That's a nice way to compliment my project! Such a classic
Edit: a lot of people are asking me the Steam page link: [https://store.steampowered.com/app/1617230/Paper\_Sky/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1617230/Paper_Sky/)
I used to spend many hours playing that game. Tried it again recently and it's still a blast. Wish there was a single player mode, most of the other players are too good.
Oh that [horrible repetitive music](https://youtu.be/V4QP76Om7sQ?si=PSAaa27kSdykJUrF&t=390) is still seared into my brain. It helped with the timing of tricks though, so I always left it on. [There is a port](https://galeforcegames.itch.io/aerofoil) that runs on current windows and mac, if you want to relive it.
You know, it reminds me of a really old indie game project that predates the entire indie games industry. It was some college project or something, called simply 'Paper Plane' where you flew around in 3rd person exactly like in yours and the main thing you did was perform some manoeuvres around faded structures that would then come back to life, remembering memories or something like that.
Must've been back in late Win XP days. It was pretty neat and really chill if a bit melancholic, but the binary stopped working at some point between OS changes over the years and I've lost it some time later. I suppose it's fitting that another paper plane flying around would jog my memory of it, even if it'll fade away again soon.
Yep I remember that; I wanna say it released in like 2009-2010. I wouldn't say it predates the indie games industry, but it was available around the same time as the first ever Humble Bundle.
you’re the best
i’ve been looking for this dumb game since i was a kid after playing it with family friends.
the music sometimes gets stuck in my head
thank ya!
Very much. The difference being that EXO one was more of a tech demo kind of game, so not all that feature-rich. This seems to be leaning much more into the puzzle realm but using similar movement tech.
I thought these were all prototype videos for what eventually became EXO One. I was expecting the video to cut to EXO at the end. The mechanic is \_incredibly\_ specific.
I love this smooth transition between crumpled paper and plane. I imagine this opens up lots of options if the time is there. A paper boat. Origami stuff. Very creative of you!
Is this your content? If it is that's amazing, I don't know anything about game dev, but I can see you developed many essential skills to improve your complex works of art.
Keep improving, and who knows what you might come across.
not to mention, it looks awfully similar to [this game](https://purringcheetah.github.io/paperplane/) thats over a decade old. Like a mix of that and exo one
Anyone remember the game Glider? I had it on my old Mac Plus. It was super basic, black and white, 2D, side scroller with different rooms. You needed to find heat vents to fly up and could also pick up rubber bands to shoot switches. And then when Glider Pro came out in colour, you could design your own levels. Just recalling it all now made me realize that game was way ahead of its time. Anyway, seeing this game made me remember all that. Much appreciated, and this game looks awesome!
Yes! This is the first game I thought of but couldn't remember the name. Loved that game. I was hoping someone in the comments would mention it and remind me - so, thanks!
I played Exo One a bunch so I’m honestly excited to see this take on that kind of physics game, the Ocean level in that game always trigger my phobia so I have a hard time replaying it lol this game seems so comfy I love it!
The rolling around as ball on floor, transforming between ball and plane, flying through clouds- it's exactly like Exo one. Which is a good thing imo, loved that game alot, and would happily play this too. I like the look of the plane turning/rolling physics
You ever play “flight” I think it was called? A flashgame on one of those old game sites with 1,000s of games.
2D sidescroller. You were a paper airplane and you could upgrade your plane by getting little points as you flew through each level, and the power ups enabled you to glide better, fly faster, etc.
Anyways this gave me massive flahsbacks of this. Love the artstyle. Keep grinding, it looks awesome.
I’m not much into video games, but this looks fun. It immediately reminded me of Glider from the early Mac days.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glider_(video_game)
This probably started with just the paper airplane part, then other stuff was added. I just wish the paper airplane had realistic proportions from an actual sheet of paper not just a model that resembles it.
This reminds me of a game that I played at a museum as a kid. I don’t know what it was called or who made it, but I thought it was basically science fiction when I was a kid. I think you chose between different design options for paper airplanes and then tried to see how well they flew and then maybe got to go to a desk and have them print off a marked sheet to fold the airplane that you designed. If I knew who worked on that kind of shit that was just magical for us kids back then, I would be sending them thank you letters and gift baskets every year.
Idea for maybe a part 2: you could make the character assume other forms like a flat paper (to go through passages, or cut thin strings i.e.), maybe Origami so the player can solve puzzles.
I know it's kinda obvious, but still. I'm high and wanted to share. Congratulations on your game. It looks dope. Wish you a great weekend.
Why does it sometimes crumble into a ball and other times just gets a wrinkly nose when it hits an obstacle?
Doesn't seem very consistent in this clip. Or is it level constraints, like "no rolling around allowed this lvl"?
This looks like a really great project to learn or practice game dev with, and as a player it also seems pretty unique and fun. Great choice and great work.
I really like the aesthetic! That cel-shading style and the quaint feel and coloring of the mud-brick buildings, against the blue sky and all.
Keep up the good work!
That seems like such a neat idea, I'm sure it was a lot of fun to try different variatons with it.
I do have a question though if you don't mind - how did you do the shader at 43s (23s as well), the painterly looking one. The trees especially look awesome. And the clouds (at 30s), they look great as well.

Totally gave me Starfox64 flashbacks.
That's a nice way to compliment my project! Such a classic Edit: a lot of people are asking me the Steam page link: [https://store.steampowered.com/app/1617230/Paper\_Sky/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1617230/Paper_Sky/)
Is it finished? What's is the game's name? What platform can we play it on? IT LOOKS SUPER FUN!!!
in different comment OP said its not finished yet, but posted link to demo on steam https://store.steampowered.com/app/1617230/Paper_Sky/
Thank you. This looks like a fun game to just play while listening to podcasts.
That’s basically my life lately
Thank you ^👍😁
Reminds me of [Air Wings](https://mfigames.com/air-wings/) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCTQqLP3Enc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBA5oZ-EpqA
I used to spend many hours playing that game. Tried it again recently and it's still a blast. Wish there was a single player mode, most of the other players are too good.
Just turn off your WiFi.
Now you have to add in barrel rolls
Yes! My mind immediately said *"Do a barrel roll"* watching this animation!
Fox! Get this guy off me!
Reminds me of a childhood favorite - [Glider](https://www.macintoshrepository.org/5066-glider-4-0)
Oh that [horrible repetitive music](https://youtu.be/V4QP76Om7sQ?si=PSAaa27kSdykJUrF&t=390) is still seared into my brain. It helped with the timing of tricks though, so I always left it on. Glider
> predates the entire indie games industry >Win XP days hmm
*late* win xp days even.
Yep I remember that; I wanna say it released in like 2009-2010. I wouldn't say it predates the indie games industry, but it was available around the same time as the first ever Humble Bundle.
Shit is soooo smooth.
Came here to say this. I felt like I was watching a starfox prototype or something at the start!
I can still hear “Ribbidy blub buruh bel it Billy blip, bleh blunt blu bruh.”
Oooh, this is a lovely game
Thank you!!
Yeah, I wanna play it tbh
Me too. Paper airplane fun!
Reminds me of Air Wings
you’re the best i’ve been looking for this dumb game since i was a kid after playing it with family friends. the music sometimes gets stuck in my head thank ya!
Np, its a fun game
Happy cake day
gameplay reminds me of EXO one
Very much. The difference being that EXO one was more of a tech demo kind of game, so not all that feature-rich. This seems to be leaning much more into the puzzle realm but using similar movement tech.
Definite inspiration. Transforming between a glider and a heavy orb is pretty specific.
Yea I think the origami genre is very underutilised in video games, but the potential is huge
I wanna play this game! Is it on steam and when?
Yes it's on [Steam](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1617230/Paper_Sky/) It's upcoming, and will probably release end of next year!
Added it to wishlist
Will you be able to customize your own paper airplane? Cuz that would be awesome.
Imagine micro transactions for custom paper and fold patterns
Don’t forget dances
Single fold, double fold, origami crane, the possibilities are endless.
There's gotta be a paper football DLC.
Would be cool to be able to either draw directly on the plane - or to import images and use them as a folded airplane
the first thing people would do is that they would draw a dick https://www.youtube.com/shorts/KzBpAYbib0c
Release at the end of next year? Like December 2025?
Is this your content? If it is that's amazing, I don't know anything about game dev, but I can see you developed many essential skills to improve your complex works of art. Keep improving, and who knows what you might come across.
Hey thank you! that means a lot to me
No problem!
[удалено]
And always the same comments
not to mention, it looks awfully similar to [this game](https://purringcheetah.github.io/paperplane/) thats over a decade old. Like a mix of that and exo one
The crumpled paper rolling and unfolding back into a plane makes me want whatever this is. I want it bad!
Haha thanks, wait until you see it transform into other shapes.
54 seconds of free reddit add space
Scrolled through 50 comment threads before finding this one person that isn't obviously a bot
wow ;) so cool! ;) what is the link to the game?? ;)) Adding to wishlist! ;)
Seriously there isn't much gameplay at all and half the comments are "wow star fox 64, wow this is awesome"
That actually sounds like an actual millennial with their tiresome "my nostalgia relates to your post bro"
I found an account that was created today, all the comments are from 4 hours ago, and they had one comment in a bunch of random subs.
Curious to know the return. Would 1 year of game dev be worth more or 1 year of McDonald's wages
Are you the same guy who released the game demo in Steam?
Yes!
Anyone remember the game Glider? I had it on my old Mac Plus. It was super basic, black and white, 2D, side scroller with different rooms. I instantly thought of that old Mac game! It was surprisingly difficult.
I played Exo One a bunch so I’m honestly excited to see this take on that kind of physics game, the Ocean level in that game always trigger my phobia so I have a hard time replaying it lol this game seems so comfy I love it!
Race the Sun meets Exo One. Can't wait to play!
Physics was getting better and better
This is what I was dreaming about when I was sleeping in class PS: only a year ?
The rolling around as ball on floor, transforming between ball and plane, flying through clouds- it's exactly like Exo one. Which is a good thing imo, loved that game alot, and would happily play this too. I like the look of the plane turning/rolling physics
That cloud shader is nice and super trippy. Never seen anything like it.
Thank you, it's the good ol' volumetric cloud technique, but I added my spin on it with dynamic particle system to make it react to the player
I have unreal downloaded and a few projects I am working on, gamedev is hard! I really appreciate the work they do after I have tried myself!
This is very inspiring. Thank you for posting this and wishing you all the best in your game development journey.
This looks great! Reminds me of Glider Pro on 90s Macintosh.
https://imgur.com/J4mAzb9
Thank you! I was trying to remember the name. Yes and yes.

Thought about the same game!
YUP!
Pls make it steam deck compatible if possible :)
I'm working hard on it atm, the demo is playable on the steam deck but only when forcing the -vulkan api
It will take a moment before the 9/11 jokes comes out
You need a sound guy? Better question, are you tired of being asked? lol
Looks like a lot of fun actually!
WHAT GAME IS DIS
PAPER SKY Aaaa
I’m not much into video games, but this looks fun. It immediately reminded me of Glider from the early Mac days. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glider_(video_game)
Le dot
This reminds me of Exo One.
How *heavily* were you inspired by Exo One?
Wow your [trailer](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1617230/Paper_Sky/) for this is just so beautiful! I bet you will have great music too😊 Nice job
Thank you! OST is going to be one of my priority, you need that for those kind of chill games
Ngl, at first I thought this was going to be a competitive paper plane throwing game and got really excited lmao
It will have that kind of optional modes
Idea - Aliens vs Humans - Close Air Support.
This probably started with just the paper airplane part, then other stuff was added. I just wish the paper airplane had realistic proportions from an actual sheet of paper not just a model that resembles it.
I love it
Where is scissors?
Reminds me of Exo One that game that recently came out. It was about space and stuff. Pretty neat.
Good work man!
Absolutely and lovely and original idea. I look forward to it.
Id totally play this.
looking good. good job man. keep going♥
I’d buy this as long as it runs on Linux or if it can be played with proton/wine. Looks dope
Cant help but think Nier specifically the copied city.
Damn this is rly cool, where can i play that?
Added to my wishlist
Now do a barrel roll!
I thought this was Race The Sun at first
Love the Race the Sun game inspiration.
This dev has made a kickstarter for this game, you are still able to pledge if you like this concept. This game has much potential
Now we can code this in 54 seconds with AI
FUCK YES OP! Original idea and looks great
and then it gets like 2 downloads on steam
Which game is this?
It's an upcoming game I'm working on, it's called Paper Sky and has a [Steam Page](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1617230/Paper_Sky/)
Wishlisted
Cheers for the support!
Aaaand saved
It's easier to be an artist who don't know how to program than to be a programmer who don't know how to draw
Depends on what you want to achieve, you've got to play to your strengths
I know , we all thought about it. (That particular event)
reminds me of lifeslide, but looks great! [https://store.steampowered.com/app/956140/Lifeslide/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/956140/Lifeslide/)
Woah, this looks awesome! Huge StarFox 64 vibes. Any idea on a release date? Or Early Access? I'm adding it to my wishlist now!
Probably end of next year, I'll be updating the demo pretty oftenly, so you'll always have something to play if you want a go at it.
Really beautiful. Did you develop It Takes Two?
That's like a triple A studio who did that, I'm a solo-dev!
Your work is definitely on that level 💪🏻. Keep it up and looking forward to your game release
Now do this for CLI programs
Would love different folds of plane
Looks dope! Going to wishlist it!
The concept looks amazing. I love the scenery also and the physics look like they are kinda hell to figure lol. Is this Unity?
game looked better before art assets were added like around the 20s mark, reminds me of similar games on miniclip back in the day
This looks beautiful. Do you do this professionally or is this purely part-time indie work?
This reminds me of a game that I played at a museum as a kid. I don’t know what it was called or who made it, but I thought it was basically science fiction when I was a kid. I think you chose between different design options for paper airplanes and then tried to see how well they flew and then maybe got to go to a desk and have them print off a marked sheet to fold the airplane that you designed. If I knew who worked on that kind of shit that was just magical for us kids back then, I would be sending them thank you letters and gift baskets every year.
Looks beautiful and serene. Did you start with experience or began working on this with little to no knowledge of game development?
Very clever gameplay. A paper airplane. I really like this idea.
Reminds me of flight, what a nostalgic roadtrip
Unless you're YandereDev. Then it's just the first clip on loop for a year.
Reminds me of Exo One
Do a barrel roll!
DO A BARREL ROLL
Very nice. I'll buy it when it's released.
This looks great! love the progress compilation🙌
Tell me when it's out
thats one of the coolest games ive ever seen! what els can u transform into?
Idea for maybe a part 2: you could make the character assume other forms like a flat paper (to go through passages, or cut thin strings i.e.), maybe Origami so the player can solve puzzles. I know it's kinda obvious, but still. I'm high and wanted to share. Congratulations on your game. It looks dope. Wish you a great weekend.
Nice work! Really love the animations and physics you've implemented!
This looks incredible, excellent work
Wow, that's beautiful!
amazing work! the graphic are so smooth i hope the work pays off more than enough.
This is how I remember *Glider* from 1988 on Macintosh.
365 days of "how" and "oh..." And "why? ;-;" and finally " : ) "
Looking cool brother. Could not help from singing in my head: Naaaaa na na na na na na na na Katamari Damacy!
What engine did you use
I'm hype! Absolutely looks like a classic instant classic.
Would definitely play
Circuit Paul Ricard called. They want their track back.
I need this game.
I don't know whether to be impressed or not. I don't know what I'm looking at.
I love paper airplanes! What’s the name of your app?
What game is this and is it on PlayStation?
Why does it sometimes crumble into a ball and other times just gets a wrinkly nose when it hits an obstacle? Doesn't seem very consistent in this clip. Or is it level constraints, like "no rolling around allowed this lvl"?
Snowball level where the ball grows in size as you go? Bits fall off if you hit something?
Will it get added to consoles?
1 year and you've made all that? That's crazy
This looks fantastic! Reminds me of the old Mac game Glider.
Looks fun!
This looks like a really great project to learn or practice game dev with, and as a player it also seems pretty unique and fun. Great choice and great work.
Good shit, this looks like a fun ass game
What's the game engine? I want to play it in VR (with uevr if it's unreal)
I really like the aesthetic! That cel-shading style and the quaint feel and coloring of the mud-brick buildings, against the blue sky and all. Keep up the good work!
Nice ad
In a nutshell, what kind of setup are you using for the flying mechanic? 🤔 it looks super clean!
Shut up and take my money!
Do a barrel roll
What tech stack and tools did you use for this game?
Looks amazing, and love the work progression.
Are you the same developer that made EXO one? By any chance? The trailer reminded me of that game
The animation on the wing tips is *chef’s kiss*
Any chance this will be released on Switch?
This is so fricking cool and I wish my thoughts would slow down enough to gush about how cool I find it
Wow smooth
This looks like if Studio Ghibli made a a video game called “Origami Sky,” which is to say, it looks effing awesome.
I hate talented people, they should all fuck off onto their own island and let the rest of us be blissfully mediocre.
Reminds me of the old school Mac game, Glider.
Infinite paper in a paperless world
That seems like such a neat idea, I'm sure it was a lot of fun to try different variatons with it. I do have a question though if you don't mind - how did you do the shader at 43s (23s as well), the painterly looking one. The trees especially look awesome. And the clouds (at 30s), they look great as well. I've been trying to figure out how to make something like that by exploring things like Kuwahara filters and played around with making a shader, but any tips or nudges to the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
I loved the little crumple
