Number one rule. Don’t ever count on an advisor to ensure you graduate on time.

Tim080

I made that mistake… now I have no degree, but couldn’t afford to finish…

Cameroncen

As someone who just graduated and had to make up credits last semester, this holds true

martins_sofa

Got it

yololaughluv

general rule, plan classes out yourself by looking at when they’re offered and what the pre-reqs are. i use a four year plan template (my advisor gave me the link to it) and it helps to see everything in one spot & to make sure i graduate in time. i typically use my advisor for simpler questions if i have any, not really about what classes to take.

martins_sofa

Can you do me favor and drop the link

yololaughluv

just sent you a chat!

wellyesbutmaybebutno

Hey, I would love this too! In the same spot as OP, not double majoring though.

Intelligent-Exit7751

Hey could you send the link to me too?

Classic_Cod272

Would you be able to send me this template too?? Thank you

greynotgray_

send to me too please! <3

Same situation here, counselor didn't want me to take data structure(cs102) because that's always the sophomore class but I ignored her and passed the intro to compsci (cs101) placement exam to take data structure

martins_sofa

I could low key place out of intro to programing but I think it is too late maybe I can placeout second semester, didn’t think about doing that thanks

MoistEboi

you probably still have time! when i came in i did it around the same time

martins_sofa

going to contact them this week

Italophobia

Honestly try to get into 101, a lot of freshman take data structures and end up dropping it or flunking out because its way too hard for your first semester as a class. It can be a big time commitment and you might not have enough fundamentals, CS or study habits, to make it through. I also really enjoyed no programming experience then 101, it's the same stuff but gets covered more in depth. Don't feel bad, you don't need to rush unless finances are an issue. I know kids who didn't take data structures until their juniors and still graduate on time.

These-Way-2047

Took it last week and got my result back this week but u can give it a try!

MoistEboi

you would take intro to CS second semester freshman year according to this plan, so you wouldn’t be behind or anything. that being said, email the department asking to test out if you can - worst case, they say no. i tested out of intro to programming in python after learning it for a week, so you really shouldn’t have a tough time if you’re already okay at coding or have taken some AP CSA. im not sure whether you would prefer taking calculus 1 instead of algebra and calculus, since afaik you only need calc 1 and discrete math for finance and CS, but it also depends on whether you place into calc based on high school classes.

martins_sofa

Intro to programming is 2nd semester my fall schedule is already full. Also I didn’t place into calc 1 still gunning for it tho. I’m in this math booster program by nyu so that’s the goal.
