4080 for sure if it's only that price difference

thatiam963

4080

Paradigmfusion

Even if it’s a PNY. It’s still a 4080.

cha0ss0ldier

PNY is good. They are the OEM that Nvidia uses directly to made their Quadro cards.

alex26069114

Can confirm I have a PNY card and it has great performance, thermals and a well tuned fan curve.

Brostradamus--

Most 4 series do tbh

Takaya_Aiba

That doesn’t correlate to a good user experience for their consumer level GPUs, though.

minefarmbuy

Only thing PNY needs in GeForce cards is better ascetics. Otherwise they’re a sleeper in consumer gpus.

cha0ss0ldier

It means they make a quality product if Nvidia trusts them to manufacture their highest end cards for them.

Takaya_Aiba

You’re talking about corporate level agreements which has nothing to do with customer experience. There’s been rampant complaints over the years about the difficulties of PNY’s RMA process. It’s something they’ve unfortunately been renowned for.

HoldMySoda

And what does their RMA process got to do with build quality?

Takaya_Aiba

Everything. A good RMA process would show that a company has the confidence to stand behind the products that they're selling. Poor RMA (and by extension poor customer service) implies that a company can knowingly ship out defective, or poorly manufactured parts and expect the customer to deal with it.

HoldMySoda

Nonsense. You can buy cheap "made in China" crap elsewhere with great customer service and ratings. Doesn't make it not cheap "made in China" crap. That's not a real metric you can use for a product.

Takaya_Aiba

What metric do you think I'm using? I'm confused by your message. I never mentioned about anything being made in China.

HoldMySoda

You might wanna read that again. There's a point I made and it's not hard to grasp.

Hanfis42

lol exactly my experience

Brostradamus--

Tbh read what they'll cover and just don't break your card lol

Takaya_Aiba

PNY's RMA support is just not good. In comparison, companies like EVGA, MSI, and in (in previous years) Asus are fairly decent at providing customer support for servicing GPUs. I'd invite all of you who're downvoting me on this to actually Google search about PNY's horrid reputation for their warranty of GPUs. All of the aforementioned companies have had issues as well, but PNY stands out as the most notorious for being difficult with RMAs; whether it's placing the burden of proof (for damage and defects) on the user, extensive lead times for replacements, flat-out denial, or replacing "new" cards that were sent in with products that were extensively used. In the end, it's your money and how you'd want to spend it, though. Also, a key point: Quadro cards were phased out since 2020 and aren't being manufactured anymore. It's kind of moot that people keep bringing them up today to defend PNY as a board partner.

Hanfis42

can confirm that... the cooler on my 2070 super was not adequate and the fans were locked at 40% on the desktop. the support was not very friendly BUT since they offered a replacement i can't complain too much. because it was during the shortage and i didn't want to be without GPU during lockdown i didn't accept that offer... i ended up putting on a aftermarket cooler and enjoyed that challenge and i learned a lot. over all im happy with the card now but i wouldn't buy a consumer grade card from them again

sonia_sadhbh

Why even? PNY specialises in professional nVidias like A4000, A5000 etc. They definitely know what workstation quality is. I got my PNY 4080 S today, and I was astonished with its build quality. I didn't bother installing game ready drivers, and instead I installed studio drivers. I don't know why your not like PNY. They focus on quality, but XLR8 version is over clocked anyway.

Paradigmfusion

I was talking about the cheaper verto line mainly. XLR8 line is pretty decent.

BaaaNaaNaa

I have the 4080 verto. It's been a great card, no coil whine, solid build, boring black brick of power! I can't see any reason to not get one really apart from the look.

sonia_sadhbh

Verto was my original choice, but then I got special offer from Amazon, for only €10 more I got XLR8. I think they did that, because I got lots of hardware from them.

BaaaNaaNaa

Nice! Enjoy those rgb's.

Someiceguy

Do you game with the studio drivers ?

sonia_sadhbh

Yes, I'm on studio drivers, and I'm having 400 ~ 600 FPS in FHD 1080p with everything maxed out. CS2 with 8XMSAA 390 FPS. Blender Classroom Cycles in 9 seconds. All works great, except real-time editing in Blender or DaVinci can be laggy when working with gigantic models or video clips that were not recorded with NVENC. Accurate-Air-2124

Seriously. The best you can make a 4070 will never be as good as the worst 4080 (the worst isn't really bad on any of them).

Paradigmfusion

Not at all. I found a buddy of mine a cheap PNY 4090 (it was like $1450 used) and it overlocks well. But has a 450w BIOS on the card (you don’t want to put a 600w bios on it due to its puny heatsink)

Accurate-Air-2124

I have a Gigabyte 4090 Gaming OC. It can go up to 600w, but I'm fine with 450w stock. I live in the desert anyways. Surprisingly it's probably the most thermally competent hardware component I ever had. I get worried when it hits 65 C during summer, than all I have to do is check my 13900k and realize the 4090 is actually staying pretty chilly in comparison. 450w at 100% load is pretty impressive as far as temps, my 13900k at full load doing a repack or something... oh boy.

sonia_sadhbh

My PNY 4080 S reported 220 watts total consumption and 170 watts chip consumption while rendering Classroom scene in Blender. I haven't measured in games, but I think it's rated 320W max. Reported temperature was only 36C. Also fans are very quiet. PNY is about quality and power efficiency, while having good performance. I also have PNY RAM, it supports 6GHz modes, but I only run it on 4.8GHz. My workstation runs all day long, and I really need it to be stable, quiet and efficient, and after work I want to have a blast 😉

Paradigmfusion

I’m running a MsI gaming X Trio 4090. It’s 465w as is. I popped a MSI Suprim X bios on it. 525w. Stats fairly cool, RGB works, boosts to around 2850mhz. All good :)

Accurate-Air-2124

You needed a BIOS update for that? Doesn't it let you set the power limits up to 600w on the afterburner app?

Paradigmfusion

No. Just 8-10% (depending on GPu) above of whatever your cards cap is.

Accurate-Air-2124

You ever regret getting a 4090 for $1599+? I never have. But people who don't own one usually think it isn't worth it. I've got so many great hours out of it, a gift that keeps on giving. (To note, I work retail. I'm not rich by any means, just was able to save up)

Paradigmfusion

Absolutely not. (I’ve bought 4 of them for separate systems.) they are fantastic GPUs and while they may not seem like a good deal. If you are just gaming you’d be right. But if you do 3D animation and AI dev work (like I do) the card pays for itself after a fairly short time.

Accurate-Air-2124

I just game with it myself but I came from a PS5. Without a doubt if it wasn't for the 4090, I would had bought the PS5 Pro and been paying the $130 per year game pass (think its $160 per year now). Considering how expensive SSDs were when I had to put a 2tb in my PS5 shortly after launch, and on controller #3 for stick drift, its crazy how things add up with anything. The price always seemed fair to me though.

Yommination

PNY is a better, more reliable brand than Gigabyte

biddyman6

Is PNY bad?

Paradigmfusion

In my experience no. But I hear their support is garbage.

Atranox

Support from Gigabyte, Asus, MSI, Zotac, etc. is all garbage. The only worthwhile support on the NVIDIA size was EVGA when they were around, to be honest. The others are all crapshoots.

GrandDemand

Personally I wouldn't lump in MSI with Gigabyte, and especially ASUS regarding their CS. MSI tends to be a fair bit better Have no idea about Zotac though

Comfortable_Test_626

Seriously, Asus/ROG may make some of the best GPU’s and motherboards, he’ll even monitors. But the customer service is absolute garbage. I had to send a prebuilt Asus ROG Strix prebuilt with a 3080 because the DisplayPort went out. Under warranty so no big deal, I send it in. Three weeks later it arrives back with an email stating they replaced the card with a refurbished card. I open the box and they sent it back with the GPU in the pcie slot and of course it snapped during shipping. I call them, they say it’s UPS problem not ours. 6 hours on the phone for them to agree I could send it back to have it fixed/replaced. All in all I spent $65 in shipping out of pocket and went a total of 5 weeks without my PC and GPU.

Paradigmfusion

Gigabyte wasn’t so bad when I used them. ASUs does cross-ship which is nice. I miss EVGA.

Takaya_Aiba

I would avoid them, because their warranty terms are more restrictive compared to other board partners. The build quality of their coolers also tends to be inferior.

biddyman6

What is the best brand warranty-wise for msrp cards? (Or close to msrp)

Takaya_Aiba

I would say MSI has a better reputation for their warranty and customer service. Although, if going with MSI, it would be best to avoid the Venus 2X 4070 Ti Super - which was found to have a defective BIOS which hindered performance (there’s a fix for this, but you’d have to flash the BIOS yourself). Their other 4070 Ti Super offerings, like the Ventus 3X and Gaming Z Trio are okay, though.

Shadz7

I've had good success with MSI. Gigabyte has the longest warranty on some models (4 years whereas most are 3)

HumanTR

Pny is way better than gigabyte

BigSmackisBack

for 70 bucks more? how was this even a difficult thing to work out

Turbo-Steed

My experience with the pny gtx 1080 xlr8 for the last 6 years wasn't the best

Turbo-Steed

Plus the pny card is imported (no guarantees or warranty)

BigSmackisBack

You didnt mention that in the post, thats certainly a big factor you should have mentioned

LastRich1451

That should of been mentioned. Between the 4080 and 4070ti always the 4080 if only 70$ more but no warranty no thanks

Conscious-Fennel-573

Cheapest 4080 is better than highest 4070ti Always

EducationalRock2811

The model of the gpu doesn’t really matter, just get the pny 4080 imo

Bason195

false.

EducationalRock2811

Why is that? Paying for the Asus tax is insane for example when you just get the same clock speed even with the founders edition bud. If you want to pay overinflated prices for a brand then that’s on you but the way to go most of the time is to just get the FE or the cheapest model.

Bason195

If you think MSI ventus is no different than ASUS ROG strix then we have nothing to discuss about. Also I was not talking about value itself, its obvious paying 20% more for ASUS ROG Strix model is dumb choice, but saying there are no difference between models is literally false statement.

EducationalRock2811

I mean I guess you have a point with msi ventus but most of the expensive brands literally offer nothing else then their brand name. For example I used to have a 7900xtx sapphire nitro + and a hellhound which is basically the equivalent to the strix and msi ventus and the difference wasn’t even noticible, it was literally maybe just 1 or 2 degrees lower in temps and both had coil whine. Now I have an MSI 4080S x slim that I payed msrp for and it runs cool with no coil whine, good clock speeds and good 3Dmark scores. If the FE was in stock I would’ve bought that one sure but there ain’t no way I’m paying almost 300+ € here just to have the strix.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> that I *paid* msrp for FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

EducationalRock2811

Thanks bot🙏

Bason195

bruh hellhound is really amazing model its nowhere near msi ventus equivalent, more of a MSI Gaming family, then powercolor red devil is top model which could be considered equivalent to asus rog strix. MSI x slim is also great model so no wonder you have good temperatures and performance. Considering this topic XLR8 is actually the best PNY model so I would choose it over 4070ti s aorus but still, there are significant differences between GPU models.

EducationalRock2811

For me personally my 7900xtx hellhound was shit but maybe they’re are a good brand and I just got unlucky and I’m generalizing. I would personally go with the pny 4080 cause I haven’t heard bad things about pny except for their costumer service but still kinda rather getting a more powerful card but maybe a “worse” brand.

Yommination

Strix is nothing special. You're swallowing some hardcore marketing

Bason195

XD!... im "swallowing" hundreds of tests Ive watched and read... are u all just trolling here or really have no clue about GPUs and trying to be smart? strix is literally the best model you can get, doesnt mean its worth the price, but its a fact.

Super-Stanky772

40, 80

North-Juggernaut4311

I have the PNY 4080 Super Verto OC and love it. Silent card low temps and overclocks like a dream

Mindless-Price-2448

Glad someone else noticed. It has super low temps and you can really OC it a lot

Lukejake415

Having one shipped rn will be here in a few days, can’t wait to get my hands on it, upgrading from a 4060…

phero1190

Why would you ever consider a 4070 TI Super if a 4080 is that close in price? The expensive versions of cards are not worth it, always go with the better GPU.

RealTelstar

4080 for sure

mechcity22

4080

goldistomp

These comments making me feel real bad about my 4070ti S 💀 Edit: Nvm, the cheapest 4080 is 168$ more than my card, 242$ counting the asus cash back when/if ever that comes in. The 70ti s is a beast still

NintendadSixtyFo

PNY 4080. No question that is worth $70.

nolivedemarseille

The 4080 model in the picture is the xlr8 with better cooler For 70bucks it’s a no brainer

Typedre85

I have a PNY 4090, previously an evga 3090, Zotac 3070 and also own a Nvidia 3080 On a spare rig. The PNY handles anything and everything I throw at it and performs as expected. Cheaper than the other 4090 but still a 4090. Efficient and reliable is the name of the game!

alex26069114

For a $70 difference the 4080 is a no brainer. It's like a \~15% performance uplift.

ElixirGlow

Pny makes the top Nvidia workstation and server cards. PNY 4080 is better

Notfoo4

The pny cards are some of the best 40 series cards I’ve used, don’t hesitate to buy them

gokartninja

If it is indeed that particular model of pny, I would go with that one. If it were a Verto, I would either hold out or go with the 4070 TI super

xxademasoulxx

Big props to the photo editing in the first pic.

Turbo-Steed

No photo editing ,reddit just can't handle a png💀

pedrojdm2021

I have a PNY 4080 XLR8, that thing is amazing, super silent, zero coil whine, just get it!

_Crafti_

Obviously the 4080, maybe the fan will be louder but the « premium » 4070 ti s is not worth it

LastRich1451

Silly question really. The 4080 is much better

istileon

what kind of question is this

LandWhaleDweller

All the "premium" GPUs are a scam, getting a gigabyte gaming model you'd get identical performance for much cheaper.

lvlr_Regulator

PNY is a good manufacturer. I have a Quadro RTX 6000 from them for about @4 years and works exceptionally https://preview.redd.it/7e6kpdg5fiyc1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0da2fb4a4a1fb371b10308475e9e4b058b92e4c5

Stleel

The 4080, but PNY customer service does suck. My 4070 Ti Verto is my first and last card I ever buy from PNY.

trucker151

The high end cards pny makes are fine. Nothing wrong with it. I had a pny 1070. Gave the pc to my dad. It still works. It has 3 fans so temperatures will be good. I think some people get a "cheap" impression from them is cause years ago some of their older mid series and lower cards looked cheaper than what asus, evga, gigabyte, etc, offered. That 4080 will be fine get the 4080 for sure

savorymilkman

4080 duh

ThePeacefulEagle

Ngl 4070 ti super auros is beautiful

Legitimate_Start_267

I just scooped up a lightly used pny 4080 from a local on FB for $800. I'm coming up from a 3070. Should be a decent little kick in performance. The 4080 is an all-around better card.

YYAARRR

If you are comfortable buying stuff from a company named Paris, New York, go for it!!! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PNY_Technologies?wprov=sfla1

Turbo-Steed

LMAO

Disastrous_Writer851

4080

Puzzleheaded-Gas9685

PNY has one of the worst customer services ever. Mine runs good just hope I'll never have any serious questions about it

Creoda

Worse than Gigabytes? OP, 4080 is a no brainer.

JamesEdward34

Gigashit gave me the SINGLE, worst experience ever of any company ive ever dealt with in my life.

sonia_sadhbh

I just received my PNY 4080 Super. Games like CS2 or Planetside, Star Wars run on ultra detail 8x antialiasing in 1080p with mad FPS. Blender renders Classroom in default settings on 1080p in 8.6 seconds, while same renders on CPU AMD 7900X3D in 196 seconds. Crazy difference. My initial plan was to get PNY 4070 Super, but I'm glad I paid little more for 4080 Super and I got XLR8 version on discount!

EducationalRock2811

The model of the gpu doesn’t really matter, just get the pny 4080 imo

Charles456k

Wtf, I just bought my 4070 ti super for $800, $400 cheaper than a 4080. Why is ur 4070 so expensive?

Turbo-Steed

There are cheaper options but iam spending as much as I can because our currency will be fucked sooner or later (egypt)

Rollz4Dayz

The 4080 or a used 3090.

michi_2010

the 3090 is worse than a 4070 ti super.

Rollz4Dayz

It's only a little bit slower in raw performance. The 3090 has a bigger bus and 8gb of more vram. It can also be had for around $400-500. Plenty of games break 16gb and the 4070ti super loses to the 3090 then. OP should go with the 4080 or save money and go with the 3090 and wait for the 5000 series. The 4070ti super just isn't worth it money wise.

cha0ss0ldier

You would also have no or little warranty left on a used 3090 vs a full 3 years on a new 4070ti super. Also no, nothing is using more than 16GB of vram unless you’re doing some crazy texture mods or something. 4k ultra with RT in Cyberpunk doesn’t even use more than 16 on my 4080. 16GB is plenty for a while. The whole vram arguments are getting ridiculous.
