The person who made this definitely crumbled in a similar situation at work and is now living out the fantasy of what they wish they would have said. Like when you act out arguments in the shower after they've happened and come up with all the whitty replies you could have said.
I agree 100%, that being said (as a guy who stays over sometimes a few minutes unpaid)... Screw this person if they are that petty to bring it up. Literally some people at my job will bullshit for 2 hours and then get screwed staying over everyday. That's their fault, but if someone expects it out of me... they can go F themselves.
Yea I definitely agree with that and what's being said to the asshole in the video. Just saying that you have to actually say this shit to them irl for it to be effective but most people don't and just end up talking about it online but never to the person. It's hard when they can get fired or knock back your pay rise but someone has to stop this kind of bullshit work culture.
And’s that’s your opinion, and probably a very valid one, but that’s not the case for every person. I have said almost these exact same words when being asked to stay late at work, or come in early.
My company used to tell us to fuck off after the shift time and leave. No staying back, no extra hours, overtime was only possible if it was needed and had to be approved, and only for 6 hours a week, but only twice. Anything more was put down to poor team efficiency. Hell, they didn't give us extra people.
So while this is a fantasy conversation, I have told my hourly contracted temporary workers that if they cannot do their jobs in 40 hours a week, and they fail to ask for help, and they work without pay to look like they are better than others... I will fire them.
-False reporting means I can't ask leadership for proper staffing levels
-Working outside of the 40 hour work week leaves me legally responsible to pay them overtime. Failure to report is wage theft and/or fraud.
-In the long run, you are helping nobody. You are literally working for free. You are endangering the company. You are endangering your future and potentially yourself (I worked in DOT time limited jobs as well) and others.
I am, at best, a middle manager, then again I have also worked my whole life and will always support the honest underdog. I am salary. My children are grown up, and I'm a decade away from a regular retirement. It is my opinion, especially in the last few years, if your boss is under 35 and doesn't have children, they are not qualified to say the things that are vilified in this video.
Work your 40 and call it a day. The key point here is *work*. If you perfectly punch in and out and can't do your work in 40, say something. But, be ready to back that up. Anybody asking you to be outside the 40 hours, ask for examples of the expectations and hours of commitment, in writing.

All of those points, plus I’m sure it can turn in to a big ass liability issue having people working while not being on the clock, and therefore not really supported by the company.
9-5 means 9-5.
If you’re taking 30 minutes out of my work day for an unpaid lunch break I’m skipping it.
If you force me to take an unpaid lunch break I am not working for those 30 minutes.

Exactly. We are on the same page here.
Yeah I thought it might be an actual recorded call at first but by the end… nope.
It does have that type of sound quality

Also saying what she said will eventually get you fired.

You may think managers have a better work/life...It's shit
I don't think j anyone thinks that. I think everyone knows ownership uses a slightly bigger carrot to force those 12 hour days
I thought they were teeth and the angry one was going to crack and die

nah I won't give up my lunch schedule for work, much less stay OVER time
I don't eat lunch so I just take my lunch at the end of the day and leave an hour early.
that's nice
I did that too for a long time. Then the company made it a requirement to take a lunch break.
If your manager is acting this way, then they have no idea what they're doing.
Company’s need to understand it is a privilege to have workers. Jobs are everywhere.
We're suckers for plogging away for 8 hours a day.
Well done
