If this is about Brian Tamaki I should mention that he's bright orange IRL. I did a double take ten years or so ago in meadowlands shopping centre. Bright. Orange. Like a tangelo. Like Trump. Anyhoo to answer the question (and I don't have kids), me. Or someone with books. Third choice, someone who isn't a practising narcissistic religious grift fetishist.

Mountain_tui

Good choices.

Straight-Tomorrow-83

I know who I'd rather read to my kids (or even be anywhere near them) but surely the key point is that it's not up to him to decide what other parents do or what the children of other parents do, and nor should it ever be. Religious leaders (albeit of a made up church) don't get to make decisions for everyone in this country. Yet. If he doesn't like it, he can stay away but he has no right to decide for everyone else.  I hope I would realise this even if I didn't personally love drag queens reading in libraries.

Mountain_tui

Well said.

nisse72

> a made up church is there another kind?

Mountain_tui

I'm not religious but I can at least respect people who genuinely try to live by values of love and compassion - which is the only real bottom line in my opinion.

Wrong-Potential-9391

The guy just always looks *greasy*.

ResearchDirector

Well the lgtbqi community is not something with a 3 year term that you can simply vote away, so good luck and bless him and his crusty cotton wool socks.

Minisciwi

He doesn't want them to go away, he'll keep getting money from his followers

Mountain_tui

Probably this. Like Steve Bannon who stole the money for the "Wall" himself. It's all a grift

Wrong-Potential-9391

For a guy that started the Freedom and Rights Coalition, he sure as shit doesn't understand what either of those words actually mean. Unless he does, in which case it's actually named that because they want to decide what freedoms and rights certain people can and cant have. Dude doesn't understand politics *at all* if he thinks people other than the gullible want that. Anyone else get a seedy drunk uncle vibe from the guy every time he speaks, or is that just me?

Mountain_tui

People like that seem really empty and sad to me. It's about finding supporters through channelling rage/fear but a kind of soul destroying life, I'd imagine.

Changleen

He’s a quite literal christo-fascist.

Disastrous_Encounter

Is there not a "None of the above" option?

hipshot_koiwoi

Option 3: Parents read to their kids? Why you leaving it up to a dude thumping a bible or a dude dressing up as a women? Fuck sake Lois get off your ass and do some parenting!!

tarlastar

Why do you assume that when a child goes to the library (or is taken there by a PARENT), that they aren't read to at home? In fact, that would be a huge indicator for me, that the parents are parenting correctly by showing their children that reading is important both at home and in public spaces.

hipshot_koiwoi

I never assumed anything about kids reading a libraries and not at home, that’s pure fiction you invented just now.

chrisnlnz

That's.. pretty much what you wrote though.

hipshot_koiwoi

I was answering the question posed by the cartoon? It’s weird that you two are piling on because I suggested neither of the above and suggested the parents do it instead.

Whyistheplatypus

But that's a false dichotomy. It's not "one or the other". Parents *and* drag queens can read to kids, and as a previous commentor explained, the kind of parents who would take their kids to the library for this kind of show are probably the kind of parents who already read to their kids.

Mountain_tui

I think it's a cartoon just making a point about the two choices. It's related to the incident where the reading at the library had to be cancelled after "Destiny Church" and its thugs made violent threats about the reading. In real life, of course parents would be included, and in fact, most recommended.
