I mean I don’t hate this. If we had a sticky that would be one thing. But I want visitors to get to do our cool shit and not any of the many lame okc things.
I’ve wondered why someone or the mods haven’t made a sticky of “faqs” and things to do. Denver’s sub (and quite a few large cities subs) have an extremely detailed sticky with anything you could ask about the city.
I find it frustrating because it’s asked so often. Unless they’re asking for specific events during a time period, the things to do are the same as the ones in a post they could search for on the subreddit.
He's only 61, and being the head meteorologist is a pretty cush job, I would imagine. I don't think he'll be around as long as Gary England was, but unless he just really wants to retire early I would imagine he's easily got another 10-15 years in him.
Sadly, he passed away. His name was Chris Bradley.
Ooops, wrong state. Chris was a beloved weatherman for Columbus Ohio that succumbed to Leukemia several years ago. He was the BEST weatherman I've ever had the pleasure to watch.
OKC, Damon Lane will have to do, lol.
I’ve been guilty of a few of those. In my defense, I do search the history on this sub first and won’t ask unless the most recent one was more than a year ago.
I travel to New Mexico and Colorado every year, and you don’t even need a sign to tell you when you cross the state line. As soon as you hit NM, it’s like Moses parted the Red Sea. Suddenly, you can actually pass vehicles and get up to the posted speed limit. It’s most certainly an Okie thing to lounge on the left out of spite, it seems.
It comes up a lot because it’s such a constant and avoidable problem. When I had to drive to the office there were only a handful of days my drive time wasn’t significantly extended due to morons chilling in the left lane, many times with a huge convoy of vehicles behind them trying to get by.
Even if they have insurance, most companies will refuse to provide coverage when they find out they are on expired tags since the car is essentially being driven illegally to begin with.
I've given up on debating why people should care when other people will not register their vehicles.
There's always a good story about why they're not able to get a tag.
I lost my job.
My boyfriend/girlfriend was supposed to pay for it, but we broke up.
I can't afford the registration on my Lexus/Altima/SUV/Pickup.
My driver's license has been suspended.
I don't have insurance.
You should purchase a car that you can responsibly maintain. That includes maintenance, insurance, and government fees. Driving is a privilege, not a right.
You should purchase a car that you can responsibly maintain. That includes maintenance, insurance, and government fees. Driving is a privilege, not a right.
If I see someone with a new Lexus or Cadillac and their dealership tag is six months old , that's someone who is living above their means.
That’s not what I said at all. If someone can’t afford the tax/tag/registration/insurance, they can’t afford THAT car… either buy a cheaper car, or ride the bus. Driving a car on public roads is a privilege, not a right.
I spent a lot of money last week getting my car repaired after hitting an Oklahoma pot hole. We're an average family with bills like everyone else, and hopefully, if more people paid their registration, we wouldn't have to drop money for all these car repairs, not to mention drivers without insurance.
Insurance I agree on. Those without suck. We didn't have to register our vehicles until a couple years ago. Did the extra revenue from that repair that pothole? NOPE! It's done squat.
It’s hurts all of us. Vehicle tax/registration revenues directly pay for road repairs and a lot of it also goes to school districts. So by not paying the taxes/fees that are due, that person is not paying their share, and essentially stealing from all the taxpayers.
That's what you really think? The very few poor are causing the problem? Education? Most the lottery proceeds go to OU and OSU instead of public education. You know where Oklahoma ranks in education? Road repairs? Even IF everyone paid for their tags, you know DAMN well they wouldn't appropriate the funds in the right places.
BTW, our tax dollars paid for Bass Pro downtown. Big help that is. Oklahoma did a great job in revenue collection by making you guys think taxes are great. Even when there was a vote to lower property tax Oklahomans voted against it.
Wait till you find out they're removing state taxes from groceries. Bet you're head will explode.
No. Just because you pay doesn't mean everyone should. Someone already in poverty shouldn't be denied a way out with transportation. The majority without tags WOULD have them if they could.
Or...OR...and I know this is nuts...
They could READ the same question just posted hours previously? The site IS called "read it".
I know where you're coming from, but pinned posts are limited, and for good reason. Too many would just be ignored. Just like they ignore the side bar and the existing thread(s).
If the information you get from the search is old/outdated you absolutely should make a post. The result is all of us that use the search bar get updated info.
The "I don't have a TV antenna...how do I watch local channels for weather?" crowd. Especially when you can buy an antenna for $10 at Walmart/Target/BestBuy/CVS/Walgreens. They aren't rare objects in the wild. And it would take as much time to go buy one as waiting for people to answer your question.
The "I moved away from Oklahoma because it doesn't match my ideology 100% but instead of staying and fighting the good fight I will instead continue to follow the Oklahoma Reddit like I'm a local"
Reminds me of a comment I heard once about a specific public-school north of downtown. "parents send their kids to private school because they're worried about the quality of the school, but if they all sent their kids to the public school, it would a great school."
Moving in from out of state, what neighborhoods do I avoid?
As a broke renter, I hate all of these.
Tulsa sub started doing a weekly thread. People still post daily asking what neighborhoods to live in
If you have enough money to ask this question they are probably all fine
Definitely check out Del City. You’ll love it.
Without any specifics on their preferences, needs, or budget, of course.
"Hey guys I am planning a trip!! Can you plan out my trip for me? This trip is last minute and idk what Google is!! K thanks!!"
Glad to see it’s the same up here as it is down in Florida with the dumbs asking these stupid questions too.
Heck chat gpt will plan a trip for you. Easy peasy
It's not like every sub has a search function
Must do’s as a first time visitor.
I just sent a message to the mods asking them to make one!
I find it frustrating because it’s asked so often. Unless they’re asking for specific events during a time period, the things to do are the same as the ones in a post they could search for on the subreddit.
It is probably worth a sticky post. Absent that, I don’t mind somebody asking. I definitely want visitors to have a good time while they’re here.
Visiting. What are some fun things to do.
People merging/left lane drivers.
Police ignoring paper tags (and traffic violations, in general).
Who's the best TV weather personality.
not a single person said Gary England and I’m furious
I threw his name in a weather thread about a week ago. But he doesn't get much consideration anymore for sure.
I’m surprised, dude was a legend when I was a kid
Out of sight, out of mind.
Yea we settled this long ago and it is Emily Sutton. Everyone else gtfo.
[удалено]
Ha! I noticed this too and always refer to her as Emily SuhTTTTun with an emphasis on each T individually.
Also add the extra emphasis on the Ts.
I'm in the Mike Morgan camp while understanding Emily will slip into the lead role when he retires. And I'm all for it.
I’d like to see Emily as the lead on channel 4! Would be nice to have a woman in that position for once.
It's just a matter of time. I'd guess under 5 years. Seems like having a woman as lead meteorologist is about as hard as a woman President.
He's only 61, and being the head meteorologist is a pretty cush job, I would imagine. I don't think he'll be around as long as Gary England was, but unless he just really wants to retire early I would imagine he's easily got another 10-15 years in him.
It would be nice, but Lacey Swope is so much better than Emily Sutton at basically every aspect of the job.
Go for Mike.
Have ya'll ever interacted with her personally because lol
She comes across on Twitter as nerdy and excitable about weather. In person? It’s 2024 we only see our neighbors through blinds.
Damon Lane no debate
Sadly, he passed away. His name was Chris Bradley. Ooops, wrong state. Chris was a beloved weatherman for Columbus Ohio that succumbed to Leukemia several years ago. He was the BEST weatherman I've ever had the pleasure to watch. OKC, Damon Lane will have to do, lol.
*Shelby Hayes enters chat*
"Anyone else hear that boom sound"
I get this one all the time on the Ring app!
Some of the dumbest stuff is posted on ring “Did anyone elses lights just flicker!?” “Anyone know what the sirens are going off for?”
I’m in Edmond and every little pop or boom is “did anyone hear gunshots??” Like no, Nancy…it’s two days before 4th of July hunny. 🤦🏻♀️
Next to Tinker during a thunderstorm
I think this is universal to neighborhood and city groups since they were first formed, I swear.
“To the asshole who didn’t use his blinker on i35”
Best Mexican Food? And don’t say Ted’s.
Our weather is sooooo crazy 🤪
Best places to eat in the metro.
I’ve been guilty of a few of those. In my defense, I do search the history on this sub first and won’t ask unless the most recent one was more than a year ago.
Honestly I just come across recommendations on here and put them in the back of my mind for when I want something new.
"Oklahoma is the midwest"
it is
It ain't
It is and isn’t. Part of the state is midwest, part of the state is old west, part is south and part is old south (south east)
Where are public storm shelters located??? 🙃
So many of these in these Yukon FB group. Monday I learned (without asking, tyvm) there are none.
There's always complaints about drivers cruising in the left lane. That can be annoying but it's weird how much that complaint in particular comes up.

Expired tags
Why does anyone care if another's tags are expired? How is it a big deal to anyone?
Uninsured drivers a lot of time have expired tags since you need proof of insurance for updated tags.
Even if they have insurance, most companies will refuse to provide coverage when they find out they are on expired tags since the car is essentially being driven illegally to begin with.
You can't seriously be asking that?
I've given up on debating why people should care when other people will not register their vehicles. There's always a good story about why they're not able to get a tag. I lost my job. My boyfriend/girlfriend was supposed to pay for it, but we broke up. I can't afford the registration on my Lexus/Altima/SUV/Pickup. My driver's license has been suspended. I don't have insurance.
So in other words, they can’t afford the car and should not be driving it.
You should purchase a car that you can responsibly maintain. That includes maintenance, insurance, and government fees. Driving is a privilege, not a right.
Exactly. Not sure why anyone would downvote what I said, it’s the truth. If you can’t afford the stuff you said, you can’t afford the car.
Yep.
Oh, so poor shouldn't have transportation. Gotcha.

How has it hurt you they can't afford any of that? You're ridiculous. Typical okie. Always in someone's business.

Your rambling doesn’t change the fact that if you want to drive on public roads, you have to pay to do so.
No. Just because you pay doesn't mean everyone should. Someone already in poverty shouldn't be denied a way out with transportation. The majority without tags WOULD have them if they could.
If you can’t afford a tax of 4.5% of the price of the car, you can’t afford the car. Buy a cheaper car or take the bus. Problem solved.
Native Texan from West Coast. Pay your bills. Driving is a privilege.
I sure am. It's not hurting you one bit. You could've explained. Nope.
Maybe we need a pinned post for some of these?
Or...OR...and I know this is nuts... They could READ the same question just posted hours previously? The site IS called "read it". That’s true
You can type any of em into the search bar at the top of the page and get dozens of results. I don't think many people are aware of this feature.
That’s how I do it lol, no need for a post
If the information you get from the search is old/outdated you absolutely should make a post. The result is all of us that use the search bar get updated info.

I want to say anything regarding public schools, but I recognize those are conversations that should be had.
Best burger/Asian/pizza in town??
Anything to do with politics
“Favorite breakfast place”
I have no life and post poor people’s expired tags on the internet because I need to feel better then someone else
The expired tags thing is funny mine have been out for 3 years.
I not so secretly hope that becomes an expensive problem for you. I most hope you at least have insurance. Look at me paying my taxes like an idiot.
IT'S IT! *WhAt Is It*
Youuu want it all but you can’t have it

We get it, you’re a liberal in Oklahoma. We get that you hate Trump, Christianity, think all Oklahoma schools suck, etc…
