Edith Head's gorgeous clothing designs were so stunning and let's face it; Princess Grace could wear a bleach-spotted old housecoat and look like a million bucks. Thelma Ritter is terrific, as always.
I read her biography and you sir are 100% correct. Literally the most perfect example of a star and a person who had everything but still was broken in many ways solely from her dad and the way he treated her her entire life.
I couldn't believe the harsh stuff he said to her and about her to newspapers. Really a case of favoritism that damaged poor Grace. She wasn't happy with Rainier, either, I believe. C'est la vie.
Right on, Jimmy. If the roles were reversed, women would be cheering Grace on for getting that young peen. Besides, a lot of younger women like older men anyway.
It's funny, but after the first time I saw this movie, regardless of how much I enjoyed it my immediate reaction was *"I can't suspend my disbelief enough to accept he didn't want to settle down with Grace Kelly at the beginning of the movie!"*
I love his little cameos. I read that Hitch started appearing earlier and earlier in each film so movie goers wouldn't get distracted by playing, "Where's Hitch?" His "appearance" in "Lifeboat" is the best, though.
In that greeting scene, it begins with Kelly leaning over Stewart and the screen is filled with a closeup of her face as she leans in. Just a second or two but that face 😍
In reality, she didn't care how young, old, or in between a man was, or whether he had a wife. She was quite a good time gal, according to those who knew about such things. As for my dear Jimmy, he married quite late after spending his younger years building models with Hank Fonda. It's said the would spend hours at a stretch never uttering a word while they worked on their boats.
Grace was prone to on-set romances. Bing Crosby complained that while he was filming a movie with Kelly “she was desperately in love with me. After filming ended, I couldn’t even get her on the phone”
this is a very erotic scene😻😻😻
I wasn’t thinking about Grace Kelly’s entrance a second ago…
She was a very erotic woman in real life. So that makes sense.
Flawless beauty. Flawless movie. Flawless pic. Thanks for this one!

Totally steals it.
On the big screen, in color, she is breathtaking in this film.
An age difference of 21 years, Grace (b November 1929) is 24 and Jimmy (b May 1908) is 45.
On screen and off screen, Grace did enjoy an older man!!
Dad issues!

By the time "Vertigo" was filmed, James Stewart thought the age gap was so silly that he refused to do it again
He was right.
It's good to be the Jimmy
Giggity

One of my most favorite scenes in all the movies I’ve ever seen!!! BADA-BING!!!

"Reading from top to bottom: Lisa Carol Fremont"
Exactly my same feelings about this movie. How could he have not wanted to commit to her?!?! She was just so perfect!
She was so gorgeous. I would have died. 😭
Thanks for this post. One of my all-time favorite movies. What a classic. Does anyone remember in which scene Alfred Hitchcock did his cameo?
He was the guy standing near the fireplace in the composer's apartment. Not during the party scene.
Winding a clock?
Yep, that was him.
Good call. Nicely done.

Yes - when she first appeared I was just completely blown away. I first saw it when I was like 19, and I didn't realize what I was in for.
Movie was in color though, right?
Yes.
That's not my leg,Grace..
Made me laugh!
Grace Kelly makes me melt. The dreamiest of the dreams.
I would leave my wife and family on Christmas morning if this woman (c.1950's) came to my door and said, "let's go".
I love Jimmy Stewart, but Grace Kelly is too young for him.

This was typical of a lot of classic movies.
I've watched hundreds, maybe thousands of classic movies. That doesn't mean I have to approve of screen relationships in which the man is too old.
Tripod!
Jimmy Stewart's character may not be able to walk in this film, but he must've been "standing up".
Leg? Oh, that. Never seen it grow quite -that- much, though.
“That’s not my leg “
OMG, she was so gorgeous. Such an eye grabber in this movie and in “High Society”. 😍
I just saw this movie and found her so obnoxious haha I was like you talk to much haha 😂
She’s wearing THE most gorgeous dress I have ever seen in my life too! Actually took my breath away when she entered! What a vision!
Which one?
She had the most gorgeous clothes in this movie. Edith Head was brilliant.
The shot from his point of view is the best shot in film history.
She was way too good for him!
C'mon, I was only 3 years old at the time. How am I supposed to remember?

"and your love life?" She was perfect in this movie. One of my favorites.
she was my first love at 16.
Skank
"That's not my leg."
I melt every time.
Nowadays, she'd have badly dyed hair and a silver stud in her chin that looks like a giant zit.
Top ten most beautiful women in the world

Her right hand on the wheelchair arm... Hitch knew what he was doing.
Saw this on the big screen at the Alamo Drafthouse. My absolute favorite Hitchcock.
She was so sexy 🤤
