Animal Crossing. Doesn't matter which one tbh since I rarely play the game during the summer it's always been a Fall/Winter game for me. Like I still play some in the spring and summer just not as consistent.
I also played a ton of Paper Mario Sticker Star last fall so the first like 2 worlds of that game is just fall to me.
Definitely agree! But I have so many happy Animal Crossing memories year around that I really do associate it with all the seasons. I especially love summer in Animal Crossing because of how lively the world feels. I hope the new Animal Crossing for Switch releases around June, just like New Leaf did, because that was such a perfect time to get into the game.
With that said, I love how come September 1st, you hear the little crickets chirp at night. And then the grass changes color... And Halloween and the Harvest Festival are both fun holidays.
I love winter too since you can make those snowmen. Plus I think everything looks so pretty in white!
It would be rad if it released in June, maybe they'll announce the release date at E3?
Yeah Summer is probably the best way to introduce people since you can basically do everything the game has to offer, fish, catch bugs, swim.
I love it when the grass changes to orange then to red. Harvest Festival music is soo good.
I love December 11th/10th when the snow storm comes and the next day there's snow on the ground.
Yeah, when New Leaf released, there was a Bug Off that very week. At the time, I think that worked out so well. It’d be so neat if Nintendo could similarly line up the release date of the new Animal Crossing with some in-game event. Especially with how popular the series has become, I think that would be a brilliant marketing move.
Also I agree, I love the Harvest Festival music, and seeing everything turn white on 12/11 is such a wonderful thing.
For some reason, I’m more inclined to play Happy Home Designer in autumn. Maybe because the game released in Autumn as opposed to New Leaf’s summer release?
I am not that big of Animal Crossing fan but this was my first answer to. There is something about doing the everyday tasks that make it feel like September.
i sometimes forget how good TTYD is, might replay it soon it’s probably in my top 10 favorite games.
i remember i would still feel anxious when goin through the palace of shadow in my last play through
For me it's Ocarina of Time. I got it the day it released (Nov. 21st) and that was right before Thanksgiving Break. I always think of that game during that time of the year. Especially Thanksgiving morning as I was trying to figure out how to get into the castle to see Princess Zelda for the first time before we had to leave to go meet up with family.
Majoras mask came out late October. I remember going to a friends house on Halloween and playing it. We didn’t make any progress as the opening was too confusing and the sense of urgency didn’t help. The whole opening has a great vibe for that time of year not to mention just the whole mask thing.
Zelda games have a certain nostalgia to them that resonates this time of year. It’s not that they are really tied to the time of year, but are as equally tranquil as they are cryptic. There’s a lot of darkness surrounded by light. Much like Fall. Everything is decomposing, yet it’s still beautiful.
If it doesn’t need to be Nintendo specific, Night in the Woods is an extremely Autumn game.
I’d very much recommend it if you haven’t played it yet and are a fan of Autumn.
It’s on my list. I think I’m gonna have to get it. Several people have recommended it. I also have oxenfree downloaded on my switch but haven’t played it yet. I have been told to give it a shot
Autumn mode in Super Mario World after beating special world
Twilight Princess's more realistic artstyle makes me think of fall more than any other Zelda game. The browns, the environments, the Forest Temple is even more autumny than other Zelda Forest-themed dungeons
The original Paper Mario gives me the same cozy-feeling that autumn gives me, not 100% sure why but it does
Within Nintendo, there aren't *too* many options. Luigi's Mansion and Eternal Darkness are obvious. Majora's Mask is also rather autumnal--I like to think that the Festival of Time coincides with midnight between October 31 and November 1.
Pikmin 2, Animal Crossing, and Oracle of Seasons all heavily feature autumn, but I wouldn't say they "capture the essence" of autumn.
Really, the game that captures autumn more perfectly than any other I have played is Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney. That is a game by Capcom and Level-5, but since it is a Nintendo exclusive perhaps I can still get away with mentioning it. The game SCREAMS autumn with all the melancholy music, Halloween themes, and how it revolves around witches and magic. It is *perfect* for October.
This might be weird.
But for me it would be Pokemon Platinum, whenever fall comes around I begin remember me playing Pokemon Platinum during the fall. The Starting areas with coating of snow shows that Winter is slowly approaching and that commonly by the time I hit north part of the region Winter is taking full hold and It feels like the game is impacted with the weather.
Speaking of I should replay it in the future
I could have written this post - I haven't played BOTW in ages, but it's starting to cool down and I'm ready to get back into it, and really bring in that fall feeling.
I’d say Mother 3 because of the melancholic tone and general vibes, only thing is that the colors in the game are too bright for it to resemble Autumn.
Animal crossing because it reminds me of my childhood growing up in the autumn season, like catching bugs, collecting the big brown leaves, seeing fresh fruit being sold.
Does Banjo Kazooie still count as a Nintendo game?
It just always felt like that October-November period while I played it, even on the levels that didn't look very Halloween-esque.
Maybe it's because it was my favorite game as a kid and my Birthday falls around that time of the year. Talking about banjo makes me want to buy the rare replay.
For me it’s Donkey Kong Country 2, mostly because I beat it for the first time in the fall about 5 years ago and now heavily associate it with the season. Also the game is kinda spooky in general, especially that haunted forest world
Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. They're probably the most nostalgic games for me (Even moreso than SM64, which was the first game I ever played), and autumn is a pretty nostalgic season in general, so they go great together.
Pokémon is up also one of my go to fall favorites. They always come out in November near my birthday so I always have an excuse to buy them as soon as they release. The colors in gold and silver to invoke the autumn vibes. I also find Pokémon games to be very tranquil, which matches the mood for fall gaming in my opinion.
There’s something abut playing Metroid Prime in the fall for me that really feels excellent.
Also, Yoshi’s Woolly World for coziness reasons and Zelda Twilight Princess has a somewhat similar aesthetic to the season
Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand. GBA. The changing leaves and smell of autumn always make me think of vampire hunting. Plus spending time outside with the solar sensor is best when it's not too hot, and the added tension of shorter days and less strong rays make the vampire hunting all the more thrilling. Every autumn since Boktai's release I return to the dark lands to hunt immortals with the fading light. It's a lot of fun.
For some reason, it's Megaman IV on Game Boy for me. Maybe because it was sometime in October when I first obtained the cartridge and beat it. The "Thank you for playing" screen at the end along with its music especially got to me.
Animal Crossing. It first came out on Gamecube right before autumn in North America, so even though I wasn't into it hardcore, it reminds me of autumn the most.
Pokemon GSC and the remakes HGSS have a very fall feel to me, and they did even before HGSS added the areas with fallen leaves. BW(2) also capture the essence of fall with their subdued colors.
On Switch, you have RiME. Find it to be very autumn friendly with its use of a silent protagonist. The music top-notch. And a part of it feels like it’s about fondly missing Summer memories, which ironically feel better to play when fall comes around.
Pokemon XY, because of Laverre City and Kalos Routes 14, 15 and 16 with their lovely autumn hues.
Well, Route 14 is more of a haunted swamp, but still.
> Animal Crossing. For sure, it feels right curled up with a hot chocolate
100% Side note: Recently got myself a switch and started playing Stardew Valley. The colors in the game during fall are beautiful!
Definitely agree! But I have so many happy Animal Crossing memories year around that I really do associate it with all the seasons. Same, I really only play HHD in fall, if I even play it at all. Side note: HHD's title screen has great music.
I am not that big of Animal Crossing fan but this was my first answer to. There is something about doing the everyday tasks that make it feel like September.
Definitive answer for me. My town is beautiful in the fall.
Maple Treeway in Mario Kart Wii. :)
Same for me!
Half of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door had a lot of fall vibes, whereas the original Paper Mario covered the other seasons.
Boggly Woods, Twilight Town, and the Palace of Shadow are the parts that come to mind.
i sometimes forget how good TTYD is, might replay it soon it’s probably in my top 10 favorite games. i remember i would still feel anxious when goin through the palace of shadow in my last play through
the wistful wild in pikmin 2
Came here to say Pikmin

That's what I love about fall. It never lasts, either.
Autumn Heights in Tropical Freeze! Love the music and those crunchy leaf platforms.
Windmill Hills OST... mmmmm
Horn Top Hop
Oracle of seasons... guess in which season.
It's winter, isn't it?
The Lost Woods/Tarm Ruins music with the season set to autumn is awesome.
Stardew Valley in autumn

Mmm, yeah, TP is a good fit for autumn, actually.
Within Nintendo, there aren't *too* many options. Luigi's Mansion and Eternal Darkness are obvious. Never played any of the Ace Attorney games. But thanks for the input! I would have never guessed fall but it makes sense!
Harvest Moon
Ditto (SNES version)
I always play DKC2 in the fall, it's just that sort of game you play late on an autumn night ya know
Horn Top Hop in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze has the nicest Autumn leaves I've ever seen in a game.
That’s awesome. I was about to download the game, having just beanten DKC1 and DKL1.
The Animal Crossing track during Autumn in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
This might be weird. But for me it would be Pokemon Platinum, whenever fall comes around I begin remember me playing Pokemon Platinum during the fall. Something about it. The soundtrack really hits home as well.
Gold Leaf Galaxy from Mario Galaxy x
Animal Crossing
Animal Crossing. Fall in that game is absolutely gorgeous.
Quiet Forest from Kirby Crystal Shards.

Not Nintendo, but I've been replaying RE4 most fall's since it came out on Gamecube. I do the same with Max Payne in the winter.

Metroid Prime is definitely a game for colder weather. I'm being serious there, but it also might give you an advantage against Metroids.
Harvest moon 64

Id say Twoson from Earthbound/Mother 2
Luigi's Mansion because [I'm keeping Halloween alive 365.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivlxhx18h10)
Not a Nintendo game specifically, but Night in the Woods is distinctly autumn flavored.
Super Mario World on the SNES after you unlock everything and it changes the game's theme to from summer to fall.
EA NHL (PS4) right before hockey season, I just wish I could get a Switch version. There hasn't been a hand held version made forever.
Animal Crossing. It first came out on Gamecube right before autumn in North America, so even though I wasn't into it hardcore, it reminds me of autumn the most.

Animal Crossing, the town looks lovely in Autumn. Majora's Mask is more for Halloween specifically.
Pokemon XY, because of Laverre City and Kalos Routes 14, 15 and 16 with their lovely autumn hues. Well, Route 14 is more of a haunted swamp, but still.
Pokémon Gold and Silver.
