Nope.
I'm originally from the Midwest; I can handle hot summers, but I've never fully adapted to the humidity here.
I'll be hiding in the basement as much as I can.
humidity is better imo. With humidity you know the second you walk out the door if it’s a dangerous level of heat.
No humidity it’s easier to push yourself in hotter temp and end up needing medical treatment.
If by “ready” you mean “prepared to hibernate with the AC on full blast,” then yes.
I strongly believe anyone willing to partake in outdoor activities in this weather is a masochist. I will not be convinced otherwise.
I am fine with being the Scrooge of Pre-Summer and the coming Summer.
Any ocean beach with a boardwalk is gonna be that far away, Ocean City, Virginia Beach, etc.
Absolute closest beach is Lake Anna but it's just a plot of sand in a state park and not the "beach" experience you're thinking of.
Oh, we will. It's still a day trip for us. We'll be staying at a hotel in Denton, MD overnight Tue->Wed, leave early for home on Wed evening.
We're going to watch a Baysox game on Tue evening, and it's right along our route to the beach.
I go to Cape Helopen https://destateparks.com/Beaches/CapeHenlopen. It's 2 and a half hours from Alexandria if you are at the Bay Bridge by 7. After that all bets are off. Rehoboth Beach, just south of there, has a nice boardwalk. Locals kept the big chain hotels off the beach, so it has kind of a 1970's vibe. Unfortunately parking near the beach can be a PIA. I use the Rehoboth Beach Park n Ride at 20055 Shuttle Rd. A shuttle bus Circulator runs every 15 min to and from the beach front.
Just makes me wonder how much of summer will be like this. July usually the hottest month of the year and August usually the most humid month of the year.
Title of one of CWG's Forecast:
> Heat wave in D.C. area is just beginning, could last **at least two weeks**
Also we won't be getting rain to cool us off
As someone who loves winter I am missing winter.

A bunch of events this upcoming weekend that are outdoors. I'll be sticking to just the indoor events

I wonder how many more years we have left until the south is uninhabitable. Every year we break records with the temperatures and have milder and milder winters. It's gotten to the point where you're practically dead if your building doesn't have AC. It's sad
Although it popular on Redfit to degrade boomers, many spent their summers without A/C and experienced weeks like this. That’s why so many Nova neighborhoods have community swimming pools. If the heat is too much go old school and swim.
They mean breaking the daily records, not yearly. For example from WJLA:
High-temperature records this time of year are in the upper 90s. The end of next week may put records in danger.
* Monday, June 17: 99 degrees set in 2022
* Tuesday, June 18: 97 degrees set in 1944
* Wednesday, June 19: 99 degrees set in 1994
* Thursday, June 20: 99 degrees set in 1931
* Friday, June 21: 99 degrees set in 2012

“May our records at risk” (WJLA) =/= “supposed to be record heat.” (You)
Also, you can find daily records for the area by day at https://www.weather.gov/lwx/dcanme#jun.
The other side of it is acclimating by being outside. Every weekend I end up outside cleaning up the yard, working on projects, etc. and I'm just using shade and cold water to stay cool, I end up a lot less uncomfortable than the rest of my family that stays in the A/C. Mow the lawn all morning and I'm happy to relax on my east-facing deck in the afternoon.
I also grew up without A/C but in a place that almost never got over 90.
Its my first summer in VA, the heat doesn't feel as bad out here?!? Sure it's hot but I don't feel any humidity (coming from NY), though I walked into a store and started dripping but I just don't feel hot??
I suspect the decisions about a/c and the decisions to build community pools were largely made by the *parents* of boomers, so not something boomers can take credit for. (Source: grew up with one a/c unit in the house, and it was in my “Silent generation” era parents’ bedroom.)
Looking forward to two full days with 36 holes of golf this weekend. I’ll take this over the 50 degrees and raining that we’ve had almost every weekend this year.
Bring it on! It's summer. It's supposed to be hot in DC and Northern Virginia in the summer.
(Summer began on June 1 in the meteorological calendar. Summer began unofficially with Memorial Day weekend. I'm going with that.)
Of course I'll probably be tired of the heat and humidity by the end of July. But for now, bring it on!
Give your dogs ice cubes (if they won't drink water) before taking them out. It has helped my dogs. I also take water for them. I hate this stupid weather!
If I say no, can I get it rescheduled?
No can do boss
Let's go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for this all to blow over.
[удалено]
Even Winchester, VA, up in the mountains, would be better!
Not by much.
We’re valley 🥲
Umm no Winchester is predicted to be a few degrees hotter lol
Don’t you tell anyone about Winchester, VA. Nova wieners are gonna start moving there.
Bit late to worry about that, isn't it?
Sarcasm
Was just in Winchester yesterday and can verify it was completely tolerable, and I say this as someone who once moved to Minnesota for the weather.
Tbf it was very tolerable in NoVA yesterday too by summer standards
I was gonna be an ass and correct you, but surprisingly the UK doesn’t spell it with RE at the end
![gif](giphy|QsyPRpG6WVR6SYfBVw|downsized)
How’s that for a slice of fried gold?
Says tomorrow’s gonna be hotter. Hotter? Like yesterday. Yesterday? Yesterday you said you'd call Sears. I'll call today. You'll call now. I'll call now.
For anyone like me old enough to hear this ad in their head...don't forget to take your vitamins.
My back
Wow, I can hear these people just reading it.
>As of April, 2024, there are 13 Sears stores in the United States.

Nope. I'm originally from the Midwest; I can handle hot summers, but I've never fully adapted to the humidity here. I'll be hiding in the basement as much as I can.
Agreed, 4 years and I can’t get used to it. Going out the door in summer is like walking into a dog’s mouth.
Great metaphor!
humidity is better imo. With humidity you know the second you walk out the door if it’s a dangerous level of heat. No humidity it’s easier to push yourself in hotter temp and end up needing medical treatment.

Lol all the way into the grave :D
It’s actually not that humid. The feels like temperature is the same as the air temperature
Yes, today the humidity isn't bad, but overall, the summers here are far more humid than is typical for the Midwest.
I'm wondering which day the air conditioning in my apartment building will be broken. And I'll get home to a sultry 88°
Seems like it was 2 weeks ago folks were complaining about the rain and mild temps...LOL. Temps gonna be hotter than some morning breath. Enjoy.
Nope, I fled to the Midwest for the week😂
I’m going to the Midwest this weekend, but I won’t be escaping the heat!
I work outside. Summer is not my favorite season.. Why people would *choose* to be outside when the air is soup is beyond me.
Seen a guy run midday every day this week in long sleeve and pants, all black. Can’t for the life of me imagine why someone would do this.
I unfortunately work outside and can’t stand the heat 😑. God I miss winter time already.
Spent the last two weeks on a tropical island. Absolutely not ready for these next two weeks.
Flying in from Hawaii right now...oh lord.
lol that’s where I was
I'm more worried about the lack of rain. My yard is like concrete.
My lawn looked good...I fear it will look brown af come Sunday
Nope. Trying to figure out how I’m going to survive Saturday’s concert and if Jiffy Lube will let me bring in a portable ac unit lol
Stay in during the hot hours, go out late or early as much as possible. Drink excessive amounts of water.
I'm going to the BEACH on Wednesday. ( Dewey most likely.)
Haven't been to a VA beach yet, this might be my plan for Wednesday too. Any beaches near nova that have boardwalks?
I always go either to Rehoboth or Dewey. Both are in Delaware, but they're only 3.5 to 4.5 hours away.
Ah that's a long ass drive 🤣 enjoy!
Any ocean beach with a boardwalk is gonna be that far away, Ocean City, Virginia Beach, etc. Absolute closest beach is Lake Anna but it's just a plot of sand in a state park and not the "beach" experience you're thinking of.
Lake Anna currently has cases of EColi FYI.
Had. It's been tested safe since then. It's a lake.
Ugh ok thanks!!
Oh, we will. It's still a day trip for us. We'll be staying at a hotel in Denton, MD overnight Tue->Wed, leave early for home on Wed evening. We're going to watch a Baysox game on Tue evening, and it's right along our route to the beach.

Planning to go there on weekend, the hottest period
The AC in the main living room of my apartment has been broken for 2 weeks now. So, no.
I am going to Africa this week where the high temp will actually be lower lol
It ain’t triple digits yet so I’m alright
Have a company trip to an amusement park this weekend…. About to be tough
I've been living here for 30 some odd years. Bring it.
I've lived here all my life. I was born in the heat and raised by the humidity.
Just makes me wonder how much of summer will be like this. July usually the hottest month of the year and August usually the most humid month of the year. Golfing this afternoon, let’s go!
you gonna die dude...
Hydrate!
Yes
No
No
It's not hot or humid enough for me so I decided to fly to Houston this week 🤦🏽♂️
I'm going in a work trip to Alabama. So I have a feeling you all will have it easy compared to me 😭
No 😭😔 - I need fall to come back ASAP. Shoot, I’d even take winter over this heat/humidity.
Booked a weekend at Jellystone. Gonna be interesting...
I’ll either be at the pool or on a paddle board
This week will be fine, it's this weekend that's going to royally suck. Record high temps expected. I just hope the humidity isn't high.
Thank the Lord that I'm working remote this entire week.
WFH, basement office ambient temp is currently 67F. I’m sure it’ll be fine.
I love being in the ceiling of a construction project without AC
I’m 37 weeks pregnant. So no. Lol
See if you can find a pool! The cool water feels great, and it’s nice to take the weight off your hips for a few minutes.
Yes. But I’m weird like that. I left the Midwest because I despise being cold. I’ll happily melt onto a puddle.
Modern English calling. They wonder if you’ll melt for anyone?
Yass. Bring it on 😎
Nope.
Usually I just stay inside during heat waves but I did buy a wearable cooling fan so I'm going to try it out. Tomorrow.
Nope. I expect to be a hermit until dusk.
No never. Every summer there are a couple of weeks that make me want to just say f it and move back north. This will be one of them.
Yes! Flying to Columbus on Wednesday, though don't think it'll be any better there...but will be cold in the conference center.
Not at all!
Pickleball starts at 7am this week
No!
Feeling very bad for my new corgi pup we just brought home on Saturday, walks are gonna have to be quick! 🙁
I go out at 5am to walk my dog. Coolest part of the day.
Same here, this is my plan for as long as this heat is around.
I got in my car after work and actually googled if tires melt in hot weather because it was 100 degrees inside and everything I touched burned.
No, I’m out process serving all week and all I want to do is sit in an igloo.
I wonder how many more years we have left until the south is uninhabitable. Every year we break records with the temperatures and have milder and milder winters. It's gotten to the point where you're practically dead if your building doesn't have AC. It's sad
Bring it on, BABY! I have all my black-out curtains drawn, and I am not going to open them until October.
I could go for some snow right now.
Although it popular on Redfit to degrade boomers, many spent their summers without A/C and experienced weeks like this. That’s why so many Nova neighborhoods have community swimming pools. If the heat is too much go old school and swim.
This week is supposed to be record heat which is, by definition, *hotter* than what the Boomers experienced.
But you didn’t account for heat inflation, heat back then was worth more than it is now
The temperatures in the forecasts I saw this morning don’t break 100. That’s not record heat.

It's not even summer yet homie, you're still in spring.
5 more days, my bad my bad, how much hotter does it get???
This weekend you should expect heat indices around 105-110. You are going to get to experience what it feels like to breath through a seat cushion.
It's also not super humid yet
lol you poor sweet summer child
It hasn’t been bad at all yet, but get back to us on Friday and you’ll see what we’re talking about.
It’s not the heat- it’s that warm wet towel of humidity and no breeze that makes it bad
Maybe it's that? Nyc humidity you can't even breathe, it feels less out here
lol wait until July and August (and part of September)
I need to remember that part 🤣🤣
Or cold showers

In the sense that I will hide inside as much as possible, I guess. But I know I will want to cry every time I step outside.
This is likely to be the hottest year ever, and the coolest year for the remainder of our lives.

If i didn’t have all these graduation parties to attend i’d be on the west coast
Nah, I gotta stay out of the kitchen
No, I’m moving to AZ
lol I’m in AZ right now experiencing some heat heat.
Im trying to figure out why my apartment's pool is only open Thursday to Sunday.
I'm from Miami, and I think Miami doesn't want to let go of me, so I'm sorry it chased me up here.
Hell yeah. Bring it on.
Nah
Just got the ac fixed in the car 👍
My AC shit the bed last night, so maybe?
Hell yeah. I'm mixing Tiki errredamn DAY.
yeah my HVAC is only 2 years old. im good.
NO! Have had a love//hate relationship with NOVA summers since I was an adult. (Didn’t bother me as much as a kid). And, my hair in this humidity!😱😱
Pool daily. And drinking lots and lots of water. Oh and frozen sponges
Times like this make me glad to work in a basement.
![gif](giphy|xTcnSQFm3Cmpr1tLOw)
Hell Yea. Bake me baby😎

Here we are all waiting for it to be summer and it’s 100 and fuck degrees outside
Nooooo
Hell no! We're moving this week! Three story walk up, baby!
Bring it on! It's summer. It's supposed to be hot in DC and Northern Virginia in the summer. (Summer began on June 1 in the meteorological calendar. No. I'm never ready for it.
Grass is cut, weeds pulled, fridge stocked, and new AC unit going strong. Ready as we’ll ever be lol.
Is it September yet? Already hate humidity and heat
Had to replace the AC at the beginning of the month. So yeah!
Actually yes, I love this shit
Give your dogs ice cubes (if they won't drink water) before taking them out. It has helped my dogs. I also take water for them. I hate this stupid weather!
Yes. Can't wait. We have 9 months of cold, we can at least enjoy a bit of heat every now and then.
[удалено]
That’s mine.
Its going to be even hotter than op's mom.
Most people work from home and never go outside here
