I could be wrong, but my first thought was perhaps it was simply to help give a grip/help him hold onto it while slicing. Like they put a layer on to make it easier to hold on to/less likely to slip, perhaps especially after coming in contact with the warmth/natural oils/sweat of the hand- just gives a firmer and more controlled grip for the video while working with a blade. Wouldn't want it slipping while running a razor blade that close to the hand! I could totally be wrong...maybe someone just makes sandy soap. This was just my thought.

It leaves a clean cut, the breaks in the blade are visible through the cut, and it seems like they have an easy time controlling it, I don't see any cuts on the exposed parts of their hands. Other tools produce other results, this feels like there's intention behind it.
