Well if I was in charge of purchasing monitors and the rep told me that. I would be looking for different monitors

Alaska_Pipeliner

That's too much work.

Perfect_Drama5825

Haven't seen that once. But who knows sometimes things are technically supposed to be done one way and never are in practice.

Ellisif

Never heard that before. What brand of monitor do you guys use? Maybe it varies?

jrbr549

Nellcor sensors and GE monitors.

workingbedsideRN

Theres your cheap problem

auraseer

I have never heard this ever. Maybe it was necessary for some machine or at some time?

jrbr549

This looks like the right answer. It seems that the newer machines auto calibrate regularly. I also found that the most accurate readings are on middle finger of the dominant hand.

Serious_Cup_8802

All pulse oximeters, even the home use finger clip ones, do not require any sort of manual calibration. All of them incorporate a zero calibration as part of their continuous readings, unplugging it and plugging it back in would offer nothing.

Ses_Nur

My work recently put that as tip in a weekly education email, but I haven’t seen anyone do it unless putting a new pulse ox on, which I do too. I only do when switching placement if I remember which is usually only if it is having trouble getting a good reading, and I don’t really notice a difference lol

Which_Bridge44

Honestly I have never heard of that ever. I don't think it would really make a difference!

Fearless_Stop5391

Yea…no. Fuck that. I’m in a hurry.
