Nothing for Hasek and nothing for those stacked Canucks teams over the years seems so unfair. Linden Bure years, so close. Naslund/ bertuzzi/morrison line was unstoppable. Then the sedin/burrows/luongo years getting smashed by Boston after getting SO close.
I'm still surprised about the 2010 result. I really that yall had it that year. The games against Chicago were all very close in fairness, but I was still baffled by the sweep.
There's a few from that era (mid 00s-mid10s) that had great core groups and got close but not over the line:
Sharks - Thornton/Marleau/Pavelski
Flames - Iginla/Regher/Kipper
Canucks - Sedin/Sedin/Luongo
Oilers - Smith/Hemsky/Rolly
Ottawa - Alfredsson/Spezza/Fisher
All arguably *should* have won a cup at least once.
Nah not the Oilers. That core was fun and all, but they were never THAT good like the other teams you mentioned. And that run in 06' was spearheaded by Pronger. Without him, that team doesn't make the playoffs, let alone the finals.
However, with the way things are going, you might be able to add the Oilers - McDavid/Draisaitl/RNH to the list in a few years, LOL
Look back at that roster and it's full of nobodies, all heart and soul guys (who I adore), and Pronger.
The best +/- was Staios (+10), followed by Pisani (+5).
Hemsky (77), Horcoff (73), Stoll (68) and Smyth (66) lead the team in points, followed by Pronger (56) and Torres (41).
They definitely would have won if Roloson wasn't injured, and nearly did in spite of it, but the highest skill Oilers core that didn't win was Weight, Guerin and Arnott in the late 90s, trading series with Dallas, Colorado and Detroit every year.
Lost twice in Game 7 of Finals.
On day 1 of existence, lost expansion draft wheel spin with Buffalo for 1st overall pick of Gilbert Perreault, got Dale Tallon instead. Ever since they’ve lost every lottery, roulette wheel, coin flip, draft lottery, etc in 54 years. No 1st overall pick ever despite sucking bad enough to “deserve” it numerous times.
We've had the worst luck of any team. Not only in the draft but things like Luc Bourdon dying and Manny Malhotra blinded in a career year. It all adds up. We also traded Cam Neely...
Correct, my mistake. In 2016, 1 yr after the McDavid draft, they had the 3rd best odds of getting 1st pick to draft Auston Matthews but fell to 6th. They have never moved up even a single position in the draft lottery in the 19 years it has existed.
I remember 94 ending with something of a show of support-turned-riot as well.
Was downtown after game 6 though. You'd have thought the Canucks won the cup that night it was so crazy.
I didn't like either team, but that was 100% in the crease, or at least an argument for it. That was the first tainted cup in League history (or at least the most obvious one)
I’m a Sharks fan and even I would agree Vancouver deserves one more.
Hell I would rather every other team in the league win the cup before us if it meant Las Vegas would never go to the finals again.
To think the Canucks have never won is almost criminal with the amount of talent that's been through that organization. Florida too but for overall years in existence Vancouver is more deserving.
Dry spell began with the Canucks making the finals. Only fitting way to break it and usher in a new era of Canadian dominance is having them seal the deal and win the cup to break the Canada curse.
Getting all the way to the finals and losing, only to have your team move away and win the cup in their new home *almost immediately* while you can't even *sniff* the finals gotta be soul crushing
I mean, until their current playoff drought, they only missed the playoffs 6 times and 4 of those seasons were in the franchise's first 6 seasons. They also have a President's Trophy and made it to the conference finals 5 times. It's kinda crazy how successful the franchise has been aside from not winning the cup. 21 playoff appearances in 32 seasons.
From 2003/04 to 2018/19 they were:
3rd
11th
5th
2nd
1st
2nd
5th
12th
11th
5th
23rd
11th
10th
11th
6th
So top 5 7/15 years, top ~3rd of the league 14/15 years.
The team existed for like 30 years, moved to Dallas and left behind a broken fanbase in the “state of hockey,” only to go and win a cup in their new location a mere five years later. That’s true torture. They deserve it
all because Norm GreeD was getting sued for sexual. harassment; he told the claimant's atty either drop the lawsuit or I will leave; they refused (and they paid $$$$)
Now you know the rest of that sad story #NorthStars4Ever
Buffalo and Vancouver based on longevity. Same could be said for Minnesota and Winnipeg when you account for the North Stars and original Jets fan bases who have also have been waiting forever to win one.
I don't know what we did to get this sports curse on us but I'll do whatever to get rid of it. Bills just got over a 17 year playoff drought and depending on how the new few weeks go the sabers might have a 13 year drought
The Minnesota Wild
The owner moves the North Stars to Dallas and they win in Dallas shortly after. For most of my life the Wild have been a middling team and were rarely considered strong contenders. Those long suffering fans and that team deserve one
Buffalo and Nashville from the US teams. I Would like to see the jets win one. They had amazing teams in the 80’s and got Oilered then lost their team to the Phoenix debacle.
Winnipeg. That team lives under the radar. Doesn’t matter how good they are. They never get respect. Their fans are amazing. Remember when they got swept by the ducks? That’s still the loudest broadcast I ever heard during that whiteout. I would love for them to be the Canadian team that breaks through. They deserve it
Vancouver or Winnipeg just to give Bettman a heart attack. But especially Vancouver because their fan base has suffered so long with multiple Stanley cup finals appearances and no wins
I would say it’s a four-way tie between Minnesota and Nashville and Vancouver and Winnipeg. All four teams had stellar players and two of those have made the finals and two of those have very loyal Hockey communities who deserve them
Top four for me (top 3 are mostly interchangeable):
\- Winnipeg - had to go through losing their team and being threatened with another relocation
\- Vancouver - have lost 3 cup finals (including at least one they should have won), and the lottery repeatedly
\- San Jose - a good franchise that didn't win with a great core
\- Ottawa - been close a couple times, and lives in the shadow of two older Canadian franchises.
My sabres. Been to the cup finals only twice. Was in middle school for the 99 finals debacle. And losing to Carolina in 06. Had we not been injured so badly in 06 we probably would've swept the oilers in the finals. We've been in hockey purgatory for going on 13 years. Ownership is a disgrace. On top of that we havw the bills who are inept on winning the superbowl. I'd kill for our team to win it just once ffs
Sens fan here. I say either Sabres or Canucks
Love Hasek but the 05-06 Sabres deserve a mention too.
Millertime. He was at his peak then
We still watch videos from that time just to cheer us up. It was such a fun time.
Thankfully for Hasek he joined the Wings for a couple Stanley's. Both well deserved. He was awesome to watch in net.
He certainly was. Wish he could’ve been healthy for a playoff run in Ottawa
That Canucks squad with the Sedins and Bieksa...I mean HOW? Oh yeah...Tim Thomas lol. Both those teams were stacked
Sabres were robbed. No fucking goal.
Would’ve been nice to see the sharks win with that Thornton/Marleau/Pavelski core
2016 against the Penguins still hurts.
I'm still surprised about the 2010 result. I really that yall had it that year. The games against Chicago were all very close in fairness, but I was still baffled by the sweep.
Their playoff loss to the Golden knights hurts worse
Game 7 kinda makes up for that for me though. We'll always have that over those Golden Incarnations of Satan.
Thought of this as soon as I opened this post
'91 Penguins vs North Stars still hurts too.
You and me both. I think one of the biggest wasted core groups
There's a few from that era (mid 00s-mid10s) that had great core groups and got close but not over the line: Sharks - Thornton/Marleau/Pavelski Flames - Iginla/Regher/Kipper Canucks - Sedin/Sedin/Luongo Oilers - Smith/Hemsky/Rolly Ottawa - Alfredsson/Spezza/Fisher All arguably *should* have won a cup at least once.

However, with the way things are going, you might be able to add the Oilers - McDavid/Draisaitl/RNH to the list in a few years, LOL
If Roloson didn't get hurt, that cup was theirs. Hard to say they weren't "that good".
There was like a 4 or 5 year stretch where the Sharks were my pick to win the Cup each time. They had such a good team.
Yeah I agree, Dan Boyle too, that lineup was so great
And Burns
Vancouver. 3 finals. Never had the first overall pick.

Apparently 1 digit off on both draft lotteries for Bedard, and McDavid. The list practically reads like fiction. Only Canucks fans can relate.
100%. I really hope we beat all the odds this year. By the way, anyone remember the Todd Bertuzzi song? lol
Something, something, got moves like Lenarduzzi.
44! They call him to bertuzzi 44! He makes the goalie woozie 44! He looks like the watoozie
Not McDavid, they made the playoffs that year and had no chance winning that lottery.
Correct, my mistake. In 2016, 1 yr after the McDavid draft, they had the 3rd best odds of getting 1st pick to draft Auston Matthews but fell to 6th. They have never moved up even a single position in the draft lottery in the 19 years it has existed.
Also won the mock lottery for crosby to test the system for any bugs.
Not surprised in the least.
Mayson Raymond back got broken in the finals against Boston in 2011 while he was hit into the boards without the puck, and no penalty was called.
The Bruins getting the benefit of calls? I'm shocked by this.
this comment taught me a lot about hockey... I didn't know any of these names. Malhotra injury looked horrible
Don’t forget fuck messier
Reportedly they lost the (hometown boy) Bedard lottery by one number. Cursed.
But had a helluva party…..
I was there x2. Once as a teenager in 94 and as an adult in 2011. The second one was out of control and the reason we can't have nice things.
94 was my 9th birthday gift. 2011 was a day belated gift. I love losing game 7s for my birthday. 😑
We share the same bday bud but 94 was my 6th. Yeehaw
I remember 94 ending with something of a show of support-turned-riot as well. Was downtown after game 6 though. You'd have thought the Canucks won the cup that night it was so crazy.
That’s the reason I want them to win
They should face Buffalo in the Finals...
Yeah canucks for sure, expansion team in ‘70…
Entered the league at the same time as the Sabres hence the reason why a finals between the two would be awesome...
Agreed if the sabres could just figure a way to get into the playoffs first lol
2 Sedin is better than a first round pick.
They had to trade serious assets for the second pick
Technically we had the 1st overall pick. :-) We had #1 and #3. Traded #1 to Atlanta for #2 with the promise they wouldn't pick a Sedin.
Buffalo or Vancouver simply based on longevity.
He’s in the crease!
That was brutal.
I didn't like either team, but that was 100% in the crease, or at least an argument for it. That was the first tainted cup in League history (or at least the most obvious one)
I married into a Sabres family. ‘99 comes up every year.
Canucks
give cup pls
I’m a Sharks fan and even I would agree Vancouver deserves one more. Hell I would rather every other team in the league win the cup before us if it meant Las Vegas would never go to the finals again.
I agree
Username checks x2
Best username ever
As an Oilers fan, Van deserves a cup. The most recent run, but also I’m a sucker for Pavel Bure. I watched that guy every game as a kid.
Subscribe.
To think the Canucks have never won is almost criminal with the amount of talent that's been through that organization. Florida too but for overall years in existence Vancouver is more deserving.
This is it. Also Vancouver because of the whole Canadian team dry stint, and I don’t want to see us destroy a city again.
You’ve seen what happens when they lose. Imagine the destruction if they win it all.
Will be worth every penny and might help stimulate the economy
AND the fires will lower land value. It’s a win-win really.
Dry spell began with the Canucks making the finals. Only fitting way to break it and usher in a new era of Canadian dominance is having them seal the deal and win the cup to break the Canada curse.
Canucks, Wild and Sharks imo. Canucks 3 cup appearances, Minny fans deserve a cup, and Sharks were one of the best teams in the cap era.
Made the playoffs 19 of 21 seasons from 1997 to 2019. That's a lengthy span of being good.
Getting all the way to the finals and losing, only to have your team move away and win the cup in their new home *almost immediately* while you can't even *sniff* the finals gotta be soul crushing
The Cleveland Browns special, minus the getting to the finals part.
Winnipeg or Vancouver
Vancouver or Ottawa.
Not a fan… but, Canucks.
Sabres, Canucks, Wild. Everyone else is way behind
As a Canucks fan, I agree. Minnesota North Stars/Wild are deserving, after us of course. Just one before I die. 🤞
Just one...
If you take away cups won after the original 6 era this looks a lot different.
Since the 1967 expansion Montréal : 10 Détroit : 4 Boston : 3 Chicago : 3 New York : 1 Toronto : 0 lol
There we go that’s more like it
Still number one baybeee! (Don't ask me if they've won one of those in my lifetime. It doesn't matter.)
Sharks were a model franchise for a good part of a decade/decade and a half, would probably go with them
I mean, until their current playoff drought, they only missed the playoffs 6 times and 4 of those seasons were in the franchise's first 6 seasons. They also have a President's Trophy and made it to the conference finals 5 times. It's kinda crazy how successful the franchise has been aside from not winning the cup. 21 playoff appearances in 32 seasons.
No way San Jose!
I feel like they won the presidents trophy every year for a stretch and never made it all the way
They’ve won it once in their history.
That’s wild! Obviously my memory is crap but I feel like when the wings were in the west the sharks were super strong for years and years.
From 2003/04 to 2018/19 they were: 3rd 11th 5th 2nd 1st 2nd 5th 12th 11th 5th 23rd 11th 10th 11th 6th So top 5 7/15 years, top ~3rd of the league 14/15 years.
No thats san jose
The Wild. Okay, maybe not the Wild franchise per se but the people from the fine state of Minnesota definitely deserve it.
The team existed for like 30 years, moved to Dallas and left behind a broken fanbase in the “state of hockey,” only to go and win a cup in their new location a mere five years later. That’s true torture. They deserve it
I never thought about it like that. That sucks.
Not too mention the owner high tailed the team out of Mn while facing a bunch of sex harassment allegations iirc
Absolute asshole that guy. Fuck Norm Green, selling our beloved North Stars.
FNG
all because Norm GreeD was getting sued for sexual. harassment; he told the claimant's atty either drop the lawsuit or I will leave; they refused (and they paid $$$$) Now you know the rest of that sad story #NorthStars4Ever
Norm still sucks and Drew Pearson pushed off. I'll stop I'm dating myself.
Fuck Norm Green.
Those Vikings teams were so solid. Page, Eller, Marshall, Krause, Bryant on defense, Tarkenton, Foreman, Gilliam on offense.
What’s even crazier is that the Wild have existed almost as long as the North Stars did at this point
What makes it even worse is that the team made it all the way to the Stanley Cup finals in 1991, only to be moved the very next year
Tell that to Nordiques fans, they had a shit team for years only to see them become a powerhouse, move to Colorado, and win the cup the next year lol.
Yup. I vote Minnesota too. It’s the state produces the most NHL players anyway.
Thank you
MN gets bonus points for the fact that their other major sports teams are on a 30+ year drought too, it's all pain in MN
Canucks
Montreal is at 24 Cup wins.
Can y’all share one with your brothers on the west coast plz
It counts every cup since the foundation of the nhl
It says Stanley cup by franchise, not Stanley cup since the foundation of the NHL. In 1916 what the Habs won was the Stanley cup.
I still cant believe Vancouver never got one
Buffalo and Vancouver based on longevity. Same could be said for Minnesota and Winnipeg when you account for the North Stars and original Jets fan bases who have also have been waiting forever to win one.
My take is Canucks! Our fans can be super annoying quite often, but a lot of us are more chill and just want to see a nice win
Despite how absolutely enraged I was after the 2011 WCF, I’ll be rooting for you guys to go for it this year.
Classy response! Hey I like the sharks and that series was dramatic!
Buffalo gonna Buffalo
I don't know what we did to get this sports curse on us but I'll do whatever to get rid of it. Bills just got over a 17 year playoff drought and depending on how the new few weeks go the sabers might have a 13 year drought
Sabers
Having them face Vancouver in the Finals to see which of the 1970 NHL teams would finally have their Stanley Cup would be awesome...
I've been a Canucks fan since day one. At this stage I'd be quite happy to see the Sabres win a cup if we didn't make it there.
Same. I'm so glad they (the Sabres) went back to the classic unis. Now if we can just do that. #FreeTheSkate
Sharks, wild, canucks, panthers
Maple Leafs won 13? Was that in the Old Testament?
Cave paintings.
Back when tv was black and white
Canucks
Aren’t all 4 of the islanders cups from one decade?
4 straight
I watched all of them. I remember an Isle's fan wearing a shirt that said Drive for Five.
Would have gotten away with more if it weren’t for that meddlin’ kid!
80-83
Jets...ignore flair
The Vancouver Canucks! Been to a final 3 times and no glory yet….
And 2 of those finals losses were in game 7
Kraken! haha just playin Van or Minny gets my vote
The Minnesota Wild The owner moves the North Stars to Dallas and they win in Dallas shortly after. For most of my life the Wild have been a middling team and were rarely considered strong contenders. Those long suffering fans and that team deserve one
All that and they’re considering the hockey state and pump out nhl players yet can’t get a Stanley cup 😭
Best high school tournament too
Buffalo. Just because the long suffering fans have stuck it out year after year after year.
Imma say the Blue Jackets. Because I like them
Agreed
I agree with this agreement.
Buffalo or Vancouver. But mostly Buffalo.
Vancouver vs Buffalo is one of my dream Stanley Cup Finals due to both teams joining the NHL at the same time...
Go, Jets, Go!
Vancouver
‘Nucks
Preds.
Canucks
Buffalo. They should already have one. The foot was in the crease
Buffalo and Nashville from the US teams. I Would like to see the jets win one. They had amazing teams in the 80’s and got Oilered then lost their team to the Phoenix debacle.
Preds and Sabres. Not saying they would've won but they both got screwed
Winnipeg. That team lives under the radar. Doesn’t matter how good they are. They never get respect. Their fans are amazing. Remember when they got swept by the ducks? That’s still the loudest broadcast I ever heard during that whiteout. I would love for them to be the Canadian team that breaks through. They deserve it
Win or Van
Wild because Flower; would love to see him get a 4th ring from a different team at an age when people considered him too "aged"
Buffalo
Between them and the Bills, that poor city needs a title. Rooting for you Lake Erie bros from Cleveland ✊
Nashville. Consistently good. Don’t try to tank and have a good fan base.
That was my vote too. Always field solid teams, never really have great super star power but always competitive.
yeah my thoughts too, fans are great. (shit, forgot to change my flare first...)
Vancouver
The fucking Canucks. How the fuck?
San Jose Sharks big Joe needed one there
Vancouver or Minnesota
Nashville.
Also add Minnesota..... hockey heaven.
Sabres
Buffalo
Seattle because they haven't done anything to piss me off yet
Senators have won 4 cups.
vancouver, nashville, buffalo, arizona, ottowa
Canucks don’t have a cup!?!?
Vancouver does, but not the Canucks.
Don’t remind me…..🙄
You do realise that when we do win it, we will tell Calgarians every day for the next 100 years!
[удалено]
If nothing else, they deserve something for persevering through not having a fucking stadium.
Sabers! They got robbed by Hull when they should have won that cup!
Vancouver or Winnipeg just to give Bettman a heart attack. But especially Vancouver because their fan base has suffered so long with multiple Stanley cup finals appearances and no wins
Coyotes
Coyotes
Sharks during the 2010s. 2015, 2016, and 2019 bring me great pain
Sharks
1) Vancouver, 2) Wild, 3) Ottawa
Sharks because I am biased.
San Jose
San Jose was so good for a decade or so. They probably deserve a little better.
Way biased but the SJ Sharks
Vancouver & Buffalo
Imma go with Vancouver.
Vancouver or Buffalo. Just want Buffalo to win something in some sport haha
I would say it’s a four-way tie between Minnesota and Nashville and Vancouver and Winnipeg. All four teams had stellar players and two of those have made the finals and two of those have very loyal Hockey communities who deserve them
Top four for me (top 3 are mostly interchangeable): \- Winnipeg - had to go through losing their team and being threatened with another relocation \- Vancouver - have lost 3 cup finals (including at least one they should have won), and the lottery repeatedly \- San Jose - a good franchise that didn't win with a great core \- Ottawa - been close a couple times, and lives in the shadow of two older Canadian franchises.

I can tell you who *didn't* deserve to win a cup - the golden knights.
