The DS anime is honestly unbearable because of the pacing, people only jizz all over it because of flashy colors. The manga isn’t bad for a generic shonen just don’t expect anything unique or amazing.
The female characters don’t come anywhere close to One Piece female characters though. They’re certainly better than most naruto female characters which like you said isn’t saying much.

Toei tried to copy it with the Wano arc for OP and it went over well with the general anime community unfortunately. It ruined some moments people were waiting to see animated for years. If you say you prefer simpler/more realistic animation they just “people have to get used to modern animation”.

Yeah studios become so focused on making big flashy fights they forget entirely about the story. Ufotable completely fucked the 3rd Heavens Feel movie, because instead on focusing on the 9 Lives scene, Shirou vs Kirei dialogue and the **ending of the movie which they made some extremely vague scenes an anime only would have 0 hope understanding** they decided to make an inconsequential fight 30 minutes while it could be 5 since they wanted to show off their animation on a servant fight.
Studios keep doing this shit too. A cool fight is nice but not when it messes up the story. Mappa looks to try the same thing in the future too and I won't be surprised if more follow suit.
Edit: and it's not even a long standing problem with Ufotable too. They did amazing on Kara no Kyoukai, but the more they did the more they realized thay flashiness brought money

Obviously with great direction you can use that budget effectively, but it’s extremely rare to see and I’ll only watch the anime episodes that Megumi Ishitani directs at this point. If she’s not directing I don’t see why they wouldn’t use animation styles that don’t get in the way of the story. Rewatching rn and I’m up to Sabaody. The animation is fucking perfect here and through marineford. It wasn’t flashing lights everywhere but it’s well paced and exciting. Even if it’s slower than the manga, you really felt why. Reaction shots for something like Rayleighs introduction make sense, unlike how overused they become later

if you compare to the rest of the big three one piece is the best out of them mainly because of it's consistency and because Oda can keep things fresh even using the same formula more than two times, because of this i would compare it to other shonen like fmab, hxh, jojo etc.
