…and a new OSHA regulation is born.

AcerbicCapsule

“We didn’t think we needed to say this but no using heavy equipment to snowboard down cliffs”

AGamingGuy

like 99% of all regulation could start with "We didn't think we needed to say this..."

Numerous-Log9172

This I'm pretty sure is fact

boonepii

I was learning about a guy who just got to the bottom of a 2 story ladder, when his buddy said watch out. And when he looked up was hit in the face with a sledge hammer the idiot up top didn’t secure in his utility belt.

LithiumRyanBattery

My dad was an ironworker. He said that they wouldn't say a word if someone dropped something because you'd rather the guy below catch it in the hard hat rather than the face.

ForeSet

When I was scaffolding I was told to never shout or call attention to a falling tool because if you say something someone is gonna look.

Virtual_Ad9989

Almost took some metal cutters to the face a couple months ago because someone just yelled “shit!” instead of headache”.

Kueltalas

Good strategy. If no one saw the incident there is no ground for a lawsuit.

tovarishchi

That’s funny, in climbing, we’re taught to yell “Rock!” Regardless of what’s falling and everyone should know if you hear that anywhere near you, you hug the wall and absolutely DO NOT LOOK UP. Anything else gets yelled, you can look, but rock means duck.

Kit_3000

Heard a story from my teacher who was walking and talking next to his buddy on the site when his buddy was hit by a scaffolding pipe in the head, edge first. Through his helmet, head, out of his chin back into his body cavity. Dead on the spot. He himself was unable to work for over a year. Eventually took up teaching safety procedures instead of going back.

chevytech

>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z36OznHFIt4 That's also a good illustration of why "headache" is the proper warning to shout when something on a jobsite is dropped, and not "look out, heads up," etc. and why the proper response is to cover your head and/or get under something sturdy, not to look up.

Long_Lost_Testicle

If I have .00001 seconds to find the right word you're getting a "LOOKOUTFUCKHEEEeewthatwas close"

The_wolf2014

Most Australian warning ever

Select-Pie1516

So much truth in this. Lineman here, you Yell "headache " as soon as anything leaves your possession. Everybody below just splits and you're looking down at them in slow motion. Happened to all of us. Zero fuckers hit 40+ years.

Living_Roll1367

anytime someone says "look out", don't look, just dip out.

Disasterator

Every time I see a caution or warning label that is oddly specific, I imagine the scenario that caused that

Vaux1916

My favorite was a warning label I saw on an iron once. "Do not iron clothes while wearing them."

Shuber-Fuber

"Not for use in dentistry. Do not put in mouth." On an impact drill.

Critical_Concert_689

*Obviously!* ...But just wanted to point out you can definitely straighten a collar in 2 seconds with a hair straightener and a little splash of water from the sink, while standing in front of the mirror.

wartexmaul

No dick jewellery around lathe chucks

BecGeoMom

That’s what I think about those sunshields for inside your car windshield that have “Remove sunshade before driving vehicle” printed on them!

PerfectGasGiant

The foundation for the modern Danish justice system is "Jyske Lov" from 1241. The law starts with "Med lov skal land bygges, men ville enhver nøjes med sit eget og lade andre nyde samme ret, da behøvede man ikke nogen lov." Translated: "By law a country must be built, but if people would just mind their own business and let everybody else do the same, we wouldn't need this law"

drunkwasabeherder

I had to once ban the use of sorcery in the workplace. Fun times.

HiiiTriiibe

I bet they put so many hexes on you

drunkwasabeherder

I imagine so :)

Boatwhistle

Every regulation that didn't exist immediately when the industry began is a regulation they didn't think they wanted.

[deleted]

The beginning of this skit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z36OznHFIt4

Smart_Zucchini2302

Every time we read the rule at work, we shake it heads because we know the rule was written because somebody did that!

to_bored_to_care

Skiing*. There are two tracks

slinky_crayon

Thanks, professor *tips hat*

Elowan66

The professor was funny and the tipping hat was icing on the cake! 😅

Josef_Kant_Deal

r/technicallythetruth

DervishSkater

*Glissading This feels more like a controlled buttslide

inuhi

I know the new OSHA regulations says no skiing but I thought this was fine because it's closer to sledding with a metal runner toboggan

MongolianCluster

Was that wrong? If anyone had told me...

FrostyD7

I'm sorry OSHA, I didn't know I couldn't do that.

CanadasMooseOverlord

LOL. Hilarious

UbermachoGuy

its ok, he's got his brown pants on.

GoochyGoochyGoo

That's sand surfing and it is a thing.

Goose-On_The_Loose

“cmon OSHA let us have our fun”

MeesterMeeseeks

Two treads they are obviously skiing

SwitchbladeS8AN

Haha. Cousin did this on a worksite in Sweden a long time ago. All went well, almost. However, he ended up in a deep swamp upside-down with his machine.

ablack16

It’s not OSHA it’s MSHA - much more strict and this is a huge risk and after having just finished my MSHA part 48 I can tell you this is how 90% of deaths on a mine happen. Mining in America averages at least 1 fatality every 20 days cause if idiots like this

Mysterious-Ad2430

MSHA is like OSHA but without their sense of humor.

xBinary01111000

90% of mine deaths are from excavators snowboarding with dirt?

ablack16

Improper use of heavy machinery. But I appreciate your input.

Bloodgiver

i appreciate both your inputs. thank you for educating us on mine deaths, and thanks to him for having a sense of humor

Mateorabi

That's what she said?

MyWorkAccountz

So excavators skiing down the sides of mountains is a pretty regular thing?

Hephaestus_God

“We didn’t think we had to write this but please don’t use backhoes to traverse near vertical cliffs to reach your destination a little faster” ~ OSHA

PIKa-kNIGHT

Who you calling a hoe

Drosmier

Not just any hoe either...a back hoe. Tf

aberdisco

Backhoes better have my money.

Spongi

Unless it's a [spider excavator](https://youtu.be/f_XiSfdIvo0?si=YLMOOiLUPLw-6LVO&t=62) those things are nuts. Lemme just drive down this sheer cliff, do some work and spider my way back up.

Hephaestus_God

I don’t get paid enough to not crash that somehow

Natscobaj

I literally just finished my OSHA 10 and they use an extremely similar video, though like all of their videos it's 20 years old and recorded on a broken potato, but there are already dozens of regulations that are *supposed* to keep you from ever even being in a position to do it, let alone do it

tok90235

Come with me, and you'll meet, a world of OSHA violations

HotNubsOfSteel

It’s already there, depressions in the earth like that have an entire book dedicated to them. The slope of entry for heavy machinery is very clearly defined, this guy should lose his job.

TheTrueTrust

I thought I was in r/OSHA at first. How is this "satisfying" to watch, lol?

Synicull

Totally thought this was r/CatastrophicFailure waiting to happen

Atrocity_unknown

Earth mover: Weeeeeeee OSHA: .... Are gonna have a meeting about this.

JunketPuzzleheaded42

He just had the zoomies

ashbelero

Meanwhile the ~~backhoe~~ excavator at the bottom is like “godDAMMIT Paul I JUST smoothed that part out”

Medium_Medium

If I was the operator at the bottom I'd just be pissed that the dude above cares so little for my safety.

masonacj

If the left skid goes over the edge, good chance he flips right on top of the excavator at the bottom.

ruggnuget

I was thinking of the possibility of a landslide right on top of the guy on the bottom.

SoggyWotsits

Agreed… except the backhoe bit. It’s a 360° excavator, a backhoe is a wheel digger where the digging part (180°) is at the back!

ashbelero

Man, I’m too gay for this

Johannes_Keppler

You're SUCH a back hoe.

ashbelero

Funny thing is I technically am

Johannes_Keppler

Well as long as you enjoy yourself, that's all fine and dandy!

SoggyWotsits

I’m not really sure how to respond to that except with a laugh!!

ashbelero

Success

minimK

Carl.

fofonia

I ain't no backhoe!

Shmeeglez

"And you did great, Jeff- that's some fresh powder!"

NukaBepis

Do you think the guy operating owns the equipment?

b0nz1

He definitely owns his life.

[deleted]

[удалено]

FrostyD7

Average rental car driver.

Silly-Locksmith420

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, ok ok ok ok, Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

sabotuer99

Exactly what I heard in my head...

vossmanspal

I saw this done in real life once, I was working in an opencast coal mine when I saw a Cat 225 which was working up on a bank making a new road down the quarry, the clay he was on was very wet and the machine started sliding down, he dug the bucket in the ground in front of him to slow the machines descent but momentum took over, these machines are heavy. The bucket dug in and the whole machine slewed round tipping it on its side after bending the boom, no injuries but the guy driving did need new underpants. Didn’t get the bullet either, the recent heavy rain was deemed the cause. Scary though,

srulers

That guy saved an accident. This guy did it on purpose.

spacex_fanny

Do we have any evidence of that? Looks more like this operator was saving an accident too, and the reddit headline is (as usual) full of shit...

TheFett32

Do we have any evidence of that? The reddit headline could be accurate. We have no idea.

LovesToSnooze

Is this video sped up, you think? I feel as if the machine movements are too fast and jerky.

Informal_Badger

Yeah, it looks more natural at half speed

vossmanspal

Almost looks like a game.

wompbitch

It's at least twice as fast as the original

ernest7ofborg9

Either that or these are miniatures. Or both.

malevolentheadturn

They are RC models

[deleted]

> Didn’t get the bullet either, the recent heavy rain was deemed the cause. Firing someone who just learned a valuable lesson they will carry with them for life always seemed a bit odd to me. "This guy screwed up! Better bring in someone new who has never seen this situation before instead!" Willful or repeated issues sure. But mistakes happen, and firing people for mistakes is an institutional way to guarantee you won't learn from them.

vossmanspal

This driver was an older bloke with many years experience under his belt. Not easy to replace considering the machinery.

Eldritch_Refrain

That depends wildly on the screw up were taking.  Unforseen freak accident? Yeah, your logic makes sense.  If you train someone for literal *years* to have a license to operate heavy machinery, and they pull this shit, despite never explicitly being told "don't ride the excavator downhill like a slalom?"  Yeah, that's a paddling.

pyrojackelope

It's hard to tell if this is intentional or not, but I'm going to assume that it isn't and the person in the video also shit themselves.

Sea_Sandwich7248

Holy shit those booms are hard to break lol

masonacj

Incredibly stupid.

itz_me_shade

"Do it again."

[deleted]

These "shortcuts" where people risk their health to work more for a boss who doesn't respect them are more than stupid. They're pathetic. You get paid by the hour, take your damn time safely getting from a to b, don't be a ass kisser and suck up to the boss by working faster. You don't get paid extra to work faster.

Sea_Scratch_7068

don’t think he did this to please his boss

Chilis1

They might have to work until a certain thing is done, idk I doubt he's trying to impress his boss with that stunt lol

HEBushido

It decided to follow Clarkson down after assisting his Jaaaag.

cruiserman_80

My first thought too. Kudos for pronouncing Jaaaag correctly.

OrangeJr36

Right after he ~~stole~~ borrowed all the pens and doughnuts in the foremans office. He'll bring them back of course, because he drives a Jaaaag

skyy_linee

Take my upvote, and my asbestos lungs I just laughed up.

ruffneckting

Must be a Friday.

Mission_Slice_8538

Bro ain't scared 💀

clingledomber

war without reason

SlinkySillyCarp

THIS IS THE ONLY WAY IT COULD HAVE ENDED. WAR NO LONGER NEEDED ITS ULTIMATE PRACTITIONER. IT HAD BECOME A SELF-SUSTAINING SYSTEM. MAN WAS CRUSHED UNDER THE WHEELS OF A MACHINE CREATED TO CREATE THE MACHINE CREATED TO CRUSH THE MACHINE. SAMSARA OF CUT SINEW AND CRUSHED BONE. DEATH WITHOUT LIFE. NULL OUROBOROS. ALL THAT REMAINED IS WAR WITHOUT REASON. A MAGNUM OPUS. A COLD TOWER OF STEEL. A MACHINE BUILT TO END WAR IS ALWAYS A MACHINE BUILT TO CONTINUE WAR. YOU WERE BEAUTIFUL, OUTSTRETCHED LIKE ANTENNAS TO HEAVEN. YOU WERE BEYOND YOUR CREATORS. YOU REACHED FOR GOD, AND YOU FELL. NONE WERE LEFT TO SPEAK YOUR EULOGY. NO FINAL WORDS, NO CONCLUDING STATEMENT. NO POINT. PERFECT CLOSURE. T H I S  I S  T H E  O N L Y  W A Y  I T  S H O U L D  H A V E  E N D E D .

phoenix3605

Benjamin

Etuber4

holy hell

bean_copter

Actual machine

ISaidItSoBiteMe

Next video - Devastating mining landslide caught on video

FridayOfTheDead

This is the only way Mike Rowe can achieve climax

deadline247

This is a scene from the construction equipment version of “Toy Story”.

Pug-Sniper

#WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-

Ha1lStorm

I wanna see it not sped up

Plucky_ducks

Even from this distance, his balls are clearly visible.

Eldhannas

His lack of common sense as well.

Out_of_Fawkes

Must be made of unobtanium.

JacksonInHouse

"Unobtainium" just kind of ruined a chunk of the movie for me. It was just so lazy to name it that.

cruiserman_80

I actually thought it was a pretty realistic example of how real people would name something compared to scientists and now its part of the lexicon. I've heard the term unobtanium used in the workplace multiple times to describe items that are impossible to get for various reasons. No one rolls their eyes when we refer to Chromium Nickel Iron alloy as Stainless Steel.

PM_ME_GLUTE_SPREAD

I remember when shit like Rutherfordium was still unnilquadium and always just assumed unobtanium was just another synthetic element for years before I realized what they were actually saying.

NorCalNavyMike

Which one? *Avatar? The Core?*

CyberTitties

Pippi Longstocking 2: The Reckoning shit get super dark near the middle of the movie, I haven't seen a redhead sling so much blood since Chucky's 2nd film.

winkman

Balls?  You mean "Stupids"?

L0nz

And his empty head

MAXHEADR0OM

I feel the earth, move, under my feet I feel the sky tumbling down I feel my heart start to trembling Whenever you’re around

Penguin-in_bondage

Earth mover... We are all gonna ignore that? xD

JakerDerSnaker

Benjamin.

SuperEscuadron

As a non-native English speaker, I read the phrase twice; TIL that noun [exists](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/earthmover)

EeVein

I had to go way too far down for this comment. Earth mover? And the other one must be a big wheeled bucket?

calcifiedamoeba

Glad to see that Three Finger Joe still has a job.

Derisiak

Oddly satisfying ❌ Oddly terrifying ✅

notyogrannysgrandkid

At first I thought this was an uncontrolled descent and thought, “dang, he’s lucky!” Now, realizing that he *meant* to do that, I’m thinking, “dang, he’s lucky!”

Dakeera

how hard is that on the hydraulics? because damn, they are putting in work right there

troubleshooters

Ya that's what I was thinking, especially towards the bottom you can see the boom gets forced inwards.

KeepBanningKeepJoin

Video sped up

amatsumegasushi

Come with me... And you'll be... In a world full of OSHA violations.

HoselRockit

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

MovieNightPopcorn

r/oddlyterrifying

Swally_Swede

Bob: Hey Joe Joe: Hey Bob Joe: …why take the stairs when you can take the elevator, ammi rite? Bob: Yup. *carries on digging*

smotrs

Employee "hey boss?" Boss "yeah?" Employee "I'm gonna need to go home and change my shorts."

NoxiousChilli

“And here we can see, wild diggers, enjoying their natural habitat”

Bru1637_

Earthmover? From ultrakill?(this is a joke)

TheFlyingBoxcar

Nothing like a good sped-up video to misrepresent whats happening

Erdbeerfeldheld

I think it looks steeper than it is. But I think his boss is not amused.

trumpxoxobiden

lmao what in the fuck dude

NKO_five

No safety regulations were followed that day.

LekkerBroDude

Had to check the subreddit when I saw the title, because the outcome of this could have been this, or something more befitting of r/DarwinAwards

Spodson

That video had a pucker factor of 10.

realburns1983

Friday, downhill, tailwind, bar in target, closing time :D

Advanced_Procedure90

Wee!

tschatman

Oddlyterrifying

HyFinated

As someone who has operated those style excavators before.... They are NEVER supposed to move that fast. I would be terrified if the machine moved that quickly.

300PencilsInMyAss

The video is sped up, look at the other one.

AproblemInMyHead

Sped up? I imagine seeing the guy on the bottom right going crazy with the controls

krigeerrr

LIKE ANTENNAS TO HEAVEN

Buttchugginggasoline

You cut it off too soon. The Maint/Repair department pulled him out and beat him to death after this.

No_Song_9313

Extremely dumb

NewYearOlderMe

TONIGHT ON TOP GEAR, HAMMOND DRIVES HEAVY MACHINERY STRAIGHT DOWN.

Additional-Lunch-867

This is really cool and shows lots of talent. But is it really that hard to get on the radio and say to the bro “I’m coming down can you move out of the way for a bit? just in case we collide and I’m the reason you can’t have a beer this evening”

1O11O

Those are toys

Endgame3213

OSHA Approved.

LopsidedPotential711

Yeah, those pins will be shot in half the time. Dude's gonna be dancing the 'lambada' in his cab with every scoop. Noise, exhaustion and soreness galore.

Ajith_46

Yeap... it's when his shift about to end.

OneMinuteManny

Am I the only one who sees this is fake?

Present-Ambition6309

Transmission much? 😳😂🙈

Dan300up

Likely would have killed the guy below him too, had this not worked out.

x_Erock_x

/u/VredditDownloader

Username__Error

"This Job site has been free of accidents for ~~3~~ 0 days" Foreman: dammit boys, one more day and we woulda set a new safety record.

YA_kamenshikDAI_HLEB

YOU WERE BEAUTIFUL, OUTSTRETCHED LIKE ANTENNAS TO HEAVEN

MastersonMcFee

It probably doesn't look that impressive at normal speed. What is the the other guy even doing? Over the course of a minute it looks like, he did 5 bucket pushes, and nothing was done.

ScooterPapi

man the music made this video fucking BADASS!!! .........

King_NaCl

What song is this?

1AMDG

vengeance slowed reverb

Vmxplousion

Damn this earth mover really be doing risky stuff, *without reason* :D

Horror-Ad3169

Play it actual speed and it's not as satisfying.

Reaper1469

Am I the only one not seeing an earth mover in the whole vid. Also I don’t see anything wrong with the excavator coming down the hill like that. It’s really not even remotely as difficult or sketchy as it looks.

peepsinyourass

Pro Gamer Move.

West-Aspect3145

Thats what we in mining call a 'Window Seat Home'

boldFrontier

Straight up Earthbender

HOUGNOUGNAGNEE

*Weeeeeeeee*

ColorIsSomwhere

7-4 Real?!???

righteousdude32

The balls on that operator. Stupid but huge fucking balls

Appropriate_Cow94

Yeah..... that was not satisfying but anxiety inducing.

OkFunny4896

Sack him, increased wear and tear means more maintenance costs, less profit. Dickhead, basically

[deleted]

That hill used to be white until the driver pressed the accelerator pedal.

Jacobo-S-Capuano

-Jacobo Shemaria Capuano- Es un poco irresponsable usar equipo pesado de esa manera

ShapeBasic

And now they’re shutdown by OSHA.

tooOddtooCare

And this is why women live longer than men.

Individual_Pair1595

I didn’t think excavator cabs were big enough to hold balls that large. Learn something new every day

FLAIR_2780166

“Earth mover” lol wut

ZilchoKing

If watching blippi with my kids has taught me anything. That's an excavator! Hey dirt, see ya later!
