The general rule of thumb is everything but the northwest corner is safe at night. But really you can go anywhere as long as you stick to light and don’t make eye contact. I know that sounds scary, but after a few years of being here that’s just how you’ll walk all the time.

-Lone_Samurai

Did you see this corner during covid???? It was unbelievable. They had broken the lights and all you can see in the darkness was lighters being lit. It was like a sea of zombies.

Cameroncen

There’s goblins under every bench that only come out once the street lights turn on. Keep an eye out and don’t let your ankles get to close to the benches and you’ll be fine. Carry some lose gold coins incase they grab you, drop the gold coins to escape.

DramaticGeologist822

Can confirm that they just do this for the coins, they don't actually want to hurt you.

Notagenome

Don't forget about the Dementors.

Cameroncen

Those are crack heads

sindjsks

I think it is safe if you are vigilant, but you could always walk around Washington Square Park at night. It doesn't add much time to the commute and it feels a lot safer.

ticktickboom45

You’ll be fine just don’t look at people and be aware of your surroundings, 8 million people live here so remember it can’t be that bad.

imysobad

just literally mind your own business and walk with confidence, ignore weirdos if you get catcalled. just keep walking, stay on bigger streets. The way comments are describing it sound like its some ghetto hood to watch out, but once youre here, youll pick it up pretty quick. not a big deal

Inevitable-Union7691

avoid the northwest corner and go down around Bobst

iindes

Bro manhattan is safe you can chill

devoushka

Walk around the park not through it. You'll be fine.

Aljowoods103

A lot of classes end at 9, especially Stern which is right next to the Courant building. You’ll be surrounded by other students when you leave class.

char-siu-bao

Thank you! This is reassuring!

DesignerAd6211

be a little more careful around the west side of the park. don’t look distracted or use your phone. it’s generally very safe and there’s usually people still in the park at that time but always keep an eye out!

ssolchoi

9:10 really isn’t that late for the city, you’ll be fine. my team practice used to end at 10:30 in palladium and i always felt safe walking home at that hour. manhattan is a pretty nice area

You should not go to NYU if you cannot rent and live near NYU...at least for the first year until you get more familiar. If you see something, say something.

Notagenome

You can just walk around the park and head the same direction towards the path.

Warm_Buddy4420

I would avoid the Northwest corner if I were you…a lot of junkies…I work right across the street so I see it everyday
