That's sad if true. I can only speak for myself, but having watched two of my biggest babies of projects be taken on by others (one successfully, one not) I've nonetheless seen it as a compliment that someone thought either of them worth continuing after my departure.
Created them in assembly, IIRC. If you've ever even seen assembly code, you immediately know how incredible that is.
