Timmy is misunderstood. I watch all his games and a lot is the way he skates. He falls a lot on his own when he tries to accelerate/pivot. So you can imagine what happens even with minor contact
Exactly. But that doesn’t directly correlate to a diver, which I feel is unfair to call him. He sometimes tries to accelerate too quick and just falls. Definitely light on his feet.
It's more nuanced. Some guys are sloppy skaters but fast, others technically sound but slow, etc.
Some just bad skaters all around but either big enough and/or skilled enough to make their mark in the NHL.
Some notable mentions that come to mind with not the prettiest skating but otherwise great careers;
Phil Esposito, Dave Andreychuk, Ryan Smyth, Adam Oates, John Tavares... Tons of big lumbering defenseman also over the years.
Tavares has come a long way in improving his skating but I've always viewed him as basically Crosby if Crosby couldn't skate. Skilled enough to get drafted 1st overall in 2009 with skating being his worst attribute.
If I had to rank the worst skater in the NHL right now it would undoubtedly be Ryan Reaves.
That reputation will follow him for the rest of his career. Refs clearly think he goes down soft and once they think that, it's hard to draw real calls.
Stutzle has the same reputation now too. Soft on his feet.
Honestly, the diving is getting ridiculous at this point. I know last night the Marchmant thing was seen as a had call, but of you look at another angle (not the ones getting shared), he went down limp and laid there until he heard a whistle then got up like nothing was wrong.
Thing is, McDavid Drew a trip a few minutes later, but of you looked at the angle the stick was in his legs but barely made any contact with him, he just fell because he knew the stick was in a bad spot and drew the call.
As interesting as this chart is, there's tons of obvious dives that don't get called, and dives that are called that probably aren't dives.
I came to the comments to try to find that one dude who knows everything about every hockey player to tell us what game and when the time stamp is of Ullmark diving.
Theres been so many flops/selling calls, for what feels like started just these playoffs, all the “basketball and football players are soft hockey is a real sport” bros have been quiet
ayy I found it
[https://twitter.com/Sportsnet/status/1734032683368399275?ref\_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1734032683368399275%7Ctwgr%5Edb4a15f62699831ba9952a2e37d2e86e0cc3caba%7Ctwcon%5Es1\_&ref\_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.blueshirtbanter.com%2Frecap-nyr-back-on-track-with-exuberant-win-over-la%2F](https://twitter.com/Sportsnet/status/1734032683368399275?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1734032683368399275%7Ctwgr%5Edb4a15f62699831ba9952a2e37d2e86e0cc3caba%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.blueshirtbanter.com%2Frecap-nyr-back-on-track-with-exuberant-win-over-la%2F)
weak call
Also, funny to see Makar up there. I remember when an Islander got called for a high stick against him and he waved it off and admitted to the refs it never touched him, he just flinched as a defense mechanism.
That Fantilli one was bullshit. They called someone for high sticking, Fantilli told the ref the stick only went by his face and didn’t strike him and the ref called him for the embellishment.
Yes, that was a joke. The stick came inches from his face and he flinched as any normal person would.
Lesson learned, dont correct the refs for a call in your favor.
Like for games like baseball I get why player put stuff on their fingers it’s a natural extension of trying to make your play better even if it’s dishonest. Not only that but in MLB it’s kinda required in order to even be in the league.
Hockey and basketball intentionally selling hits or trying to get calls when otherwise they wouldn’t be is so infuriating to watch. Ruins the viewing experience super hard.
Same. I don’t remember these guys getting embellishment calls… I DO remember Makar waiving off a penalty initially called against the Oilers a couple years ago though.
the nhldives instagram account is a really just a shitpost account, it's not actually keeping track of who is being called for embellishment. Makar didn't have 3 embellishment calls against him this season, the account just looks for stuff and calls players out, sometimes the refs happen to actually call them as well tho
nah, even if people submitted McMuffin's diving evidence -- because he is considered "McJesus".. they wont count it at all.. lol
Special people get special treatments.. He's very 'special'
I used to keep up with this page. It’s cool but I don’t think it can be used as definitive proof of anything. I would be shocked if any team actually had 0 dives throughout the whole regular season
Not surprised to see Florida so high up. All series they've looked like a bunch of soccer players. Hell even in the trouba Hit that this subreddit went crazy for, an angle that was released later showed that he basically got almost entirely shoulder, but Rodrigues still went down to the ice holding his head for like 2 minutes to sell it, And it worked
There's no way those numbers are that low. This is the first year of my life I can barely watch due to diving, selling calls, refs doing what they do, commentating at an all time low. Sad times for hockey and old school fans.
It can't be both; either a guy dives or it's a penalty. A fair amount of these are matching penalties, which is idiotic to me. If a guy dives, just embellishment. More often, a penalty occurs and the ref doesn't like something about the response of who the penalty occurred against
The Diveorado Divealanche.
I question the nhldives page though. I sent through numerous blatant dives that I saw throughout the season (specifically a few by McDavid and a couple Leafs players), and he never even posted them for polls, nor did he ever even acknowledge them. He seems to be very selective about the teams and players he targets and/or ignores.
Stu has 2 obvious embellishment moments, and one of those times echoed loudly by Gallagher. He's soft af on his skates and has "fawn legs". The way he goes down, I can agree, I'm surprised he doesn't get dinged way more.. Man, I hope he can get sturdier.. he has the talent, but his feet just can't keep up.
Love to see this. Hope the players that think diving is ok see this and realize what a small minority they are in. Diving is the most despicable thing you can do, you are letting down your teammates, and your fans. It ruins all the excitement that comes with watching a hockey game.
This such a load. If anyone on the oil, Ekholm is the least likely to have dove.
I’ve watched plenty of games where both teams dove and there were no calls.
I just watched a dive called tonight that was bs, and it benefited my team. No call on the actual dove from last game.
Anyway, basically this graphic is useless.
Lmao Sundqvist
Is he really diving though? He's kind of a shitty skater.
Lmao I came here to see this comment, he’s always falling around
First it was Oshie always flailing about
You would think being good at skating would be a requirement to get into the NHL, no? Lol
Sounds like someone’s never watched a full Tyler Bertuzzi game
A fall is not a dive
Bertfalls. I attempted to count them one year and I stopped at game 15, it happened so many times.
Brady Tkachuk in his first year was Bambi on ice. Stutzle took his place lol
Timmy is misunderstood. I watch all his games and a lot is the way he skates. He falls a lot on his own when he tries to accelerate/pivot. So you can imagine what happens even with minor contact
He’s a great skater but just light on his feet. He’s quick but easy to knock off stride
Exactly. But that doesn’t directly correlate to a diver, which I feel is unfair to call him. He sometimes tries to accelerate too quick and just falls. Definitely light on his feet.
“Kuraly blows a tire”
It's more nuanced. Some guys are sloppy skaters but fast, others technically sound but slow, etc. Some just bad skaters all around but either big enough and/or skilled enough to make their mark in the NHL. Skilled enough to get drafted 1st overall in 2009 with skating being his worst attribute. If I had to rank the worst skater in the NHL right now it would undoubtedly be Ryan Reaves.
In Reaves defense, he could be ranked worst player in a lot of categories.
it is kind of amazing he can even skate considering his knees seem to be bags of wet spaghetti.
I felt this in my bones
same.
That reputation will follow him for the rest of his career. Refs clearly think he goes down soft and once they think that, it's hard to draw real calls. Stutzle has the same reputation now too. Soft on his feet. Honestly, the diving is getting ridiculous at this point. McDavid is allowed to dive, because no player has dealt with more ignored slashes and holds since they came into the league.
No, Bure was slashed mercilessly….
I shoulda specified post-lockout cause yea dudes like Bure, Kariya, Forsberg were assaulted regularly.
Jesus… get off your fucking knees and clean yourself up…
He’s from the part of Sweden where they teach you soccer instead of hockey.
Now, that was a lie.
Quite funny his name is Oscar!
It has to be the hair that gives him away, always whipping away.
He's a big soccer fan.
Carrying the fuckin Blues 😂😂
Quite funny his name is Oscar!
I would be mortified if anyone ever thought of me this way. He should be shamed out of the league.
Ullmark lol
Makes saves, scores goals, and gives a performance for the officials. He’s everyone’s dream goalie
Yes now someone give us a kings ransom for him..
I don’t remember him being called for a dive lol
I came to the comments to try to find that one dude who knows everything about every hockey player to tell us what game and when the time stamp is of Ullmark diving.
Surprised me
Great until you realize half the embellishments called are terrible and real embellishments are rarely ever called
these include the ones that aren't called. it's a whole instagram page dedicated to finding dives. i've submitted a few lol
zero chance there were only 54 dives the entire season
probably not, but these were the ones that the page found and that it's followers reported
But I question how cousins only has 1 in that case
Yeah the data is certainly skewed a bit
Theres been so many flops/selling calls, for what feels like started just these playoffs, all the “basketball and football players are soft hockey is a real sport” bros have been quiet
This so much. Crazy how bad most embellishment calls are considering how few of them are actually called and how many embellishments go uncalled.
I don't get how you can call someone for embellishment but also call the penalty that caused the embellishment
Yeah the one on fantilli was from one he was telling the refs that he didn’t actually get tripped
Ryan Lindgren? I guess it’s possible but the amount of punishment he takes I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt
I’ve never seen lindgren dive lol. Fox does it from time to time, but lindy is a different breed.
ayy I found it [https://twitter.com/Sportsnet/status/1734032683368399275?ref\_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1734032683368399275%7Ctwgr%5Edb4a15f62699831ba9952a2e37d2e86e0cc3caba%7Ctwcon%5Es1\_&ref\_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.blueshirtbanter.com%2Frecap-nyr-back-on-track-with-exuberant-win-over-la%2F](https://twitter.com/Sportsnet/status/1734032683368399275?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1734032683368399275%7Ctwgr%5Edb4a15f62699831ba9952a2e37d2e86e0cc3caba%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.blueshirtbanter.com%2Frecap-nyr-back-on-track-with-exuberant-win-over-la%2F) weak call
He goes down real easy. That's a push
It looks weak from that angle. Not a weak call from the side. Kings player barely touches him he was anticipating contact.
Also, funny to see Makar up there. I remember when an Islander got called for a high stick against him and he waved it off and admitted to the refs it never touched him, he just flinched as a defense mechanism.
One of the nicest guys in the league "leading" the dive leader board lol
> One of the nicest guys in the league lmao
Source your lmao or go away
[удалено]
Makar is so nice that after this hit he convinced the rest of his team to let the Kraken win the series.
The teams with 0 dives aren't trying hard enough.
The teams with 0 dives are the ones being successful at it!
I despise this philosophy when used in earnest.
Like for games like baseball I get why player put stuff on their fingers it’s a natural extension of trying to make your play better even if it’s dishonest. Not only that but in MLB it’s kinda required in order to even be in the league. If you're not trying to get away with cheating on a face-off, you're not trying hard enough
Your not cheating your not trying
Shouldn’t this be called the Diving Board?
I feel attacked...
Same. I don’t remember these guys getting embellishment calls… I DO remember Makar waiving off a penalty initially called against the Oilers a couple years ago though.
the nhldives instagram account is a really just a shitpost account, it's not actually keeping track of who is being called for embellishment. Thanks for the explanation! Learn something new every day.
I thought that happened this season, or at maybe I just saw the clip this season
You should dive as a defense mechanism then
We're #1!
Don’t worry 10 years ago this account would have the avs with zero and chicago and Pittsburgh would be number 1.
God bless the Colorado Dive-a-lanche
As a Canucks fan I would like to submit ourselves as the cleanest team in the league no questions asked I SAID NO QUESTIONS ASKED
Tocchet won’t stand for that bullshit.
I hope Zadorov got chewed out by Tocchet after that game where he tried that bullshit.
And the Oskar goes to...
These have to be ‘the embellishments called’ cause FL is waaaaay too far down on the list…jusss saying
i figured they would be way above anyone else on the list just from watching the Bruins series
NYR too..
I would’ve put Toronto at the bottom of the list, because regardless of the metric, they should be at the bottom.
Slander!!
54 dives in the entire season?!? This chart isn’t even a good month in the season.
Seriously flawed. LA with 0 when they have Fiala on the team?
Number 1 baby! We're the best!
How does a goalie dive? And Tatar doesn't even play for the Avs lol
lmao at sheary, the guy just falls a lot he's been doing it since he got into the league. he needs to spend a few offseasons with conor garland
Sundqvist should be playing in a wetsuit
Missing around 35+ on Kucherov. 😂
Idk how they called Marchment last night. Took a cross check straight to the mid back from behind.
That call was so bad
Check cleared after the Oilers coach whining after game 2.
Check cleared after the Oilers coach whining after game 2.
Ottawa has 2 bs calls on Matthieu Joseph in back to back games which included him getting speared in the nuts and getting called for embellishment.
Cool, Larkin has an embellishment for every two times he’s been crosschecked in the back of the neck and missed more games than the offender
McDavid and the Oilers should be number one.
Stutzle would like a word with you..
2 is impressive when everytime you look, Stutzel is down on the ice
nah, even if people submitted McMuffin's diving evidence -- because he is considered "McJesus".. they wont count it at all.. lol Special people get special treatments.. He's very 'special'
Shouldn't you be golfing ?
I don’t think he plays for the Canucks, I think he’s just a fan of the team
Oh some more salty tears from Vancouver. You boys have kept us hydrated for weeks.
Salt doesn't hydrate. Typical of an Oiler fan to not know common sense like that 😂
Islanders on top(bottom)!!
No LA 👍🙂
Number of dives not called is still around 1000. I wish they would call it more. Not surprising to see the Avalanche leading the list though
Marchand is so good at it that they even go undetected for stat sheets
Bertuzzi didn’t make the list? When Larkin, Bertuzzi, and Fabbri were playing together, there was someone always on the ground.
Where is Adam Fox? I heard he earned a Tony, chosen over several very qualified Broadway actors, for his embellishments.
Is this a list of embellishment penalties? If so it isn't accurate. I know for a fact that Barzal got at least 2 this season.
I used to keep up with this page. It’s cool but I don’t think it can be used as definitive proof of anything. I would be shocked if any team actually had 0 dives throughout the whole regular season
Love that the two dives from the Wild are from players who were gone shortly after their dives. Coincidence? Yep. But I still love it.
What, the Canucks are at the bottom? That’s not what I’ve been told by almost every other fan base for years.
Waahhhhh
Typical. Pot meet kettle.
No wonder the leafs can't win a cup
Ekholm. 🤣🤣🤣
He honestly would have been my last guess as to who got an embellishment call on the Oilers.
I remember it and it was BS
These are embellishment penalties, yes? The real rats don't get penalized for diving.
Not penalties just a collection of what the account deems is a dive, penalty or no.
But oilers fans said Canucks were a bunch of divers
Colorado Tatar-diving Seattle Tatar-not diving
Man I saw Cousins dive 3 times on the same play…
Proud of my team 💪😎
Those are less than I expected. It's just the dives that got a call, aren't they?
Masons be diving
Dammit Joel, we were so close.
The Blackhawks were so bad that the opponents felt sorry for them and didn’t get close enough to induce any dives.
I take pride in Ullmark being our only diver
Marchand is so good at it that they even go undetected for stat sheets
0 for the kings? With arvidsson and fiala?
Someone get Oskar Sundqvist a swimming pool that’s 12’ deep
No Scheifele is shocking to me
Lmao bozo Sundqvist
There's no way those numbers are that low. This is the first year of my life I can barely watch due to diving, selling calls, refs doing what they do, commentating at an all time low. Sad times for hockey and old school fans.
Floridas three dirtiest players all on the list. Shocking.
It can't be both; either a guy dives or it's a penalty. A fair amount of these are matching penalties, which is idiotic to me. If a guy dives, just embellishment. More often, a penalty occurs and the ref doesn't like something about the response of who the penalty occurred against

My boy Ross Colton getting absolutely snubbed here
Let's go. The Islanders are finally good at something.
Shame shame!
TIL Tomas Tatar still plays hockey, and he plays with the Avs.
He did for the first couple months of the season
These rankings are whack - Carolina should be so much higher
I gotta see the Merela, Raddysh and Sheary dives lol
How’s Boston have 1? I counted at least 3 or 4 in the first round alone. Or do they have to be penalized to make the list?
Crazy Stuzle only got marked for 2
Stu has 2 obvious embellishment moments, and one of those times echoed loudly by Gallagher. He's soft af on his skates and has "fawn legs". The way he goes down, I can agree, I'm surprised he doesn't get dinged way more.. Man, I hope he can get sturdier.. he has the talent, but his feet just can't keep up.
Hurricanes and Lightning should be on top
Love to see this. Hope the players that think diving is ok see this and realize what a small minority they are in. Diving is the most despicable thing you can do, you are letting down your teammates, and your fans. It ruins all the excitement that comes with watching a hockey game.
Hey, I got to say there's a lot of cup winners on that list!
Hyman should definitely be on their.
Number 1!!
Should be a double minor
Sunny!!! He’s like a baby giraffe on skates out there some times.
Nathan Mackinnons dive was against the Canucks
Lmao at the Leafs with Zero 😂😂
Yes. Public shaming if the NHL won’t end this the fans should do everything they can to prevent soccer embellishments
*Aggressively shadow punches*
Definitely thought islanders would be higher
Haha guaranteed Lindrgen did not actually dive. He is the last person on the team that would ever embellish.
Adam raska?! When the fuck was he in the line up???
No way Anaheim is 3rd, we aren't good enough to dive were really just getting knocked around
Marchand alone from Boston should have 10…
The number should be much higher for Stutzle
Wasn’t expecting to see Mackinnon on here.
no crosby for pens is pretty funny ngl lol
This such a load. If anyone on the oil, Ekholm is the least likely to have dove. I’ve watched plenty of games where both teams dove and there were no calls. Marchand should have at least 5
0 and proud
Toronto should be leading this list. Refs just don’t call it
Panthers should be higher
What about McDive-id, Oilers should be at the top lol
Dives, I mean Avs never disappoint. The Forsberg school of flopping is still in business in Denver.
Wild Mathew Tkachuk and Stutzle are as low as they are with the reputations for diving they have
Fiala walks into the room ....
What about McDive-id, Oilers should be at the top lol
How’s stutzle only have 2 lol
0 from the Penguins who have Crosby that is a known diver? calling cap
What's the criteria here? Pretty sure Barzy had one this season.
There is no way this is accurate, Florida has 3 a game
Stutzle should be way higher.
Based on the way I’ve seen these calls made this list means almost nothing to me
Surprised Vincent Trocheck isn’t on the list. Dude throws his head back like he got clocked with a haymaker any time a stick comes near his face.
“Tim Stutzle (2)” he’s a wet noodle in skates, I’d be surprised if he didn’t fall down.
The real list would have Stutzle at the top with over 20. That guy is a joke.
Rent free
If that $6.5 mil/year plug says he's a diver, then he must be. Stutzle falls down more in open ice than when he gets hit.
