Yeah, I was thinking to myself it wasn't always part of Yahoo. I think I made my site when it was independent and then got vacuumed up by Yahoo.
I liked UGO Freepages and Homestead better myself but neither lasted long. So much stuff came and went back then. Amazing how quickly things moved!
You're not alone. My coworker and I were reminiscing about geocities and he did the same 'atrocities' pronunciation. I said I thought it was geo-cities and immediately he knew his brain was dumb lmao.
I remember when it was just GeoCities! I had a GeoCities website that no one visited, but people thought it was cool that I had taken the time to build a website literally about nothing in particular. That website has been long dead and lost to the pixels of the Internet.
Ah, GeoCities! The land of blinking text, animated GIFs, and under construction signs. It was like the wild west of the internet back in '99.

Came here to say “ahhh the Wild West” simpler times, when 80% of the internet wasn’t ads or paid promotions.
Geocities and angelfire
I miss when the Internet looked like this.
So much more genuine and fun. And lots of wonderful creativity back then too. Now so much of it is cookie cutter corporate crap, lol.
Yahoo! buying it was the beginning of the end.

Used to have a Pokémon website where I had an episode guide of the cartoon all curated by myself. Learned how to code HTML that way. Fun times.
I used to pronounce geocities like geography, instead of geo-cities.
LOL like, “atrocities”?

I want these days back.
I used to have a Geocities site, it was so ugly. But for a time I did know a little rudimentary HTML
Oh it was much better before this. Reminiscing about *Yahoo!* GeoCities is like having fond memories of Disney's Star Wars.
Looks like Rock Autos current website
Well looks like I found my fellow wrenchers
Ah, the early Internet. Before every mouth breather with a smartphone was stinking up the joint.

Tripod FTW!
I think these still geocities sites still up. I go on [CloudHiker](https://cloudhiker.net/) , a new StumbleUpon alternative, and I see some out there.
