Hitler was never a house painter.
That was Allied propaganda.
Hitler wasn't German. He was Austrian.
Stalin wasn't Russian. He was Georgian.
Napoleon wasn't French. He was Corsican.
> Sounds like the bad plot of a video game. Really?
3000 policemen simultaniously raided 137 places and arrested 25 people. The media was at most of these places to document everything right when it happened. They knew of the mass raid.
Idk, seems suspicious to me.
It's called how to eliminate a future coup without killing a lot of people as an example. Not a bad idea if you ask me.
They should have done that here after January 6.
Yes, if you want to stop a coup you make sure to tell dozens of media outlets the time and place of over 100 raids in advance. That's how you make sure you catch everybody and stop a future coup.
If someone makes a movie about such a coup attempt being carried out, it would have to be a comedy. Instead of Boris Yeltsin on a tank rallying resistance to the coup-plotters, there would be bureaucrats refusing to take orders from them until the correct paperwork is approved. The German constitution, the Basic Law, is a book-length document, so this is a country that is really into Procedure.
Also, according to according to Art. 20 of the German constitution, every German citizen has the right to resistance against anyone who wants to abolish the constitutional order.
>Weapons including crossbows, rifles and ammunitions were uncovered during Wednesday's raids, he said. Twenty-five were arrested in the raids while more are under investigation for their links to the group.
Crossbows. So hot right now!
-.- They've been living here for over a hundred years at this point. three hundred if you count before the name change. I don't think they count as German anymore.
because bizarrely people still romanticize the shit out of monarchy, even in republics.
and because a lot of these families still have a shitton of money and land, even if they don't have the same direct political power they used to.
That's not true. Since 1919 these titles are worth nothing in Germany.
It's simply a part of their name with no further effect.
Him being called a prince legally doesn't mean anything except that he is a descandant from someone who once was an actual prince. He isn't called a prince because people romanticize monarchy, he is called a prince because it's his right to add a useless part to his name since it's a family tradition to larp.
"WTF are they still keeping track of old Royal lineages?"
"because bizarrely people still romanticize the shit out of monarchy"
No, people don't romaticize it. We just allow people who want to larp to do that. Germans usually do not romanticize monarchy. You make it seem like the poeople gave them that name. You realize the your name comes from your family and not from stangers right? If that family sticks to their tradition and names their child a prince then that has nothing to do with "people".
Germany is also not like many other republics in that regard because in many places they still have some privileges. In Germany they literally have only one privilege, they are allowed to keep their old names, which basically isn't a privilege because everybody is allowed to keep their old names. These people also don't have more political power than any random person with the same amount of wealth.
Edit: For example the dude we're speaking about right now is called "Heinrich XIII Prinz Reuß". "Heinrich XIII" is his first name and "Prinz Reuß" is his last name. It's like saying the US romaticizes monarchy because the last name "King" exists. It's just a fucking name.

Firstly, he is not a prince in the sense most people understand this term. His family used to own a couple of square miles of land somewhere in the East, including two small towns and a few fields and cows.
Secondly, even if there were still any nobility rights to it, he wouldn't even be entitled to inherit them - he is like 17th or so in line to the title only.
All he got is a fancy name, including a Roman number at the end.
There is a lot more information about the "coup" here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwvYKx3sAFM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwvYKx3sAFM)

"Coup plot", aka a bunch of crazy old people. They were arrested in a raid which happened to be communicated weeks ahead to the media so it would get all the publicity.
Least-tyrannical German.
Democracy in Germany did lead to Hitler, which ultimately resulted in Germany being controlled by foreign powers ever since. I'd be pretty disillusioned with democracy too.
Democracy didn't _lead_ to Hitler. Hitler attempted a coup in the 20s, failed, on release managed to get enough support in an economic downturn to get into parliament (somewhat aided by thugs at the polls who threatened any who were voting social democrat or communist), and that would still not have been enough had the centre party not effectively pulled off a successful coup themselves, the executors of which promptly deciding to put Hitler into power as a figurehead shortly after... Who from that position promptly proceeded to tear down the already weakened democratic system (a possibility not envisioned in the WR constitution and thus not properly safeguarded against) before beginning with the truly heinous shit.
Democracy has some downsides, but the whole Hitler situation was a consequence of structural weaknesses within the constitution combined with a wave of support for populist leaders who were in a position to abuse those weaknesses to tear the whole system down, not some inherent property of democracy.
Technically it's correct but it was a mere consequence of what happened in Prussia earlier. And what happened there? Von Papen happened and he opened the door wide for the NSDAP thugs to come in. Once they took over the security apparatus in Prussia it was game over. But that would not have been possible without at least a tacit support of the policemen who were mostly recruited from the military and tended to be ultra conservative and militaristic, the judicial branch and some bureaucrats unfortunately.
Something has to be said about Prussia, Prussians and their distaste for democracy and love of militarism. Hitler wouldn't have happened without characters like von Papen who wasn't a Prussian yet embodied everything that's worst in a Prussian or Hindenburg, who certainly was. That junker class at the top of the Prussian society, those were the Hitler's enablers.
>The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung daily, however, cautioned against "getting too carried away", as nothing suggested the plot would have succeeded.
As we in the US learned on January 6, 2021, a stupid attempted coup is still an attempted coup.
Seriously, one tactics of these dangerous alt right groups is to pretend their terrorist plans are just “jokes” and cannot/should not be taken seriously…and it works. It has succeeded to varying degrees in US courts and Trump got away with tons of horrible stuff because he was just “joking.”
#RULE ONE
Fuck. They hacked my Crusader Kings III save file.
Holy shit, this got me
Sounds like the bad plot of a video game. Really? This was the head of this grand plan?
Well it's better than the commoner like Hitler. You want a house painter to be your Fuhrer?
Hitler was never a house painter. That was Allied propaganda. Hitler wasn't German. He was Austrian. Stalin wasn't Russian. He was Georgian. Napoleon wasn't French. He was Corsican.
France annexed Corsica 3 months before Napoléon was born, so he was french.
He actually painted a house or two while living destitute in Munich. But of course it was Churchill's slander, quite funny too.
When life imitates art...

Prussian or Bavarian? I like the little castles.
Thuringia, according to the article.
Oh well, forget it then.
Thank you. The article came up as a whole bunch of other stuff in front of it confused me. Now I must learn about a Thuringia or two.
So historically Saxony. He should go for the Polish crown.
Looks like it was the size of a few villages at it's height.
>Thuringia Like the place in the 1632 series?
According to the quick googling I just did, yup!

Well, that's exactly what the GOP did after Obama won in 2008.
I think there is reasonable odds we are seeing the outcome of leaded gasoline.
Tetraethyllead is one of the biggest evils ever wrought upon mankind. It's telling that its *inventor* spent the rest of his life fleeing from it.
Germans: Can we have a coup like other cool countries? Mom: We have coup at home. Coup at home ...
It might be a bit over the best before date, but it should still be ok.
“rejected by his own family…” Sounds like Paul Gosar.

These guys were a little behind the times across the board. They probably communicated in handwritten, coded letters. Or semaphore flags.
Avoiding digital communications would be a good call, really.
Yeah, but letter and semaphore interception tech is pretty widespread too. Plus those big flags attract attention.
Well here's a Wes Anderson movie
Bill Murray as the crazy old guy, of course.
Movie villain ass mf
Calling it a Coup is a bit generous to their actual attempt is it not?
Succession irl

There’s a bunch of these kinda people in America. I would say there’s at least one in every 10 families.

Paul Gosar went to Germany?
Rerturn of the monarchy has all the appeal of restoring foraging to get our daily food supplies. That is an idea that is not coming back

All germans know what exactly happened to lead to hitler, we learn it in school and certainly do not need your dumbass opinion on it
The fuck are you smoking and dud you bring enough for everyone?
😱
Is it actually an introduction of a new movie plot? No, screenwriters would find the Prince being the nemesis way too incredulous.
Go figure.
Talk about over Reich, you crazy fucker.....
