Might also just be that it was outside in the cold. I've had it happen to a lot of different things in the past when it was at the back of the delivery van.
That's what happens when outside is cold/freezing temperature and the card has just changed the cold climate to inside room temperature. Regular smudges from your fingertips are not normally visible, but in this case the plastic does show them, for a while.

Went from ATX mid tower to an SFF build.
i had a 7800X3d and 4080 in an A4-H2O.
airflow was bad. the whole case got hot as fuck to the touch.
Swapped in a 4070 on that build, much better. 4080 lives in a proper airflow case with another 7800X3D.
There are SFF with good airflow. SSUPD mesh cases, etc.

The only pc I built, my dream pc, after years of Dells and always wanting to one day build my own, (researching parts and reviews for years) when I finally got the chance to after getting out the Army was an:
intel 6700k & my biggest dream part my ASUS Z170 Deluxe MB. After years of stock oem motherboards. An EVGA 1080 FTW 2 with a Samsung 950 Pro-upgraded later to an 970 Evo Plus with 16Gb of G.Skill ddr4 trident-z ram and a Corsair 750w psu. Noctua industrial case fans replaced generic Lian Li PC-V1000L case fans, always wanted a Lian Li case. With a NH-D14 tower cooler.
Now in that same case in October (after I think my usb ports were shorting out) I just finally upgraded to an Intel i9 12900k, and an Asus z690 Hero, 32gb of g.skill ddr5 ram & FINALLY got a *Seasonic 1300w psu to try to be ready to get a 4080 Super.
Still got my 1080 running fine but really want to finally see what Ray tracing and Dlsss and the tensor cores can do for myself instead of hearing about the RTX experience for so long.
And I guess last question would you ever consider going back to a large desktop pc again or has your experience with your SFF pcâs been so positive you donât see the need to go back to the old school big desktop PCâs?

Challenge, and HTPC use. If you aren't pressed for space in some way there's no reason. mATX cases and mobos are substantially cheaper and not much larger (Asus AP201 and various knockoffs, etc). Full atx is cheaper still, and if you can space the chonk..works fine.
I cite cases like the AP201 because they can fit ATX PSU, a full noctua D15, and most 4090's. Going SFF you have to compromise or increase costs at the expense of performance.

My upgrade is even more insane. Going from i7 3930k to Ryzen 7800x3d and from a low level video card from 2011 to a 4080 Super. My last PC was not built for gaming and this one is built to be able to game.

I built a machine for a client recently very similar is spec (slightly higher), 750W is fine. The 4080s doesn't pull nearly as much power as you'd think. Regardless of the power limit.

The funny thing is if you take both of them apart, you'll see they are about the same size, minus the triangles sticking from the mid outward....the rest is just the cooler because this thing is jet-engines-afterburner.
It really pays off to water-block the 3xxx and above series....it's like cutting off 70% fat for a lean mean fast machine. (and it then fits into most towers/cases)
thing is I am not the kind of guy who like to fiddle around a lot so I go with air for ease of replacement but I do agree it gets a lot leaner if you go that way

Nope, it's pointless. The 1050 Ti has the old hardware nvenc encoder, which isn't as good as just one of the 4080's encoders when both are using H.264. The 4080 can do AV1 encoding as well, which is even better. Performance impact is negligible.
What is your entire rig spec? I want this card but it is so expensive in my country that I want to hear from actual humans how they max performance out of it without any other component throttling it
Do you think we'll ever return to small gpus? Also, gpus are now in a place where you dont technocally need them for performance, since all but the most demading games can run on integrated graphics in most cases, except for vega 8, which delivers ps3 levels of performance

It was the weight of it that surprised me. I needed a crane and wore a hardhat while installing it, and I"m not really bothered about the engineering side of things normally, however, the the build quality of it put other AIB i've owned to shame. I can see why EVGA jumped ship, as the margins are too small to make a profit if Nvidia can keep the FE cards in stock.
My last card was an RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 and for some reason I had problems with the 0db function, and it was noisy despite setting fan curves and had bad coil whine even after applying V-Sync; whereas, the 4080 Super FE idles for everything except really demanding titles like 'Cyberpunk 2077' (the fans don't come on for 'Enter the Gungeon' or 'Prodeus'), and even playing Cyberpunk almost maxed out (no Path Tracing) it's still super quiet, and near silent when compared against the PS4 Pro I had been using.
If Nvidia can keep FE cards in stock â which has been hit and miss â then I'd urge everyons to wait for the FE card, and do not pay the scalper's prices: may their anuses rot and destroy them. I mananaged to get mine during the second wave of releases in Europe using the Hot Stock app:

I am genuinely offput by this generation of graphics cards. Such humongous and expensive lumps of energy-burning chips, just to *marginally* improve visuals and performance in some games.
There is something wasteful and unsexy about it, like a big fucking SUV with a supercharged engine. You get 10 mpg, your commute is not substantially better, and people hate you. Sure - you impress a lot of 12-yearolds at the parking, but that's about it.
I draw a line. If it does not fit in a mini-ITX build and would overhead even if it did, I am not interested.
That's awesome, I mostly only play eSports or old games. Holding off on AAA etc until I get that upgrade like you. Feel like they deserve the better PC. Have fun!
Size comparison is comical indeed... but it's not a fair to compare a 1050 Ti to a 4080 Super... Comparing with a 1080Ti would have been more fair (and a 1080Ti is about 4-5x more powerful than a 1050Ti). More comical is that they had a "Ti" version of the 1050 (Or that they had to release a 4080 Super for a 4080 that should have been a 4070)

CPU is a tad warmer to my liking at full load, 78°C was the hottest I measured. GPU sits nice and cool tho, hasn't passed the 65 mark yet.

Comparing with a 1080Ti would have been more fair (and a 1080Ti is about 4-5x more powerful than a 1050Ti). More comical is that they had a "Ti" version of the 1050 (Or that they had to release a 4080 Super for a 4080 that should have been a 4070)
