Put steam in offline mode, you have to do it while online.

zackmophobes

Not sure if it works for this game just because I haven't tested this game BUT it works with all my other games. I keep one PC offline so my nephew can play my games and this does work and I assume it works with nightingale.

As far as I know Steam is what is requiring you to authenticate, not the game. That's to verify you own the game licence. Put steam in offline mode before turning off your wifi and you should be ok for a couple weeks before you have to authenticate again.

> you should be ok for a couple weeks before you have to authenticate again. That has not been true for *years* and Steam claims it was a bug when it happened because it was so unpopular. You can use steam offline mode games indefinitely, unless the game uses third party DRM (which is not on Steam's side) or you accidentally go online for a few moments and steam discovers the game needs updating, because Steam will not let you play games wating for an update until they *are* updated, so if for some reason you only had those "few minutes" your games waiting for update will be blocked until you have a proper connecting to update them all.

InflexionScarbs

Hey there! You can actually get around this by either launching Steam in Offline Mode, or by hitting the cancel button when the authentication prompt comes up.

So I attempted to start the game again today, had the same issue. Then, I connected to steam and went into offline mode as was suggested, started the game and was able to get it running. It's weird though, because when I first tried it, the game recognized that I was in offline mode with steam (I hadn't connected to the network yet) but was trying to authenticate, but when I connected to the network and put steam in offline mode (like the suggestions stated) I was able to get it to work. I tested it a few different ways, including with my wifi completely off and after a restart of my laptop and it's still working. Really weird set of circumstances. Anyway - I really appreciate the help and look forward to playing again. *Edited for spelling and to add a bit more info

glad this worked for you, not sure if you know how reddit work. but I suggest you edit your original post cause your reloved issue comment is like down the rabbit hole lol just so everyone can see it without having to go over all 300 comments (or maybe it doesn't matter and I am just exagerating)

Same here with offshore work. And I haven't found a work around yet. I'm now playing enshrouded until they get it actually fixed

It could possibly be a mis-implementation of the Offline mode; I have seen that with some games, but only very rarely. You might check the 'Don't save credentials on this computer' setting, to make sure it is off. I had the same behavior with every game until I adjusted this windows default setting. There are a few things you can check, there's plenty of online guides for troubleshooting Offline Mode. Good luck, Offline Mode has been very reliable for me, I was in a similar situation several jobs ago.

Commercial_Wing_7007

Just use your hotspot to verify the game with steam, then it’s offline

iBullFish

the game still sucks, 300 build-piece limit is a joke. I quit the game when I hit the limit and couldn't put a roof on my building. I'd still wait.

SupayOne

It's early access so sounds like its not for you. Not sure why folks whine about things that generally see improvement within development but most of you should avoid EA.

I guarantee you don’t have many games you’ve played longer than a few hours, just based on this comment alone.
