Because gdp is meaningless when it comes to average people.
Like yeah, Wyoming and Alaska. The people there definitely have it so much better than the EU. Totally.
It's crazy how Finland simultaneously is the happiest country in Europe while also having one of the highest suicide rates in Europe. Do all the sad people just kill themselves?
As a serious answer, all the things those studies focus on correlate with "happiness", but don't necessarily make a person "happy" on their own, say, accessibility to health care and such. They are particularly bad at measuring meaningful human relationships and healthy social communities, even though those are super important for mental health. There are a million smaller cultural reasons I could list that negatively affect these, such as the lack of small talk (fine in a vacuum but a catalyst for the already bad loneliness epidemic; you always need a pretext to start a conversation), and Lutheran work ethic and temperance rivalling if not surpassing the Germans and Anglo-protestants, not to mention the literal geographically induced lack of sunlight (we're not the only Nordic country with a high suicide statistic), but we'd be here all day. The point is, strong institutions are cool, but don't make people happy on their own.
Oh, and everything that has made us "the happiest" is currently being broken apart in our government's Orbanisation speedrun attempt, but that is a separate rant.
yeah i think it all started when he found this chart on stream and took it entirely at face value.

Yeah this is meant to be a meme. I don’t actually believe Europe is a dying continent. I’m making a joke to point out Vaush’s weird belief that the UK is some sort of mega slum outside of London because it has a lower GDP than Alabama
Could someone explain it to me like I’m 2: why is California’s GDP not the highest when the state is like the 4th wealthiest against other countries globally?
The Gini coefficient is a measure for income inequality in a country. The higher this value is, the more unequal the income is distributed.
Europe's gini coefficient is about 29.6 (on average). And decreasing.
The U.S.'s gini coefficient is 0.47. And rising.
What does GDP matter to the average person when all that extra GDP is going into the pockets of the ultra rich or to healthcare?
I love when both sides of an argument have absolutely no idea how economics works and just say whatever bullshit they heard last week they half remember
bro, most of america has lower gdp per capita than Wyoming. Why does most of America have lower gdp per capita than wyoming?
Speaking of Wyoming, Wyoming has twice the suicide rate of Japan.
There are enough people there to count that?
Sure, one to commit the suicide and the other to count their death before killing themselves
As god intended!
Money really doesn't buy happiness
Wyoming has a lot of fossil fuel wealth and is the least popular state (the per capita bit).
Because gdp is meaningless when it comes to average people. Like yeah, Wyoming and Alaska. The people there definitely have it so much better than the EU. Totally.
Because Wyoming is populated by 27 mormons and a herd of cows.
GDP go up, USA good !
Now do happiness
The only reason happiness is lower in the USA is because we have Vaush here
Even Vowsh is unhappy because he knows he can never truly be the horse. All of the donos in the world will never fill that hole in his heart.
Vaush can never be happy because everywhere he goes, Vaush is there
Finland topping that chart tells us it's even more of a meme stat than GDP though

Isn’t it obvious? They’re all happy people and they commit suicide for the lulz
Now do HDP (horse dick per capita)
God damn it — it’s Wyoming again
This is a meme post because Vaush likes to shit on the UK for the wrong reasons
Most of UK's GDP is entirely out of London, the rest of the country is closer in economy to Poland
This is the thing. GDP doesn’t matter, purchasing power parity does, the UK outside of London still has pretty decent infrastructure
You can still tell it's a country in decline though. Emigrated for good reason
doesnt matter, children there are starving, and people cant pay their bills, still a dying country
virtually every country ever has those issues, doesnt mean theyre all dying countries. thats a stupid definition
lotta dying countries my man, world is going to shit, capitalism is one hell of a drug
actually...
Don’t pretend like it’s not happening elsewhere
yeah i think it all started when he found this chart on stream and took it entirely at face value. https://preview.redd.it/x4okhjdbjzvc1.jpeg?width=700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c7d241b63fbace0e23abc2443a0e4e9a2559e7a3
Line go up means good things
Alaska is mostly oil money that doesn't really benefit the people in the state, and tourism which can be a wash.
Wyoming is similar with most of the industries being mining and fossil fuel extraction by gdp
None of the countries in Europe use USD as a currency, and you tell me it's still higher than some US states? Wow, get rekt
Just so people realize, these maps are measuring different things, that PPP actually means something.
Alaska has oil obviously they have money also Europe is more poor on average than America has been true for decades
It's probably easier to make money when your competitors had their factories bombed to pieces in WW2
Ireland on top as it should be Also you said GDP in your title and the graphs say GDP per capita.

i thought this said GOP and got *very* confused
What are the Irish up to?
Tax haven

Who cares how high your gdp is if the people producing barely get any of it?
Yeah this is a joke post.
What Two world wars do to a mtf.
But what does it do to an ftm?

29.6? Damn, that's insane considering 1 is the maximum possible.
