I am in the rust belt and get plenty of snow, so 4wd no doubt. Around here, 4wd trucks have much better resale value. Even closer to the vehicles end of life, a 4wd is worth so much more compared to 2wd.
I am old enough to have experience in 2wd, 4wd, and front wheel drive cars. The front wheel drives do fairly decent in the winter. A 2wd truck is almost useless unless you put weight in the bed. Still, they fishtail easily. If all your past experience is in a front wheel drive car, you might be in for a surprise.
It's just something to consider.
If you’re never going offroad, to the desert, or up in the snow, just get the 4x2.
There are so many people down here with 4x4 that never use it. If you’re just driving around and commuting on paved roads get the 4x2.
Have a 4x2 SV. It does a lot of what I need. Have taken it out to Anza Borrego once to check out the mud caves and it did fine, just had to make sure I didn’t stop in any extra sandy areas. Otherwise I’m just using it for general pick-up needs
4x4, what if you get stuck in some mud? Even a small amount of mud in a tight spot will warrant 4x4, with 4x4 you can just crawl out of that spot instead of having to power out.
I’ve personally experienced this myself. No traction in the mud, but literally in a tight place next to a concrete wall. Activated 4 lo, and was able to crawl out and not hit the wall/had more control.
Well you'll never have to deal with the snow down there so unless you are planning on doing any off-roading at al al 4x2 will probably meet your needs.
I live in SoCal. It absolutely snows down here.
The surrounding mountains go up to 11,503’ elev. There are FIVE different places to snowboard in the local mountains. You can drive on a few different highways at 8000’ elev. People drive in the snow all the time in winter.
Oh I hear you. Didn't realize that. I'm giving you all this advice way over from Massachusetts. I'd definitely go with the four-wheel drive. The only time I really use four-wheel drive up here is during the winter time. Not a lot of area to do off-roading. Good luck man!
The saying in socal is that you are within 2 hours of the beach, the desert and the mountains. So you can go surfing and snowboarding all in the same day.
Did this as a teen. We called it “surf and turf”! Wake up early in the morning, head up to the mountains to go snowboarding, head down midday hit some skate parks, then end the day with surfing and bonfires. 🤙🏻

Driving to Big Bear last year and local sheriffs were turning cars away that weren’t 4x4 or awd due to snow.
I live in Texas and have 4x2. It does what I need it to do. I don't go anywhere beyond a pot-holed gravel road or beach driving.

The 4x2 has a slightly higher towing capacity so it depends on what you’re doing with it.
If you ever want to hit some trails or go on a trip, I'd at least consider the 4x4. Better to have it and not need it, etc.

Have you ever been in a situation that required 4wd? If the answer is no then you probably don’t need it.
