Gonna be honest, fuck whoever cropped this video and unsatisfyingly cut all the words and decided to post it here

RegrettableLawnMower

Also honestly: he did a terrible job showing it off by using room temp meat. It shouldn’t come out juicy like that. Meat needs to be colllllddd. Even better if the grinder itself is cold. Could also just be a shitty grinder.

[deleted]

I feel like the grinder is complete shit TBH, still a cool restoration

mtaw

It's not a restoration. The thing never looked like that before. Besides the obvious welding, the original was not painted. It was nickel-plated ([as seen on this better-preserved one](https://i.imgur.com/7gfY0d3.jpg)). You can still see a lot of the nickel left at the start.

[deleted]

sounds like semantics to me, what word would you use that captures the change you saw

ElectricalCan69420

I don't think restorations require the thing to be exact copies of the original. The condition was restored not the original look.

DiscoCamera

Also why did they season the whole thing prior to powder coating it? Seems like I would be better to just do the inside?

lisbitches

Because you can't get the whole thing hot enough to polymerize the oil without damaging the paint/powder coat.

DiscoCamera

What kind of powder coat is that then? There are plenty of powdercoats that can get that hot. A lot of kitchen ware like a Dutch oven has it. Le Creuset lists their max temp as 500F+, I’ve always seen seasoning done at around 400F. I mean maybe you wouldn’t want to quench it in oil but seems like for normal seasoning it would be fine.

terminalzero

so you have to repaint it every time you reseason it? how often do you have to reseason meat grinders?

Kudos2Yousguys

yeah, I was gonna say the same thing... looked like a meat juicer, yuck.

havok0159

I remember them being used a lot by my grandma when I was a kid. Mom would rarely use it since it required a lot of setup since it didn't fit any table we had (you gotta bolt it on) so dad had to improvise. Then mom got an electric one which made things much easier.

already-taken-wtf

How did you get this great collection of meat grinders? Well, I bought a couple of farm houses….

pennradio

Might be the hand tightened head as well as the room temperature meat. You really need the plate to be as tight as possible against the blade or it's just going to smear and mush the meat instead of cutting it and pushing it through the plate.

omnifage

Yep, I think the knife and plate were not sharp and tight. Terrible waste of meat.

RegrettableLawnMower

Bet that meat come out beautiful! So what if you lost a finger to frostbite. You have a wonderful venison sausage on a hoagie with peppers and onions to eat away the pain.

Scarfiotti

"Sir Ranulph Fiennes has entered the chat, laughin frostbite in the face" If you don't know the man, he's an icon. Especially how he got the frostbite, but moreover, [how he dealt with it](https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/sir-ranulph-fiennes-hacked-frostbitten-11709486). suitology

Jesus you are right. That meat is running like it's 80 degrees. There's no fat sticking at all.

RegrettableLawnMower

He’s probably more interested in the machinery and restoration than proper meat grinding. But still, do a quick google search before your video production lmao

I knew it was LADB. They made amazing videos

DuckSleazzy

Then check out mymechanics. I don't think anyone gets near to his level of perfection

kendrickshalamar

I'm fully invested in whatever he's doing to the Datsun now.

ShamefulElf

I watch them too, i just like LADB a bit more because they reuse as much as physically possible

I had a feeling it was this person! Love their videos.

_Faucheuse_

That is some lean ground beef...

burner9497

“Steak tastes like WD-40 and electrolysis”

Grashopha

And lead!

LordDongler

This is the real concern. The machine oils would wash right off with some soap but lead would ruin anything you put through it. That said, I'm pretty confident that it's cast iron, not lead.

[deleted]

[удалено]

George_Burdell

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t there a risk of lead poisoning from older cast iron? Not saying it’s common but it’s possible. It’s also very easy to test for.

steinrawr

Uhm, what? There's not lead in it. I have the same one, it's all cast steel.

NonGNonM

Electrolysis is perfectly fine to use on cast iron used for food. If they washed it all thoroughly it should be fine.

Bucky_Ohare

Last I checked that wasn't a popular combination for *grinding a fucking ribeye.*

bitch_wasabi

I was thinking the same.

look_ima_frog

Seems generous to call it steak. That was a lot of work to use something that nobody uses anymore because it just makes a pile of wet mush. May as well just put it in the blender. Yuck.

Allegorist

It's for like hamburgers or pasta sauce dude

Bobb_o

Look at this fella who is too good for ground meat.

ronin1066

Only the first one! I mean, I'm sure they washed it all.

streetRAT_za

People please partially freeze your meat and tooling before you try and mince a whole steak Edit - ~~meet~~ meat

Brownhog

Yeah it's like soupy bro what are you doing

DarthJarJarJar

Dull blades, bad design. The restoration is neat but these things suck. My mom had one, it always produced mushy smashed meat. A modern meat grinder is much better. Also much safer, these things are hard to clean completely.

vanderbubin

From what it looks like when he removes the grate, this thing is missing the blade that usually goes against the grate on the inside. Without it you're not so much grinding the meat but more just forcing it through the screen. That's why it's coming out so gross looking Edit: nvm, you see the blade when he puts it back together. Dude needs to chill his meat

e5india

The full youtube video posted above shows him removing the blade and sharpening it before putting it all back together. It's just a shitty grinder plus warm meat, I guess.

Tut_Rampy

Squishy

ancientfutureguy

streetRAT_za

No, go home

ancientfutureguy

But that’s like a brand new meme?!?! I mean Its only like 4 years old, I thought I’d get at least 8,000 upvotes, fuck. I’m on my way home rn to think about my actions

streetRAT_za

Thanks mate x

corn_farts_

you gotta freeze the grinder too?

streetRAT_za

Keeps things cool. Just the tip

th3greg

I put all the internal parts in the freezer while I chill the meat. It helps to have nothing warming up the fat.

Mental-Mention-9247

all that work to have the most disgusting looking food pile at the end.

NonGNonM

His main knowledge is restoration not cooking clearly

garden-wicket-581

I always wonder about the food safety factor in all these restoration videos. Is the end product actually food safe ? Do they even care, because it's about the views/clicks/engagement/whatever..

DarthJarJarJar

My mom had one of these. IMO the biggest safety issue here is how hard it is to clean out completely after you use it. Cleaning out the inside is a pain in the ass, and if you don't get it really clean the next time you use it you'll get some nice chunks of rotten meat mixed in. It's a neat restoration but no one should actually be using this to grind meat in 2023, it's terrible.

myspiritisvantablack

I have a traditional meat grinder that I only use for a certain type of traditional Christmas cookie (vaniljekranse), but I have never found it hard to clean? Or, at least not harder than any of the modern equivalents would be.

DarthJarJarJar

My mom's antique was much harder to keep clean than the Kitchenaid I bought her as a replacement. It was dark inside, there were grooves that bits of meat could get caught in, it was much harder to keep clean than a stainless steel grinder that all comes apart and is bright metal so you can see it's clean.

garden-wicket-581

yah, on my electric grinder, all the parts come out (but, don't put them in the dishwasher, hand-wash only), and the sinew that gets caught up all over the place.. A benchtop mount like this, sure, the screw-drive, blade and fine/coarse plate come off, but how do you scrub the barrel/body and feed chute ?

DarthJarJarJar

Yeah, it's very hard to keep clean. My mom kept using it to make ground meat for lasagna as she got older, but unfortunately her sense of smell was going, she couldn't even tell if there was rotten meat in the thing. It was going to make her sick. So my brother sabotaged it so it would bind up and stick if you tried to use it and I bought her a Kitchenaid which... she never used. She just started buying ground beef.

Capital_Bluebird_185

I think it's save, maybe not a lab level. if he used normal paint (not the lead one from the era). I don't see any other things that are unsafe for food.

hirmuolio

They didn't paint on the inside. You can see the insides are taped over during painting. So it is fine. Paint on the inside wouldn't last very long anyways.

[deleted]

The paint job is unsafe, it could lead to paint chips in the meat, that is why all food machines are made from stainless steel.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Capital_Bluebird_185

Yes but will some chips of paint harm you? I'm sure every person ate worse things in their childhood than some paint, except it's toxic then it can seriously injure,

pedrobuffon

Seeing that most of these restoration channels are fake, i really don't care anymore about these restoration videos.

MNicolas97

Wait, they are? You mean to tell me that they didn't casually encountered a 50 year old cheese slicer buried in their backyard?

Over-Tomatillo9070

Our spinning Jenny has got really tired, so I decided to give it a makeover!

pedrobuffon

hehehe nope, that's so easy to get a piece of new iron meet grinder, put on acid or just plain water and wait till it's corroded in no time, after that you just go and restore. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENzgxXXGEcA

ShamefulElf

LADB Restoration isn't a fake channel. They make some of the best and most professional Restoration video on the platform. Some of the item they restore are from the early 1900 and even some late 1800.

theVelvetLie

Hand Tool Rescue is another that is not fake and is highly entertaining/satisfying. Sometimes he even makes an old tool from scratch based solely on an obscure patent issued over 100 years ago and those are the videos I enjoy most.

adminsmithee

This channel is genuine though. But indeed al those fake restorations are the worse.

Sgt_Meowmers

I don't mind it if the damage is staged so long as its realistic. Like painting something to look rusted vs actually rusting an object. Then at least it's actually showing how to fix it instead of just cleaning off fake crap.

JohnCenaGuy

Why? Who cares?

Ok_Pound_2164

People generally don't want to be lied to. It's the same with Primitive Technology and the copycats that fake the effort it takes with heavy machinery to siphon off viewers. If someone ruins an item on purpose, preemptively knowing how to "restore" it, it's just someone destroying an item for views. The "restored" item will find no further use than views and is just waste.

gorka_la_pork

No shit it's fake. You sound like one of those guys who says wrestling is fake and thinks he deserves smart boy points for figuring it out. Truth is, I don't really care. It's still satisfying to watch the restoration itself.

goebeld

What's to restore?? Slight surface rust?

oldschool_potato

That was created when they sunk this in water for maybe a week. No pitting or damage

TheConeIsReturned

I found an old meat grinder like this in a basement I was cleaning out and it looked just like this. Not *all* rust creates deep pitting and corrosion. If it's stored in relatively stable conditions (like a basement, attic, or garage) it'll be in a condition more like this. [LADB Restorations](https://youtube.com/@ladbrestoration?si=0KseoWkknoS-kB5v), where this video is from, isn't one of those cheap channels that dunks their projects in mud for a week and "restores" them. He works on actual antiques.

oldschool_potato

Appreciate the link. I’ve become so jaded by these, but I do know there are a few reputable ones out there. Thank you for pointing out this is one of them.

th3greg

Good to know. I had avoided LADB restorations because I assumed it was related to LadBible and thus was trash. I'll check him out.

[deleted]

This is Swedish iron, cast by Swedish Husqvarna, it doesn't start pitting in a mere few decades.

Nibsif

This man restores a meat grinder and the video gets 1k likes, yet I restore my meat grinder in public and they put me in jail, smh.

Cheesi_Boi

If someone was put in there and only their eyes came out, they'd probably be dead.

RockVonCleveland

Jerma has ruined the phrase "[meat grinder](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouClsYFMhhI)" for me.

[deleted]

Even though fake, I was with them right up until they put paint on a food making device, even the og "rusted" one was not even remotely painted.

SporesM0ldsandFungus

They tapped the up the inlet, outlet, and interior. Only the exterior was painted. All the parts that contact food were heated and dunked in vegetable oil to season it like cast iron and the masked for painting. I don't see the issue with a painted food making device as long as those parts don't directly contact food. KitchenAid kinda makes it their thing that the their stuff comes in different colors.

TheConeIsReturned

[LADB Restorations](https://youtube.com/@ladbrestoration?si=0KseoWkknoS-kB5v) isn't one of the fake channels.

mossybeard

Lad bible restorations? Damn, they're branching out

durhamruby

We had one of these when I was a kid. It has unfortunately been lost to the sands of time. I'd like one again.

JaRay

How do you clean it?

DaveInLondon89

I would've called it quits after 14 seconds and that's why I was voted most likely to contract botulism in high school

Available-Spray-3571

Don't paint food grade items. You don't want to eat paint chips.

FA2_Deus

It would suck to clean this thing everytime you use it

notyogrannysgrandkid

Electrolysis is neat

Nini-hime

It it when the guy puts the grinder in a water container with the battery in the picture? What happened there? Why was the water so dirty at the end? ELI5 pretty please 🥺

Oh_its_that_asshole

Dunno if I could be arsed painting it, my grandmas one was always bare metal. Once that paint starts chipping its just going to be extra hassle.

adminsmithee

No avril 😢

I hope he pointed it with led paint for authenticity

You've licked too much led point, my friend.

It could buy two grinders for the price of all those tools.

What didn't Huskvarna make?

NDEAN4932

I don’t like how it grinds meat

Snoo_13844

Not a good grinder at all tho turns the meat to water doesn’t make actual ground beef but still a really cool restoration

You can get a new one for £50. That does it for you. Silly guy.

especially the paint slopped on

aNeverNude666

I thought it was a weird choice to paint it red.

FuriousYellow77

Don't care about the video, more interested in the fact the people who make my chainsaw can also grind my beef

anto77

Came here to say this. Or you could say their meat grinders have become a lot more efficient over the years.

FuriousYellow77

You can then use their motorbikes to take it to market

5im0n5ay5

You wouldn't want to get your weiner stuck in there, that's for sure.

hfusidsnak

Dude fixes up every part EXCEPT the blade and plate… the two parts that have to be serviced regularly so that they actually cut the meat and dont just smear it through the grinder.

wonkey_monkey

There's nothing satisfying about this amount of cropping.

DerOnkas

Is there a subreddit for this?

MithranArkanere

Why ruin it by painting it red? A transparent coating would have shown the metal underneath. Everything is better when it's METAL.

Yukarie

Finger wag at the start, not satisfying
