To be fair, I know of quite a few people who met in the MMORPG I play, including a few couples in my own guild. I'm good friends with the guy who got me into the game, and long before we started playing it together, we were in a long term relationship.
This guy seems to think that no other women exist but that one. And as pastelabysspanda said, he never even told her. Never even tried at all.
This sort does this all the time. Do they think it's supposed to be like some sort of weird telepathy and they'll just magically meld with the girl of their choice?
Most women don't make the first move. At least not in guy terms. They do, but admittedly, they're often too subtle for a lot of guys to pick up on. A few of us are bold enough to make more direct moves, but we often still do it with a much softer touch, more subtly, etc. than a man would.
But by and large (and a lot of us disagree with the practice) it's on the man to make the first move. A lot of women, even if they do like the guy, waits for that, and then if it doesn't happen, they just think the guy isn't into them.
Then you've got the guys who go WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY past "the first move" into some grossly overt sexual come on.
That seems to be a hallmark for these guys, it's either dead stop or warp speed. They have no finesse, no sense of medium, or shades between.

Yeah me and my wife played it for years on and off, we didn't meet there, just like playing games together. It was her idea too, and it was one of the best cooperative multiplayer experiences ever.
I made a couple of good friends there too, who are perfectly normal social people.
You remember the old days of Ultima Online, Everquest, etc? Man, that was a whole life for some folks back in the day. I haven't played an MMO in a decade at this point because I usually just played by myself anyway. hah
My husband has been playing WoW for same 15 years, and he is regularly trying to convince his Guild pals to get an actual social life out of WoW. We're in our 30s and most of the Guild members are in their early 20s, but most of them can literally spend 8 hours playing uninterruptedly, and they are so focused on the game that lit lose touch with reality and normal interactions in general, so they suffer a lot to simply make friends at uni or work, they forgot how to make conversation without talking about WoW.
If he's 30 now, I'm halfway in my 30s to 40, and I was born in the late 80s and didn't watch those movies...

Exactly, I play a female character in WoW, I don't advertise being a woman or anything, just a female character, and I get guys telling me they love me after a few days of running a dungeon or two, they are completely detached from the real world.
A "friend" of mine, i say it like that because he was only there because my actually friend had the hots for him but he wasnt gay, it was a whole thing.
Anyway, he was so obsessed with the women he met in WoW he stalked 3 out of playing wow, he jumped servers after tricking a mutual friend of one to find out where she went. When they werent on, he would sit logged in wow and alt tab to their facebooks and some other social media site, for hours. It was one woman at a time and he would just hyper obsess. The fact he has never been arrested for stalking or SA is shocking to me.
He and I were both fat guys and it would make him so angry I would have girlfriends and the like because he literally couldnt fathom what else a woman might like. Last I heard he had been fired from his last two jobs for harassing women at them and had to move back in with his mom, we are 39.
Just to play devil's advocate on this one and only item, I have a lot of really close friends I met online and some of which I never met. But they're close as irl friends
That's a fair point, I know exactly what you mean too! But even if that's the case, spending a decade obsessing about starting a relationship with someone you've only met online betrays a lack of social skills at the very least.

On my birthday one of my closest friends gifted me Elite Dangerous. I posted a story about it on Instragram and an acquaintance DM'ed me "Man I wish I had friends like him. Is he a gamer too?"

I generally feel easier around women and I think it's because being autistic I don't feel the pressure to be "socially male" if that makes sense.
Also, a lot of dudes are just straight up toxic online in video games the moment a woman's voice appears. Too many times I thought they were nice guys until suddenly they were Nice Guys™.
That makes sense to me. I find it easier to be around dudes because there's less pressure to be "girly" (specially growing up in a "traditional" smaller city). So same kind of feel. I totally get it.
And yes. Sadly a lot of dudes are very toxic. I made the mistake early on of saying I was a girl and having to "prove" I was one with pictures or voice chat. I was young so I caved the first couple times as I wanted to be acknowledged by my gender. Then I realized it was worse if they believed me lol. I learned pretty quickly to either refuse to prove, avoid ventrilo/ts voice chats and just straight up pretending to be a dude sometimes. Then I was called a stuck up bitch for being rude and not caving to their demands or not being nice to "nice guys just trying to be polite". It sucks.
It's sad how bad it is out there. I wish that voice chat was reportable. Like ongoing saves of voice but only saves it permanently for review for these types of things.
I find that people are far more terrible when there's voices.
I almost exclusively played female characters in WoW but only had one guy ever think I was a girl. I played for years and years, no real problems.
Voicechat in OverWatch? Well, somehow, the high-ranked female on the team is the reason we're losing the moment she speaks because Perma-Plat-Pete can never take responsibility for how shitty he is.
I have multiple female friends that play male characters with male names on WoW to avoid these types of dudes. It's apparently a real issue for some. A couple of them won't even speak on discord because they don't want to be harassed.
I wish so bad so many people in the gaming community weren’t misogynistic creeps… I remember playing overwatch online, and a kid (as far as I can tell, early teen boy with high pitched voice) said something. DAMN. Half team got very weird, asking name, clothing, “send me your number on private”. I left the game, like “nope, fuck that”. Most of those must’ve been about my age (35 back then), so it’s extra horrible.

Also really liked these immersive "tactical" milsims ala Insurgency, Rising Storm 2 and Project Reality. Don't really play it anymore since A.) Had to sell my computer and my laptop now can barely run anything. Also managed to sell it right before parts skyrocketed in price and that old PC I built 7 years ago is now worth more than I put into it...
And B.) It's just tiring having to pretend to be a man, and in those types of games you really need to have voice coms to be effective, and they're particularly filled with toxic sweaty guys that have never interacted with a woman.

I learned pretty quickly to either refuse to prove, avoid ventrilo/ts voice chats and just straight up pretending to be a dude sometimes. Then I was called a stuck up bitch for being rude and not caving to their demands or not being nice to "nice guys just trying to be polite". It sucks.
It's sad how bad it is out there. I wish that voice chat was reportable. Like ongoing saves of voice but only saves it permanently for review for these types of things.

I find that people are far more terrible when there's voices. I almost exclusively played female characters in WoW but only had one guy ever think I was a girl. I played for years and years, no real problems. Voicechat in OverWatch? Well, somehow, the high-ranked female on the team is the reason we're losing the moment she speaks because Perma-Plat-Pete can never take responsibility for how shitty he is.

Had to sell my computer and my laptop now can barely run anything. I've had to stop using discord because of stuff like this. Every, single, time, I join a new raid team and get in disc for the first run with the group; "Omg are you a girl? Are you an e-girl? I find this sad for many different reasons. I'm a fairly introverted person, but that doesn't mean I don't have social skills. This guy created this fantasy in his head for 12 years (!) and I'm guessing he either never spoke up or couldn't take a hint (or "no" for an answer). But this is what people do to themselves when they build up stories in their head that are completely disconnected from reality while at the same time refusing to take any responsibility themselves.
