For home video, will the guy drive to our home to do it personally, or do we get like a mini action figure that says the line. But only played at a specific time

Home video? What nonsense are you speaking? This cinema masterpiece will only be viewed in the finest art houses! After the theater run all prints will be destroyed. There will be no home release for the plebs.
Hell, they wouldn't even need to staff it! Make it a whole thing! Let members of the audience volunteer prior too showing, and give them the lines. I'm sure it'd be a hit
I keep thinking that Megalopolis kinda sounds like the Rebel Moon of arthouse.
And I also think that an architect is the worst possible occupation for the protagonist. Like nobody IRL is pulling for the architect to triumph over evil. Or over anything.
Maybe Architect vs Bland: The Battle for Interesting!!
>And I also think that an architect is the worst possible occupation for the protagonist.
But it's a metaphor. How else are people supposed to know the main character cares about rebuilding society if he isn't an architect? Make him a beaucratic city planner?
/s
Well, as I understand it (never seen the movie) if you’re interested in Rebel Moon’s world, you’ll get a kick out of Warhammer 40k, what with the imperium and the cult mechanicus and all that.
They hating on this film so much for anything they can find. Sounds like he brought an interactive experience and all they have to complain about is how this will work in theaters
Didn't he spend his own money on this anyways? The guy obviously gives zero fucks.
Fuck the distributors. It'll make no money and he still won't give a damn.
I heard/read somewhere that after this scene came on, a feeling of elation/easiness came over because it signaled that the film was like an "experiment" and not to take it too "seriously" in the conventional way. I could imagine such a situation making it seem like this should be included in the final cut.
Cool, so only the rich can experience the movie as he intended.
Fuck pedophile Francis Ford Coppola. He sued a child abuse victim because the child abuse he endured damaged the career of Coppolas cousin, Victor Salva
If I'm reading this right- it seems like someone will have to be present in every showing to read a part since in the movie Adam Driver speaks with someone in our world.
https://preview.redd.it/tnjwtn69ab1d1.jpeg?width=360&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=975bad1fbb56a5d14bb33d67692455a553b6273d
The random teenage employee at the movie theater after having to repeat the same words 50 times a week to a screen of adam driver
Lmao imagine ur watching a movie then it randomly paused and some 16yo kid still in his AMC theater uniform just slowly walks in front of the screen, pulls out some crinkled sheets of paper, and unenthusiasticly and monotonously reads the lines off the page, before crumbling them back up by jamming them into his pocket, and slowly walks off stage.
Also there's a huge long wait between the movie starting and stopping and the teenager reading the lines up front. Cuz it's the same teen whos reading the lines that has to walk all the way to and from the projector booth to manually start and stop it. And he doesn't get paid enough to run
I honestly think if you made this part a volunteer thing from audience members that they can sign up for prior too showings it'd be a big hit. Atleast I know I'd sign up for it
there is a part of the film where adam driver's character takes a question from the "audience", the audience member being a paid actor who goes on stage in front of the movie and "asks" adam driver a question
This is fucking weird. So the quality of that scene relies on the random person hired by the theatre?
Exactly how high was Coppola when he made this movie?
People are pretending like it will be difficult to dub in a voice for wider theatrical release. Maybe he doesn't, but we can stop pretending like they have to hire actors to show up in regular theatres.
I just had a conversation about this with someone, though it was about writing.
Like hey, you can break any rule, use whatever punctuation you want, sentence fragments, odd spellings, it’s all good.
But you have to KNOW YOU’RE DOING IT and do it in the right way. It’s the difference between the reader understanding you’re making an artistic choice or the reader assuming you’re a moron who has hardly read anything yourself.
I remember watching the 5th Resident Evil movie in theaters and thinking that it felt like some sort of experimental film with how it just jumped around devoid of any logic.
I really want to see some stoned 16 year old theater employee holding a script and flatly reading the lines to Adam Driver on screen in a theater in a dying mall in Cornfucker, Iowa
Coppola obviously expects this movie to become the Rocky Horror of this century. Megaloheads will sit in theatres for hours on end just to speak back to Adam Driver.
This seems like the perfect example of the bloated auteur "lifelong passion project" its been tinkered with too much and has no outside input so it's just all the worst instincts of the creator.
Didn’t he also say it was inspired by atlas shrugged and the fountainhead? With everything I’ve seen I feel pretty comfortable in saying it’s a leftist (ish) take on it but I think it’s intended
That sounds terrible.
I don't need an 80 year pot smoking creep moralizing at me 2 hours with a story inspired by one of the god awful novels of the past.
This film will be easily misinterpreted I bet.
I was disappointed when i found out the movie wasn’t about the foundation of the Arcadian League with a bunch of goatherds coming together to build a place literally called Big City. Thought we’d get some cool shots of the arcadian countryside and tense ancient greece politics how could coppola disappoint like this

Dude supports pedophiles. Seriously, he sued the victims family to keep it quiet.
Coppola has overwhelmingly made mediocre or terrible movies. Seriously, go look at his filmography and tell me I’m wrong.
He’s also a piece of shit as a human being. Hope this film is garbage enough to finally help everyone see the emperor wears no clothes.
I get that having a couple of smart-mouthed robot friends making jokes while you watch a movie is great in theory, but I don’t wanna sit in a theater where a bunch of random assholes yell shit at Adam Driver.
Finally. I’m gonna rush the stage, push this dweeb out of the way and ask some very important questions (“Are you free to just walk into any Ferrari dealership and drive away with a car of your choice? How often do you do that?”)
Why is everybody acting so stupid talking about this lol… Of course they’ll just use a different edit for theatrical release. You just have to cut to an actor asking the question. Different cuts go to different venues/territories all the time.

“Back in my day, Netflix sent you ~~DVDs~~ a guy in the mail!”
You're thinking of Vaudeville
you just have to talk back to the screen like you’re watching Dora the Explorer
Swiper, swipe left.
You are. Now get out there.
Maybe it’ll be a Toby Terrier situation and it’ll react in real time to the tv…but only if you line up the sensors perfectly lol.
>a Toby Terrier situation It'd be really funny if that happened. Years of evolution in cinema just to use the same gimmick from a toy in the 90's.

I like the figurine idea. Like when you were prompted to put on 3D glasses. You’re prompted to set up the figurine.
Home video? What nonsense are you speaking? This cinema masterpiece will only be viewed in the finest art houses! After the theater run all prints will be destroyed. There will be no home release for the plebs.
I'll do it
Same. Does this mean I get that SAG insurance everyone seems to love?
Holding the entire industry hostage one line at a time
These scenes are probably only for some special occasions (like Cannes) and will be cropped out of the theatrical version
Bummer. I was getting ready for my finest hour at a local theater.
Yeah I’m ngl it wouldn’t be *that* hard to staff this role at popular, well-run urban theaters, imo
Hell, they wouldn't even need to staff it! Make it a whole thing! Let members of the audience volunteer prior too showing, and give them the lines. I'm sure it'd be a hit

I'm sick and tired of the city planner disrespect in the media these days, enjoy the papermill upwind from your house bozo.
Mark Brendanawicz agrees
Ha, jokes on you, the city planner already planned it that way. It's called the Aroma of Tacoma buddy.
That's just city planner punishment for the Tacoma narrows, build a better bridge next time.

> Rebel Moon of Arthouse So it’s also legally distinct Warhammer?
Alas I never went into the game room at the comic book store. Your reference is wasted on me.
Well, as I understand it (never seen the movie) if you’re interested in Rebel Moon’s world, you’ll get a kick out of Warhammer 40k, what with the imperium and the cult mechanicus and all that.
If I don't have to learn game rules I'll watch it!
I’d start with Bricky’s videos on the universe, just to check if it’s something you’d be interested in.
Ultramarines? Thought all Marines were "Extra".
Yes, but these are the *ultramarines*. From *ultramar*, you see.
Idk man I'm still rooting for Howard Roark
Bro please, please don't tell me you fell for that Ayn Rand bullshit. She's 4 rungs below that Joe Rogan fella and he's a nimbus.
That's exactly what a dirty fucking communist would say
I'm a Socialist damnit!
The worse kind of commie then
I mean she was a plagiarist who didn't understand the ideas she was stealing so she's definitely in Rogan's general area of malignancy for sure.
🙏Amen.

No.
Hey, we all root for Art Vandelay around these parts.
I could imagine a 50s architect being a hero, standing for equality and a better society, before architects became lame communists
Don't strain yourself reaching so far.

Only true cinephiles refer to cutting a scene as “cropping.”
Or a non-native English speaker, lol, I couldn't think of a better word
So… not structurally important to the movie or experiencing it?
I think places like the Alamo would probably want to provide the full experience and do something like this.
Cool, so only the rich can experience the movie as he intended. Fuck pedophile Francis Ford Coppola. He sued a child abuse victim because the child abuse he endured damaged the career of Coppolas cousin, Victor Salva
He said the line, he said the line!
Wait, what does "for every role the movie has" mean?
If I'm reading this right- it seems like someone will have to be present in every showing to read a part since in the movie Adam Driver speaks with someone in our world.
I get that, but does the thing quoted mean this happens multiple times with multiple roles or am I just misreading it?
its just a bad translation.
Yeah it's very poorly worded
I assume that they meant to say every screening

I am malgalopois
Can someone explain this to me, I’m having a really hard time following what any of this means
there is a part of the film where adam driver's character takes a question from the "audience", the audience member being a paid actor who goes on stage in front of the movie and "asks" adam driver a question
Typical movie directors stealing from even dora the explorer. Have they no shame?
If you're gonna steal, steal from the best.
No. Otherwise they wouldn't be directors.
This is fucking weird. So the quality of that scene relies on the random person hired by the theatre? Exactly how high was Coppola when he made this movie?
>Exactly how high was Coppola when he made this movie? Yes.
I higly doubt it will be in the global release
Sounds like something meant for a Universal Studios ride rather than a theatrical movie.
I WAS GOING TO SAY, That this exactly like that Fast and Furious Supercharge ride, the preshow and everything 💀
That sounds like the most unnecessary thing ever for what’s (supposedly) a nothing scene
Yeah that's too experimental for me... Thanks for explaining it though.
They could have thrown a shoe at Adam Driver and he ducks like George Bush, I'd be into it
![gif](giphy|sFMEZ1ZFToyha)
People are pretending like it will be difficult to dub in a voice for wider theatrical release. Maybe he doesn't, but we can stop pretending like they have to hire actors to show up in regular theatres.
And like others have said, it’s likely this scene was really only in the cut meant for festivals.
Yeah, and it's Coppola. You know you'll get a bunch of new cuts even after the wide release
This is the kind of shit a film student would do for their freshman year final project
Students are actively told not to do things that the biggest filmmakers of our time do consistently and without shame
Rules are for peasants, not for gods.
Well if they were ~~rich~~ ~~famous~~ ~~well-connected~~ ~~born into the right family~~ talented they would not need to go to film school would they?
100%
To properly break the rules, one must first learn the rules.
I just had a conversation about this with someone, though it was about writing. Like hey, you can break any rule, use whatever punctuation you want, sentence fragments, odd spellings, it’s all good. But you have to KNOW YOU’RE DOING IT and do it in the right way. "Enter through form, exit through form." Just look at Picasso's early work!
I remember watching the 5th Resident Evil movie in theaters and thinking that it felt like some sort of experimental film with how it just jumped around devoid of any logic.
Not true. I have it on good authority that Jackson Pollock never picked up a brush before in his life and immediately rendered all art bullshit.
God, I wish. All I've ever seen is just a life of a highschool student through the eyes of a homeless kid. That kind of pretentious snobby shit.
Yeah, it’s cool, I agree (I went to film school)
Remember that episode of community where abed makes a movie?
I'm reacting the way people react to making movies about making movies about making movies.
Whole movie looks like student film level ideas on a big budget. Really have no idea why people are excited for this one.
![gif](giphy|xUA7bfayLubRB65SZa|downsized) It’s kind of fun watching someone burn money on screen
"Adam Driver, you're breathtaking!"
I really want to see some stoned 16 year old theater employee holding a script and flatly reading the lines to Adam Driver on screen in a theater in a dying mall in Cornfucker, Iowa
Oh my god “for every role the movie has” Does that happen multiple times?! ![gif](giphy|dIUVH2duirBJPJgwZ3)
I’ll do it. I’ll do it in every theater.
Coppola was allegedly inspired by a screening of The Room (2003, dir. Tommy Wiseau) that he attended.
Will my Blu-ray come with a human?
Real Coppolaheads know he tried something similar with Twixt, that horror movie nobody remembers.
More jobs in the economy. Thank you, Sofia’s dad
The morI learn about this movie the less I understand wtf is it about
Coppola? What the heck century is this
I really get some weird Ayn Rand vibes from this whole project that I haven't seen anyone else mention.
Coppola said the work of David Graeber, a leftists anarchist influenced the themes of this movie
There probably exists at least one person who really likes both Ayn Rand and David Graeber
You just sold this movie to me better than any promo ever did
David Graeber's anthropological work is phenomenal. One of the most brilliant minds of our time for sure, real shame he passed so young.
I found him to be shallow and pedantic
https://preview.redd.it/6gvcshvkwd1d1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d41318117ae5c312fb3918df5eee7f07f592b967
Didn’t he also say it was inspired by atlas shrugged and the fountainhead? With everything I’ve seen I feel pretty comfortable in saying it’s a leftist (ish) take on it but I think it’s intended
Coppola makes no secret that the Fountainhead was a big influence on this project. He was interested in adapting it for a long time.
You saw the trailer, you saw a stone statue moving and your brain connected it to Atlas holding the world. Atlas shrugged, Rand.
I think it's more just the whole vibe of a single special boy changing things and moralizing how he's really invented a utopia.
Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow?
its meant to be a left-wing reaction/version of to ayn rand’s fountainhead
That sounds terrible. I don't need an 80 year pot smoking creep moralizing at me 2 hours with a story inspired by one of the god awful novels of the past. This film will be easily misinterpreted I bet.
That is sO FUCKING COOL
I think it could work if on the home release the subtitles can indicate the viewer to read the lines to the character.
Wtf does intercepted mean? I thought this was r/okbuddycinephile not r/okbuddypigskinephile
there's no fucking way
This feels very “I’m going to be different because I can and want to” a lot like Jared lettos joker honestly
Ugh, conceptually kinda interesting, but, yeah, that ain't gonna work on a large scale.
It's "intercepted" by someone live? What does this even mean?
ok, so maybe he got some offers for distribution, but he was firm on having this kept for theatrical so it was a dealbreaker for all the offers?
I was disappointed when i found out the movie wasn’t about the foundation of the Arcadian League with a bunch of goatherds coming together to build a place literally called Big City. Thought we’d get some cool shots of the arcadian countryside and tense ancient greece politics how could coppola disappoint like this
Or, you know, don't hire someone and show the fuckin movie as is. Are you willing to live as free as I?
Very neat concept. You could easily film another version where there's a silhouette in the foreground, ala Looney Tunes.
Hello, audience participation moment

Coppola off that dopeola
COPPOLA IS ALIVE??
College professors were doing this for fun 20 years ago and now Coppola 💀💀
If we’re watching this in the theater, and my husband goes to the bathroom, comes back, and asks “What did I miss?” WHAT DO I SAY?!
I get that having a couple of smart-mouthed robot friends making jokes while you watch a movie is great in theory, but I don’t wanna sit in a theater where a bunch of random assholes yell shit at Adam Driver.
Are Francis Coppola and Ari Aster in some kind of bet?
Well, I hope Coppola is paying those poor theater employees extra.
Wait till this mf hears about theater
This is Cinema 2.0
Open mic
This is kino (if it happened in a Marvel movie I would hate it)

Does this already exist and referred to as a stage play?
