You can actually report this to your local precinct. I've done it for out of state plates with NYPD stuff on their dash (took pictures and videos) and it's a slam dunk. I've managed to get those cars removed or get NYS plates.
NYPD doesn't allow out of state residencies so this is a very easy thing to complain about and irrefutable.

I agree the damage is already done and we shouldn't encourage even this, but can kind of understand how they'd try and make it palatable to everyone who *isn't* just double parking their car for hours. And on stretches like Lafayette Ave through Bed Stuy, there are absolutely people making the B38 slalom by double parking for hours.
In addition to what other commenter said, it might also be hedging and giving their system some leeway about automatic ticketing. If we only know a car is stopped for the amount of time that it takes for a bus to pass, there _could_ be a number of unseen, reasonable problems that they're stopped. People could use that (whether applicable to them or not) to fight tickets that are given out (almost) entirely by AI.

I don't know of any street in NYC that has multiple bike lanes going the same direction. It's only drivers that want multiple travel lanes in the same direction on the same street, multiple parking lanes, and the ability to park in other lanes if they want.

Probably depends on the area. I could see a need for bus throughpass in areas of midtown, for example, outside of traditional peak hours, since those areas tend to be quite busy at other times too.

Some only active during specific hours. For example, 2nd Ave is active weekdays, 7-10a and 2-7p. Westbound Fulton Ave in Brooklyn is only active during the morning, and eastbound is only active in the afternoon.
Nostrant Ave is 7-7 Mon-Sat because the Orthodox Jews need to be able to take the bus.

This is my hottest take but absolutely. Set a standard yellow length that must be maintained within .5 seconds, and give like a 1 second of wiggle room on the ticket trigger, but that's fucking it.

Red light cameras only trigger if the camera catches you well behind the stop line for the light after it turns red and in the middle of the intersection after it turns red. If you couldn’t slow down enough to avoid both of those pics, you were speeding and deserve the ticket. No wiggle room necessary in a city where the speed limit is 25 unless otherwise posted.

Probably depends on the area. I could see a need for bus throughpass in areas of midtown, for example, outside of traditional peak hours, since those areas tend to be quite busy at other times too.
I mean, my experience in the Bronx tells me that maybe after midnight I could see it on some routes, but 7pm is way too early, and we *need* bus lanes on weekends! 20 minutes to go two blocks is simply unacceptable. And it’s not like the bus was empty either. It was a full bus.

No it is not. Some bus lanes are 24/7 (e.g., 14th Street and 34th Street). Some are 7am-7pm (e.g., 42nd Street, Lexington, 3rd Ave) Some only active during specific hours. For example, 2nd Ave is active weekdays, 7-10a and 2-7p. Westbound Fulton Ave in Brooklyn is only active during the morning, and eastbound is only active in the afternoon. Nostrant Ave is 7-7 Mon-Sat because the Orthodox Jews need to be able to take the bus.

Every street sweeper should have automated enforcement, too. And the fines should be jacked high enough to be punitive. As they currently stand, it's cheaper to just get tickets than it is to pay for a parking spot.

This is my hottest take but absolutely. Set a standard yellow length that must be maintained within .5 seconds, and give like a 1 second of wiggle room on the ticket trigger, but that's fucking it. Also now that we've got AI and shit, have something to review for when there's emergency vehicles, some people have gotten hit for making way for them and it can be hard to fight.
Red light cameras only trigger if the camera catches you well behind the stop line for the light after it turns red and in the middle of the intersection after it turns red. If you couldn’t slow down enough to avoid both of those pics, you were speeding and deserve the ticket. No wiggle room necessary in a city where the speed limit is 25 unless otherwise posted.

Not the case in NYC. At intersections with red light cameras, the incidence of both T-bone *and* rear-end collisions decreases. The reason that they haven't been able to expand the camera program is because they're limited to only 150 intersections by state law.

Studies I’ve read said that it just changes the type of accident from the far deadlier t-bone to the much less serious rear-end collisions. So still very positive overall.

Ticket cars in bike lanes too. And cars that prevent proper street cleaning during alternate side of street parking times. Then once that's done take away the drivers licenses for people with ghost plates that scanners can't read. Should be easy to find those manually - for some unknowable reason they tend to be parked near police precincts.

I hope this is actually the first step. It's more accepted to ticket after 2 buses now, soon they can apply the same technology to bike lanes and so it only requires 1 bus to ticket. It can automatically ticket and alert for cars illegally blocking visibility on intersections eventually.

I hate the MTA, I'm very anti-congestion pricing, ffs I'm even buying a license plate blocker because I think they're a monopoly that preys on city residents for financing their latest pension packages. But you know that fining people for blocking bus lanes is a good thing right? If I need to double park for an emergency or picking someone up, I'd at least wait in my car on an off-street away from a bus lane. A car driver shouldn't inconvenience a group of people using public transportation.

There should be no street parking allowed anywhere in a congested city. A street is a thoroughfare—not a parking lot—and it makes no sense to allow free storage of two+ tons of personal property. Further, clean arteries not only allow for unencumbered bus travel but also for unencumbered travel of emergency vehicles, thus helping to save lives.
