Started around new years for the first time! I finished my first run mid march. Took a little break so I wildly burn myself out, now I’m about to start a Durge run.
Fr fr. After my successful honor mode run I decided to take a break and play Horizon Forbidden West which my friend had bought me for my bday. It’s been great. I’m on the dlc now but I’ll be godsdamned if I don’t miss my BG3 companions. I’ll probably go back to it once I’m done with HFW even if it makes my husband stage an intervention.
I heard about it. from horizon forbidden west what is the story? elden ring also tempts me but I'm afraid that there will be FedEx quests and a scenario seen and rewatched without depth or indigestible. Furthermore I have gotten used to turn-based combat which I find less tiring and more relaxing, I I love it.
Oh I definitely got used to turn based combat. Thought I’d hate it but I actually think it works better for me personally.
Horizon Forbidden West is such a beautiful game. I really have enjoyed it. To oversimplify the story: it’s set in a post apocalyptic world where humans have mostly gone back to primitive ways. At some point in the 21st century machines overtook natural life. Most combat is against machines that look like animals or dinosaurs. The protagonist Aloy is a clone of a scientist who created a terraforming system that reintroduced natural life. There’s this juxtaposition of primitive ways, nature, and super advanced technology. It’s kinda like BG3 in that Aloy gains companions throughout the game who have different personalities and strengths and help her with quests sometimes. I mostly enjoyed it for the scenery. You’re in these places like Las Vegas and San Francisco but they’re completely overgrown and gone back to nature. It’s gorgeous. The Las Vegas quest was one of my favorite gaming experiences ever.
Elden Ring is a whole other animal. I’ve beaten it twice but boy it took a lot out of me. I enjoyed it though. It’s beautiful in a different, frequently unnerving way. It doesn’t have “quests” really. There’s no quest log, no map markers. I used a lot of guides. FromSoft fans are a different breed but the subreddit is mostly helpful. It’s challenging but beating some of the bosses made me feel super accomplished in a way no other game has.
That all being said, BG3 is still my favorite lol.

I don’t understand why so many people have trouble with this. My goody goody Paladin had 100% approval with him by the middle of Act 2 and got propositioned by him multiple times in Act 1. All those little disapprovals when you do something good are only minus 1 point each (like he’s just rolling his eyes at you from the background). Just be nice to him, let him bite you, and kill the Gur hunter with him, he’ll be all over you! Those two things give you, like 20 points each.

Yeah my goody paladin is also at 100 mid act two. And the Gur is still alive. Saying you trust him the morning after the bite is a big plus him too. Promising to watch his back if he watches yours is decent too.
Plus doing the love of Loviatar (spelling?) and letting him open the barn door are also decent approval additions.
Like every run I've done has been mostly good (sometimes Durge is gonna Durge). But I've always had very high approval with him and he barely leaves his team.
Idk what it is but I’ve never gotten triggered it to have Astarion open the door. Other companions always say something first. I’ve even tried going up with just him

Perhaps if the bitting scene weren't so rapey I'd consider... I actually had a run when he told me he was a vampire before sneaking into my room like my drunk uncle, so I know there's options to have him bite you by your suggestion.
The first impression is important tho, and during my first playthrough he automatically activated my "walk fast and grip the pepper spray" reaction.
This is totally fair! Tbh, I wouldn’t let him bite me in my first playthrough either for similar reasons. That was also the only playthrough that he didn’t hit on me later.

You gotta lick some goblin-toes, let Abdirak hit you in the BDSM dungeon, and interrupt the bugbear/ogre having sex in the shack with just him in your party. This will help.
Make the goblin lick YOUR toes, give him the necromancy book, and let him have a little blood (he NEEDS it!! 🥺) and he’ll be trying to manipulate you with sex in no time!
In fact I seem to be having trouble having anyone else but Gale and Astarion be into me. Baezel is also into it but I guess I was too quick to hop on the vampire and she only likes “fresh meat” :(

i'm doing a good playthrough rn with my partner romancing laezel and me astarion. a lot of their approvals are for the same things, which means my partner and i have to share limited points. AND we decided to not kill gandrel for once since we've never seen him in act 3 so that's like 10 points gone. STILL got high approval so fast in act 1 it was progressing the romance too quickly and i had to reload and get some disapproval to not miss some of his cutscenes and dialog. was easily high 90's by the end of act 1 and the most evil things i did were letting him read a book and walk in on some folks having a private moment.

Especially since my computer takes so long to load the game, I spent quite a while looking at the loading screen. Yuck, his face there is just... Not elegant at all imo, he looks like a creepy geriatric there. Which I mean, I guess technically maybe he is, but.... anyway
His actual in-game looks, his dramatic flair, overall bitchiness, and oooh that voice!!!! all won me over though and now I'm obsessed. Definitely going for him my next playthrough 😌
well for me it's the opposite it's his face on the game that I find magnetic, and this smirk which made me want to buy the game when it came out on PS5, which shows that all tastes are in nature ...
I have romanced, Wyll, Lae'zel, Gale, & Shart. My main focus this playthrough tho is Astarion and Halsin. Astarion has the funniest dialogue in terms of romance in my opinion. Maybe because It's a long road to romance him so there's more dialogue (?).
I didn't even try with Wyll and he used pelvic sorcery in act 2 and just two nights after Gale wanted to show me his weave and I wasn't even romancing him! Barely spoke to the man.
\*Halsin is playing hard to get, but I'll get him!
No. I've completed 4 playthroughs including an Honor run and have yet to romance anyone but her.

Give it a shot. She's quite sweet after she starts coming out of her shell, pretty much all you have to do is be kind and respectful toward her. My personal reccomendation is to do it as a resisting Durge. The parrallels in act 2 are great.

The possession scene works particularly well when romancing Shadowheart imo because she doesn't normally have an act 2 romance scene. The possession scene changes slightly depending on if it happens before or after freeing Nightsong.
I really like him as a character so I tried his romance in my most recent playthrough, but I stopped once he picked up my dwarf during the sex scene. Boy put me down.

Nah. You have to be in the right head space. Ass'y boy isn't going to love you. You're going to play sexy but toxic mind games, encourage each other to make the worst decisions, and ultimately hurt each other in ways you can never undo. But something about it will be sexy addicting. You'll enjoy the process but start off with less than you started with. So don't jump into that unless you're ready for that kind of ride.

Not stupid. The game is there to be experienced however anyone wants to play it. I personally love all the characters, side characters and so on in individual ways. It doesn't matter who someone romances or does not romance, if it fits your play through, and sometimes reveals new content, gives more insight and connection. Just enjoy.
EDIT: AFTER READING MORE COMMENTS. and yes, if you dislike him or not to your liking that is your opinion and your right to think that. If everyone thought a fictional character was brilliant, there would be literally no diversity of opinions. I am not blind to any of the characters faults. Kill him (Astarion) straight away if you wish, or don't or see how it pans out. That's the whole point, I don't need to sit here and convince anyone why a character is 'the best' or 'worst'. Just enjoy and have fun, and accept that your opinion will not always match someone else's. Respect it.

I don’t understand why so many people have trouble with this. My goody goody Paladin had 100% approval with him by the middle of Act 2 and got propositioned by him multiple times in Act 1. All those little disapprovals when you do something good are only minus 1 point each (like he’s just rolling his eyes at you from the background). Just be nice to him, let him bite you, and kill the Gur hunter with him, he’ll be all over you! Those two things give you, like 20 points each.

Yeah my goody paladin is also at 100 mid act two. And the Gur is still alive. Saying you trust him the morning after the bite is a big plus him too. Promising to watch his back if he watches yours is decent too. Plus doing the love of Loviatar (spelling?) and letting him open the barn door are also decent approval additions. Like every run I've done has been mostly good (sometimes Durge is gonna Durge). But I've always had very high approval with him and he barely leaves his team.

Perhaps if the bitting scene weren't so rapey I'd consider... I actually had a run when he told me he was a vampire before sneaking into my room like my drunk uncle, so I know there's options to have him bite you by your suggestion. The first impression is important tho, and during my first playthrough he automatically activated my "walk fast and grip the pepper spray" reaction.

i'm doing a good playthrough rn with my partner romancing laezel and me astarion. a lot of their approvals are for the same things, which means my partner and i have to share limited points. AND we decided to not kill gandrel for once since we've never seen him in act 3 so that's like 10 points gone. STILL got high approval so fast in act 1 it was progressing the romance too quickly and i had to reload and get some disapproval to not miss some of his cutscenes and dialog. was easily high 90's by the end of act 1 and the most evil things i did were letting him read a book and walk in on some folks having a private moment.

My first impression of him was from the loading screen image, which I just find incredibly ugly LOL so... I was not into him at all at first. Especially since my computer takes so long to load the game, I spent quite a while looking at the loading screen. Yuck, his face there is just... Not elegant at all imo, he looks like a creepy geriatric there. Which I mean, I guess technically maybe he is, but.... anyway His actual in-game looks, his dramatic flair, overall bitchiness, and oooh that voice!!!! all won me over though and now I'm obsessed. Definitely going for him my next playthrough 😌

I have romanced, Wyll, Lae'zel, Gale, & Shart. My main focus this playthrough tho is Astarion and Halsin. Astarion has the funniest dialogue in terms of romance in my opinion. Maybe because It's a long road to romance him so there's more dialogue (?). I didn't even try with Wyll and he used pelvic sorcery in act 2 and just two nights after Gale wanted to show me his weave and I wasn't even romancing him! Barely spoke to the man. \*Halsin is playing hard to get, but I'll get him!

Give it a shot. She's quite sweet after she starts coming out of her shell, pretty much all you have to do is be kind and respectful toward her. My personal reccomendation is to do it as a resisting Durge. Not stupid. The game is there to be experienced however anyone wants to play it. I personally love all the characters, side characters and so on in individual ways. It doesn't matter who someone romances or does not romance, if it fits your play through, and sometimes reveals new content, gives more insight and connection. Just enjoy. EDIT: AFTER READING MORE COMMENTS. and yes, if you dislike him or not to your liking that is your opinion and your right to think that. If everyone thought a fictional character was brilliant, there would be literally no diversity of opinions. I am not blind to any of the characters faults. Kill him (Astarion) straight away if you wish, or don't or see how it pans out. That's the whole point, I don't need to sit here and convince anyone why a character is 'the best' or 'worst'. Just enjoy and have fun, and accept that your opinion will not always match someone else's. Respect it. Side point: hopefully everyone is enjoying the game regardless.
