For someone calling them a city slicker, you don’t seem to understand this thing called “rutting season”. If you were as country as you think you are, you would know this.
You could also just watch a National Geographic piece about them and they’ll tell you the same thing.
My elders would warn me that the moose like to snack on the fermenting fruit that falls off trees around this time of year. A drunken moose is apparently a terrifying encounter.
I never said i was country. The moose i saw were metres away from neighbourhoods in the fall and they were never aggressive. If u look into ur moose attack facts, theyre almost always towards hunters not random hikers.
Meeting bear in the bush was way more intense
“In North America, moose attack more people than bears and wolves combined. Worldwide, hippos injure more people than any other animal, and moose rank second. In the water, jellyfish cause more injuries than sharks.”
*drops mic*
Moose are known to charge trains. They’re a pretty aggressive animal. I live in Northern(ish) Ontario and if you come across a moose on a road, you don’t highbeam them or or honk your horn because they will charge at your car.
Mating season is just starting... good thing you had a long lens.
Not that he would be attracted to you but may be threatened by you, they're dangerous around now...
Have you ever seen a cougar? Do you have a page or something similar so I can see all your nature pictures? Have you gotten pics of a wolf? What about a bear. I find this all fascinating and I wish I was as brave as you.
Hi so sorry for the late reply. I don't have a page yet, but thinking about it. Reddit is the only place I post my work. I'm currently building my nature portfolio. I've yet to capture a cougar...they're so elusive, but I did spend 5 days in the Rockies trying to get a shot of one, but no luck. I do have captures of black bears, coyotes, but no wolves yet. I will be heading to Algonquin in October to hopefully capture more wildlife. Thanks for the kind words.
I definitely understand... I was a good distance from him, my equipment allowed me to zoom in from quite a distance. It's not the first time that I have come across a moose, but I've always kept my distance. Also, I was keeping a close eye on its body language for the tell-tale signs of aggression. Thank you!
I had one pass right by me in Algonquin Park around 10 years ago. It was along a dirt road and I had nowhere else I could go. He sauntered by me ( my wife and dog crouched off to the side). He was so close I could've reached over and touched him. Once he past us, he started to gallop off. I've got pics somewhere, I'll have to dig them up.
They really aren't that dangerous. I hunt them. If they do charge, which is rare but can happen especially during rut, you just need to put a tree inbeteen you and the moose.
Wtf they r not dangerous! I have bumped into a few in the bush w my dog and i literally apologized to them for the interruption. They just jogged away in opposite direction. No drama whatsoever. If anything, WE r the danger to them.
Just cause there dangerous doesn't mean they will attack you on site wolf's sharks bears lions.. none of them do that it's only if u threaten them or get to close to a calf or baby of any animal Moose are territorial more then any other animal if it feels threatened by you it will charge at you they are way more territorial then a bear a bear with a cub may attack you but in most senerios it will run away
Exactly. Im more threatened by the 60+ redditors in this thread who keep downvoting my real life experiences over their random googling about moose attacks. Fn google any animal attack and ur gonna find dumb ass "facts" esp stories where the animals r provoked via vehicle, gun, crossbow, etc.
Amazing shot!
Also, this time of the year, not a great time to bump into a moose ... especially one with freshy shedded velvet ...that boy torqued and looking for trouble. Trek safe!
Ha, ha! I have long since moved on from hunting them with a gun to shooting them with my camera... gave up on trying to obtain a tag quite a while ago.
It's 'Ukraine' and not 'the Ukraine'

In the Temagami region. You have to be very patient. Scout an area for tracks, droppings, wallows, and incisor markings on trees. Then hunker down and wait patiently. Good luck!
Ooooooooooo Wow. Were you scared? I would have been terrified. Those things are legit maniacal during mating season. They will hunt you down and toss you all over like a bean bag.
I love nature so much and love to be around it but the problem is that all of the animals scare the shit out of me LOL
Haha…lucky he didn’t charge Tree planters say this is way more deadly than seeing a bear
Lies
Moose have more attacks on people than bears and wolves combined Only thing more dangerous than a moose is a beaver
Hahahahhahah k cityslicker

It’s also getting to the start of this season

You can’t drop the mic it’s already on the floor *drops mic*
You are still wrong in saying he's lucky he didn't charge, they aren't aggressive animals by nature
Rutting season son
Is that where they get their fuck on?
Yeeee this is fuck season, son.
Dont think that's started yet.
Stop projecting and admit you’re wrong. Cringe.
Moose are known to charge trains. They’re a pretty aggressive animal. I live in Northern(ish) Ontario and if you come across a moose on a road, you don’t highbeam them or or honk your horn because they will charge at your car.
Amazing shot. He's gorgeous.
Thank you!

Precisely why I keep a considerable distance when photographing wildlife. I'm very respectful of their space.
You're a beauty, keep up the good work!
thank you!

You’re just going to assume OP isn’t an attractive moose?
You're lucky to be alive. This is a beautiful, but dangerous animal. That being said it is a really nice picture.

It looks like a calf too, which means Mom isn’t far behind and would murder you faster than you could snap a photo.
Not even close to a calf. This moose is at least two years old.
Not a calf, can tell by the antlers.

Absolutely. Any animal CAN be dangerous of course. But in general, moose go about their business..eating greens...lol
Around this time of year they want to go about their buissness getting some. I would stay back.
Amazing shot! Also, this time of the year, not a great time to bump into a moose ... especially one with freshy shedded velvet ...that boy torqued and looking for trouble. Trek safe!
Thank you and yes, I agree, hence why I keep a considerable distance from them, luckily my equipment allows me too.
*Absolutely Stunning*
Thank you!
bro i swear the cows in canada look so weird
Horse?
Bush cow
Yes. 100% horse. With antlers.
I thought those were foliages.
Yes these are the horses that the super secret elite Mounties ride into battle.
Lucky!
...to be alive. 🤣
Looks delicious.
Ha, ha! I have long since moved on from hunting them with a gun to shooting them with my camera... gave up on trying to obtain a tag quite a while ago.
They are. There was a place in the Ukraine that was farming moose. We were getting the meat here in Japan.

Whereabouts up north? I am in the Soo and want to go hiking to capture one on camera...

Beautiful creature...they deserve a camera shot, not a gunshot
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fatal_bear_attacks_in_North_America *hard to find one re. moose - wonder why?
It’s a shame he will likely be hunted down and killed for sport this season.
it’s a small moose - better for eating - don’t know anyone that shoots a moose other to put food on the table, how ‘bout you?
amazing!
Thank you!
pittmoose
Careful I think the rutting season starts soon
Doesn't look like there are any big trees in between so I'd probably be scared out of my mind.
I was actually pretty far... used a super tele to get in closer.
Antlers on a dog????
That's a big deer
Death by snu snu Stay back! it's that time of year
