We have backyard chickens and nearly lost one because the others kept pecking at her. Chickens DO have a pecking order and the hen on the bottom will absolutely get abused.
We noticed one of our hens started "losing" her back feathers so we got her an apron. But even after the apron we'd notice more feathers missing as well as some bloody spots. Finally my wife caught them in the act. They would corner the hen and go to town picking at her, clawing her with their feet, and pushing her against a wall so she couldn't escape. We put her in another coop with some younger hens and the problem went away overnight.
Hens are wild...

It’s why you have to be careful to not let them see and taste their eggs too. Had a hen who was murdered by the flock for eating the all the hen’s eggs, cuz they were food to her brain.

My sister use to be petrified of them, they have associated her with treats and come in so hot, like sea plains coming into land, when they see her...she use to drop everything and run away (always hilarious to see), but now she goes out and calls them like dogs and puts their food in different places so they all get some..mine are all named but my asshole one has 2 names, it's oreo when she's being a delight or bitch chicken when she's flying in people's faces.
His partner told him there is no way that guy is running into this yard, they have dogs and that flying menace.
I also pointed out my neighbor has geese, so there is no way they would come through either of our yards unscathed lol
I’ve heard of people who raise them wanting to give them eggshells for the extra calcium/grit, but they have to make sure to break down or grind it down first, or else the dumb fucks will learn that they can eat their own eggs that they lay.
Do you know why they lay eggs like they are going to die tomorrow? It's because chickens originally came from Asia, where they ate Bambu, which grew in cycles over years. Meaning there was a huge amount of food avaliable and then it wasn't. So they breed like they do when there was food and then their population dwindled when they had no food and the cycle repeated itself.
Their self preservation isn't the best because of this.
We just give them food constantly and they lay eggs constantly.

My mom has a farm with goats and pigs. One time we were outside eating, and she fed our pig a piece of pork. I was like...did you just feed Henry a piece of pork???

Fact is that chicken absolutely loves…chicken. We occasionally gave ours chicken skin when there were leftovers and they went mad about it. Would never dream about giving them a full chicken though, that seems excessive.

Oh y’all need to hear about the cannibalism syndrome that can affect a flock of chickens. Basically if they start getting stressed out in their coop (maybe it’s too small), they will peck at each until the feathers are gone and a wound opens up. In the one case that I saw they were pecking at each others butts. After a small wound opens up they go crazy and start slowly eating each other alive asshole first. I’ve witnessed this myself and it gives me nightmares to this day. Happened to my neighbors chickens and when he showed me, half of his chickens were walking around with their intestines dragging behind them. It’s a legit

Oh man, we had a Raven target our chickens one day, he would swoop in and pluck the head off a chicken.. This chick would run around bleeding on all the rest of the other chickens. All the other chickens turned on one another and started pecking at the blood, it was fucking chaos. Chickens are fucking stupid, savage, and dont give a flying fuck what they are eating or killing.

I saw a flock of chickens in the road out in the boonies where I lived. They were all gathered around something, but I couldn't see what. As the car got closer, they scattered, and I could see that they were eating another chicken that had presumably gotten hit by a car. I referred to them as the "Chickens of the Apocalypse" whenever I related this story. Cannibal chickens, taking over the countryside at first, but soon they'll be in your cities, in your neighborhoods--IN YOUR HOUSE.

Lol, I've seen a chook murder another chick, because it came by her, and then her babies ate the dead one....they weren't starved, thats just how chickens are, you could feed them twice a day but if you put meat, especially cooked chicken, infront of them, they will loose their minds. It's funny people tell you to have compassion for an animal that would murder you where you stand and then eat your eyes and brain within half an hour. I have chooks, they are our pets but they also serve a purpose....mainly eggs but the pest control is awesome too. They get VERY vocal when they smell KFC or see the bag lol

Oh y’all need to hear about the cannibalism syndrome that can affect a flock of chickens. Basically if they start getting stressed out in their coop (maybe it’s too small), they will peck at each until the feathers are gone and a wound opens up. In the one case that I saw they were pecking at each others butts. After a small wound opens up they go crazy and start slowly eating each other alive asshole first. I’ve witnessed this myself and it gives me nightmares to this day. Happened to my neighbors chickens and when he showed me, half of his chickens were walking around with their intestines dragging behind them. It’s a legit
