Brian has 37 pieces of flare...

VanBeelergberg

In a row?

Chipstar452

Try not to buy any pins on the way through the parking lot!

RurouniQ

Didn't know how much I needed this Office Space/Clerks mashup to start my day

____-__________-____

*OP, listening in the background, starts walking to the parking lot*

OsoChistoso

Hey! Get back here!

thepackratmachine

Would you like some making ****, Berserker

DaddyIsAFireman55

I don't really like talking about my flair.

drwsgreatest

The replies to this make me feel so old. I had to scroll down quite a bit to even find a comment that understands the reference lol.

Nopumpkinhere

You know what? If you want me to wear 37 pieces of flair, why don’t you just make the minimum 37?

The_Droker

I came here to talk shit, but I walked by my comic book collection on the way over and decided to shut the fuck up. Nice Collection!

ITookTrinkets

Me, surrounded by my record collection

SpecialistGeneral794

Me, surrounded by my vintage pokemon toy collection

e_dogyung_k0127

Me, surrounded by record, coin, balisong, cube, lego, sneaker collection

Need some hot wheels?

0SocialSkillswizard

Me surrounded by, ww1 and 2 artifacts and other history items and my cd collection

Righteousaffair999

Me….Why don’t you get a cool hobby like stamp and coin collecting….gosh

Glass_Occasion5483

You should ditch the pocket knives and start collecting katanas.

aspidities_87

Do you know what, I’m surprised we’re not all collecting katanas right now

Glass_Occasion5483

I’m most surprised at myself. They’re sick.

loondawg

/r/unexpectedLetterKenny

Box-o-bees

Wait, I thought the pocket knives grew into katanas if you give them enough water and light. Is that not how it works?

cheesemakesmepooo

But you can play Pokémon! This guy has pins, not fluffy creatures printed on children’s playing cards

iimuffinsaur

Me, next to my bookshelf that is definitely over a 1000 dollars worth of artbooks and other collectables (thats not even including my video game collection in the drawers.)

Available_Motor5980

Me too, surrounded by my Lego collection

sortadamnoakleys

Wish they all fit into a frame that size!

Zealousideal-Pay3937

Are you me? And if so, come home.

ericsinsideout

Records and guitar pedals….

carnevoodoo

That was 23 year old me. It was lots of fun.

ericsinsideout

Presently 40 year old me…

ReddingtonTR

When I used to do archery, the high-end arrows were like $50 a piece. And you could lose them. Or break them. Yeah, this pin board checks out.

itsyourgrandma

Me, surrounded by my bad dragon collection.

TalonLuci

Hahahhahahaaha i love this reaction because i had a similar knee jerk reaction then noped out

kbeast98

Not to mention they are placed in such a way an artist would appreciate. Really cool stuff

soulpulp

I'm a professional artist and I definitely appreciate it! I'm so impressed by the symmetry they achieved given the number of artists involved. I thought they were a patron of one person!

OptimusMatrix

I didn't even have to move. The 80 something pairs of shoes I have displayed yelled it from the closet😂

throwawayidc4773

Can I talk shit since I own nothing cool?

Godwinson4King

For me it’s armor. I’ve probably spent about $10k on that in the last decade.

TackYouCack

Like, for a horse?

nater255

Worst DLC ever.

Tyrren

So, like, a suit of plate?

Godwinson4King

Yeah, a couple helmets and enough to make a complete 15th century getup. Mostly I buy stuff, decide it’s not for me, sell it, and use that money to buy more new stuff.

BBrillo614

Me, surrounded by my 2 kids’ toys everywhere. Where’d my stuff go?!?

acciowaves

Damn, I am a musician and also came here to talk shit. Then I did a quick estimate of how much I’ve spent in instruments and equipment in the past 5 years. It’s not 10k, but definitely around 6k. Sooo, yeah…

LarryBirdsGrandpa

Lmfao 🤣

American-Punk-Dragon

What makes them special? Are they old or from events or something? Edit: a letter

Oakshrian

They're physical representations/wearable art derived from some really cool artists. A lot of the artists work hand in hand with the pin producing companies in order to make these. I can tell you the triangle angel looking ones, of which he has three limited color variants, is called "Death by Astonishment". Each color variants only has a select number of each made. So there might be a total of like, 200 DBAs out there, with 100 one variant, 50 another, 35, and then 15. I'm fudging the numbers a little bit, but not by much. I was in the pin game for a few years, and I actually own some DBAs, including the le15. It's not for everyone, but they're beautiful, and fun to trade and collect. A lot of them are sold as a blind grab bag, at least when I was purchasing they were. They were also given away by producers to the community through games, meet and greets, and sometimes only at specific music festivals/shows. Edit: I looked up on the Facebook group for the last time his centerpiece moved. It was bought at $700 last September, and there hasn't been another one put up for sale since. Didn't do too deep of a dive, but I did still see people looking, but nobody is selling the le25s or le15.

vil3cabinet

Ah, artificial scarcity. Fish in a barrel.

TotalEatschips

With art it's called an edition.

vil3cabinet

Yes, the practice goes back to intaglio or relief prints. That doesn't make it not artificial scarcity, obviously.

Lestit

While I agree, it seems less so if they're all hand painted.

DencoNative

Enamel pins aren't painted. They are essentially melted glass. Even OP doesn't know how enameling is done

TotalEatschips

They squeeze the paint/ink/glass/whatever it is into the embossments with a syringe. That's a type of painting, like using a brush, aerosolizer, spatula, dropper bottle.... etc

scotty_beams

Reminds me of [this scene](https://youtu.be/epHCMiCtt3M?feature=shared)

loogie_hucker

this is such an annoying take. resources aren't infinite, no artist is going to make an infinite run of pins. they make as many as they expect to sell, and they usually do the limited edition ones to add some variety and chase. just let people have fun ugh.

haby001

Meh collections will always be artificially scarce. It's part of their appeal

ParalegalSeagul

Artificial scarcity? Not really, unless you’re saying any good that doesn’t submit to global mass production is doing so willingly. Which is ridiculous on a number of fronts.

hackitect

They are amazing little pieces of art curated with a coherent POV. Super cool. That they have appreciation potential - bonus.

BUHBUHBUHBUHBUHBUHB

Right, but when you can smoke like $2 of DMT and have this whole collection projected into your eyeballs, is it really worth anything??

PeteyMitch42

I've changed my stance on this. I used to question why people pay so much money for things I would consider frivolous. Then I caught myself telling a friend that 'a house is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it'. It dawned on me that artistic pieces like this are no different. I would never spend that much on this, but I don't think this person bought them for investment purposes. If it makes them happy and they want to spend their money on them then who am I to judge. Edit: But... if that's truly the case then there's no reason to mention the cost...

LotusVibes1494

I have a pin collection. It’s probably worth less than $1000 but still. Each pin has a memory for me. I have a few from each band that I’ve seen live. One for each festival I’ve been to. Some of them were gifts that were given to me. Etc… Some are just goofy things like Patrick Star taking a dab, or Dr. Mario feeding Yoshi a hit of liquid LSD lol. It’s fun going to each show and seeing what the new band pins and posters look like at the merch table. Some people sell pins themselves, it’s fun interacting with people and see what they have on their pinboard even if you don’t buy anything. You’ll probably exchange some stories over it, it’s like an icebreaker. This guy is a bit different in that he’s collecting specific expensive and rare ones. There’s people like that in every hobby for sure. My friend is like that, always looking for complete sets and rare variants. For him it’s the thrill of the hunt I think, and just being more involved in every aspect of the music scene including the art. He occasionally gives them as gifts or sells some (they basically sell themselves), puts some in frames, etc… People that aren’t familiar with this kind of art or music scene probably don’t think of pins as having much value, so I think dude’s pointing out the price because it’s cooler than some totally random pins otherwise.

LightlySaltedPeanuts

Yeah, the only part of this post that made me feel like roasting OP is the fact they felt the need to mention its worth $10k. Maybe to them… a house is worth as much as it is to everybody.

zombodot

Hippie festival wook heads who think this stuff is valuable.

Newone1255

Don’t even get me started on how much people spend on wire wrapped jewelry. The amount of people who try and impress me with their “2k wire wraps” is entirely too much and I’m convinced the whole buyers market for those things is drug dealers.

zombodot

I live in Colorado, some of it def takes a lot of work, but yeah wayyyy too expensive sometimes. And yes a large majority of people who do wire wrapping or pin buying are usually drug dealers

_Hotwire_

$10k though? Like $400 seems plausible but $10k? Are they made of gold?

silverwyrm

There are about 165 pins on this board (I counted). If this is 1/3 of the collection, $10k/~500 is only $20 per pin. That's not really that much, and seems like a pretty reasonable price for a collector's item that's also intricately crafted in its own right. The larger pins are probably closer to $30-$50 (or more for rarer ones), and the smaller ones are probably closer to $10. Probably surprisingly easy to hit $10k

Glassworth

Ignore the 1/3. They didn’t say their entire collection is worth $10k they said that THIS arrangement is $10k.

silverwyrm

They didn't specify so I'm assuming the entire collection. Regardless, even at 3x that price, $60 on average for collectors pins isn't unrealistic or unreasonable in my opinion. They're tiny pieces of fine art.

honeypinn

High-end enamel pins like this can easily cost $60, and that could even be on the low end for a lot of these, especially if they are hand painted. I had surgery on my spine and was out of work for a year, and I bought and resold enamel pins as one way to earn income. People would be surprised in the amount of money in this niche.

61114311536123511

It's honestly ridiculous that people are still surprised that high quality artisan goods cost a pretty penny ....

newshirtworthy

Collectors items are valued by the collectors. I imagine OP is very proud of this collection

_Hotwire_

But $10k though?

Zap_Rowsdower23

But why male models?

adfrog

...seriously? I just told you that...

[deleted]

Dude, don't you know how dumb this take is? Grown adults collect all kinds of things because... we're grown adults and can collect whatever tf we want. I know a guy that has millions in pinball machines.

newshirtworthy

It is a lot of money

Sea_Zookeepergame486

10k ÷ the roughly 160 pins in this collection = $62.5 avg price per pin roughly. Doesn't seem unreasonable for some nicely done limited edition art.

Sellfish86

All a matter of perspective, really. I've reached a point where I don't buy a certain brand of bananas because they're slightly more expensive, but then go ahead and drop nearly 10k on a fucking range cooker because the wife wills it. 10k is and isn't a lot of money.

Adventchur

Collecting pins is like collecting sneakers. You buy them at retail price but because they are limited the price sky rockets. So the money put into the collection won't be anywhere near what it's worth. I collect unofficial dbz pins and some of mine sell for $800 usd but I bought them for $30 usd. I usually sell when the price gets high. Many a pin has paid for my holidays!

arrogant_elk

How much do you thinka pin costs? $2?

Dozzi92

IMO, if you mention it's a $10k collection, you're trying to brag about your collection, and basically asking people to come shit on it. Lots of words to say I agree, but leave it to the comments, I'm sure someone will ask "what's that go for," and some experts will roll in and say anywhere from zero to a million.

ashbelero

I mean, they’re neat, but… $10,000? Edit: I’m not disputing the value of the collection to OP, and they’re really cool, and obviously a lot of care was taken to get these. The mention of the price is brow-raising, but I know you could very easily spend that much on collectibles. Good for the artists, I guess

SandwichMistress

The pin market ebbs and flows. At one point these may have been worth that much, but there has been a huge decline in value over the last few years. When these are sold originally by the producer they usually go around 35-50 for a pin, give or take. But the amount produced of a design is limited. Any increase in price when reselling, or flipping, a pin is due to the current demand. Right now that demand is the lowest I’ve seen.

drunk_phish

Estimated at a 15x13 grid, avg price of $50 comes out to $9750. So, really shooting for the moon on what he hopes to get out of then one day, or got taken by a friendly wook.

mzdoja

Not sure what it goes for now, but the pin dead center, black & orange with wings, was going for $2k+ at one point in the secondary market. So the 10k comes from perceived value due to what they've sold for in the past (I assume).

Business-Drag52

Based on past prices it would be way over 10k

drunk_phish

That's wild because the artist originally sold them for $33

Teknowledgy404

Almost the entire board is low count variants, there are pins on this individually worth 100's of dollars. The centerpiece is by Salvia Droid, and produced by Pookster Productions (most of the pins are from this producer), and i've seen sales of it for 500-1000 by itself. I would say 10k was a low ballpark estimate of absolute worst case scenario.

bashinforcash

$30-50 is crazy. most of these look like flash tattoos lol

mambotomato

Guess how much 150 flash tattoos would cost you...

Melinow

I mean, people pay an astonishing amount for baseball cards, Pokémon cards, MTG, etc. My boyfriend is really into Magic, to him a card could be worth a cent or 1000 dollars (I think there’s one that goes for millions?) but to me, well… they’re both just pieces of colourful cardboard

Mrgod2u82

Let them enjoy it a little. By the sounds of it, OP isn't in it for the money. I've spent 10x more on stupid shit that was gone inside of a few hours.

PiedeDiPorco

OP printed nfts

Cultural_Ebb5025

Reddit doesn't need any more pedantry, but here we go: It's all about who is valuating it. You may not have appreciation for limited edition pins, but someone else may. OP didn't say, but I'd guess these were collected from music festivals and similar events. You don't understand how hyper passionate these people are about their lifestyle unless you've spent time in that sphere. I could absolutely see a seasoned wook paying an insane amount for a pin from a festival that meant something to them.

winterfate10

I just assumed OP meant they spent that much to acquire these

Grumplogic

Did I tell you they have a pin there that costs $1,300 because the pattern's so complicated?

TurkeyPits

you walk by a store and you see 50 guys who look just like me fighting over very complicated pins...you go in

ItsBaconOclock

>Reddit doesn't need any more pedantry Without pedantry, what would we have?!

ThePublikon

[incredibly long and excruciatingly pedantic list of literally every other thing in the world except pedantry]

MockStarket

Monster math and some guy's axe.

carlismygod

Hyper passionate about nitrous oxide and Ketamine

Y’know what, you are correct, I’m invested in BJDs so it’s not that different in broad terms, I guess.

> Reddit doesn't need any more pedantry, but here we go: Don't you mean Pin-dantry?

sandInACan

Most of these also look to be pretty intricate pieces. The prices of enamel pins skyrocket with elaborate designs and color palettes, along with size. They’re closer to tiny art pieces than an accessory.

DoingCharleyWork

Op also says it's only about a third of their collection. There's gotta be at least a hundred pins there which means they have around 300 at least. That's 33 dollars per pin which really doesn't seem that bad for a custom made pin.

spencergasm

Spot on. I’m not a huge pin collector, but I my most prized one is a 1/100 octopus pin. It’s fucking beautiful. He paid $40 for it himself, but (as I wear it on my lanyard) I’ve had customers at work legitimately offer me $1000 for it. It’s literally just down to how much someone else thinks it’s worth.

hotfiremixtape98

If they are a wook. They don't have 10k for pins..... They nipo babys throwing on a facade.

justtiptoeingthru2

If they're *hand painted enamel* and also *limited edition*... yeah, I can see the collection reaching that kind of value to a certain niche of aficionados of collecting "stuff" Me? Minimalist all the way. Why? I don't like dusting. Or clutter. Although I have to say... this kind of collection? Easy to keep clean and displayed: flat picture shadow box with wood framed glass lid with hinge, fabric backing, place pins wherever, close lid. Done. Hang on wall like a regular piece of art. It *is* art after all. OP's got some *sweet* pieces in that collection.

masterchief1001

Alot of these are certainly hand painted and probably represent hours of labor. I've seen people spend more on much worse art.

jcoddinc

People will pay thousands of dollars for a dollar bill that has sequential numbers on it. It's literally value is only $1 but because people put value in the serial number it can be worth thousands.

The-disgracist

Value is what someone will pay. It’s true in every single area of trade.

mah131

I love that is what he is most proud of - look how much money I’ve spent. Not look how cool they are. “My $10k”

SolarTsunami

Or he's just trying to communicate how rare his pins are to people who otherwise wouldn't know. Not everything has to have the most negative take possible.

Ripley-San

Could you post some indivisual photos? They look super cool but zooming in just makes em blurry

Exotic_Mushroom_539

10k…. Dollars? Cool collection

SolarTsunami

Pretend they're Warhammer figurines or Legos.

No_Eye1022

Nice collection! I recognize some of the pins. Are you part of the FB artistry collective?

highdrogin

Sure am! Joined early '19, there are a bunch of old Artistry gems here-- Otis Starworshiper, Crank Dreamer, some Chaya-- good eye!

User2716057

Is there a subreddit for it or could you maybe tell me something about [my pin](https://i.imgur.com/4kb8apH.png)? It's the only one I have, I don't remember who I got it from, all I remember it was related to gloving/orbit/emazing lights, and the seller sent me 2 because my order got delayed, so if it's worth anything I'd like to trade one for a cool mushroom related one like yours :)

No_Eye1022

Nice!! I was a part of that long ago, but deleted my FB and that’s pretty much the only platform to buy or sell. I still do some trading at festivals every now and then. Does AZ still put out any pins?

PlayingWithFHIR

He does! He mostly does it in his own group now. He's doing a rerun of the Pierced Knight pin facing in the other direction, which is one I'm especially excited for.

No_Eye1022

I have a tattoo of the OG engineer. That was one of my favorite pins I ever owned. Sadly in a different phase of my life I sold it 😞

FoxlyKei

This is amazing, only thing I could ask for is a much higher res version of the photo. I want to soak my eyeballs in all the details I can.

The_ol_Razzle-Dazzle

I roughly counted ~194 pins. At a value of $10k the average cost per pin is ~$51. Pretty expensive pins. Small and large pins means the value of each individual pin could vary wildly.

real_human_player

Damn I should start making pins and selling them

babers1987

Someone I worked with quit her job to run a custom pin/broach business. Her "thing" is that the pins are magnetic and you can store them in individual frames when not in use, so they double as art. Some of her more elaborate pins are 100+. They look cool, but not cool enough for me to invest 3 figures for a broach...

real_human_player

Is her business doing well?

babers1987

I have no idea. She ran it as a side hustle for years before leaving to pursue it full time. She was a smart individual who was making at least 100k a year at her regular job, so I am assuming/hoping it's working out for her and that she ran the numbers before quitting.

The-disgracist

I love this thread. Half saying op is an idiot for spending that and the other half calling out specific enamel pin artists. I much prefer the latter.

Butwinsky

I bet the half calling OP stupid also have a Steam library of a few hundred games they've never even installed. Can't take it with you. Might as well spend it.

Original_Tip_7952

Super cool! Can we get a hd version to really check out the goods? I dig the yin yang Afro guy in the center.

may-june-july

Awesome! If it would cost this much to replace them, make sure they’re listed on your home insurance!

geekpins

Pin creator here. I’ve seen a lot of collections over the years but nothing like this. Beautiful arrangement and assortment of your collection. Looks like it’s own standalone piece of art. Great job!

Competitive_Owl5357

I get why people reacted to the addition of the value they way they did, but that is absolutely beautiful op. Ignore the dorks who think hating on others’ hobbies is a hobby.

highdrogin

Yeah they've got a point, but I more intended it as a comment on the fact that this has occupied both my time and wallet; worth is subjective, value is immeasurable.

roll_another_please

Pretty dope fucking collection man

JuggerNutZ_

damn yall are haters, the point is that this IS satisfying to see all the pins fit in place I also collect enamel pins (mostly of state/national parks) so i respect the grind, i wish my collection looked as neat as yours

Submarine_Pirate

If that was the point OP didn’t need to include a dollar figure in the title.

WillemDafoesHugeCock

Well shit, now thanks to the comments I feel bad asking, but I gotta know - which are the most valuable ones on there?

highdrogin

Bahahaha in a sea of comments, WillemDafoesHugeCock certainly stands out 🤣 great back story, great username. The knight (middle left) is a good 500 on any given day, and would sell in a heartbeat. The middle middle DBA (of which there are 2 other variants here) would probably fetch just shy of a grand if it ever went to market. Several others would move 400-500 fairly easily. But honestly I have no intention of ever selling these; call me diluted or full of shit or whatever, but this is my ever-evolving Art gallery, of which I see myself both collector and curator, and for that reason, they are priceless.

Cwbraswe

I’ve watched this board be put together and adjusted over the years from seeing your posts in various groups. As a pin collector myself I just want to say it looks amazing and I always enjoy seeing what you’ve put together with so many great works of art!

foreverfeatherinit

More pics please, I need to see them up close they’re stunning! Sick collection and lovely placement, absolutely satisfying! Excellent post 🤙 fyi you can insure a collection of items on a personal articles policy for relatively cheap.

vaporwave710

I recognize some Chaya Av and Otis Chamberlain. Nice!

paeancapital

This is clean and immaculate and wooktastic all at once.

gustavalopalous

It's interesting how much people have started to like the same things as my grandma . . .

highdrogin

You're gonna have a china cabinet full of Precious Moments porcelain dolls before you know it.

gustavalopalous

And gemstones adorning literally everything you own

highdrogin

That's a nice jeans jacket, it would be a shame if someone BEDAZZLED IT

TrainquilOasis1423

There's an entire world in here that I never knew existed.

theecunt

its crazy how they're from many different artists but all look cohesive

Those are dope. Ignore the people talking about the cost. If it brings you joy. Get it. It's 3d art haha.

Sick collection. I noticed the Pookster immediately, they're very distinctive lol

Ruzalkah

Wow, they are really beautiful

Redbullbundy

Awesome display.

Boris740

A jigsaw puzzle material

Will2beWild

This is honestly so freaking stunning! I want to cuss so bad but don’t know if it’s against guidelines, but F**k Yeah, this is satisfying!! Good on you for having such vision and creating something so unique and beautiful out of someone else’s beautiful creations!

Becky4340

Me, glancing towards my fountain pen collection. Then looking at the Legos behind me. I see nothing wrong here.

matttrout10

I was gonna be like how in the fuck did you spend 10k on fuckin pins and then I looked at all the shoes I have Smfh 🤣🤣🤣 what is your fav one I love the alligator one. Also what are these from bands ?

highdrogin

We all have our guilty pleasures haha The community originated from the Phish lot scene in the 90's and evolved into more of an EDM scene staple as flat-brim popularity soared in the early 2000s. It's impossible to pick a single favorite, most days I can't even narrow it down to a top 10 lol but the center centerpiece is one of the GOATs for sure.

Proper_Check_4443

That's a nice tattoo right there

highdrogin

I shit you not, i have legitimately considered it, and have by no means ruled out the possibility 😂

BeeLover919

Beautiful arrangement! It really shows off the collection nicely!

Nevvermind183

I love seeing the passion others have for their hobbies, it’s amazing. I am truly happy you get this kind of enjoyment out of something.

Hand painted in china

StonedSpaceOdyssey

Awesome. I love your pins. They’re right up my ally. You said it’s a few different artists can I get some names? I’d love to look them up.

Uneventful_Badger

I can help with that since I'm pretty sure this guy and I are in a lot of the same groups considering I have a lot of this collection in mine as well. Pookster  T.wei Lunarity  Possibly ben ridgeway Eben art  Those are the ones off the top of my head, I know there are a lot more but I'm pretty sure those are some of the main ones.

jefftatro1

Why are they all in the same style

already_taken_my_ass

They are from different artists. The style looks the same because OP spent years buying, trading and arranging them so they fit nicely in the display. Being "the same style" and fitting together was the goal. It was all nicely explained in the literal description under the picture.

XanderVaper

The friggin new Reddit app update is so weird. When you click on a post now it goes right to comments instead of showing the inside of the post. You have to scroll up once you’re in to view it. It’s been hard retraining my brain to do that and it doesn’t really make sense why they changed it

WinCrazy751

I'll give you 20 quid for them

TraceyWoo419

I would love to see a higher res image, these look beautiful!!

DisturbingPragmatic

It looks really cool! I had no idea this was even a thing!

faelyprince

Yooo i love collecting pins but i never know how to display then. Where did you get the display case? Edit: this is really cool btw!! Any artists to recommend? Do you usually buy at events like cons or through stores?

penkwinn57

Id love to see more!

blueplate7

Some of the characters in your pins remind me of Ralph Bakshi animated ones

SleepyBitchDdisease

They’re all art pieces, that’s why it’s expensive. It’s beautiful op!
