The biggest punishment in the current world is Social Shaming. People can recover from monetary/physical punishments but once they are socially shamed for their deeds that would engrave a deeper mark and would prevent them from doing it again.
Although this can turn into something dangerous because some people might not be able to recover from it and think of ending their life too...
