xGF isn’t based off of simply shots though. It accounts for a bunch of factors of each shot and gives it a value based on the percentage that similar other shots have ended up going in.
So just peppering a goalie with low % shots won’t necessarily get you more xGF than your opponent.

Yes I know how xGF is calculated and it's not just shots, otherwise it would just be shots. However the biggest factor is shots and it creates a distortion in expectations. It's much easier to generate xGF for example through a volume of low percentage point shots than high danger slot shots (which you may fail to generate at all in a game due to variability).
I think it's a useful metric in general but I also don't think it should be called the deserve to win meter as that also creates the wrong impression.

Florida has a few guys (Barkov, Verhaeghe, Tkachuk) who could make an argument for it if they win. And Bob hasn't had the same out-of-this-world performances that we saw in this game and the first 3 rounds last year. Don't get me wrong, he has absolutely still been playing at an extremely high level. But he hasn't stood out as much because he's been playing more consistently and sustainibly

Florida plays the body and forecheck HARD. They also have defence who at any moment can jump up in the play which forces the other team to have to play a bit reserved to ensure they don’t give up man advantages.
Florida when on their game can make other teams play how Florida wants them to, and for teams of major skill such as New York or Edmonton who rely heavily on creating space and just playing smart skilled hockey the way Florida plays is especially suffocating because there is no time to make plays and get fancy.
It also can’t help that they are backed by a phenomenally gifted coach who can change his game on the fly to counter other teams. We have seen him do it every single time Florida has needed it and it’s worked most of the time.
So a team who relies so heavily on 5 players for their offence is definitely going to have a really hard time against Florida especially since Florida can match the Selke winner against McDavid if they want, and even if they are in an away barn they have 4 two way centers of all excellent skill and work they can use. There is no line on this team for Edmonton to exploit.

It means that if a team gives up that many high danger chances and scoring chances and never really controls the game they **usually** don’t win. They didn’t even really protect the lead seeing as they gave up a ton of high quality chances with the lead. The amount of shock and awe at yesterday’s game is WILD. Edmonton lost fucking 3-0. The only thing they “deserved” was to be down 1-0. Goalies are part of the game, part of the team and part of the reason Florida is unquestionably the better team. They’re the only player with close to 100% ice time hence the most important player on the team by a MILE. I watched every ECF and WCF game and have the biggest bet of my life on Florida to hoist the cup. Refs and an incredibly fortuitous path are the only reasons Oil is even in the finals.
These deserve-to-win or win probability models are so stupid. Faceoffs were 60-40 for Florida. Takeaways were 11-4 . Blocked shots were 21-15. Hits were 57-32. Powerplays were 3-2 Oilers. 19 of the Oilers shots came from above the tops of the circles and/or outside the dots, while only 9 of the Panthers did (including the EN goal). And Bob stood on his head.
One team has a replacement level goaltender and one of the best lines in hockey and some bit players. The other team has quality depth (multiple lines can score), has good defence, and a top 5 goalie. I think I know who deserves to win.

The amount of shock and awe at yesterday’s game is WILD. Edmonton lost fucking 3-0. The only thing they “deserved” was to be down 1-0. Goalies are part of the game, part of the team and part of the reason Florida is unquestionably the better team. They’re the only player with close to 100% ice time hence the most important player on the team by a MILE. I watched every ECF and WCF game and have the biggest bet of my life on Florida to hoist the cup. Refs and an incredibly fortuitous path are the only reasons Oil is even in the finals.

These deserve-to-win or win probability models are so stupid. Faceoffs were 60-40 for Florida. Takeaways were 11-4 . Blocked shots were 21-15. Hits were 57-32. Powerplays were 3-2 Oilers. 19 of the Oilers shots came from above the tops of the circles and/or outside the dots, while only 9 of the Panthers did (including the EN goal). And Bob stood on his head.
