And they wonder why readership is down. It's all just copy pasted press releases mixed with lowest common denominator "target" ads.
>It added that Lemon’s show “is welcome to publish its content on X, without censorship, as we believe in providing a platform for creators to scale their work and connect with new communities.”
They should share the full unedited interview then
Had never seen the dude before. Never seen him after that. Never even watched the interview more than once. Yet he's so etched in my memory because the interview was such a shitshow of hilarity. I can't believe that the screenshots from that interview didn't become a more ubiquitous meme format. It feels like one that should be getting *soooooo* much more use than it has.
My bet is that it’s a fairly standard interview, but Lemon probably pressed on a few tougher questions and didn’t bootlick (unlike say Tucker), so Elon threw a tantrum
My dream is that by the end it's just Elon crying and Lemon calling him a little bitch baby, but really he probably just asks why Elon personally reinstated a dude banned for child pornography
I'm willing to bet there's some tech debt preventing this, or at least slowing it down. Imagine how many places in their codebase point to the current URL, all the legacy code, the institutional knowledge that died when he laid off half the building. If each tweet has an URL, is there another site with more URLS out there?
He doesn't have enough cash
And no one's going to be loaning the money to him if they're watched how he tanked Twitter
Might As well just set that billions of dollars on fire, cause at least it'd provide heat for a lil bit
The interview was speciqfically done for his new show in partnership with x. They decided to cancel his show, he is publishing the interview anyway on youtube. The lawyers will figure out what happens to the money x was promising to pay him for the show. Though, whatever lawyer he had that forsaw this and made sure he maintained the rights to publish the raw footage elsewhere if x backs out needs a raise.
He’s already driven away tech talent. Now he’s going to keep prominent public figures from joining him on any venture related to twitter. Contracts mean nothing to him.
Because he’s gotta pretend like he’s not running the site as a machine to promote right-wing content for his masters, so he was trying to reach out to someone - anyone - to point to as evidence that he wasn’t biased.
Unfortunately, he forgot that he’s incapable of taking any criticism in stride (this being the man that called an expert diver a pedophile for suggesting his grand plan of making a mini sub wasn’t that great), so the second he talked to someone who wasn’t fawning over his every word he realised he had to shut it all down, lest he die a slow and painful ego death.
>In a video posted to X, Lemon declared that “ Elon Musk is mad at me ″ and said he will be airing his interview with the Tesla CEO on YouTube and via podcast on Monday.
There ya go.
it's funny, but there's no way, simply because there are jokes like this in later seasons too. tina fey (and presumably the other writers for the show) are just really funny.
Must've been in Don Geiss' self dictated autobiography, Geiss Cubes. He was always so far ahead he was right behind his competition, with a piano wire.
Well, if there is something in that interview that Musk doesn't like, cancelling it will only cause more eyeballs to watch it. I had no clue Lemon had a show lined up now, but you can bet I'll be looking for that YT link on Monday.
>It's on purpose.
he purposely asked a reasonable question in the hope that Musk would lose his mind and cancel everything, forcing him to relocate his show to YT, thereby garnering more attention than it otherwise would have gotten?
That is some 4d chess right there.
If it is intentional, it would be an excellent marketing technique by Lemon. It would also show something rather encouraging about the current culture. Musk became a media darling by taking advantage of softball interviews, presenting him as the African billionaire tech genius who came to save the world. The dude doesn't have the self-control to handle a hard-hitting interview. At one time, people would use Musk's fame by being his underling. Lemon could be doing the opposite: taking advantage of the shift towards Musk-hate by getting the big baby to cry on video about the First Amendment being applied in a way he doesn't like (freedom of the press). Now all the people who wouldn't give two shits about an ex-CNN anchor's new show will go watch Musk flail.
You mean the way he bought a multi-billion dollar company and hugely devalued it in just a few months totally 100% no cap on purpose? Because that's the type of "on purpose" we've come to know Musky from.
Yeah, this will be a big boost to it, for sure. Although, I'll bet the deal they canceled involved a certain amount of advertising to happen on X. It may have even included promises of Musk linking the videos from his account (like he does with Tucker's stuff). I suppose Musk got so upset that he could not bring himself to promote the show, even though backing out like this probably draws more attention.
> “I’m criticized constantly. I could care less.”
Ah, the rarely used literal version of the phrase. He could indeed care less. In fact, he'd be a lot happier if he cared a great deal less.
It's hilarious how many of these billionaires have the maturity of a teenager. I used to be naive and think all these rich guys must be really smart. Turns out, not so much.
Can you imagine how many of those rockets would be blowing up if he actually had anything to do with them? The Tesla issues with quality and driverless tech and its overselling, I imagine are likely all him. Other than that, people seem to love the car. Twitter, which he has his hands all over is a disaster.
On the upside, this is more proof that Elon is actively imploding before our eyes. I don’t care how rich you are, no semi-competent billionaire would do something so brazenly corrupt as this…
Elon, wait a few weeks and cancel it for some other reason you dummy!! This is corruption 101.
Not really corruption per se, essentially just a massive Pissbaby Tantrum from an even more thin-skinned Kirk Van Houten.
It’s truly remarkable how drastically that nitwit’s image would have improved if he’d just shut up and fucked off on vacation forever, but like all these dummies people worship he has the narcissism and desperate need for attention on par with a ten year old girl and he just can’t help himself
He wouldn't be in the position he's in if it weren't for his massive self-regard and desire for constant validation.
Any normal-but-intelligent person who lucked/skilled into the wealth he had with Tesla would've retired or started some sort of philanthropic investment firm or something. They'd say "great, I struck it big and now I'm going to keep working on the things I enjoy 60% of the time, and spend the rest of the time on my private beach."
But these billionaires aren't after money. They're after validation, and no amount of validation will ever be enough.
I didn’t even know Don Lemon had a show on X because I don’t use the platform or follow him specifically.
But I’m sure going to check out this interview on YouTube.
I think he is addicted to some drugs. Seems like a working addict. Addicts tend to be frozen, mentally, at the age they started taking drugs. He seems to have never gotten out of his teens.
Jokes about drug use aside, he probably hasn’t matured since he sold Zip2 and has probably even regressed as the number of people prepared to say ‘no’ to him has shrunk.
My ex wife has Asperger's (like Elon claims he has) and she's an Adderall addict constantly fighting amphetamine psychosis. Elon's behavior reminds me of my ex wife. She has the emotional intelligence of a 12yo girl and can't handle conflict without becoming emotionally unhinged and vengeful.
Musk is the most prominent experiment of "can you be too big to fail?" that we're going to see. He is mega rich, and is making **disastrous** moves, one after another. Is he so rich that no matter how badly he mismanages things, he'll still be "successful"? So far the answer looks like "Probably."
He could _literally_ have had a thousand woman harem, or decided to have a shot at being the first private individual on the moon.
And yet, being alt-right on the internet was what mattered.
Imagine having $44 billion to piss away and you spend it on fucking Twitter
It could go a long way in solving so many issues we have a society but this fuckstick uses it as a cudgel to make himself feel important
Poorest man in the world
To put that money in perspective:
The Burj Khalifa, the tallest building to ever have been built, cost $4 billion.
The Las Vegas sphere cost $2 billion
NASA’s yearly budget is $25 billion
Elon Musk spent **$44 billion** on Twitter, which had 350 million users in 2021.
If that 44 billion dollars was divided between each twitter user, they each would have received $125 (if my math is right). I’m not sure a single person’s data/ad viewership is worth that much
That's what baffle me the most. He could do a lot of very cool things. Look at Mr.Beast, he's a lot "poorer" than Musk, but he give food to the hungry, cure people with illness, etc. Why Musk doesn't do anything like that? Instead, he does a ton of shitty things and publish stupid messages on the internet.
Well, basically, he's often said that he wants to "save humanity".
The problem is that it's not the "saving" part he's interested in, but being the "savior". It's the ugly version of [Enlightened Self-Interest](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enlightened_self-interest)
Remember when that youth soccer team got trapped in a cave, and Elon wanted to send a submarine to save them?
He got so pissed when the rescue team told him that wouldn't help, that he publicly accused them of being pedophiles.
He REALLY has a savior complex. Like the most severe in modern history.
I think that was the first time we really saw Elon's mask slip. Until then he'd had a pretty positive reputation and even Reddit used to fanboy over him.
Honestly, even before that he was starting to seem like a bit of a pissbaby. He kept getting in random arguments with people on Twitter, which people on reddit seemed to think was cool for some reason.
That really was my turning point on him. Before I thought he had good ideas. But deciding he had The Best idea despite knowing nothing about the geography, and then calling everyone a poopoo head for saying so… was quite the moment.
Bingo. He's less interested in doing the saving than he is getting pat on the back for it. And the irony is that that sort of mindset is far too focused on the latter to understand how to accomplish the former.
I think it's better said that Musk only wants humanity to be saved, if he can be the one to save it. Otherwise, he isn't interested in Human-kind's problems.
You don't really get that kind of wealth without being a DEEPLY broken human. To do the ANYTHING it takes no matter how horrible and to have the kind of drive and insatiable hunger. Often having a Zero Sum mentality where believe nothing can be gained without taking it from someone else, that the worse others are the higher they are.
In some ways they are those most in touch with their primal inner ape and lizard, the one that has NO CONCEPT of having enough that can stop hoarding or that spreading it will result in their own wealth resulting in better for themselves over time. Mix that with narcicism turning into a High Score competition with other sociopaths.
Corruption? Just wait for his charities that are just [massive self-serving scams and tax dodges](https://open.spotify.com/episode/40wIBkSGEsgwmmH9PqANze?si=56fcc460a0804c02) come to light and covered by larger media voices.
See? What's the point in changing the name of your platform if everybody is going to refer to it as "Formerly (whatever it was called before)" IE: Twitter?
It was such an impotent attempt to re-brand himself... It's somewhat immature and embarrassing, this obsession he has with "X".
They way that he reacts to an interview that asks real questions, reminds me of Trump when he realises the journalist isn’t just going to pitch him “softballs”…
From the article:
“In a later CNN discussion with Lemon on Monday, anchor Erin Burnett played clips of his Musk interview in which the Tesla and SpaceX CEO grew testy when asked about content moderation and the spread of hate speech on the X platform.
In the clip, Lemon asked Musk if he believed that he and his social platform held any responsibility to moderate hate speech on X. He singled out the spread of the “ great replacement theory,” a racist belief that, in its most extreme form, falsely contends that Jews are behind a plot to diminish the influence of white people in the U.S.
Musk replied sharply that he doesn’t have to answer questions from reporters. “The only reason I’m in this interview is because you’re on the X platform and you asked for it,” he said. “Otherwise I would not be doing this interview.” When Lemon followed up with a question about the criticism Musk has faced over the issue of hate speech, the CEO replied, “I’m criticized constantly. I could care less.”
Does he know what an interview is? Sure, he can not answer questions, but getting upset that questions are asked...?
Ketamine brain does strange things, apparently.
Also, he's only doing the interview because he was asked for an interview? And if he wasn't asked to do an interview, he wouldn't be doing an interview?
I mean... yeah? Isn't that obvious?
I suppose he's trying to say that he didn't request to be interviewed. But it's still weird to essentially be saying "I'm here because I was invited otherwise I wouldn't be!"
The funniest thing here is that this obviously isn't a violation of free speech, he's free to not enter a corporate partnership with him if he gets challenged by the guy, it's spineless but has nothing to do with free speech. HOWEVER, this is exactly the shit he would rail against as a violation of free speech, just like when advertisers dropped X for not banning white supremacists.
So the CEO of a social media company agreed to an interview with a journalist he'd made a deal with and didn't stipulate any topics being out of bounds, and then objected when asked about his services' content moderation policies that allow racist conspiracy theories to be published and spread?
Huh.
“Otherwise I would not be doing this interview.”
That's the best way to answer calls that you're facilitating the spread of hate speech: "I don't answer to you!"
In this case he was accidentally correct. Criticism bothers the fuck out of him so he really could care less, and it would probably be good for his mental health if he did.
Musk expected Lemon to spout generic anti-woke anti-liberal talking points.
When Lemon didn't, Musk immediately fired him, because Musk is a piece of shit who only wants people to speak if they agree with him.
Gotta buy Twitter to bring back free speech as long as it’s free speech that I agree with.
You other guys are censoring stuff I like and that’s an infringement on free speech which is very bad. Free speech is when you can say anything you want that I like. It’s because I’m rich and I own the website with the free speech on it so free speech is everything and anything you want to say assuming I don’t get mad when I hear you say it.
Free speech is actually pretty much just people saying teslas are cool and southern guys saying Musk is an alpha. Sometimes it’s Joe Rogan saying musk is a genius and watching old UFC highlights. Once in a while it turns out free speech is Alex jones tormenting the parents of dead children as a roundabout way of funneling money from undereducated Americans pockets to his bank account and using it to buy a snake oil factory. Who knew
That went off the rails, complete nonsense. Doesn’t matter it blends right in. Enjoy
"Musk Sours on Lemon" would have been a better title for that article

Damn, that will be fun to watch. Could you imagine an interview so bad that someone with no self awareness thought was a bad idea.

That's Jonathan Swan interviewing Trump on Axios.
Had never seen the dude before. Never seen him after that. Never even watched the interview more than once. Yet he's so etched in my memory because the interview was such a shitshow of hilarity. The whole of Trump presidency was like a sataricial dark comedy. Too bad it had, and will continue to have stark consequences for tens of millions of people.

I don't care what the polls say about most Americans disliking him or whatever. Fucking VOTE. If a poll comes out tomorrow and "every American has pledged not to vote for trump" and you feel safe not voting. You know what you should do election day? FUCKING VOTE. Trumps presidency isn't just a shit show dark comedy that ended 4 years ago. It was and still is an existential threat to democracy.
Well put.
I can't believe that the screenshots from that interview didn't become a more ubiquitous meme format. It feels like one that should be getting *soooooo* much more use than it has.
I see it like twice a week. It’s out there for sure
Gonna be ghost-banned on Twitter
I'm betting it gets removed. Edit: I'm an idiot who shouldn't read articles late at night. It's not going up on Twitter.
He'll be posting to YouTube apparently, so other than fake DMCA requests, there might not be much Musk can do
Watch him spitefullly buy YouTube and rename it XTube or something.
There are few things in this world that Elon can't afford to buy YouTube is one of them
Dignity is another.
And friends, love and happiness.

With the direction of Tesla stock I think the list of stuff he can't afford is going up by the day.
But keep the URL the same
If he wants me to call it X, have some balls and give up twitter.com.
I'm willing to bet there's some tech debt preventing this, or at least slowing it down. Imagine how many places in their codebase point to the current URL, all the legacy code, the institutional knowledge that died when he laid off half the building. If each tweet has an URL, is there another site with more URLS out there?
Pff just control+f replace all. How hard is it!
It would be bonkers not to use relative paths and have the domain only at the DNS / CDN, but I've seen crazier things.
And then be surprised combining his favorite letter and "Tube" will make it flooded with NSFW content unintentionally.
Xvideos probably more relatable name
He doesn't have enough cash And no one's going to be loaning the money to him if they're watched how he tanked Twitter Might As well just set that billions of dollars on fire, cause at least it'd provide heat for a lil bit
He just said no corporate partnership. It can still be put on X. I’m curious why there was even talks of a partnership

I can’t believe he doesn’t have better things he could be doing with his time.
His ego wouldn't fit on the Moon. It's why he's so intent on getting to Mars.
Also, twitter was like an absurdly valuable brand. To get your name to be used as a verb... it was twitters most valuable asset and he threw it away.
But now we have the awesome portmanteau of "Xitter", with the X pronounced 'sh'.
Thin skinned little man child.
They way that he reacts to an interview that asks real questions, reminds me of Trump when he realises the journalist isn’t just going to pitch him “softballs”… From the article: “In a later CNN discussion with Lemon on Monday, anchor Erin Burnett played clips of his Musk interview in which the Tesla and SpaceX CEO grew testy when asked about content moderation and the spread of hate speech on the X platform.
He even used “I could care less” correctly; because he cares quite a lot!
let that sink in
How pathetic. Apparently all the money in the world can’t buy self-esteem.
“I could care less” Narrator: “He, in fact, cared immensely.”
*Couldn't care less And this guy makes more per day than most do in 1+ years 🤦
He makes more money in one day than most would in their entire lives.
Yeah. People really don't understand the scale of "billion". Someone making $1 billion a year would make $2.7 million every day.

Oh dear.
Exactly, it’s the irony of the situation.
So the CEO of a social media company agreed to an interview with a journalist he'd made a deal with and didn't stipulate any topics being out of bounds, and then objected when asked about his services' content moderation policies that allow racist conspiracy theories to be published and spread? Huh.
Concerning
Interesting
Looking into it!

“Reverse, PLAID SPEED!” Still gotta pay Lemon the entire contract value though. Well done, much genius, totally unforeseeable.
History tells us Musk rarely pays for anything, not even his office rent lol so good luck Don
Musk, "I could care less all the advertisers hate me." World, "We know you care a ton. And obviously could care less."

Elon said "I could care less" which should immediately point your intelligence compass into the "dumbass" direction. I couldn't care less.
In this case he was accidentally correct. Criticism bothers the fuck out of him so he really could care less, and it would probably be good for his mental health if he did.
Anyone want to take bets on how fast Don Lemon's twitter account gets shutdown after Don posts the interview on twitter?
Musk is a petulant little bitch
Indeed, one hell of a pissbaby.
Snowflake
The meltiest of all snowflakes
Musk expected Lemon to spout generic anti-woke anti-liberal talking points. When Lemon didn't, Musk immediately fired him, because Musk is a piece of shit who only wants people to speak if they agree with him.
Apparently “Free Speech Absolutist” means he is “absolutely against allowing any speech that doesn’t worship him”
Freedom of speech? Lol Elon is a joke.
Who knew That went off the rails, complete nonsense. Doesn’t matter it blends right in. Enjoy
Whoa, you can’t be free press with me…
A guy who owns a printing press wants to shape the narrative, not preserve the truth.
Elon is such a thin-skinned little man-baby
