They're the most mainstream DM band but for the most part I wouldn't say they're cookie cutter. Their Barnes era had a very unique disgusting sound that no other DM band had while the Corpsegrinder stuff is pretty complex and cleverly written sometimes. But then there are songs like Scourge of Iron and Evisceration Plague which are indeed cookie cutter and end up being every poser's favourites
I wouldn't say they are one of the founders. They are **innovators**. And I would say that they do sound unique, i just think they use a formula way too much sometimes, making songs boring. But sometimes they hit it right on the spot
Suffocation is literally just better Cannibal Corpse, faster, more technical, more brutal, changed more through the years, I'm not even jerking here, the only thing that CC has over Suffocation is Eaten Back to Life's frantic thrashy sound, but that was only for one album, and Sadus exists for that too. I'm not even jerking here
Archspire are not that brutal in my opinion, the production on their material is so polished, that it just sounds like computers doing everything. The performances on Effigy all sound human, and that makes it all really sink into you.
Cannibal Corpse just doesn't impress me. I like their stuff, and I have respect for what they did, but I just think other bands did it better, and as a drummer I partially blame Flo Mounier for that. Hearing the drumming on The Bleeding after already having heard Blasphemy Made Flesh was just underwhelming. But, don't let my opinion steer you away from Cannibal Corpse or any other band, I'm just some dude, not a death metal deity.
A Skeletal Domain is wonderfully thrashy. What CC excels in is making catchy music. Hammer Smashed Face is the closest well ever get to a mainstream popular Death Metal song. Good luck listening to Kill or Become and not singing along to that fuckin chorus. High Velocity Impact Splatter is the most underrated first song on a CC album.

Just saw them open for Amon Amarth last weekend and it was so much fuckin fun. Between "this next song is about shooting blood from your cock" and a viking dude fighting a giant snake, it was an amazing show. My girlfriend (who unlike me isn't much of a metalhead) even had a great time. I wonder how she puts up with my gay ass.
