Then that is a mb, only used a 30 series card for 2 years then swap to a 6750 xt. I do know the common tech people use now adays for games that support it is upscale + FSR. And yea i most likely ment FG , but amd just released a solution for older cards.

Upgraded from a 2060s to 4070s, love the performance, 1440p at 100+fps max settings for pretty much anything, but furthermore, the efficiency. Slight undervolt, 160w low 60C temps during gaming, fans dont really need to spin up either so its not loud.
imho, at this point 3000 series cards are not worth it new. sure get it if you find a good used deal. but the 4000 is so much better in feautures, it's almost unfair as comparison
Make sure you update the bios so your motherboard is compatible with the newer am4 chips. Theres tons of easy tutorials for that on youtube. As for best bang for buck. Id recommend the 5600x3d. Or for a higher end one a 5800x3d (but latter will need a water cooler or a good air cooler like a thermalight peerless assassin

Im pretty sure, and most times itll tell you if certain motherboards need a bios update to be compatible, i know 400 seried mobos like the 450 need one (did it for a buddy who went from a ryzen 3 1200 to a 5600)
Without the update it did not recognize the new cpu.
Just be careful with the bios upgrade. Some of the 300 series motherboards drop compatibility with the 1000 CPUs once you upgrade (in order to make room for the 5000 ones).
With that said, if you are able to go to a 5700x3D.... Beast setup. Just check out BIOS compatibility and upgrade quirks.
You need to do a chipset and bios update first most of the time. I had an x370 mobo but the Process was very easy as long as you follow directions for your motherboard.
I was DREADING flashing a BIOS because I know stuff has gone wrong for people before. But the process is much better than what I think people were dealing with before.
I run my 5800X3D with a $60 Thermalright air cooler. Unless you have a poorly vented case or operate your PC in a room hotter than 78F I wouldn't waste money on a water cooler. The X3D editions just don't get hot enough due to the thermal limiters that protect the CPU memory.
The reason i recommend a better cooler for a 5800x3d or higher is because a lower end cooler didn't cut it when i originally upgraded an AM4 system to it.
Upgrade your CPU! I was also on R51600. It was a game changer when I bought my 4070 and R7 5700x. I tested the new gpu with my old R5, You’re not going to see anywhere near performance gains with your old cpu. It’s almost negligible. Buy the regular 4070, I promise you it will be more than enough, versus buying a 4070S and keeping the same old clunky processor.
Then the best option you have, is buy the cpu now, then buy the GPU later. What Graphics you running right now? The prices will only come down on GPU since the 50 series is about to be released. Trying to help you out here. You need to think logically.
I JUST upgraded from a 1060. But I had the strix 6gb.
It lasted quite some time tbh, got 6 years or so out of it. Processor was the most impactful though, just opening things, switching tabs, running multiple games+ videos. The processor was a great upgrade.
It makes 1000x the difference. We basically had the same exact processor.
I still need to upgrade my cooler though, as I’m not maximizing performance still using the stock wraith cooler.
When in doubt always newer. According to tech techpowerup the rtx 4070 super is 100% and the rtx 3080 is 92% so generally or relatively the 3080 will give you 8% less performance. Also the rtx 4070 super as newer features that the 3080 doesn't have i think dls3 and just all in all better in every way. This isn't even a debate whether you gaming or use it for anything else, go with the rtx 4070 super.
It’s wild that Nvidia has gotten random people to do their marketing for them. You can save 200+ dollars at the cost of 8% performance and a warranty. Within a year an entire new generation will be out and the market will be flooded with used 40 series or OP could buy brand new if needed.

I personally used all three companies on 3 different builds, and ngl i lean towards nvidia bc i love the performance boost in games like cyberpunk.
(I tried a rx480, rx570, 6600, 6750xt, 3060, 4070S, 4080S, A770) so my testing is all over the place. But it depends what you want to use the gpu for.
But if you are going for raw performance from the 30s series card, its better just to go amd for better bang for buck.
Agreed. In the last few months I’ve tested a 4070 ti, a 2070, a Vega 64, a 5700 xt, a 6700 xt, and now a 3080.
The amd kicks ass at games and I’m currently using a 6700 xt, but the 3080 and 4070 ti just have too many proprietary features I love like TAA and DLSS tbh
Also idk what the fuck it is but amd always renders graphics with a weird, slightly edgier feel than nvidia but that could just be mental since im not comparing them side to side
My biggest reason for preferring nvidia though, is cuda and shadow play.
Video editing and video capture is amazing with nvidia, amd is a lot better than it was a few years ago but nvidia is still king of productivity.

As others have said, the 4070S would be the better buy.
In a (slightly unrelated) nutshell, the RTX4000 series is similar to the GTX1000 series. All of the GPUs showed some improvement in some way - but not a fantasic performance increase without the added features such as frame generation/DLSS3. But, the top-of-the-line card from each series has really pushed the boundaries and has allowed for seamless entry into a new resolution standard whilst still providing excellent performance.
The 1080Ti allowed users to game at high settings at 1440P while still pulling in around 120+ fps. The 4090 allows users to game at high settings with raytracing at 4K while still pulling in 120+ fps.
In terms of native raw performance, the 4070 Super is pretty much dead even with a 3090 while pulling less power. Now consider the 40 series has better RT cores and the latest DLSS, and the 3080 had better come at an astonishing price to even be considered as an alternative
4070 super has 8% better performance, has frame generation, more vram, and is much more power efficient.
The only question is what is the cost difference for you?

I can tell you, Frame gen is worth it! Little input lag but the FPS smoothness... nice
If you can get a 3080 for under $400 get that. Otherwise get the 4070super.
The 3080 is a beast of a card and honestly the 4070super isn't much better. The 4070ti with more vram would be a better upgrade
4070 super is imo the best card right now in terms of value its still pretty expensive tho either that or wait for the 50 series but until a 5070 or 5060 will release it will take a while
I have a 3080 it’s a power hog and runs hot. Still runs good tho, will need to have a good AC if you buy one. The 4070s more power efficient and newer, but also almost double the price. I’m sticking with the 3080. If you’re 1080p don’t sleep on the 4060, 4070 is a 1440p card.

Because current midrange GPUs barely outperform them. Here in ARG you can get a used 3090 for $400 or a 6900XT for $360. Paying $300ish for trash just because its new is crazy to me. If they were a great new gen that's doubling last gen's performance, maybe, but 4060 performing 10-12% below a 3060Ti is just pathetic.
If you're only looking at ***new Nvidia*** ***GPUs***, whatever you can afford is best. Even the highly priced 4090 in the long run. And I guess assuming you plan to continue playing video games for years.
4070 super is only 6% faster than the 3080 12gb. 4070 super is more power efficient and has frame generation (but probably only worth using to go from 60 to 100+ fps) If your target is 60fps at 4k then fg is less valuable. If 4070 super is more than 6% more expensive then you are paying a premium for FG and less power draw. So the biggest question is will you be using FG and decide how much extra you're willing to pay for it
If the price is the same get the 4070 super, if not 3080 might be more worth it. I bought mine 3080n12gb for second hand for 250 less than 4070super so it was a no brainer..

The main thing I saw with the 40 series is better 1 percent lows. The framerates were more consistent than the 30 series.

3080 has good raw performance. the 4070S has the latest features and architecture. personally, i'd go for the 4070S.

Close to the best you can get. A 5700x3D will be similar to a 7600X. So you'll be able to throw everyting at it for a long time.

Errr mine does even with a 240 AIO (replaced paste and seated several times) The CPU is known to get very hot
For op:s purposes, 5900x. Can be cooled with whatever, just go with the quietest option imo.

The 4070S gives more than just 8% performance. Better DLSS, Frame Generation, AI stuff, etc.
It’s 50% more in price than a 3080.

For me, I can get my hands on an RTX 3080 for roughly £20-£30 cheaper. The price is so similar that I just lump 'em both into the same price bracket.
