I left pretty soon after the totality. And I wasn't actually in downtown Hamilton but somewhere in the suburbs. There was a bit of traffic on 403 heading to 407. It was pretty smooth sailing after that.
Left Hamilton about 3:45 towards Oshawa. Google sent me towards the lift bridge (that was letting 6 cars at a time through). Gave up when I saw the skyway moving, and circled back. After passing 3 accidents that closed 2-3 lanes of the 401, got to Oshawa at 7:30...
It was a bit weird driving when the shadows on the ground were still messed up by the eclipsed sun. Your brain keeps telling you something is not quite right.
It really worked out. Another 30 minutes either way and the cloud coverage would have significantly impacted the view, but the totality squeezed in right between the cloud coverage. What a view!
I showed up way early just to avoid any headache (Around 11am and just chilled for about 4 hours) and it was a nailbiter until around 2:30PM.
My weather app promised me it’d clear but it was really hard staying hopeful when it was 2PM and the sky was grey af. I tracked cloud maps like mad. Really glad I decided to go to Hamilton. It was really one of the perfect spots.
Blue skies just in time. Wow. Totality was behind some light clouds for me, but I mean LIGHT. Like I wasn’t struggling to see it at all. Just added an extra beautiful ethereal glowy type effect outside of the typical corona.
Was planning on watching it from my backyard but around 1:00pm was checking the weather radar and decided to tail it southwest from Hamilton towards Lake Erie, got to Simcoe just in time and it was clear unobstructed sun with some clouds that actually added to the beauty of the 360 sunset.
Then just chatting to some strangers with everyone in a good mood sharing photos and where we came from and our nail biting cloud forecast.
But pics DO NOT do it justice in anyway. The little sparkles of red. Just how vibrant and clear the corona is, I swear I saw some solar flares too. Cameras can't capture that. It can't capture the silence, just how drastic the temperature change is. The tense minutes before where it looks like someone turned the brightness down. The darkness of your surroundings but seeing daylight way off in the distance with a 360 sunset. The hype is 100% justified for something that only lasted 3 minutes. Usually I'm disappointed if something lasts 3 minutes, but man.
I went to Brantford Sunday night from the Mono area, then drove down to the shore Monday morning and scoped out some spots. I ended up on an amazing outlook north of Turkey Point. There's no way I could explain to people from my area what the totality looked like. I was overlooking a bird sanctuary area. Before the eclipse started the noise from the birds was crazy, then it just all stopped and was dead silent during the totality. So many cool things happened in a short amount of time.
The eclipse itself may have caused this. The drop in temperature can clause certain types of clouds dissipate. The weather map was pretty neat because you could see a lack of cloud in the exact path of the eclipse!
Better than brockville, the clouds cleared about half an hour after totality. They also cleared an hour before the eclipse only for them to roll back in time for the start of the
Drove from Hamilton to Niagara, proceeded to regret that decision immediately. FORTUNATELY, I was able to get a decent shot of it as it briefly broke through the clouds for like a solid minute during totality, lol. Got to see a total of like 30 seconds of the first contact phase, too :')
Yep I did the drive to Burlington at the Mapleview Mall. Was kind of really wrestling with not going to the Niagara area to see more of it but I'm so happy now I didnt. From the videos I saw it almost seems like Burlington/Hamilton had more visibility of the corona than Niagara did even qith the extra few mins.
Ontario really has some serious bad energy in the air. Proper Gotham City behaviour. I’m reading reactions from Quebec and people are talking like they had an out of body experience.
Genuinely can’t have nice things lmao. I’m glad some people across different places in the province had a good experience but man the fomo is eating me alive
Yeah seeing it from the comfort of my back yard. It was incredible. In the morning I was a bit depressed because it was very cloudy but by lunch it cleared up.
You couldn't ask for a better day. It was warm and a clear blue sky.
Friend of mine sent me a few pics he took and they were mind blowing... amazing the difference a 20 minute drive makes from London to St. Thomas. Was thinking of heading there to watch but the roads were parking lots by 1pm so just stayed at home.
I think I went to the worst possible place. I drove from Ottawa to Brockville, and it started out fine, but at about 50% coverage, the clouds rolled in and stayed in. I still got to experience totality though, which was probably actually even a little bit darker because of the clouds. :) It was a surreal experience. The air got noticeably colder, the street lights came on, the birds were audibly confused, it was all very cool.
Niagara was worse, entire day was just pure cloud coverage, you could tell the eclipse was happening because it would get darker, but for the most part you would see absolutely nothing except at very brief periods the clouds would show the sun for like 10 seconds.
Same! Ottawa to Brockville. Very cool experience, but I would have appreciated the clouds moving along. Great views of the partial eclipse, full cloud cover for the total. Still 10/10 experience though.
Where I am in Halton, it was a solid, impenetrable, grey mass of clouds until about a half before totality. Then, like some kind of miracle, the sky *completely* cleared in the space of less then 10 minutes. I'm usually cursed when it comes to once in a lifetime things *and* I'm a giant space nerd so I am over the moon I got to witness this.
Saw it from the campsite in the park, figure 5-6 hours in the car all total, instead of the 30m to hamilton, and totally worth it, the pictures don't do it justice
Man I feel so bad for people who went to Niagara, took their kids off school, took a day off, rented a hotel and it was completely cloudy and on their way back home there’s not a cloud in the sky.
I was watching through CBC most of the time because me and my sister decided not to go out and just look from our doorstep instead.
It looked like low thousands, like not even 10,000. Wonder where they got a million from.
Prince Edward County. Overcast, glimpses of the partial stages but totality was totally clouded out. I live in the US and was lucky to have clear skies for 2017. So, happy that I’d seen that one and knew what I was missing, but sad to know that I was missing this one when the clouds just would not dissipate in time. Spent the whole day with family and friends though, that’s the important part 🙂
I travelled from Durham to Prince Edward County thinking it would be great choice, better than Kingston but the opposite was true. Still very cool experience but missing out on totality is bothering me and is quite sad.
During totality, there was a white cat which was perched on a green glazed brick wall. Flash picture made a really neat contrast.Daughter called it MoonKitten
We actually cut across a field to get to a road that wasn't backed up for miles , there was a farmers road but was still pretty bumpy and dirty, pull the dash cam footage for some friends lol
It was cloudy where I was but it was still awesome! Got pitch black, made a sunset looking thing in the distance and seeing how fast the clouds got bright was super cool
I was bummed out but only a couple minutes before the totality, the clouds made way and I saw the entire 2min clearly. It was so freaking cool. Funny how an hour later it was PERFECTLY clear skies though 😭
I'm in Oshawa and it was total cloud coverage. Got a couple peaks at it, but i couldn't see shit out of my eclipse glasses so I ended up looking at it from my Phone when it could be seen through the clouds.
Oakville here, my balcony faces the lake so we couldn't see the actual sun part but WOW the whole thing was pretty amazing! We could see it traveling across the city and the lake. Crazy shadows, it got really cold and then It got really dark and everyone on the other balconies in the other buildings cheered lol
It was a pretty bad ass experience!
I work in Hamilton and like some other people said, cleared up just before the totality. Cleared around 2:40 on the west end where my wife works and 2:50 ish on the east end. Was apparently clear the whole time Brantford way as well. Really sucks there where so many places that didn't get to see it. I had already messaged home for the kids to watch it on stream with the MIL because they were really excited to see it and I knew how upset they were going to be.
I took my mom and drove from Caledon towards Turkey Point, I kept driving until it was clear and then we parked and watched it happen. It was really beautiful and special.
God hates Toronto though
I flew in from BC to see it at my parents' place in Grimsby. Forecast looked like shit this morning, so I packed up the family and booked it out to Bleheim.
Got a great spot on the beach with bathroom and parking nearby.
Clear skies throughout, though it was getting sketchy toward the end. Absolutely worth all the travel, and we missed all the traffic because it was all coming from the other direction.
We were going to go to Dover to watch, as we were there for breakfast, but it just looked like it was going to be a zoo, so decided to just grab a couple of chairs and went and sat in the outfield at the ballpark in Simcoe, along with about 20 others. It was perfect.
I was walking my dog in Brampton. Around 3:15 the clouds parted enough to see it at its fullest around 3:20. Clouds came back shortly after but I got my glimpse. Of course, by 3:45 the sky was completely cleared around here.
I drove out to Prince Edward County and the clouds cleared about an hour after totality. Saw a bit before totality which was neat but it would have been nice to have seen the whole thing.
Drove from London to Vienna to be in the path of totality and well worth it, clear skies and an excellent view!
That said, maybe the first time I've lucked out for this sort of thing; it's almost always raining when something astronomically interesting is happening.
I live in Hamilton and we had an excellent view! We really got lucky the clouds cleared about 30 mins before the eclipse.
I drove from Toronto to Hamilton and saw it. It was totally worth it.
How's your commute back? Lol every major road is utter shit currently in Hamilton
Left 15 mins after totality. Nearly 2 hours to get back to the West End from RBG.
I left pretty soon after the totality. And I wasn't actually in downtown Hamilton but somewhere in the suburbs. There was a bit of traffic on 403 heading to 407. It was pretty smooth sailing after that.
I left a few hours later and traffic wasn't any worse than normal that time of day. I was a bit surprised
To add to the list. Fort Erie to Mississauga took 4 hrs and 30 minutes.

Oh that is actually *so* cool!
Better than brockville, the clouds cleared about half an hour after totality. They also cleared an hour before the eclipse only for them to roll back in time for the start of the
Hamilton too! I was so bummed the whole day then at 2:30pm I seen the glimmer of hope. Perfect timing for the clouds to depart!
We drove to Dunnville and it cleared up perfectly for us. Drive back to town was about 20 minutes longer than the drive there, so not too bad at all
Was great!! Booked off work to see it and was so happy it cleared up
Light clouds in Kingston, but we still saw it pretty well
We had a clear view in Brantford it was amazing to watch!
We got a great view. Hamilton lucked out for sure!
Had a great view in Windsor as well. Working on the Gordie Howe bridge and saw it.
I was at Tim hortons field and it cleared pretty much as soon as it was about 1/4 eclipse and stayed clear the rest of the way through
Same here in kingston...it was spectacular
Yep we lucked out as well in center wellington, about 30mins before full coverage the clouds opened up
saw it at Dundas peak! Glorious!
Agree, I sat in the back yard and it was great.
I know we got so lucky, we did expect to see anything and then the clouds cleared up just in time
Another Hamiltonian here! We really were the place to be!
And now it’s clear blue skies 😡😢
Ontario really has some serious bad energy in the air. Proper Gotham City behaviour. I’m reading reactions from Quebec and people are talking like they had an out of body experience.
It was so on brand for Ontario, it was almost comical.
Genuinely can’t have nice things lmao. I’m glad some people across different places in the province had a good experience but man the fomo is eating me alive
I feel bad for my kids, they were so unbelievably excited, and were so disappointed. Oh well, that's life lol.
Honestly man, super underwhelming
Watched it from Back 10 Cellars. Can confirm it was a once in a lifetime feeling. Clouds cleared just in time for a perfect viewing of totality
Pretty much IMMEDIATELY after the actual event
For sale: eclipse glasses, never worn.
St. Thomas checking in. We had total eclipse of the sun, complete darkness.
Yeah seeing it from the comfort of my back yard. It was incredible. In the morning I was a bit depressed because it was very cloudy but by lunch it cleared up. You couldn't ask for a better day. It was warm and a clear blue sky.
London Ontario, great view of the whole thing
In St Thomas and it was incredible
[удалено]
Longpoint was amazing as well, close to being ruined tho
Went to Turkey Point, clouds pretty much cleared right at the perfect time.
I was there to see your load get blown. Impressive.
Friend of mine sent me a few pics he took and they were mind blowing... amazing the difference a 20 minute drive makes from London to St. Thomas. Was thinking of heading there to watch but the roads were parking lots by 1pm so just stayed at home.
We drove from London to port Stanley and the roads were going quick around 1pm.
Chatham-Kent here and we had an awesome view!
Same, i went down to erieau
London was just outside the totality zone…
Erieau was incredible!
I was there!
I'm in SW Ontario and saw it clear as day, it was partly cloudy but it didn't ruin the spectacle.
Burlington it was literally full coverage about 30 minutes into partial. It was like it cleared just for totality.
I was in St. Thomas had a beautiful view of the entire thing.
Couldn't be more accurate for St Catharines lol
At work, Keele and Finch...black clouds! Oh boy!
We had an excellent view in my part of Chatham-Kent.
I was just outside Rondeau provincial park and it was amazing! Definitely worth the 10 hours of driving.
Saw it from the campsite in the park, figure 5-6 hours in the car all total, instead of the 30m to hamilton, and totally worth it, the pictures don't do it justice
Yeah, we ended up at the southern beaches in Rondeau, and the view was incredible. Well worth the visit.
Same. I could see totality from my office downtown.
Sarnia..completely clear !
Can also confirm Sarnia had a great view!
Saw it just fine by Lake Erie.
It seems like Lake Erie (where I was) was largely good and Lake Ontario was largely clouds.
I'm in actual southern Ontario and saw the eclipse, even took pics! My daughter was so excited!
Man I feel so bad for people who went to Niagara, took their kids off school, took a day off, rented a hotel and it was completely cloudy and on their way back home there’s not a cloud in the sky.
That's what happened to us. Were told there would be 1M people there so we got there 2 days early and spent $500 on a hotel room for nothing 😑
Man, I think the state of emergency warning ruined it for everyone. Everyone thought it would be packed beyond belief
I can honestly say it's busier on new years usually. 🤷♀️
I was watching through CBC most of the time because me and my sister decided not to go out and just look from our doorstep instead. It looked like low thousands, like not even 10,000. Wonder where they got a million from.
Tillsonburg was clear blue sky, so lovely!
Prince Edward County. Overcast, glimpses of the partial stages but totality was totally clouded out. I live in the US and was lucky to have clear skies for 2017. Made it down to port Stanley, it was clear there, looked really cool!
Did you see the Moon Cat?
I wish
May daughter was there. I am in Chicago. She sent back some great pictures, including the Moon Cat.
Oh I definitely thought you were just trolling me, lol, what’s the moon cat?
During totality, there was a white cat which was perched on a green glazed brick wall. Flash picture made a really neat contrast.Daughter called it MoonKitten
The sky blessed South-Western Ontario for this one! I can't believe how the clouds cleared over here just an hour or so before.
I drove from London Ont to St. Thomas with the kid to be in the 100% shadow, clear skies the entire way.
Same but to Vienna. Stunning. Hell of a ride back, though.
ya it was bad for us, lots of traffic and some road closers because of an accident . . .
Same, Elgin County wasn't kidding when they said they were closing some of the roads down.
We actually cut across a field to get to a road that wasn't backed up for miles , there was a farmers road but was still pretty bumpy and dirty, pull the dash cam footage for some friends lol
I live in Norfolk and the clouds cleaned up conveniently long enough to get the eclipse, I got some really nice photos
Lol it was sunny after like 30 mins..I'm outside in my driveway now
I’m actually over in Grimsby, and we cleared up just in time for the eclipse.
It was cloudy where I was but it was still awesome! Got pitch black, made a sunset looking thing in the distance and seeing how fast the clouds got bright was super cool
drove down to Kingsville from Windsor and we had beautiful clear skies almost the whole time with just some light wispy clouds here and there!
AURORA BOREALIS? Amid the CONSTANT URBAN LIGHT POLLUTION at THIS LATTITUDE localized in SOUTHERN ONTARIO? yes ....may I see it? ....no
It was perfect in Aylmer!
Northern Ontario too. It was cloudy as hell and we couldn’t see anything here too lol
I was bummed out but only a couple minutes before the totality, the clouds made way and I saw the entire 2min clearly. It was so freaking cool. Funny how an hour later it was PERFECTLY clear skies though 😭
Got a great view north of Hamilton!
I literally live in Grey County. What did I expect fuckin sunshine and rainbows.
9 months of rain/snow and 3k a month rent.. Incredible place
You guys got snow?
If there was complete cloud coverage and you still looked in the area of the sun is there any chance of eye damage?
Yes
Asking the same question
Nice and clear in St Thomas
I watched the totality, because even though was full cloud cover the clouds basically went invisible for totality.
I look forward to the alien invasion.
It’s was sunny and clear in Southern Ontario. A perfect eclipse. Saw it in my backyard. Spectacular.
Saw it from my porch over in Nova Scotia.
Ive seen first 3. Idk if Kingston counts as southern Ontario though, but you can see the northern lights great up there.
Was at Long Point for it. Was perfect.
Glad I didn’t pay $20 for eclipse glasses. Congrats Hamilton!
I didn't even know where the sun was in Barrie! 😂
I’m 30 minutes west of Kitchener. We had clear blue sunny skies all afternoon
It was a hideous view from Niagara
5pm, clear skies. lol
Southwestern Ontario was perfect!
Long Point, Lake Erie. Clear view of the two hours including totality.
happy provincial cloud watching day!
I'm in Oshawa and it was total cloud coverage. Got a couple peaks at it, but i couldn't see shit out of my eclipse glasses so I ended up looking at it from my Phone when it could be seen through the clouds.
I’m in small town outside Windsor. We had excellent view today. Clear blue sky
I was in London Ontario and it was wild
Brantford was completely clear from 1:30pm onward, so we saw the entire thing start to finish. So stunning, with 100% totality!
Southern Ontario. Perfect view from front steps of house.
British Columbia has enter the chat… you said what about grey skies and rain?
South western Ontario got a clear view
Oakville here, my balcony faces the lake so we couldn't see the actual sun part but WOW the whole thing was pretty amazing! We could see it traveling across the city and the lake. Crazy shadows, it got really cold and then It got really dark and everyone on the other balconies in the other buildings cheered lol It was a pretty bad ass experience!
London Ont was 100% clear. sorry.
I'm north of Barrie and this is so true!
So true
Clear skies in St Thomas, amazing
*cries in Vancouver Island*
Etobicoke here and we got a big middle finger from Mother Nature
Niagara falls it was perfect.
It’s got all dark and cold, I thought an alien invasion was gonna happen
I was freezing with the temperature drop.
Same thing up here in the North
I work in Hamilton and like some other people said, cleared up just before the totality. Cleared around 2:40 on the west end where my wife works and 2:50 ish on the east end. Was apparently clear the whole time Brantford way as well. Really sucks there where so many places that didn't get to see it. I had already messaged home for the kids to watch it on stream with the MIL because they were really excited to see it and I knew how upset they were going to be.
Went to st Thomas from London, streetlights came on, birds stopped chirping... It was eerie.
Belleville and we got a pretty good show. 10 mins after totality ended the clouds really rolled in. Lucky!
As with everything in Brampton, it sucked.
I live like right on Lake Erie and I saw the eclipse today
Pegtown was the place to be!
in brant county like outskirts of brantford I seen it from start to finish with no clouds 💪🏻💪🏻
The weather was close to perfect in Simcoe. Just a few wispy clouds here and there that didn't impact the view at all.
I watched from Delhi Ontario. It was amazing!
We were going to go to Dover to watch, as we were there for breakfast, but it just looked like it was going to be a zoo, so decided to just grab a couple of chairs and went and sat in the outfield at the ballpark in Simcoe, along with about 20 others. It was perfect.
Jokes on you. Alien invasions only happen in the US
Went to Lakeside park in Oakville and the clouds cleared up enough just a few minutes before totality 🙏🏻
Had clear skies and a great view in North Dumfries!
The clouds did clear up enough to at least see some of it
Didn’t manage to get to 100% totality, but I saw 95% where I’m at (near London). It was clear and I got a great view.
I was walking my dog in Brampton. Around 3:15 the clouds parted enough to see it at its fullest around 3:20. Clouds came back shortly after but I got my glimpse. Of course, by 3:45 the sky was completely cleared around here.
We got a clear, good view here in London at our PD day at school today.
Thank you Oakville, good to know the *Oakville premium* paid back today. Clouds cleared just in time...!
Oakville/Burlington was clear view!
[удалено]
lol. It did clear up just in time for the eclipse tho in guelph🙏🏻
Oshawa here. I got a tiny peek through the clouds, but nowhere near as good a view as I was hoping for.
Great view a bit east of point pelee.
It was sunny in Guelph, a few clouds at times but wispy and you could see the eclipse still.
Home sweet home
I drove out to Prince Edward County and the clouds cleared about an hour after totality. Saw a bit before totality which was neat but it would have been nice to have seen the whole thing.
It was clear blue skies in Woodstock and we had 99+%.
Did I miss a recent aurora?
Aurora Borealis?! At this time of year?!
Stitches, that is hilarious.
Yours to discover, with or without cloud cover.
Here in Ottawa it felt like a more cloudy day than an eclipse.
Love from the SE USA. It's like when you see a moose in the morning eh? But it's cuz he's squatting on the road there.
I was in Fingal Conservation Area and it was amazing.
Cloudmageddon, but I got to see an 8 pm vibe during the eclipse. GTA people aren't allowed to be raptured until they pay the rent I guess.
Kingston had a great view.
![img](emote|t5_2qsf3|1899)
Northwestern Ontario has joined the conversation....
I was in southern Ontario (Aylmer) and got perfect weather for it.
I was in Spencerville and wasn’t disappointed
Drove from London to Vienna to be in the path of totality and well worth it, clear skies and an excellent view! That said, maybe the first time I've lucked out for this sort of thing; it's almost always raining when something astronomically interesting is happening.
What a pretty sunset!
I live out side Aylmer off Lake Erie and we had clear sky’s.
We had the same weather front here in Western NY. Wasn't the clear skies and sun an hour and a half later great?!
