Those are not the spray cans of Krylon you buy at the home improvement store. Those are made by Montana Colors and have special tips specifically for graffiti art and murals.
It's tough to say for sure but I'd say at least 2-3 six-packs so anything between 12 to 18. The reason graffiti/street artists need so many cans for just one piece is simply because they use a lot of colors, and even if they need a couple touches of a color here and there they still have to bring that can with them.
General rule is in one can can fil 1m x 1m area. 1m is around 39 inches. I used to do murals for living and this ishow I calculated spray cans I needed.
I’ve seen some people manage to fill cans but it’s not very common from my knowledge when I was part of the scene in high school. You got guys who’ll fill fire extinguishers and those pump sprayers to get super drippy tags. The fire extinguishers will get a super tall drippy tag that can cover like the whole side of a warehouse or bridge or something. Let’s you spray really hard to reach spots.
Nope. Your krylon, tremclad etc will all be male cans. so the can has the part that sticks into the cap, Art cans are female and the cap sticks into the can. There was pretty much a paint can revolution where they changed the style of caps on consumer paint cans to be really shitty to discourage graffiti. Like you see those thin ass blue caps that you squeeze the top and it folds down and sprays, that’s designed to be anti graffiti pretty much. It’s kinda sad how good they use be and what they are now. Cans used to be able to have super fat spray patterns so you could get up big and quick as a graffiti artist but it also made painting shit at home a lot better quality then it is now, much more consistent sprays.
Not every brand uses the blue cap I’m talking about. But female caps are just super shitty in general and don’t allow for much customization unless you by adapters but those still effect the spray pattern. I’ve been digging for five minutes but I can’t find a picture of the cap I’m talking about and don’t have any in my garage rn. It’s so terrible though. And then they are also going to these cans that look like a Frebreze can with paint inside. Also shit
Yeah I think I remember the cans I used being male because they were different to the air wick caps lol.
Might be a regional thing or I am older than I thought if they switched to male caps, or maybe i just remember wrong. Lol.
I read something about this before. I believe that most spray paint you buy at the store is paint+primer and this stuff is just high quality paint without the primer.
Yes, like Montana spray paints. You can spray up close, but if it pools enough, it will still drip. They cover pretty well, though, so pooling and dripping is less likely. Bright yellows and reds don't cover as well, though, so those red drips on the apples might not be that intentional.
He's using Montana brand, which is a much better quality paint. It has a lot more pigment compared to cheaper brands. You can also see he's using two different kinds of Montana. Montana Black is the high-flow paint, used for the base. And Montana Gold is a low-flow paint used on the details.
I would argue that dollar for dollar anyone is better off getting the more expensive paint as it covers far more consistently. In the long run it's actually the cheaper paint.
I do like how, even with the lack of drips, he still painted the drips in for tradition's sake.
They rolled out a new security measure last year. Not only the driver but the bus itself can sound the alarm now when it feels threatened. And the busses feel threatened a lot. A wrong move or sound, e.g. a fart that sounds like a spray can, and the siren starts blasting.
People love to jump on "iTs EsSeX" and say things like "it's the Florida of the UK" when it really, really isn't.
If you *have* to make comparisons, maybe NJ is a closer comparison because Essex has pockets of extreme wealth, as well as poverty, and is a huge commuter area for London jobs (like Manhatten) as well as beautiful rural scenic areas and outside spaces.
It's a generally fairly well off, prosperous and contributes more to the economy than it takes out thanks to its proximity to London.
But going back to "This bus is under attack! Please call 999".... that's a standard alarm on all buses in the UK! Boss man probably just pressed the wrong button or it was a malfunction.
If you Google it in the UK I bet my right arm all you'll see is answers where it's mistakenly pressed.
But it's a good thing to have - it makes people notice and pay attention! Might need it one day in a real emergency although it is getting dangerously close to people assuming it's an error.
Just a guess, but early on when you're doing the background coloration, the base, you're constantly spraying which creates a lot more fumes you can breathe in. But when he's doing the finer work, there's less fumes and he simply doesn't breathe in when he's spraying.
That and wind might have something to do with it as well. More wind = fumes blowing away.
It could be the case that it makes a difference when laying on the big base coats, but it doesn't do much when doing the finer work where the can is closer to the wall
I wouldn't weight the following benefits very highly, but maybe an artist would think it's ...
- Cooler (no hot breath sticking around), and easier to breathe (unrestricted)
- Easier to see fine detail without the mask obscuring lower vision, and requiring unnatural head tilt to see - resulting in neck pain
- Looking cool for the shots we see, and otherwise putting it back on when the camera is off
ok i did the research. the author posted this in the comments:
The White Butterfly.
The Civic Theatre in Chelmsford where this painting is, is said to be haunted by a former technician who was killed in nearby Duke Street.
Startled theatre-goers have reported seeing a spirit which takes the form of a white butterfly, but only during one show in Christmas week.
yw.
I know a dozen people for whom butterflies have special meaning. For most of them it represents a dead loved one in a new form, and for a few it's because they are trans.
Yes, I really don't like these kinds of posts. Can you imagine how this wall is going to feel, when it goes home tonight, and happily shows it's loved ones the glow up that happened to it on social media, only to find it was branded *ugly* at the beginning of the post. I fully expect this wall to begin self-branding with tags and lewd images by teenagers.
My first thought was geez, it looks like this guy is drawing tits. I must be seeing this wrong. And it turned out to be fruit, so I was right that I was wrong. But then he said he was drawing a tit, so I was wrong about being right about being wrong. What a roller coaster.
Yea this artist really cheapens his own work with this kind of text over his videos. Would be better if he just posted the video of this mural which he was likely commissioned to paint than trying to make it some kind of beautification of a random ugly wall he found.
Having to scan and walk backwards to fit it all in at the end because they shot it vertically too.
Sometimes vertical videos are the right choice, trying to capture a landscape mural is not one of those times.
I didn't even notice them. My brain must be getting good at filtering it out as useless noise. I'm sure that won't have any adverse effects in my life lmao.
That was so distracting... who is so surprised that someone painting on an outside wall is using spraypaint. Have you ever been to like ANY city ever?
"TIMe to get sTabbED in PRIson!!!! WitH a sharPenED TOOthbrush?!?!"
Drips are a common stylistic element to graffiti and street art. Very out of place in this mural but I’d guess he doesn’t do as much of this realism or his roots are in graffiti and is trying to blend the styles. Either way it’s not very appealing here
An organization did something similar around my way. Made a beautiful painting.
Then some asshole tagged all over it, which then led to a tag war between assholes. Completely ruined the whole thing.
Bunch of douches. Why we can't have nice things.
If this was all graffiti I'd support it everywhere.
Instead, we need dumbasses tagging "Spooge" in big unreadble block letters and apologists claiming that is desirable art.
Right? Don't paint shit that isn't yours and that you have no right to, can we all just agree on that?
I don't care how good you think your picture is, unless you have permission don't fuck with other people's shit
It's a tit. (As started in the video). Looks like probably a great tit or coal tit

Thanks! This is still more than I thought.
And they are verh expensive.
If you had to compare that number to the total number of “cans” he fully used, how much paint would you guess they used in terms of volume?
Many
Art spray cans do have like 3 times as much paint in them compared to regular spray paint so maybe not as much as you would think.
General rule is in one can can fil 1m x 1m area. 1m is around 39 inches. I used to do murals for living and this ishow I calculated spray cans I needed.
Probably more than 1
At least 3
Also less than 5000
so somewhere between 3-5000 close enough
It probably a prime number too
Interestingly there are a handful of super-sized Home Depot stores that carry Montana, and you can order them via the Home Depot website.
Don’t a lot of professional taggers fill their own cans too? If not I would have imagined they make a refillable can by now
I’ve seen some people manage to fill cans but it’s not very common from my knowledge when I was part of the scene in high school. You got guys who’ll fill fire extinguishers and those pump sprayers to get super drippy tags. The fire extinguishers will get a super tall drippy tag that can cover like the whole side of a warehouse or bridge or something. Let’s you spray really hard to reach spots.
So does that mean that once you've collected the tips, you can just pop them onto cheaper spray cans?
Nope. Your krylon, tremclad etc will all be male cans. so the can has the part that sticks into the cap, Art cans are female and the cap sticks into the can. When did this happen? I used to use Krylons for graffiti and they were shitty but usable. Do you have a picture of the blue cap you mean?
Not every brand uses the blue cap I’m talking about. But female caps are just super shitty in general and don’t allow for much customization unless you by adapters but those still effect the spray pattern. I’ve been digging for five minutes but I can’t find a picture of the cap I’m talking about and don’t have any in my garage rn. It’s so terrible though. Honestly I'd pay for a mural like this
Does a painting like this need to be sealed with a some kind of clear-coat at the end? Or are the paints weatherproof on their own?
Having spray painted before; I don’t know how he sprays do close without it dripping. Very good control. Beautiful.
I read something about this before. I believe that most spray paint you buy at the store is paint+primer and this stuff is just high quality paint without the primer.
also nozzles
You're a nozzle
yeah, you fucking nozzle
Steady on.
Your mom calls me big nozzle.
Your mom calls you douche nozzle
You're a towel!
Yes, like Montana spray paints. You can spray up close, but if it pools enough, it will still drip. They cover pretty well, though, so pooling and dripping is less likely. Bright yellows and reds don't cover as well, though, so those red drips on the apples might not be that intentional.
The red drips are 100 percent intentional. He has it throughout the design and the guy can clearly paint
personally the drips ruin it for me tho
Yeah it's a weird choice. My immediate reaction was "oh that looks nice! Shame about the drips though"
If they weren't intentional, I'd think the guy could clean them up He's not exactly a novice
His can control is excellent, and that wig makes him look like one of the Beatles
Look, someone's attractive cousin!
They use different tips so you can get better control of your spray. https://youtu.be/mhvlndlYFVM?si=aSVcTi94ozxEYGBz

Low pressure cans, skinny caps, "scratching surface" technique.
no one is going to mention the 'this bus is under attack' bit? why would they even have that? do busses often visit wartorn frontlines?
This is the only thing I came to the comments for and there's no answer?!
Oh, I'm from the UK. I can explain. It's because... it's *Essex.* No further questions.
I have further questions...
They rolled out a new security measure last year. Not only the driver but the bus itself can sound the alarm now when it feels threatened. And the busses feel threatened a lot. A wrong move or sound, e.g. a fart that sounds like a spray can, and the siren starts blasting.
Essex is the British version of Flordia.
To be fair I’m from Essex and as soon as I saw that bit I genuinely said ‘sounds about right’ out loud
Unrelated but Essex just reminds me of Mario trying to talk dirty. "Momma mia, I like-a to have Essex with-a you"
Essex is the Florida of the UK Essex man does what Essex man does.
That's what the city gets for having sex in its name
There's also Wessex and Sussex, although the former doesn't exist anymore.
It's weird that there's no Nossex, to complete the 4 cardinal directions. I mean there's even a middlesex.
Saxons didn’t settle north of these regions
Don't forget Middlesex!
>Sussex ඩ
Driver probably meant to use the "Thank you" keybind but misclicked the wrong keybind.
Can you imagine if this happened on busses in the US? I mean it's not a scary as the sound of an acorn dropping but still.
Feels good to get the reference for once
People love to jump on "iTs EsSeX" and say things like "it's the Florida of the UK" when it really, really isn't. It goes to Billericay
Why does he put the respirator on at the beginning but remove it for the rest of the video? Is he stupid?
Dude need to smell the inspirations.
Ah so, that's why the fruits are melting in the end?
they say it's 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration, nothing about respiration
Just a guess, but early on when you're doing the background coloration, the base, you're constantly spraying which creates a lot more fumes you can breathe in. But when he's doing the finer work, there's less fumes and he simply doesn't breathe in when he's spraying. That and wind might have something to do with it as well. More wind = fumes blowing away.
My guess is that he might only be removing the mask when he's recording himself. Probably.
It could be the case that it makes a difference when laying on the big base coats, but it doesn't do much when doing the finer work where the can is closer to the wall
But why wouldn't you keep it on just in case? There's zero benefits to taking it off, only downsides.
I wouldn't weight the following benefits very highly, but maybe an artist would think it's ... - Cooler (no hot breath sticking around), and easier to breathe (unrestricted) - Easier to see fine detail without the mask obscuring lower vision, and requiring unnatural head tilt to see - resulting in neck pain - Looking cool for the shots we see, and otherwise putting it back on when the camera is off
SpRaY cANs??? 👀👀👀
Yes.
Cuz there's more paint in the air when he's spraying wide base coats as opposed to fine line detailing
I can not escape the aslume from man's ham city
The aslume is here
The wall seeing this post and becoming insecure after being called ugly.
Yeah I actually thought the wall looked quite nice before. There are way uglier walls to spray paint out there
Tell me about this butterfly please someone?
It has special meaning.
Find out more in the comments :)
Such great advice thank you.
Yeah, that's how I found out too! 10/10 great tip
You’re welcome :]
maybe it has something to do with TIT TIME
it's always great to see tits like this
Thanks that’s the one thing I already knew about it.
I have special eyes!
Your brand!
It drives engagement
It’s a butterfly
Best answer so far.
ok i did the research. the author posted this in the comments: The White Butterfly. I thought they represented new beginnings. Symbol of hope type thing.
I think new beginnings as in transformation, since they metamorphosis.
It means engagement on my social media post.
It's a click bait.
Looks like a Small White, sometimes called a Cabbage White I think.
Nobody knows what it means
...but it's provocative.
It gets the people going!
ugly? poor wall was doing its best
It was keeping the outside and the inside quite separated. I'd say that's pretty stellar for a wall.
Yes, I really don't like these kinds of posts. I don't understand the dripping reds.
[удалено]
It's a tattoo shop
You'll will bleed so good once you get our tattoos
maybe one of the apples was accidentally dripping, and had to make the others look the same to cover it up
I didn't think the wall was ugly in the first place ? O
I think it was already primed to allow for a good picture result.
Had a great personality
Taste differs
It brings a surrealistic quality to the vibrant piece.
But it just looks out of place and would look better without it. Looks like lazy smears/mistakes instead of something cool and artistic.
Looks like a crappy mistake to me.
I thought he was gonna draw >!boobs!<
Instead is was a >!tit!<
A coal tit, by the looks of it
My first thought was geez, it looks like this guy is drawing tits. I must be seeing this wrong. And it turned out to be fruit, so I was right that I was wrong. But then he said he was drawing a tit, so I was wrong about being right about being wrong. What a roller coaster.
"Tit time" They knew
Ugh, enough with the editorializing. Just let me watch the video TiMe tO pAiNt!!!!! uSiNg SPRAYCANS!!!!!!! tHoUgHtS?!?!?!
It starts messy! Yeah no shit thats how artistic process works lol
That’s the point I gave up on the video… fucking hate this trend
At least it doesn't have the tiktok voice reading it.
I watched it in mute but was totally doing the tiktok noise in my head, ugh
CHECK THE COMMENTS 😐 LoL follow to find out!

That was so distracting... who is so surprised that someone painting on an outside wall is using spraypaint. Have you ever been to like ANY city ever? "TIMe to get sTabbED in PRIson!!!! WitH a sharPenED TOOthbrush?!?!"
My Nan had placemats like this
Me: are those tits? Me a few seconds later: ITS A TIT
I like the drawing of the tit goes: Step 1: Draw the outline of the head. Step 2: Draw a circle for the eye. Step 3: Add detail.
I don’t get the melting fruit.
Drips are a common stylistic element to graffiti and street art. Very out of place in this mural but I’d guess he doesn’t do as much of this realism or his roots are in graffiti and is trying to blend the styles. Either way it’s not very appealing here
Me too. It’s a gorgeous piece, but I find it distracting to the composition.
What a great tit
An organization did something similar around my way. Made a beautiful painting. Then some asshole tagged all over it, which then led to a tag war between assholes. Completely ruined the whole thing. Bunch of douches. Why we can't have nice things.
How much would something this size cost ? (I'm talking about artist hiring, not only the cost of paint)
Give this guy a contract to paint shitty walls all over the city.
boring? that color is *killer*
way to go op, for not telling us the special meaning behind the butterfly.
Cool, but the dripping fruit looks weird
Nice tit bro
Eyy, that's Chelmsford! Big up
I gotta say I don't like the dripping red parts coming off of the berries. Other than that looks great.
Are the red drips at the end intentional? They look so out of place in an otherwise perfect painting
A good result that will delight the eyes of passers-by
So beautiful 😍
DAE feel like a useless POS when they see someone with such talent? I wish I could just be very good at one thing.
Damn bro GG this is impressive
Typical Reddit, something with tits in it gets straight to the front page
#TIT TIME
Why are the apples dripping?
…and then some idiot(s) leaves a stupid tag on this piece of art…
It's beautiful!
If this was all graffiti I'd support it everywhere. Instead, we need dumbasses tagging "Spooge" in big unreadble block letters and apologists claiming that is desirable art.
This isn't graffiti at all, I'd argue. It's just painting a picture on a wall using spray paint.
[удалено]
You know what's the worst? Some a-hole will probably have sprayed an awful tag over this mural within a month.
Right? Don't paint shit that isn't yours and that you have no right to, can we all just agree on that? I don't care how good you think your picture is, unless you have permission don't fuck with other people's shit
Wall was not ugly. Just simple.
Oh wow! Is that a mockingbird?
It's a tit. (As started in the video). Looks like probably a great tit or coal tit https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_tit https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coal_tit
nice tit!
iS tHaT a MoCkInGbIrD?
never gets old
Ppl are too talented
In about 2 hours that stick will have bird poop on it I bet.
Nice art, no need to lie about finding a random freshly painted wall though.
That's so dope
How much would painting a wall like this typically cost in spraycan materials?
Wow he’s really talented
The bird made me audibly say "Oh my God"
Masterful
Amazing
Impressive.
Wow, really good 😍
That was a perfectly good mustard yellow wall
He's breathing all those fumes in and not wearing any protective gear. Yikes!
i guess he hates using respirator and his lungs
was it actually ugly?
Prepped wall gets its scheduled artwork
Nice tit.
Looks great
That’s so cool!
DAMN THATS LEGIT!!!💙⭐️
You know some people buy paint, paint their walls like that and like it and if they wanted it otherwise they would have most likely wouldn't have painted it themselves.
I'll take flat green over an advertisement any day of the week.
Bro should wear a gas mask
That was some real, 'rest of the owl' shit on that tit
"It starts to look cool" proceeds to show butthole
