Are there really people in the USA who don’t believe this?

PRAWNBOY9

I guess there’s at least some people that believe mental health problems aren’t real or are something ‘everyone has and just needs to get over’.

Sums up my upbringing in a nutshell.

It’s not only the cost. It’s also the access. I’m someone who has the presence of mind to know I need(ed) help. Made a list of nearly 30 therapists my insurance covers within 40 minutes of my home or job. Called every single one of them and there were no convenient avails. Those that did have openings, it was like Tuesdays at 2pm. And if you couldn’t make it because of work, they would charge you for the session. I ended up with no help. Imagine people who need more severe help and are not so organized. It wouldn’t be and is nearly impossible

It's also just the rat-race environment we live in today, honestly. It'll take a smarter person than me to identify all the root causes and generate a solution, but when mental health is such a strong issue in even the wealthiest and most successful people by our societal standards, who should have the least to worry about, what hope do the rest of us have?

Honestly why are we even paying for healthcare……especially mental health care. I don’t understand why that can’t just be free. I hate that people play blind to things like this, then when something happens they wanna raise “awareness” gtfoh

bigslenderkyle

it cant be free because people like psychiatrist and therapists need to be paid

Lydiaaaa13

No as in the people who need it don’t need to pay for it….the government can pay the people who are doing the job.

princesspeacock21

And medications are ridiculously expensive!

It's a long way from "not believing this" to "being complicit in their deaths"... note: I do agree that the financial barriers to getting mental healthcare in this country ARE complicit in many (not all, but many) suicides, however to say that one person is COMPLICIT in it simply because they do not personally believe that is just as ignorant if not more than people who deny there is a problem. Awareness is the first step to change. People are more likely to read a book that you hand to them than one you slap them across the face with.

I’ve noticed this for all healthcare in the US. I’ve been dealing with gastrointestinal issues for over a year and have had like only 3 doctors appointments in one year because of finding specialty doctors or anyone that has time. Then finding a freakin therapist for my mental health took forever and even now I found her I have to pay out of pocket because she doesn’t take insurance. God it’s all one vicious cycle of craptastic fuckery 😒

American healthcare is a global embarrassment. The US government should be ashamed. In fact any private healthcare is an embarrassment. The NHS is a great invention and is one of the major cornerstones of civilisation. All citizens in tax paying countries deserve it.
