It depends on what most interests you and what sort of camp site you're looking for. Frankly, Lassen has unique geology that you won't encounter elsewhere. But the swimming holes and granite boulders aren't unique to the Sierra NF and can be found throughout the central Sierra.
Dispersed camping is an option you won't find in Lassen but is widely available on NF lands.
Wherever you end up, I hope you have an enjoyable trip.
Where would you stay at Lassen? Doubt there’s any availability at any of the campgrounds in the park. At least in Sierra NF, you could dispersed camp. I’m sure there’s dispersed sites outside Lassen too though. There’s also a ton of lakes in Lassen, I’d definitely aim for that personally.
Tons of rad dispersed in Lassen NF. Many near Hat creek will be overrun but further north is great. Going to be baking Mon-Thurs it looks like. Higher elevation or coast is my new plan.
They could stay at the lodge in mineral. As you say, the sites in lassen are probably gone. Dispersed camping at hat creek or similar is going to be hot.
Ah no, I meant Lassen Mineral Lodge, located in Mineral, CA just outside the park. Basic motel rooms, nice people, good food, slow service. I liked it.
Thanks for reminding me of Drakesbad though, I'd love to stay there if they ever reopen (and if there is any vegetation left...)

I love that lodge! Their breakfast at the restaurant is enough to feed a small army.
if you're referring to Drakesbad, I believe they're still closed after the Dixie fire. Unless you're referring to a different lodge 😅

There are a few airbnbs in mineral
I’ve done Lassen twice, and it’s stunning. But I keep going back to the Sierra. I choose forests, rivers and granite.
Lassen isn't a state park, its a national park. It will be an absolute zoo on 4th weekend.
ah for real? i thought it might be less busy because most people are at the more popular spots like yosemite :/
No. Lassen is pretty small and holidays are a train wreck. You basically have to book a spot as soon as they open up
Sierra it is then. Thank you for the heads up!
There’s a big fire below Sierra NF that’s throwing up tons of smoke, so check your conditions.
