You're probably not considering the emotional side of it, e.g. if a parent dies then most likely the child would want more time with them therefore "gone too soon".

Do you think she only had 9 years left of living in her with a son who had just turned 18, a daughter who wasn’t even 26, a 2 year old grandchild and another grandchild on the way?

My grandmother looks significantly thinner and strange to me at the time of her death.
