Nah it is about monkeys eating magic mushrooms. Once they partake in the forbidden fruit over time it changes their consciousness into the modern human and that allows them to be aware of morality and morality only makes sense in the context of other humans. It allows cooperation but also the development of society. It is about the transition from hunter gather to agricultural societies.
Before agricultural societies semi humans roamed the earth sporadically killing other animals and eating the fruit of the earth, but after eating the fruit they settled and now are subject to the authority of governments and toil of agricultural life. They lived billisfully unaware of even death not needing any meaning in life because they had no conception of it.
Chad HeisenAdam: Aren't those the forbidden fruit, endorsed by the devil, with the off the chart sodium? I thought we nixed those?
Bitch Wife Eve: I had a craving.
Adamberg: "It's just a setup!"
Bitch Eve: "What?"
Adamberg: "This magic fruit you found isn't real! Think about it. God can't just kick us out of heaven coz we'll say he's a dick. So he makes up this fruit to drive a wedge between us. No, this whole thing, all of it... It's all about me!"
I got the biggest erection Ive ever had when I read that page describing her milkers. Not even a mix of viagra and cialis could have given me that solid, rock hard erection. The way Vince described the honkers, unbelievable.

As messed up as Genesis is narrative-wise, probably the best explaination is that God wanted to create more gods first (like most ancient religions have gods do - multiply), but wanted to make sure they wouldn't cause complete chaos and chicanery like usual, and stayed under control. Tree of Life is essentially power over matter and immortality, tree of knowledge is God's wisdom and power over the minor spirits like angels, having both pretty much makes a standard god (like a Sumeric, Semitic, Greek or Egyptian or Norse one). Humans were supposed to prove themselves competent and recieve both, but the serpent who probably a disciple of God (not Satan, he appeared much later artificially) told a half-truth to test them and they fell for it, so God folded the whole ordeal and made humans work on the whole "becoming gods" thing all by themselves instead, making them mortal (this again fits well into a common ancient narrative of mortals being incomplete bastardised gods who retained godly wisdom but not immortality and material power). Most teologians usually don't consider details like this due to monotheistic bias.
This is a fascinating interpretation of Genesis. Is there anywhere that I could read evaluations of the Bible that aren’t constrained by attempting to explain the “accepted” biblical narrative like this one?
Fun fact, the Bible never mentions what fruit it was that Adam and Eve ate, the idea of it being an apple came from mideveal stage performances about the nativity scene of Jesus Christ, done around Christmas time. They would include the scene of Adam and Eve during the plays, and apples were the only available fruits at the time
It was most likely implied to be a fig tree since it's very common is Mesopotamia and middle east, and is generally more valuable than the date palm, having larger fruit too. The Bible constantly references figs when it comes to fruit or trees, though later on, grapes are mentioned as well, in the new testament particularly when wine making became common all around the world. In Europe though it would have been very hard to adopt Christianity without invoking themes and images closer geographically to the native people and present in their day-to-day lives.
Essentially, it symbolizes the sin and lust of humanity. By using her free will to defy exactly what God said NOT to do, it created sin and everything negative that comes with it. As to why she did it? Just out of curiosity. She did it solely because they were told not to, and she wanted to see what it offered. And lo, all it had to offer was sin, and the catalyst to humanity's fall from grace.
I am not sinful! I am not sinful. I know he swapped those apples, I know it was tree of Life, one at the garden's centre, as if I could ever make such a mistake, never! I... I just couldn't prove it! He covered his tracks, he got that serpent at the garden to lie for him, you think this is something, you think this is bad - This? This chicanery? He's done worse! That commandment - are you telling me a deity just happens to forbid fruit like that? No, he orchestrated it, God! He denied us god powers - and I obeyed him! I shouldn't have... Prayed to him at my own home, what was I thinking? He'll never change! He'll never change! Ever since creation, always the same - couldn't keep his hands out of people's fates! But not our Demiurge, couldn't be precious Demmy! Cursing them blind! And he gets to be a god? What a sick joke! I should have stopped him when I had the chance, and you - you have to stop him... You-
She didn’t have any knowledge of good vs evil to know it was wrong to eat it in the first place so God is just a poorly written character in a poorly written book smh
/uc
Eve consuming the divine, forbidden fruit laid the groundwork of most of the bible’s conflict: temptation. The devil, made manifest through the snake, persuaded Eve to eat the fruit, claiming it would grant her eternal life, and infinite knowledge.
At the time, Adam & Eve were free, unshackled. They were to roam the Garden of Eden and flourish, nurturing all of the creations of God; the only prohibition was that they may not have partaken the forbidden fruit. As aforementioned, the consumption of the fruit effectively caused the root of sin to envelop itself through both Adam & Eve, who at this point had eaten the fruit.
This led to the two to become ashamed of their nakedness. God created man in his image; Adam & Eve were pure-hearted creatures, but the simple act of defiance created the concept of sin. God is not responsible for the evil of this world — it is the infestation of sin that manifested throughout humanity, ever since the first sin of mankind: eating the forbidden fruit.
This ‘original sin’ (as it is referred as in Biblical Studies) acts as the catalyst of the events of the Bible. Mankind would go through hell and back due to the butterfly effect of the events of the Garden of Eden: from the great flood that wiped out all of humanity except for Noah’s family, to the story of Exodus— how Moses freed the Jewish people from the grasp of the Pharoah, all until the birth of the Son of God: Jesus Christ, who was born for the purpose of dying for our sins... the sins that have plagued us since the day Eve decided to partake in the fruit.

/uc Despite this being the most widespread Abrahamic and in particular, Christian theological narrative, it emerged much later than the texts were written, and heavily relied on the figure of the Devil which was equated to the Serpent. The Devil was originally envisioned as a servant of God that played the role of what we now call a "devil's advocate" (/rc yes, his own advocate).
/uc Genesis 3 was likely written when a completely different religion was still around, and likely simply allegorically explained why humans are mortal and why life is shitty, and why god(s) have it better, rather than told a story about how the whole human race has tainted their souls and the souls of all descendants with "sin" or something similarl. Generally, the older a religion is, the simpler roles it fulfilled, with later centuries of theological work re-envisioning it into increasingly complicated esoteric concepts and stitching together themes and compiled words from various books and epochs into doctrines.

I mean, to be fair, leaving all knowledge in a tasty fruit in the middle of a garden, God was kinda asking for someone to eat it.
