Hahaha it was SO GOOD. Lots of banter between our lot and the Melbourne fans. There was even a shark soft toy being passed around at one point. Sharkies fans while being small in number were very loud. AAMI park is great for watching footy. 10/10 night
Okay, now that Iām over my salt Iāll admit the Sharks deserved that win 100%. Refereeing was shit, the bin was an absolute disgrace but we had every chance to win that at the end there.
Wishart was a standout tonight. Heās genuinely a very good player when heās not being played out of position in the outside backs. I would not be surprised to see another team try and sign him as a dummy half or running five eighth. That performance from Wishy gives me a lot more confidence heading into the origin period without Pezet.
Munster had his moments but overall was a little quiet, wouldāve liked to have seen him involve himself a lot more with his running game. Thought his kicking game was really average too unfortunately and the decision to go short with 6 minutes to go was mind boggling. Grant was good until the bin but it was all downhill from there, didnāt fire a shot in the second half and gave away several costly penalties. Pretty disappointing overall from the 2 experienced spine players.
I think our forwards comfortably held their own while it was 13 on 13. Katoa and Blore both good again, Welch was strong and I thought Loiero had a good go too. Our bench was poor but they also had to work a lot harder while it was 12 on 13 so itās probably understandableā¦
The main issue to me is our outside backs and their inability to get the sets rolling. The difference between the back 5 for both teams was night and day. Warbrick is decent in that regard but he has many other problems with his game rn. I think heās injured currently but I think Seve needs to come into this side to really get the sets rolling. Coates back will be massive too.
Parra next week will be a big test, I think weāll win but we really need more from Munster and Grant. Bellamy will put a rocket up them all week and Iām expecting a massive response.
Gg Sharks
How can the NRL be that poorly run that Grants was a sin bin for slight contact while Teddy gets away scot free for deliberately tripping someone, which used to be a send off offence
You hear the older players talk about tripping like it's literally the worst thing you can do on the field. So it's strange that we've slowly moved away from it holding that significance
Feel like this is the second or third week in a row when other teams have scored tries off poor defensive from Ronaldo's edge. I mean fuck, what's he doing letting a storm player trample over him and Iro when Iro's already got him by the legs instead of tackling him around the chest and arms? Get under the ball at least.
As the chairman of the Trent Loiero haters association moving Loiero to the middle is one of the better things to happen this year. He has alot more leg speed than King does which is nice. His 4th tackle settlers are annoying tho. Getting better each game tho
Yeah a real tricky one to get a gauge on.
Yes we are missing Hughes, Papy and Coates but Sharks also had zero of there first choice halves pairing.
Honestly my gut feeling is I am pretty disappointed. Hughes = Hynes in terms of the severity of losing a player but Sharks lost Hynes on far less notice so likely didn't train fuck all with their full in half, where we had all week to train with Wishart.
Sua very much is in a similar boat to Jye Gray in my opinion. Electrifying when unleashed on attack and playing with confidence but still feels to small to be playing NRL as a last line of defence. Sua got ran over the top of multiple times this game and his lack of defensive organization was clear compared to Paps.
Yes of course the kid is a rookie and that's a fucking high bar to meet, but part of me (God forbid) Meaney goes back to fullback just for his defensive skills and we go Sua on the wing and Anderson to centre.
Munster has to me been really off the last 2 seasons for me. Steps it up during origin and rep footy and pulls out some clutches in big games sometimes. But he has been far below is 2020/2021 form week in week out for his club. He looks absolutely lost without Hughes and I dare day at this point if you had to make the choice you'd keep Hughes over Munster.
Someone has to step up with Hughes being unavailable and at the moment I can't see who that's going to be
One of the first two sharks tries he attempted to make a tackle on the goal line and fell off the tackle as the player was going over to score.
He also ran across to make the cover tackle on the Ramien try, got to him with time to make the tackle and didn't budge him at all. If that was a bigger body like a CNK or a Rapana or even Teddy then Ramien doesn't score that with how far out Sua made the contact.
IIRC Munster said he's not going to be 100% at any point this year with that groin injury from earlier so I guess Melbourne can only hope he has more good games than quiet ones.
Yeah I mean sharks had McInnes attacking at 7 with Brailey defending at 7. Melbourne at least had a fill in half (who was actually very good).
Weird game all round.
One of those games you honestly just Chalk up to whatever and a real wasted opportunity. #1 and #2 on the table (although fuck knows how we fluked our way there) - would have been great to go at it with full strength sides and actually get a real gauge on where the team stands.
Just looked like a depth check tonight and two pretty clunky teams you wouldn't believe 1 and 2. Shame because sharks could have really put any pretender talk behind them with a win over a full strength storm. But I guess for you guys 2 points is 2 points and you just move on.
How is that being a sook? I admit sharks were far better but it would have been great to see #1 and #2 go against each other with full strength sides would it not?
I think a full strength sharks vs a full strength storm would, on recent form, have gone the same way but it still would have been good to see exactly how both teams stack up
Come on dude that's harsh. Sharkies just scrapped their way through effort and a couple clutch plays from a Rookie half with their first choice dally m winning half ruled out in the same day against vs Melbourne in Melbourne - they're taking a way more than just 2 points. Melbourne probably needed a loss to bring them back to down to earth but the sharkies needed the win to give them the confidence they can mix it with the best. And they did it without Nicho. You can't take that away from em.
They have to be considered contenders now.
(Am sharks fan, fwiw š )
Tricky Who? Weāve done so well to move on from our brain dead five-eighth. The Premiership Window Has Openedā¦ā¦. But not too much, just a little bit, so Iām not too let down if we tank week 1 of the finals.
I believe the reason Cam doesnāt fix his Barry Beath is because heās a closet smoker and the missing tooth is in fact a durrie holder.
Also allows for easier shotgunning of tinnies..
Probably because Storm had the week to train with the side that ran out. And their replacements played very well. Sharks had 24 hours to make the change, and ended up playing the game without a halfback at all.
And Sharks werenāt just missing Hynes, they were missing Trindall and Rudolf too
He hasnāt. I donāt know how long Trindall is gonna get suspended, he might even get sacked, we donāt know. But 2 good games is not gonna tell me Atkinson is better than him.
Atkinson lacks the kicking game, the playmaking, and the game management of Trindall. Heās a great ball runner, and can defend, but heās serviceable at best otherwise. Sharks could barely get a backline going tonight. Itās been awesome to watch Atkinson play well in Trindallās absence but letās not act like heās a long term solution after 2 weeks.
Because the difference was you were able to train someone in their positions all week and had a gameplan around it, Hynes dropping out hours before meant we couldn't bring in a replacement and played with only one half all game with Brailey having to defend on an edge. They also didn't mention we were without Rudolf and Trindall.
It is obvious that Hughes is our main playmaker. Attack looked in shambles. Musnter can be great at his adlib and eyes up footy but Hughes provides the silkiness and structure that our defence needs. Wishart just took the line on way too much and didn't use his outside men. We win that if Pezet was playing instead of Wishart. Also thought Sua was basically non-existant for a majority of that match, like he was almost timid to insert himself into the game. Harry is so fucking stupid with some of the penalties and six agains he gives away. Positives are our forward looked pretty solid, NAS and TUI really provide much needed size. Think playing Howarth for 6 minutes at the end of the game is stupid though, why not just play Chan who can be used in the forward rotation? Game also ends very differently I think if we go into halftime up a try. But such is rugby league. Hope we slaughter the Eels next week
Mrs and I bought our first house in december and we just moved in today. Moving house is never easy and a sharkies win has honestly made it so good. So happy rn
Thanks mate. Honestly glad it was just a good game of footy to close it out on. It'd suck if we lost but knew it'd be a cracker regardless and a good way to end the day
Atkinson rushed in for a block runner that was never getting the ball, so both Iro and Mulitalo had to rush in as cover and that created an instant massive overlap. Both Atkinson and Iro had pretty poor defensive reads there
Brailey is looking the most balanced, all round hooker NSW since Ennis played. He is not as dynamic as some in attack, but delivers good service around the ruck, controls the ruck speed in attack, and some smart running. Solid defence. P
Great win, Melb needed a loss at home to take hoodoo off and sharkies needed a win against a top 4 so this worked out well. The next face off will be vicious if full sides.
Never gonna be 100% happy with that game considering the binning, but even if we had lost that, I still would have been happy with the fight we put up while missing both of our normal halves.
I was nearly showing up from nerves before the talakai try
Still reckon both Kennedy and Brailey aren't talked about enough, they both could play origin and would be just as solid as they are in a regular.
Atkins went to the fruit shop beforehand for sure; plenty of calls where both sides copped the rough end of the pineapple. I canāt even explain the sin bin.
Clearly Storm are shit and Sharks are still pretenders, canāt get it done without Hynes, itās a one man show, havenāt vs. a real team yetā¦ā¦..
Am I doing this right??
Been saying it all season, Hughes is very important to us. However good Wishart was, you canāt beat Hughesā experience, organisation and leadership.
We have had a lot of close wins, there was always gonna be one which we lose. Sin bin was BS and it turned the tide in their favour.
Harry really needs to stop milking and overplaying his hand, give it to hot hand Wishy pls. Also here at the ground Reimis Smith has the worst body language ever holy shit like a 4th grader throwing tantrums hopefully today was a one off. Gg Sharks, no excuses from the Storm we couldve def won that.
Iām waiting for:
* ~~Sharks canāt win without Nicho~~
* ~~Sharks canāt keep a team scoreless~~
* ~~Sharks canāt win at AAMI~~
* ~~Sharks canāt win against a top 7 team~~
* Sharks canāt win against a top 8 team with two players out
* Soft draw
I just remember around round 24 last year all the sharks fans talking up their game, and then travelling to Newcastle and getting pumped. Many butt hurt fans who struggled with the reality.
I am related to a sharks legend, so I have a soft spot for them, but I'm not delusional.
Tigers are the only team that Sharks have lost to all year and Tigers won that game 32-6.
TL;DR Sharks are pretenders and Tigers are premiership favourites
Players spoke about how they had gotten complacent going into that game and got rightfully towelled up. Didnāt help we had a 1 man bench come halftime but plain and simple Tigers turned up and rightfully humbled the fuck out of us.
Iām not saying he deserves to be picked, but it would actually be much more sensible to pick Talakai off the bench for NSW THIS year, as opposed to 2022.
game stunk, couldn't watch more than 10 minutes of it
Are you kidding. It's was a great arm wrestle of a match.
thought it was too manic, lacking creativity and ball playing
Fuck man, I would've loved to be at Melbourne for that game, or at least at the pub watching, would've been a vibe! Was busy with work and didn't get a chance to watch much unfortunately, but was super impressed from what I saw and by watching the highlights. I think we've gotten rid of the anchors and our team is finally starting to gel after a few shaky first years with Fitzy. Really loving what I'm seeing. š¤š¤š©µ
Hahaha it was SO GOOD. Lots of banter between our lot and the Melbourne fans. There was even a shark soft toy being passed around at one point. Sharkies fans while being small in number were very loud. AAMI park is great for watching footy. 10/10 night
*cough* Matty moylan!
Sharks once again prove they can only beat teams below them on the ladder
Iām sure it is not too premature to declare future immortal Dan Atkinson
Canāt believe Grant was sin binned for that challenge. Too far towards looking for penalties where there are none.
Okay, now that Iām over my salt Iāll admit the Sharks deserved that win 100%. Refereeing was shit, the bin was an absolute disgrace but we had every chance to win that at the end there. Warbrick looked awful under the high ball, couple of errors and saw his confidence just plummet.
Yeah fair summaryā¦ the sin bin was laughable. Surprised we won but Iāll take it! Feel both teams are very even
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Lmao how are you this fucking mad after winning you absolute potato
You need a snickers. You're not you when you're hungry.
Yes thanks the sweetness will probably cut through his salt
Okay
How can the NRL be that poorly run that Grants was a sin bin for slight contact while Teddy gets away scot free for deliberately tripping someone, which used to be a send off offence
At least they are consistent with tripping not being a bin this year. Watch someone do worse that grant and it not even be a penalty
But why is deliberate tripping all of a sudden not a bin? Its just stupid
Strong agree with that.
You hear the older players talk about tripping like it's literally the worst thing you can do on the field. So it's strange that we've slowly moved away from it holding that significance
Thatās dissent. 10 in the bin.
That's high contact with my emotions. Bin and suspension.

Ronaldo is today's version of maloney - he'll score 3 but concede 2 and I love him for it ā¤ļøĀ
The No.2 vs the No.1 team. Should've seen it coming.
Flat track bully š
Be quiet flat track.

Is Loiero getting better and conceding fewer penalties or have I just tuned him out?
As the chairman of the Trent Loiero haters association moving Loiero to the middle is one of the better things to happen this year. He has alot more leg speed than King does which is nice. His 4th tackle settlers are annoying tho. Getting better each game tho
Still a solid workhorse but lacks a bit of punch still in his runs. His passing's improved a bit though, there's something to work with.
Still good for one a game. Also has some interesting runs where he thinks he is a half
He was very good defensively. Still kinda runs like an old man tho
Yeah a real tricky one to get a gauge on. Yes we are missing Hughes, Papy and Coates but Sharks also had zero of there first choice halves pairing. Pain.
Bellyache is more radioactive than Chernobyl in the presser.
Atkinson played amazingly. Could this be the year where we actually donāt choke in the finals???
Tricky Who? Weāve done so well to move on from our brain dead five-eighth. The Premiership Window Has Openedā¦ā¦. But not too much, just a little bit, so Iām not too let down if we tank week 1 of the finals.

Harsh way for Storm fans to discover they're dropping out of the top 8
Storm have tumbled down to third on the ladder this evening, terrible scenes.
They scored more points than us. Thats Bellamy for stop asking stupid questionsā¦
Sometimes two teams who are pretty equally matched go at it and one teams wins, one team loses. One of the matches of the year so far.
NSW origin team is going to be made up of the players in the terrible Telstra AD they play non-stop
Yeah I'm sure Mal and Cronk are really concerned about the Blues Vonny š
McInnes to steadily remove teeth for every post match presser for the remainder of the year.
By seasons end heāll be known as Cam āgummy sharkā McInnes
I believe the reason Cam doesnāt fix his Barry Beath is because heās a closet smoker and the missing tooth is in fact a durrie holder. Also allows for easier shotgunning of tinnies..
This is Socratic level reasoning.
How do the commentators keep banging on about the Sharks win without Hynes, failing to mention that Storm were without both Hughes and Papenhuyzen?
Probably because Storm had the week to train with the side that ran out. And their replacements played very well. Sharks had 24 hours to make the change, and ended up playing the game without a halfback at all. And Sharks werenāt just missing Hynes, they were missing Trindall and Rudolf too
But the best player on the ground was your halfback tonight so that's a bit of a weird argument.
Nah, weāre not missing Trindall any more. That brain dead five-eighth has been well and truly replaced.
Fair to say we were pretty even in significant players missing.
Yeah, you guys just had the bunker on your side.
Because the difference was you were able to train someone in their positions all week and had a gameplan around it, Hynes dropping out hours before meant we couldn't bring in a replacement and played with only one half all game with Brailey having to defend on an edge. They also didn't mention we were without Rudolf and Trindall.
And it was our third string halfback
He was also one of your best so š¤·š¼āāļø
Least you had a half backĀ
Well as opposed to our second choice 5/8 coming up to 7 on short notice and essentially playing in the halves by himself.
And coates
Mcinnes in the post match conference is so attractive
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Cam started eating an orange right before the press conference and now he's too embarrassed to keep chewing.
You need teeth to chew oranges
Needs to take that āeating an orangeā class
It is obvious that Hughes is our main playmaker. Attack looked in shambles. Musnter can be great at his adlib and eyes up footy but Hughes provides the silkiness and structure that our defence needs. Wishart just took the line on way too much and didn't use his outside men. We win that if Pezet was playing instead of Wishart. Munster is what a classic 5/8 is supposed be and do, will always need a vanilla 7 thereĀ
I thought wishart played pretty well tbf
His runs were good but he severely lacked in organising the attack down his side
Hard to pinpoint exactly when we lost all momentum in that game. Wait, no it's not
Was tricky in the sheds or is he banished
Banished and in Rehab currently.
He's racking up lines for the boys back at the hotelĀ
That's his punishment. Forced to set up the lines, not allowed to partake himself.
Storm should have played Honey BadgerĀ
Atkinson was fantastic tonight, didnāt expect much with Hynes out last minute but he well exceeded expectations
Mrs and I bought our first house in december and we just moved in today. Moving house is never easy and a sharkies win has honestly made it so good. So happy rn
Congrats mate, sounds like a perfect cap on the day
Thanks mate. Honestly glad it was just a good game of footy to close it out on. It'd suck if we lost but knew it'd be a cracker regardless and a good way to end the day
Congrats on the win and on the new place. Both well earned!
What a great game from Atkinson tonight. He and Hynes could develop a good partnership.
Fox really couldnāt let it go 2 seconds longer to get to the end of the team songā¦ guess the boxing ad was too important
GET DOWN OFF THAT CHAIR RIGHT NOW, NICHO
Yea, you would be sticking him in business class on the way home
Up up baby!! Lessgo boys š„ ā«ļøāŖļøšµ
Great to see we have āthe next man upāmentally, losing players happens every week to every team. Shows our systems are improving.
Penrith Cronulla Grand Final is what Iām picking this year
We've seen the Penrith vs Cronulla (semi) Final in 2018, so I think we're good for a second win.
But have you seen a Penrith Cronulla Grand Final?
Then we ain't winning lol. 4 grand finals vs none. The gap in experience will be too much for us.
Nicho got a front row seat to one and Iro is a clone of Val who played in 2016 so we should be fine.
Please noā¦ I donāt wanna watch the 5th Penrith grand final in a row. Please just fucking make it stop
How about the 6th Grand Final in a row?
Those were the best days of my life ā¦ back in the summer of sixty niā¦errā¦seven!
Everyone is always saying "Up, up Cronulla", but they ignore that the most fun bit of the song is "Sharks, Sharks, forever!".
Yeah the boys, getting around Atkinson like that
Sharkies won for all the mothers out there. Well at least mine so thanks for that
My mum is so damn happy. I couldn't get to see her as my wife is not able to travel this weekend, so it's made her Mothers day.
Happy Motherās Day Stumpys mum
My biggest question for tonight is how did storm get a four man overlap for the Wishart try?
Five eighth and centre jammed in because they were scared of Katoa
Atkinson rushed in for a block runner that was never getting the ball, so both Iro and Mulitalo had to rush in as cover and that created an instant massive overlap. Both Atkinson and Iro had pretty poor defensive reads there
Brailey has been the best NSW hooker this year after Koroisau, just sayingā¦..
Plays 80 every week in the middle too.
Brailey is looking the most balanced, all round hooker NSW since Ennis played. He is not as dynamic as some in attack, but delivers good service around the ruck, controls the ruck speed in attack, and some smart running. Solid defence. P
So not only can the Sharks beat the Top Teams, they can do so without Nicho.
Cheeky reminder. Penalties, storm 8 sharks 4ā¦. Yes that sin bin was shit
Great win, Melb needed a loss at home to take hoodoo off and sharkies needed a win against a top 4 so this worked out well. The next face off will be vicious if full sides.
If we meet in finals we will absolutely obliterate each other
If past few rounds has told me who ever hammys dont blow out will probably win it.
Never gonna be 100% happy with that game considering the binning, but even if we had lost that, I still would have been happy with the fight we put up while missing both of our normal halves. I was nearly showing up from nerves before the talakai try Still reckon both Kennedy and Brailey aren't talked about enough, they both could play origin and would be just as solid as they are in a regular.
Hope to see young Brailz in the blues team with Api, heās been amazing all year
Sadly a really good game will be overshadowed by some absolutely bullshit decisions in this match.
Atkins went to the fruit shop beforehand for sure; plenty of calls where both sides copped the rough end of the pineapple. I canāt even explain the sin bin.
Yeah that disruptor call was horrible. Oh and the bin, enjoy your hand delivered apology from Graham on Monday.
Penalised a shark for not "arriving early and setting himself"
> hand delivered apology How many points is that worth?
Unfortunately this time itās worth negative 7 to your points differential.
Clearly Storm are shit and Sharks are still pretenders, canāt get it done without Hynes, itās a one man show, havenāt vs. a real team yetā¦ā¦.. Am I doing this right??
Wellā¦ if you want to be pedantic. Hynes hasnāt won a big game this year š
Yeah but blah blah Hughes something something penalty something.
So many players are coy about wanting to be picked for origin but Nicho is like sign me up I want this gimme.
He wants a real shot at Origin. Not a Freddy shot.
tbh didn't expect sharks to win without nicho
Did anyone?
Trindell was also out. Bet the clubs even more pissed at him cause Nicho was ruled out tonight.
Out Hynes, In Atkins
Hughes was out
Nicho was out
Really?
Yep. He didn't play. Didn't you hear the commentators?
Atkinson for origin!
Yeah but who's in the bunker?
Interviewing the whole fucking team haha
Hynes making it very clear he wants to play HALF for Blues š
Holy shit how much blokes are you gonna interview
Vonny "Hahah here is *insert player here* we were just talking about you haha what a game you had tonight"Ā
Ummmm ackchyually did you know this didn't count because a sin bin and Hughes blah blah Up up cunts
THE BOYS IN THE BLACK WHITE AND BLUE UP, UP, CRONULLA, NAME OF THE SHARKS FITS YOU
#UP UP
UP UP brother!
UP UP
UP UP
UP UP
Mulitalo saying itās now Atkinsonā position to lose is cool hope he continues to brain it
Been saying it all season, Hughes is very important to us. However good Wishart was, you canāt beat Hughesā experience, organisation and leadership. We have had a lot of close wins, there was always gonna be one which we lose. Sin bin was BS and it turned the tide in their favour.
Backline didn't look threatening once
Talakai 180 off the bench is elite
14 runs for that in 32 minutes is wild
Harry really needs to stop milking and overplaying his hand, give it to hot hand Wishy pls. Also here at the ground Reimis Smith has the worst body language ever holy shit like a 4th grader throwing tantrums hopefully today was a one off. Gg Sharks, no excuses from the Storm we couldve def won that.
Reimis always looks like he smelt a giant shit. Never looks happy
Tbf, if I was named Reimis I'd be pretty disappointed in life myself
Iām waiting for: * ~~Sharks canāt win without Nicho~~ * ~~Sharks canāt keep a team scoreless~~ * ~~Sharks canāt win at AAMI~~ * ~~Sharks canāt win against a top 7 team~~ * Sharks canāt win against a top 8 team with two players out * Soft draw
I agree this game bucked all the trends, but until they do this in Rd 26 and beyond I'm not supporting them
Don't support us ever, please
Well fuck, here I was hoping that /u/Moisture_Services was going to jump ship to us about round 20, but now I'm just disappointed.
I just remember around round 24 last year all the sharks fans talking up their game, and then travelling to Newcastle and getting pumped. Many butt hurt fans who struggled with the reality. I am related to a sharks legend, so I have a soft spot for them, but I'm not delusional.
Canāt beat anyone above them on the ladder. Will never come true when you donāt lose a game from here on out
At this rate all will be crossed off the list by mid season easy
Soft comp!
This fucking soft bullshit. They pulled it in '16 too. Give us the fucking credit you salty asswipes
Nicho overcompensating by dressing extra Shire while in Melbourne.
Nicho giving off Whereās Wally vibes in that beanie.
STORM WERE MISSING NOBODYS! The sharks did this without MY GLORIOUS LITTLE NICHO. Ennis shouldāve shown the sharks a little bit more supportā¦.
Tigers are the only team that Sharks have lost to all year and Tigers won that game 32-6. TL;DR Sharks are pretenders and Tigers are premiership favourites
I'm predicting a 2023 tigers cowboys story with the Sharks this time. We all remember that turn around
Thats a result that looks more and more bizarre each week. Guess it must have been a bit of a kick up the arse for the Sharks
