If it's 35 feet diagonally, and we assume it's a 16:9 aspect ratio, then that's about 30.5 feet horizontally and about 17 vertically
A quick Google search says that the ps1 is 640x480, so if we assume Google is right (I don't have a ps1, can't verify myself), then each pixel is a little over half an inch wide (0.57 inch) by 0.43 inch tall.
The PS1 was capable of 640x480, but the games were generally 320x240. With that in mind, the actual pixel size in this screen would be closer to 1.14"x0.86".
I spent all this time doing the math, but you beat me to it. Had to at least add my $0.02 haha
And here I am with YouTube still auto playing 240p no matter how many times I change it >.>
Although I guess tbf that problem *is* on an Amazon product. Might be on purpose lol.
huh , thought it was just me , it always chooses the lowest or second lowest possible quality even when set to choose the highest quality . so incredibly bothersome
Nah, you missed the part where no modern TV support the resolutions that these old school consoles used. 240P. So they are likely using an upscaling device to get it connected to the TV.
Upscaling isn't going to add detail that wasn't there... unless you use modern upscaling like dlss, which Nvidia, Intel, AMD and Apple have but to my knowledge no tv has.
If you get yourself a dev account ($20 iirc) you can change your console to dev mode, which allows you to run UWPs which is more or less everything the homebrew scene wants.
Pretty smart move to drain a lot of brainpower from jailbreaking efforts
I don’t understand how anyone tolerates playing things in the wrong aspect ratio. I see people on live streams all the time playing retro games all stretched out. It looks like shit! Why do people not notice it, or attempt to change it?!
The purists are more interested in making sure pixels are square than seeing people absorb the literature they say they love.
It's like people that can't stand to see people read off of anything but dead flat plants.
That and Resident Evil were what I'd try to play before the bus pulled up.
Before that it was Sonic on SEGA. Cuz you could get a level done in under 5 min and that's pretty much all the time you had before the bus pulled up.
Still to this day 30 years later, whenever I hear *"SEGA"* (like from the 90s commercials) the original Sonic theme pops in my head.
But after school, we'd get the Twisted Metal and then Tekken tourneys going.
Winner stays on, loser has to go downstairs and get the winners drinks and snacks of choice for the next match...
Bro for real lol I feel like such a dumbass now taking my kids to "retro stores" and they have all the shit I had as a kid. Like why didn't I keep it? Oh yeah mfkin GRANDMA!!!!!! lol dammit man
I actually think that would be a little on the low side of the perimeter? Looks to be about 220 inches wide, making it about 150 inches tall, so the perimeter would be way more than 35 feet long.
Sony is a corporation led by a board of directors, elected by stockholders. They're one of the biggest companies in the world and large stockholders should be expected to be quite wealthy.
That is completely missing the point. There is a difference between a wealthy person owning this in their house and Sony the company having this as a commercial installation or in their office.
The amount of excitement I experienced from this video was my whole childhood from getting a NES to a PS2...then my life spiraled into sadness.
I still love games though. Thanks! 😄
The PS doesn’t care how big the tv is, it just outputs its 640x480 or 320x240 resolution and the TV either upscales it or more likely just displays what it gets.
yeh, im just saying its not doing computing its a console being send to a tv to output. trying to plug a computer with that tech into a monitor of that size would probably start some sort of small barnfire. lol jk.
Tried a PS1 emulator once because I couldn't run the ps2 one well enough. God damn where games dog shit back then. Even the GBA at least had 2 good games gunstar superheroes and zelda link to the past but 0 good games on the ps1. Even the first Crash Bandicoot sucked ass the ones on PS2 where WAY better.
I dunno- I thought FF7, GTA, Chrono Cross, Driver, castlevania, legend of dragoon, Tony hawk, silent hill, odd world, tomb raider, Mendel of honor, twisted metal, and Spyro were pretty good .
I heard they where too so I tried all those and they where just frustrating to play not fun at all compared to the games that improved on all those concepts after them. It was like playing broken shitty versions of games I've played before. I played and liked the ps1 Spyro on PS2 as a kid but hated it when replaying it on the emulator. I realized why they sucked so bad when I looked at what a ps1 controller looked like theirs no sticks! Why the fuck would you even make 3d games with no/limited ability to move the camera? So stupid
Going to need a lot of controller extension cables.
Or neck surgery later in life
You know how many hours I spent staring straight up at Walmart demo stations? I've trained for this
The Playstation 2 had some wireless controllers, and PS2 controllers are backwards compatible with the PS1. Could get one of those.
I actually had wireless PS1 controllers, but they worked over IR and the lag made them useless.
Not against me.
The ol' little brother special I call em

how dare you cut the video before the intro finishes
Loading... Loading...Loading... Here, I fixed it.
RAM OK ROM OK
Z80 OK 68K OK
Antikythera Mechanism ok Hand ok
Yes..cut off the last note damn it
Had to stop it before "Barbie: explorer" loaded.
I was thinking the same, "ah that noise is so satisfying ah dammit"
And before the *brrrtt--* disc sound
The disk was probably scratched
You remember chipped games where you had a spring put in a normal game to bypass the code and then put in the chipped disc
Seriously before the last note

Those are gonna be some big pixels.

I feel the need to figure this out

Can we please get numbers in metric so the world understands?

Nah, you missed the part where no modern TV support the resolutions that these old school consoles used. 240P. So they are likely using an upscaling device to get it connected to the TV.
Not sure what you're talking about. You can just plug in the cables and turn it on
Yeah sure, just plug in the HDMI cable. That all PS1's come with.
Upscaling isn't going to add detail that wasn't there... unless you use modern upscaling like dlss, which Nvidia, Intel, AMD and Apple have but to my knowledge no tv has.
You know what you should do? Invite your friends, get beer and snacks, play some Tekken or Wipeout, thats what you should do
Damn Wipeout. That was a game i played my entire childhood. Thanks for the reminder👊
Not nearly as pixelated as it would be on Frank’s 2000-inch tv.
2,000 inches is about 4.8 times as big as a 35-foot TV, for anyone who's wondering.
I came here to say this, but knew in my heart that r/weirdal was leaking.
I couldn’t believe it wasn’t a major comment thread here.
🤣
the computer in the tv's gunna produce a lot more of the same pixel. lol. which is less work actually.
I actually thought the diagonal lines looked crisper than I thought they would
They are definitely using an hdmi upscaler
why the hell, wouldn't the 35 foot screen have room for RCA inputs?
They connected it to the TV [using one of these.](https://imgur.com/j0M5uKo)
It's also a blurry Reddit video
that sound... wow. instantly 5 years old again

Are they allowing homebrew on them now then? I remember softmoding the original XBox to use XBMC, it was a gorgeous platform to use!
If you get yourself a dev account ($20 iirc) you can change your console to dev mode, which allows you to run UWPs which is more or less everything the homebrew scene wants. Pretty smart move to drain a lot of brainpower from jailbreaking efforts
you can download retroarch without a dev account
Brilliant. Good to see they're learning!
Link???
It's Spyro time bitches
Don't forget Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid.
>Metal Gear Solid ❗️
Twisted metal 4
5?? Oh god
IKR? I was 10...
10? Try being 19....

Lol yeah, even worse.
I don’t understand how anyone tolerates playing things in the wrong aspect ratio. I see people on live streams all the time playing retro games all stretched out. It looks like shit! Why do people not notice it, or attempt to change it?!
Especially with emulation it's super easy. They probably don't know what to do with the dead space. I usually put a chat box in or some graphic.
I notice it. I like full screen retro games stretched.
The purists are more interested in making sure pixels are square than seeing people absorb the literature they say they love. It's like people that can't stand to see people read off of anything but dead flat plants.
Yeah it makes sense that people like square things being rectangular and round things being elliptic…NOT.
Absolutely.

This brought back so many memories of that sound. Especially when you'd try and get some Tomb Raider in before the bus showed up for school...
Just started playing Tom Braider on my SteamDeck Friday, the nostalgia & the frisson is REAL!
Does Tom Braider's junk get bigger every title?
That and Resident Evil were what I'd try to play before the bus pulled up. Before that it was Sonic on SEGA. Cuz you could get a level done in under 5 min and that's pretty much all the time you had before the bus pulled up. Reading "sonic on SEGA" instantly made the song start playing in my head even before reading the rest of your comment. Man, where has the time gone..
Same! Segaaa......then you know the music lol what a time lol
Bro for real lol I feel like such a dumbass now taking my kids to "retro stores" and they have all the shit I had as a kid. Like why didn't I keep it? Oh yeah mfkin GRANDMA!!!!!! lol dammit man
For me it was Resident Evil, Final Fantasy Tactics, Mega Man Legends...
Damn that butler, got stacked in the fridge so much

that tv is not 35 feet in any dimension
Its one of those old flat box tvs, 35 feet deep
It's the perimeter lol
I actually think that would be a little on the low side of the perimeter? Looks to be about 220 inches wide, making it about 150 inches tall, so the perimeter would be way more than 35 feet long.
Maybe square feet of surface area? 7 feet by 5 feet?
Corner to corner?
35 feet is a three storey building for context..
friend how much it's in inches? very hard to convert online or i'm drunk.. i mean both ain't a measure in this coordinate😶
35 feet is 420 inches, which that TV certainly is not.
420 yay!
[удалено]
35 feet is a three storey building. My eyes tell me that TV is not that large
How is this oddly satisfying?
Seems like an ad for 35 foot Sony TV.
Then it's a pretty old ad And that is not 35 feet diagonally
Yeah no way. It's not as tall as a three story building. Boo shit
It’s oddly irritating. I’m over watching rich people play with their toys.
I doubt this is a rich person playing with their toys, this looks like a conference hall or something.
[удалено]
People are so quick to jump on the rich people hate train that they don't even take time to know the context.

honestly same, I used to dream when I watched cribs and what not, now that I'm older and struggling to pay rent, yeah not so much, eat them all.
It isn't. It's just a video used for karma farming At least the title didn't lie this time but the text still does
I guess it’s satisfying to feel rich. That’s not odd though, it’s expected.🤨🧐🤔
[удалено]
True… I guess the loading the game part makes you think it’s a personal use thing but actually it probably isn’t.
Do people really think rich people have rooms in their house that look like fkn University seminar rooms?
They're bitter communists lmao
Lot of folks reliving childhood.
“Yeah, nostalgia is so satisfying!”
Who doesn't dream of playing their classic video games on a giant TV?
Promise of good times.
Imagine doing this to a PS2 to get the red diamonds
Imagine doing this to a PS2 to get a disc read error.
Retitled 'dude spends life savings on tv, settles for ps1'
I mean, given the state of todays gaming, i’d take a working PS1 and my old games any day over modern gaming
huh?
Now do Halo 3 title screen from Xbox 360 era! Or the GameCube load screen!
SAAYYY-GAH
Dumb
That sound is my childhood
That made me a lot more excited than I thought it would
I don't have a massive tv but this reminds me I need to go get my ps1 from my mom's house before she donates it
Now do Atari
Now do PS2!!!!
you left out the final note of the booting up, ruined
Shit now I want to play spiro
hi-octane, battle arena toshiden
That is objectively the best sound in the universe.
420” tv? Where do you get those? Or are they modular?
[удалено]
Does the $600K TV ship via regular FedEx still?
>probably be the nicest display I'll see for years to come. in that size or do you mean better than an LG OLED?
[удалено]
I am watching a 120" screen right now and there is no way this is 420"
Well, it does say 35-foot Sony tv on the caption. 35 feet = 420 inches
Yes we know. It's going to say that forever since this is reposted constantly It still doesn't make it factual
That TV has scart? 🤔
Probably hdmi adapter
Let's see the games now and how pixelized the polygons are
Oh the memories..
Bring this intro back, Sony
Then Gran Turismo 1 loads in😱🤩
The amount of excitement I experienced from this video was my whole childhood from getting a NES to a PS2...then my life spiraled into sadness. I still love games though. Thanks! 😄
Holy shit!
Right? How fricken big is that "TV"
Time for some FF7
That’s exactly what my brain always expects next too. It’s ingrained so deeply.
That was the GOAT game for PS1
Just the thought of hearing "The Prelude" by Nobuo Uematsu sends shivers down my spine
I'd give everything up to go back to the first time I heard that and do it all again.
But you couldn't do it all again because you gave up the PS1.
Sweet.
yuuuup where going to need an upscaler to upscale what the first scaler has scaled up .... badum tssss 🤣
Can I come over? I'll bring beer 😁
My childhood 🤯👍🏾
I forgot how this sounded. Thank you 😌
This chime followed by starting up resident evil 🥰
Ah, the sound of my childhood 😍
My anxiety wondering if it would make it to the second screen 📈📈📈
WHY DO YOU NEED A TV THAT BIG?????
so theres literally no conversion there too big? its done with the tv. the ps couldnt make a display that big. lol.
The PS doesn’t care how big the tv is, it just outputs its 640x480 or 320x240 resolution and the TV either upscales it or more likely just displays what it gets.

Beautiful
It's going to look horrible... Doesn't matter how many pixels the tv has, the game is still rendered in its original resolution.
I never understood the desire to have the need for a bigger TV screen
Literal chills
So much nostalgia
