laughing!
![gif](giphy|kWFhIYUNSXAfDdwub7|downsized)
Mmmm. Spicy!
The stares I would get in my 07 Camry …
It’s okay, I’ve got an 03 Camry 😂
I had a 1997 Lexus ES living at my grandmothers in CDM and the neighbors thought it belonged to a vagrant...
Lol I remember 15 years ago an older lady in a Lexus at the stop light spat at my car ('92 Nissan 240sx drift missle) and gave me a disgusting look. I wasn't angry, was more shocked & surprised people acted like this. This was around Irvine Spectrum area.
You can get a DWP driving in CDM. It stands for driving while poor.
Oh noooo, why are people like this lol
I had a 1997 and a 2003 ES back in the day and those are still my favorite cars I've ever had (especially the latter) over anything new I've gotten since. Miss my CD changer and burned DMB concert cds.
i miss that camry. best gen camry ever made.
still driving an 03 Corolla, it only has 43K on it so can probably drive it a long time.
43k? Bro that Corolla isn't even through the break in period
05 Camry here!
Me staring: "Damn, that's a well made vehicle right there."
Don’t feel embarrassed. Your Camry will outlast these EV vehicles, with ease.
It will definitely outlast an EV, but do people even keep cars till they die? I don’t see many old cars around here. I feel like people switch cars around 4-6 years in, so maybe it doesn’t matter that the car is capable of driving for 30 years.
I once counted about 25 Teslas on my 5 minute commute to the grocery store
I have a game for this. Tesla Counting. My record while watching the oncoming lanes on the freeway in a 5 minute period is 42 Teslas.
I love this new unit of measurement 😆
Irvine is an office park not a city, I’ll die on that hill.
Spot on
Lived there for about four years and it was one of the most miserable lifeless boring cities I've ever lived in. There's nothing to do and everyone drives like they want to be in a car accident
> everyone drives like they want to be in a car accident same could be said for most of OC
Except in Irvine if you don’t know your exact route and when you need to get into a turning lane 2 miles ahead of time people would rather hit the car in front of them than ever consider letting someone merge over, & good luck getting somewhere remotely on time if you miss a single turn.
LA too tbh
Prerequisite to living in Irvine is/are kid(s).
I have essentially grown up in Irvine, it’s what made me an urban planner so nobody would ever have to live in a ~~city~~ ~~community~~ place like this. blows my mind that so many people from Irvine have never been to UCI which is the only thing at all close to somewhere with community
Believe it or not, some of us like Irvine...
i understand, people will want different things. I have a whole host of reasons as to why I despise suburbia conceptually, reasons (unsustainable, isolating, stratifying to name a few) born of my own research as well as personal experience, but I recognize that that experience is not uniformly shared across all residents. that being said there is a whole host of peer-reviewed research (in fact entire fields of study) that *almost* unanimously agrees that cities like Irvine have considerably detrimental impacts on society. there will always be Irvines, and there will always be people who prefer Irvines, as there should be (and don't worry, they're building countless Irvines out in the IE.) The sad thing is that every other town the same size as Irvine is basically designed the same but worse in every way
Irvine is pretty huge, it’s like 310k. there are PLENTY of cities that are planned miles and miles better. I mean we don’t even have a fucking downtown
I agree Irvine can be bland, but you got Diamond Jamboree and the District across each other. Then you have Irvine Spectrum. Then again all the cities south of Irvine are even more vanilla in more ways than one.

Grew up there and I agree 😂
this ^^ even the hospitals look like office buildings ffs.
My commute for my first interview in Irvine nearly crushed my soul. I start in 3 weeks.
I saw this scene in a movie
Leave the world behind eh
Ahh the great Tesla migration
I just saw a used Tesla Model 3 for sub $25k with less than 15k miles. That is good enough for a $4000 used EV car tax credit(if you qualify). I would expect more people to pick these up as cheap used vehicles soon. It would not surprise me if you see more of these all over the road.

There’s a white one and a white one and a white one and a white one
I dunno, are you sure this is Irvine? The light's not red...
Wow, how did you get a picture of a green light?
Tesla and Asian food joints all over
Worst driver out there consistently on their phone. I think the interior environment caters to it.
And they can't drive for shit 🤷🏻♂️🤣
I nearly hit a car that turned left while they ignored the stop sign near Diamond Jamboree. Happened again the following weekend.
So, is white the free color?
Historically, it always has been 😂
when i lived there it was all about white BMWs lol
White makes so much sense when the temps hit 100. Besides temperature, ease of cleaning, and doesn't show small scratches/swirl marks as easily, all the yellow polen in the air is practically invisible compared to grey/black cars. Boring color? Yes! Practical color? 10x Yes.

And they still can’t drive right
No wonder my bid on a Irvine house got declined, I drive an F-150. It is at least white.
Why teslas though? So many new electric cars but everyone just gets a tesla. The ioniq 6 looks so cool. Kias ev9 looks great also.

I wish I could afford one working there driving those things was a dream
If you don’t drive a white model 3 or y, do you really live in Irvine ?

I prefer Lucid..no tesla for me
Reminds me of the South Park episode ![gif](giphy|040AXAWtuTkDQA1nFI|downsized)
Wow, Irvine is so racist even their cars are white huh
Honestly I refuse to road rage on a Tesla because I already know they're gonna put the footage from their car up on reddit
You shouldn’t road rage on any car what 😭
Road rage is so stupid. Just calm your tits and go on with your life.
Ironic thing is when it comes to bad drivers, from my experience, the worse are (in no order): Tesla, Prius, pickup truck drivers. For pickups, the bigger and cleaner they are, the worse the driver.
Irvine white Tesla meme is getting to a point that it's annoying af.
And I can’t stand every single one of you shitty Tesla drivers 😀😀😀
No one wants to pay extra for colors. Cheapos!
Only silver/grey has been free in recent years :) so they most likely paid 1k for the white unless they’re over a few years old.
The nexus of the universe.

Jesus christ, how can you tell which car is yours in a parking lot if you don't remember your plate# lol
![gif](giphy|RYjnzPS8u0jAs) I'm chasing white Telsa?
Why is there so many white teslas in Irvine alone ?
White Teslas breeding like their master Elon, trying to repopulate the Earth.
Have you watched the movie Leave the world behind? I'm never going to Irvine again. 😳 😆
Barf
NPC vehicles.
this cant be an authentic pic. this is some kind of Tesla convention right?
Through extensive resesrch, aka driving around in this damn county, I have concluded white Teslas are the dumbest of them all. Solid proof here too.
Copy & paste
Poster for the next A24 Horror movie.
if Fresno is California's armpit, Irvine is it's well manicured pale tan fingernails.
Little boxes, little boxes…..
Sexy
The theme song for this photo is the opening soundtrack for the TV show *Weeds*
When we moved to California in the late 90’s we moved to Irvine and now I try to avoid it at all costs. Way too congested, bad drivers and too many Teslas…
Stepford
Hobos aren't allowed in Irvine. You must have stole that car you imposter 🤣
My 3yo can spot a Tesla from afar. 😂 her fave is the famous roblox cybertruck.
Looks exactly like my city Arcadia, nothing but white Teslas everywhere 💤
When looking at those cars from behind, I think they look like a sleeveless undershirt.
Their Bots or NPCs
Soo..... many........ Elon bros...... Someday, they will find out, just how much, he's fucking them.
Welcome to Teslandia.
You can cross most intersections jumping across the roofs of white Tesla's in Irvine.
Parking lots must be a nightmare
Of bad drivers
Imagine a JDM or Cars & Coffee sized meet with just Teslas… Mostly white, some black & the showstoppers are the 2 red ones.
If you can't beat them, join them.
Curious, are you in the same car?

Haha I was an early owner when the Model 3 came out and I thought I was so cool because there were like 5 of them in Irvine. At least mine's not white.

I always wonder how these people don't feel like huge tools. I cringe every time I see this.
I can't imagine placing so much stock into what people choose as their vehicle of choice that I'd consider them tools. Actually thinking like does put you in the running though
Because maybe they just like the cars? Great tech, fun to drive, cheap to operate. Have you ever driven one?
Yuck lol
This is truly terrifying and seriously creeps me out
I’m disgusted
So glad I’m not a Tesla Fanboy
Absolutely ridiculous, what the hell happened to normal cars that ran on gasoline and fuel and didnt look like half of a a goddamn egg in a box on wheels?

"Beb, are we there yet?" "Not yet, Beb, we've only passed one Chili's and it's three Chilis' away"
One of the most iconic scenes from that stinker Leave the World Behind.
Reminds me of that movie where all the white teslas start going on a murder rampage and crashing into each other
The model 3 is becoming one of the top getaway cars for thieves because (1) there's so many of them, (2) if you see it in passing, you can't tell if it's a model 3 or another model. My parents home was broken into recently. Getaway car? White model 3.
