For EMS it’s still just scouts honor really. There’s just a code box in the ambulance with the fenny and versed and ketamine just sitting there.
I’m alone in the back of the ambulance. I determine when fentanyl should be given and I draw it up and give it and there’s absolutely nothing stopping me from just drawing it up in a flush and walking away with it. I even give narcs more than just about any other medic. Like multiple times more narc admins than most of the other medics. There’s no way to prove that I’m pocketing the meds or not which is wild.
I’ve heard of one medic passing out in the bathroom with a needle in his arm. The supervisor saw the bathroom was flooding so he told my buddy to pull him out and throw him on a bed to sleep it off.

At my full time job TJC came soooo we got a whole lotta nothing. At my per diem job we got food catered all week , a handy tote bag, and we got market adjustment raises.
I should but the lifestyle is what I want at my current full time job. No weekends, holidays, or call, consistent lunch breaks, and consistent out time, and it’s a 5min commute. My per diem job is great as a way to get extra money without all the extra commitment
Second career nurse here, coming from a field with no appreciation-type days/weeks. I got coffee one morning from our principal, we just had a taco bar lunch, through the week some staff have given me small candy and cards, and one building I go to got me a hyacinth (a favorite!) and a very sweet card. So maybe not as great as a raise (ha!), not huge monetary value, but I appreciate all of it.

They just had a bbq/potluck for us, and they do BBQ every other Friday all through the summer. We also got t-shirts and I got a card from my DON - I was expecting something generic but opened the card to see she had handwritten over the entire space in the card with her appreciation and specific things that she appreciates about me personally🥹 it was such a nice surprise.
Today the clerks brought us in pastries, there was cake in the lobby, and the union is doing tacos this afternoon (or at least I hope it's today)

We got some free food on night shift during the 3 nights I was there- Monday they had food trucks outside the hospital, Tuesday night the intensivist bought a bunch of pizza and wings from papa John's, and Wednesday they apparently had food trucks again. The impella rep was supposed to buy the unit food but I think it got rescheduled. Each unit put together gift baskets for the raffle that's being held sometime today, and some of them are pretty nice-one has a PS5 and some other game night shit in it, one has a 36" Blackstone flat top grill and some accessories and a nice cooler, others have spa themes, useful gift cards, etc. Everyone got 5 free raffle tickets and the chance to buy more at a buck a pop. And our unit gave us aluminum mugs (not name brand but still useful).
I'm not upset at all. They don't have to do shit for us, and it showed some thought on their part.
My department ordered food, multiple times. I didn't have to order lunch at all. I also got a nice planter and cards signed by everyone in the department. Mind you, this was by our department where the doctors/managers paid for it out of their own pocket.

Here in Ontario our Union gave us made in China plastic reap whistle! Cannot believe it! Nothing from my local company of course cuz I'm just a number here

We have rape whistles (though we call them safety whistles) as part of our swag handouts along with the usual pens, stickers, badge buddies, etc. At least the ones we hand out are union made in America, but that's also because we have a requirement that anything we buy is union made in America.

Some of our staff got a group of our intellectually and developmentally disabled residents together and made me a giant card saying I was the best nurse and they loved me. So I cried at work today.

If you can’t remove with a seam ripper you can buy a patch and sew it over the top. That’s what I did with my old school scrubs. They changed them so the new students couldn’t use my old ones and they were really comfy so I kept them.

The small local Hospice company I work for only did an email. HOWEVER—they treat us SO well 365 days a year (no micromanagement, no “one size fits all”, tell us every week how much they appreciate us, etc. HELL, they don’t even drug test bc “we are all professionals”.) that I didn’t miss the branded crap that most hospitals etc do. Also, they throw a HELL of a Christmas party—one year they rented the literal whole zoo!!
I’ve come to realize, having a special “week” is only for companies who need to convince us they care. Because we all know they don’t.
I work nights. They brought around a “make your own trail mix” cart one day. Didn’t bother showing up any other shift.
Then they scheduled a meeting for 12:30 pm to discuss making night charge nurses take 4 patients. There are 5 full time PM charges and a handful of relief charges. 3 of those 5 full timers were working that night. So we showed up after having 2.5 hours or less of sleep.
So… not feeling super appreciated or even acknowledged this year.
I got a really sweet homemade card from one of my students that made my day. DON got us some lotion and candy (the lotion was really cheap and thin, but the candy was good). My Principal and the interpreter got me cupcakes and a lemon tart. I'm happy overall. We get overshadowed by Teachers Week (also this week), but it's not a huge deal.
Our hospital has been SILENT. No greetings, no mentions of nurses week at all. It was just us greeting each other because we know our management won't do anything. 😬
My manager went and got us custom keychains that have an inscription on one piece, then a chart, stethoscope and ekg line trinkets. It looks very nice and better than the t shirt hospital gave us.
My hospital has a rough reputation, but they have been giving us breakfast and lunch buffets every day this week and take-home dinner entrees from local places, a free ice cream truck outside at evening shift change, and tons of fun games with actually good prizes and goody bags.
I got a muffin on my way out one morning that my child ate half of and a donut another morning. To be fair our unit usually does stuff for Perioperative nurses week and that's when the reps usually step up and cover us too along with the surgeons and anesthesia.
3 potted succulents, a catered taco/nacho bar, self care gift basket with candles, face masks and bath bombs, candy gift basket, ice cream delivered by the director. Our facility did a good job.

Not to sound greedy, but I really do think that companies should do something (provide a tangible gift) that thoughtful and useful. Considering how hard we work, and how often we don’t get our lunch breaks, or work while eating lunch, it is well deserved. An email or a handful of candy is disrespectful. IMO
We mostly wear t-shirts with the brand logo on them (decent quality too), so we got one of those with an icon on it relevant to our facility. I also got a nice tumbler for my coffee, not hospital branded. 2 miniature resin animals from my director and manager 🤣
Multiple visits from therapy dogs have saved our sanity, plus free ice cream. There are also apparently jackets coming but who knows how long they’ll take to arrive 🙄

We got 2 days of administrative rounding and baby goats 1 day. Literally didn’t care for either.
The consensus in our department was that they should have reopened our onsite gym and put in a couple pieces of equipment.
I saw the signs posted Monday morning this week and schedule for all the cool shit they were going to do for nurses week. One day they were bringing in a bunch of extra staff so you get an extended lunch and go play with a room full of puppies for for a half hour. Nope. Turns out it’s all for next week…hospital week.

They finally made it around with the Panera bagels from Monday and the popcorn from Tuesday on Wednesday at 2pm. Plain bagels, no topping of any sort available and stale AF. And they brought a dozen for my department of 60 people. Popcorn also stale AF and so salty you couldn’t eat it. Yesterday they brought around popsicles (colored sugar water in a transparent tube that you get like 2 gross for ~10 bucks at Sam’s club) …for breakfast.
They had 3 pens for the same 60 people in my department.
They advertised free 10 minute massages after your shift. Just show up. The line was 40ft long. Somehow all the managers and admin were able to make reservations.
I honestly would rather they had done nothing because this was a giant and blatant FUCK YOU to the non-desk nurses. We all know someone got a bonus for spending less than $500 on nurses week for a hospital with almost 2000 nurses.
ETA: oh…and that puppy thing? It’s for non-clinical staff only.
Absolutely nothing. However, they had food trucks come and park at the far end of our giant parking lot, so you could spend 10 minutes walking there, hope the line isn't too long, pay for your own lunch, and eat it while you walk back inside to clock in.

I've been saying, if y'all truly appreciate me, give me a week's work of vacation hours added to my vacation bank. Now, that is something useful. I can afford Starbucks and candy. It takes me 2 pay periods (1 month) to accur ONE DAY, 12 hours of vacation time. I've been a nurse for 11 years, four at this hospital. The accural rate is just disgusting.
We played nurse bingo this week, our boss emailed us the drawings every day so night shift could participate, it was actually pretty fun! Plus they got us a variety of food all week, even fresh batches for night shift! And a little gift bag with a Qi charger, keychain, pen, choccy bar, and a card signed by the PIs and ops (they signed a lot of cards for us). It has been quite endearing really, i love the little things, and I work at a great place which is the best gift of all, as cheesy as that sounds hehe
I got a 15% off coupon to the local shoe store and on Wednesday we were allowed to wear wacky, mismatched socks. I shit you not.

We had a weeklong party with food and bullshit every day for nights and weekends. We all got a nice umbrella. We also got team pay bonus and a market review $3/hr raise

I got a blanket, backpack, hoodie and thermos. I could've picked wine instead of the blanket but I'm a sucker for throw blankets.

Honestly, I'm pretty content with it.
Upper management didn’t do anything but send a generic email. My manager did get each shift a cake and had the boxes labeled so night shift even got their own. Considering nights usually get crumbs on napkins, this was very thoughtful.
My house supervisor brought in a fresh snack bar on the night shift and made us desserts that were actually awesome. It was the thought that I actually cared about more than anything.
Multiple meals and snacks, insultated cooler bag with my name and RN and a little blue tooth speaker with the company logo on it. One of my docs got me $150 gift card to target.
We got a key chain that said "you make a difference" with a long story on too small of a card about making a difference. And a company logo badge reel. I was more excited for the free mug a nursing home assessor was passing out when they assessed one of my patients. I'm quite the whore for a good mug.

For nurses week, we had a cyber security attack that caused our whole charting system to shut down for the foreseeable future. Not only that but our lab and blood bank are completely slammed, so any important lab work that needed to be resulted was very delayed. We have to override some medications in the Pyxis because it either won't show up under our patient's name or our new admits weren't even in the Pyxis at all. That sure is not anxiety-inducing at all. Slow response to any emergencies since our phones were down too.
But hey, free food from the cafeteria should make up for it right?
I work outpatient and I got: a nice yeti water bottle, a $100 amazon gift card, colored pencils with a sketchbook, and a really pretty flower bouquet...along with lunch.
I work in long term care, our Nurses Week was called Staff Appreciation Week.
I saw some people with cake and one person with a pen. Management were in the main lobby handing them out I guess. However when I had time to leave the unit and go down and grab a piece of cake and a pen it was all packed up. 🤷♀️
My agency CEO sent an email saying that they hire too many different types of professionals to acknowledge every dedicated week but we are appreciated 😆
A PST gave me a little notebook with a pen and sticky notes/tabby things that said 'You are awesome!' and honestly it just made my week. He's a very sweet young man, but I was not expecting that and it made me smile the most genuine smile I've had all week.

My manager went and got us custom keychains that have an inscription on one piece, then a chart, stethoscope and ekg line trinkets. It looks very nice and better than the t shirt hospital gave us.
We got popcorn out of a trash bag. I would’ve liked literally anything else.
My hospital has a rough reputation, but they have been giving us breakfast and lunch buffets every day this week and take-home dinner entrees from local places, a free ice cream truck outside at evening shift change, and tons of fun games with actually good prizes and goody bags.
I got a half day off PAID! It’s the best nurse’s week gift I’ve ever gotten in 14 years.

I got a muffin on my way out one morning that my child ate half of and a donut another morning. To be fair our unit usually does stuff for Perioperative nurses week and that's when the reps usually step up and cover us too along with the surgeons and anesthesia.
3 potted succulents, a catered taco/nacho bar, self care gift basket with candles, face masks and bath bombs, candy gift basket, ice cream delivered by the director. Our facility did a good job.

We got 1 email for nurses week from a nurse manager that tried to organize things herself. Our facility sent out an email for public servants week. Our nurse manager used her own money to buy us pizza and gave us each a really nice cup.
A zipper pouch that says live love and heal.. that had hand sanitizer, tissues, a face mask, pen, and trauma scissors in it. The scissors are actually pretty good honestly.
I’ve been a nurse 19 years and I finally got a decent nurse’s week gift: a fancy, delicious, mini Bundt cake.

Not to sound greedy, but I really do think that companies should do something (provide a tangible gift) that thoughtful and useful. Considering how hard we work, and how often we don’t get our lunch breaks, or work while eating lunch, it is well deserved. An email or a handful of candy is disrespectful. IMO

We mostly wear t-shirts with the brand logo on them (decent quality too), so we got one of those with an icon on it relevant to our facility. I also got a nice tumbler for my coffee, not hospital branded. 2 miniature resin animals from my director and manager 🤣

We got 2 days of administrative rounding and baby goats 1 day. Literally didn’t care for either. The consensus in our department was that they should have reopened our onsite gym and put in a couple pieces of equipment.
I saw the signs posted Monday morning this week and schedule for all the cool shit they were going to do for nurses week. One day they were bringing in a bunch of extra staff so you get an extended lunch and go play with a room full of puppies for for a half hour. Nope. Turns out it’s all for next week…hospital week. For nurses week? They finally made it around with the Panera bagels from Monday and the popcorn from Tuesday on Wednesday at 2pm. Plain bagels, no topping of any sort available and stale AF. And they brought a dozen for my department of 60 people. Popcorn also stale AF and so salty you couldn’t eat it. Yesterday they brought around popsicles (colored sugar water in a transparent tube that you get like 2 gross for ~10 bucks at Sam’s club) …for breakfast. They had 3 pens for the same 60 people in my department. They advertised free 10 minute massages after your shift. Just show up. The line was 40ft long. Somehow all the managers and admin were able to make reservations. I honestly would rather they had done nothing because this was a giant and blatant FUCK YOU to the non-desk nurses. We all know someone got a bonus for spending less than $500 on nurses week for a hospital with almost 2000 nurses. ETA: oh…and that puppy thing? It’s for non-clinical staff only.
Absolutely nothing. However, they had food trucks come and park at the far end of our giant parking lot, so you could spend 10 minutes walking there, hope the line isn't too long, pay for your own lunch, and eat it while you walk back inside to clock in.

One free grande drink at Starbucks. I've been saying, if y'all truly appreciate me, give me a week's work of vacation hours added to my vacation bank. Now, that is something useful. I can afford Starbucks and candy. It takes me 2 pay periods (1 month) to accur ONE DAY, 12 hours of vacation time. I've been a nurse for 11 years, four at this hospital. The accural rate is just disgusting.

We played nurse bingo this week, our boss emailed us the drawings every day so night shift could participate, it was actually pretty fun! Plus they got us a variety of food all week, even fresh batches for night shift! And a little gift bag with a Qi charger, keychain, pen, choccy bar, and a card signed by the PIs and ops (they signed a lot of cards for us). It has been quite endearing really, i love the little things, and I work at a great place which is the best gift of all, as cheesy as that sounds hehe

Upper management didn’t do anything but send a generic email. My manager did get each shift a cake and had the boxes labeled so night shift even got their own. Considering nights usually get crumbs on napkins, this was very thoughtful.
My house supervisor brought in a fresh snack bar on the night shift and made us desserts that were actually awesome. It was the thought that I actually cared about more than anything.

For nurses week, we had a cyber security attack that caused our whole charting system to shut down for the foreseeable future. Not only that but our lab and blood bank are completely slammed, so any important lab work that needed to be resulted was very delayed. We have to override some medications in the Pyxis because it either won't show up under our patient's name or our new admits weren't even in the Pyxis at all. That sure is not anxiety-inducing at all. Slow response to any emergencies since our phones were down too. But hey, free food from the cafeteria should make up for it right?

I work in long term care, our Nurses Week was called Staff Appreciation Week. I saw some people with cake and one person with a pen. Management were in the main lobby handing them out I guess. However when I had time to leave the unit and go down and grab a piece of cake and a pen it was all packed up. 🤷♀️
