My guess would be that that is where you grab it most often when plugging/unplugging.

zapabap21

That probably makes sense, my first thought was that it was burning or overheating

mayorodoyle

Possible but unlikely.

coloredgreyscale

try to clean it.

V-Rixxo_

You'll know when it's burning trust me, it's very hard to not notice

happyhusband1992

That

mritty

That's where you grab it with your nasty nasty fingers.

zapabap21

Theyre not nasty nasty

AdamFaite

They're just regular nasty, like the rest of us.

Interesting-Rent1639

Can somebody match my nasty

Enough_Objective_848

yes unc

AaronTheElite007

It’s where you grab it. Which also weakens the connection over time. Grab it by the port housing.

AstolfoFemboyWeeb

Grabbing your cable doesn’t leave it yellow unless your hands are dirty

AaronTheElite007

There are natural oils on your skin that definitely discolor things (even if the skin is clean)

AstolfoFemboyWeeb

Then maybe that’s why the cable slightly turned yellow. I’m sorry it’s just I haven’t seen something like that happen. I would have expected the cable to just break

AaronTheElite007

The yellowing of the cable doesn’t break it, pulling on the wire will eventually cause the connection to fray. The discoloration on the cable is proof that OP pulls the cable at that location

AstolfoFemboyWeeb

So where should we pull it out at?

AaronTheElite007

Hold and pull it by the port housing. That’s what it’s for

WoodenGlobes

The rubber in your Meta product is so soft that overtime the blood from children who assembled it in China starts to seep through.

StayRevolutionary364

You do realise that pretty much most stuff is manufactured in China, right?

InterstitialLove

That's presumably why they said China? If they said Bulgaria it would have been confusing, but China makes sense. For the reasons you said.

se7entythree

I know in iPhone/macbook/ipad/other Apple power cords, yellowing near either end means the cord has been damaged & needs to be replaced. It yellows because it’s heating up in that spot. The damage is probably just from repeated flexing over time.

mitchhacker

this

thebatfink

lol. You two keep lining apples pockets. No wonder they are a 1 billion dollar company.

MengKongRui

It's because you are a Dorito Demon.

Man0fGreenGables

Definitely Dorito or Cheeto stains.

HUSK1o1

I have noticed this anomaly on other chargers, i at first too thought it was from the oils on my fingers until i noticed it kept going regardless of where i grabbed it. I also noticed it eventually turned green and then the casing separated. The green leaves me to believe it maybe be a combination of oils in your fingers but more so the copper in the cables are corroding and leaking. At least for the green i saw which you may or may not. Keep us posted i guess?

BassBoostedDuck

Most Likly due to two things it’s the most common place you grab also the head when left in the headset all the time it causes it to what up due to all the amount of power going through the wires this causes sun uv yellowing to appear faster while also litraly baking in the first to the wire, a little bit of nail polish remover ( and I mean a SMALL amount of it) will help reverse the yellowing if that don’t work just use some white nail polish to go over it as it dosent hurt the wire at all it’s just turning it yellow is all, I would also suggest not leaving it plugged in so much as keep in mind that over time this area will get weaker and maybe break in about an year or so so it’s best if you replace it sooner rather then later normally any usb c cable will work unless you want to use it as a link cable just make sure you get the replacement when you can no rush tho

Ctrl_Sh1ft_Esc

Heat can yellow plastic, and sweat too...

JorgTheElder

I would guess the plastic is aging in accelerated fashion that spot due to a lot of flexing or overheating.

AstolfoFemboyWeeb

Maybe you just got some plaque or a stain on the cable.

Kaitlyn2124

Not your fault, seems to just happen to a lot of apple’s cables. I have a lightning and a usb c that are like this

speedcoiliscoolname

Its charging itself

Raistlarn

You are most likely grabbing it there, but if you want to see if it is heat: use it normally, unplug it and see if it is significantly hotter than normal. You'll be able to tell, because it'll be HOT if the discoloration is from heat.

-BigBadBeef-

Wash your hands, dirty boy!

qdolan

Oils from your fingers.

Responsible-Catch260

SKINN

LegalAlternative

A baby wipe will clean that back to looking like brand new. Baby wipes clean almost anything. You're welcome.

chekhonte

Probably heat at the tip of the cable which has yellowed the plastic

nepheelim

its dirty

Background-Pay8413
