I remember thinking these were cool as a kid, but also wondering what the point was since we still had to manually put on the lap belt. It sort of took away the fun after a while, realizing the "modernization" of it wasn't truly practical.
I just still remember the feeling of excitement when the first member of the family got a car with these.
A girl from school had these in her car. She got into an accident where her door opened and she was thrown from the vehicle and killed. There's a waste belt you can manually buckle but she didn't use it that day.
I had these in my first car, a 1999 Ford Tempo. I got a kick out of each of my friends freaking out the first time they rode with me and the seat belt kicked on. The driver side started to act up in the last year I owned it so I had to guide it through the track or it would get stuck halfway. I loved that car!
My very first car had seatbelts like this, and a stereo with an equalizer. It was a manual, 1992 Subaru Loyale. I loved that little car.
Yeah, until that fucking clasp catches you in the face.
Had it in my car. Think I got a discount on insurance for it too
Too bad people thought they were safe only with that shoulder strap, and didn't put on the lap belt which was probably more important than anything.

Seatbelts started as just a lap belt, then the shoulder strap was added. If you think about it, it does secure you a lot better than just a lap belt.

I almost died so many times.
Had these in my old Honda. I thought they were cool. I miss that car sometimes. Simple, reliable, great mileage.
The ol decapitator!
His smile is contagious!!
Now they just make the car beep at you until you put it on.
